Thought we'd better start a new thread, how many more will we get through before babies arrive??

I'm thinking that no one visits me in hospital unless I'm in for more than a few nights. I'd pay for a private room, or to move to nearby maternity hospital, and would want to try and still have it just time with the three of us.

mum2kiss · 12/09/2014 23:47

I was in for one night with Dd and I didn't have any visitors except my mum who came up to drive us home. I'd be cool with the same again this time although I'd need her to bring Dd too!

ohthegoats · 13/09/2014 00:11

I'm getting worried about the visitor thing actually. I don't really want anyone to come - I'm reading the September postnatal thread and think I just want us to be left alone for awhile. I reckon I'm mostly going to be in tears to be honest, no one needs to see that!

ExcitedCJ · 13/09/2014 00:11

Pinkie those biscuits sound amazing! I pray this GD goes away after birth so I can eat heaps of them!
Earplugs in tonight - DH brought up silicone ones & they are great. Eye mask about to be deployed, hoping for at least 6 hrs solid. Wish me luck! :)

fedupofrainydays · 13/09/2014 00:31

My poor little boy Envy

But also hoping I don't get it! Wash of two sets of bedding on with dettol cleanser and DH sleeping in ds' room.

My parents came to visit in hospital and that was plenty! Short and sweet home visits are the way forward. 30'mins as can't cope with much more than that at beginning as still shell shocked and tearful and knackered!!! We put off most people til after first two weeks.

binkybunny · 13/09/2014 04:39

I've already laid down the law on visits. My mum is one of my birthing partners so will be up anyway with my dad and I'm happy for them to visit. They are only staying for 24 hours after we get home then leaving DH and I alone until DH goes back to work. My mum is then coming to stay for as long as I want which I'm looking forward to and I know I can tell her to bugger off when I need to!

My concern is our church friends. Apparently they all take it in turns to cook meals for the first week after you leave hospital, which is a lovely gesture but means a daily visit. I also know that how ever much you say no visitors they all think it's perfectly acceptable just to pop round. I'm disconnecting doorbell and phone and keeping the front door locked!

binkybunny · 13/09/2014 04:39

fedup hope your little boy is ok and not contagious!

ExcitedCJ · 13/09/2014 06:11

Fed up hope you had a restful non vomiting night.
Turns out some silicone ear plugs & an eye mask and I can sleep anywhere!!! Just woken up for a pee @ 6am, that is a miracle for me, never mind being on a noisy hospital ward with a new born in bay beside me. Although I got a newborn cuddle last night to let her Mummy sleep for a couple of hours. Very sweet, I'm all excited to meet my wee man next week.
I would let the world & his wife & the travelling circus come to see me in hospital, means less people to steal the breast feeding buns and get mugs dirty at home!

Kirstipops · 13/09/2014 07:24

Sorry fedup, I just meant cheekily delay getting home initially so you wouldn't have to deal with the cleanup when you got bome after your nice night out, hope he's better this morning!
DH has 2 brothers & 2 sisters, all but one of those siblings having 1-3 kids ranging between 1-8; all good kids but just hyper as kids are, so I'm the same as you CJ - to be honest I think I'd rather the short visit in hosp so that they all leave us in peace when we get home! I only have one sister and a 15yo niece and a nearly 10yo nephew, so nowhere as much of a handful as DH's side hehe, they can visit me when they like Grin.
So hard to know how you'll feel afterwards though eh, recently I was thinking the whole baby shower notion wasn't such a bad idea after all as then I've banked some time with my friends pre-baby and can guilt-free put off any visits until after a couple of weeks have passed at home.
DH also only has a couple of weeks pat. leave as he has to keep his remaining 2 weeks annual leave for other things we have on later in the year, so i magine my mum will be popping over a good bit.

ohthegoats · 13/09/2014 07:40

My mil expected to be asked to come and stay I think. Erm, no.

can I ask about where you feel most movement?

I get the odd 10 minutes of kick type feelings under my right hand ribs most days. This is apparently where my placenta is according to scans, but I've been able to feel movement there for ages. Most strong and consistent movement though is bottom left hand side - really wriggly and pokey. According to midwives, it's head down, although I can't feel that for myself. So, what are those low down movements? Elbows?

Shirehobbit · 13/09/2014 07:44

With DS I was very anxious about being descended upon with visitors (esp the inlaws). However, our unexpected hospital stay turned out to be perfect - the ward were dead strict on visiting times (except for dads) so both sets of parents visited us when he was a day old for about an hour, then when we were discharged, we had a good clear week+ alone at home.

Can I ask about heartburn? I didn't suffer with DS, but have been properly struck down this week. Is anyone on omeprazole or ranitidine? And does it work?

MundayCakes85 · 13/09/2014 07:46

Morning all, fedup hope DS is feeling better this morning.
I've had a bit of an upset stomach for the past 24 hours- nothing major though.
Had my baby shower last weekend which was lovely- not too cringy. Everyone bought bump their favourite childhood book which is a great idea. Now need to buy a shelf Smile
Hope you all have a fab weekend.

Yes I know kirsti! Husband did most of the clearing but I did remove the chunks to put in the washing machine! Ds up now and seems ok. He seems quite proud of his "3 sicks" last night, and says doesn't feel sick now. He's not been sick since he was about 9 months so it's amazing when they can talk and actually tell you what hurts and how they feel! I went mad with hand washing and dettol so hopefully I can escape this one if it is a bug.
It's DH birthday today Cake so he's having the lie in although I'm knackered so would love one too!

ohthegoats · 13/09/2014 07:56

I've been taking ranitidine for a few weeks when I need it. Only thing that works! Haven't got a prescription, just otc zantac. Haven't needed it for a week tho. The prescription dose is 4 times stronger than otc, so if you're really bad, do that.

Munday - I can't wait to buy the books! I'm having high tea with two friends tomorrow as my 'shower', no presents allowed.

Shirehobbit · 13/09/2014 08:53

Cheers Goats - off to Boots now for some, Gaviscon isn't even touching it now. Never known anything like it!

Oklahoma · 13/09/2014 08:57

Shire I'm on prescription ranatidine as the HG has given me terrible acid reflux and have found it to be an absolute life saver.

ExcitedCJ · 13/09/2014 09:23

This is no good! I have been at the hospital since 9am Thursday & sorry for the TMI, I have hospital fright & have not managed to do a poo! :( This makes me sad & uncomfortable!

ohthegoats · 13/09/2014 09:34

Shire - they might not let you buy it, same as piriton. Pharmacist says no, consultant or gp would say yes. I got it in sainsburys on self checkout.

ohthegoats · 13/09/2014 09:43

Mother nature definitely makes you actually look forward to the pain and hassle of childbirth, by making everything so goddamn uncomfortable doesn't she? Today a new pain...yaaaaaaay... back ache. Great.

Also, just had a totally unwarranted hissy fit in front of the wardrobe about 'things I can't wear right now'. Am so fed up of wearing the same boring baggy few items of clothes. Also had a random rant at boyfriend about BMI and how we need to be fitter as a good example to a child. I'm going to be super fun today.

fedupofrainydays · 13/09/2014 10:14

cj can you ask for them to give you some fibrgel or lactulose? They gave me both after ds.

So much to do with the house I don't know where to start! Currently done about 4 loads of washing and now looking at my new steam / vacuum mop thinking must get out the box and use it!
Maybe time for some more online shopping... John Lewis here we come... Buggy, new bedding for ds, new coffee machine.. (Mine seems broken after being shoved away for last few months and can't survive without one). Going to be an expensive weekend!

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 13/09/2014 10:22

Can I join you in being super fun goats?

We got our shiny new mattress delivered yesterday and its awful Sad. DH hasnt said much but I know he's pissed off at me for buying online instead of trying one in a shop (damn you groupon and your selling jargon!). So now we're stuck with an uncomfortable mattress for god knows how many years and its all my fault SadAngry

Kirstipops · 13/09/2014 10:35

Goats it sounds like our babies are in the same position! I have an anterior placenta as well, though I don't know whereabouts it is. I feel movement just about everywhere though, maybe it's because the baby is stronger and/or bigger than the placenta now?

We bought new bedroom furniture and I put all my "can't-wear" clothes into one of the wardrobes and my paltry selection of can-wear clothes onto a couple of wee shelves, pretty sad seeing all my nice non maternity clothes hanging up all neglected! And I never want to wear leggings ever again!

Rage Jelly - can you not return it?

Kirstipops · 13/09/2014 10:36

(Sorry, that's a stupid question as I'm sure you've looked into it but that seems crap that they won't let you return something unsatisfactory!)
