Goats sounds like a lovely plan for the first six weeks. Pretty much what I did last time. Lots of societies seclude new mums away during the lochea period (another reason you might not be up and bouncing around straight away) to heal the body, bond and establish feeding. Am v envious as I'll have a two year old in that mix - argh!

Fedup, slide lots of love to you. Day three is all about hormone changes and milk coming in. MW last time were encouraging me to have a wee weep. As for jaundice J had it for 10 days and was on the sunbed - his bilirubin levels got to the point where he needed air lifting down to Aberdeen for a blood transfusion (which they can't do on Orkney) I was devastated as there isn't enough room in the air ambulance for mum once the incubator is on. Thankfully he avoided it. I only established BF after he came out of the sunbed as I couldn't hold him for more than 10 mins every three hrs. Horrible at the time but we are convinced it was what made him such a good sleeper in his own bed. It also needn't end BF if u want to do it just get pumping to bring yr milk in and the nurses can give that via syringe, bottle or cup. J moved from bottle to breast at day 10 and never looked back.

CJ lots of luck! Hope you have an amazing day xxxx

I'm finally off my drips. The glucose one is so sore it really burns your veins. The machine kept getting occluded lines last night so it was like a light and sound show with the alarms and hourly blood tests. Eye mask and ear plugs are the best thing in my hospital bag!

Oh and who said they felt a bit ewww about the whole baby sucking on nipples thing - me too before both births I felt that (somehow too intimate which is daft given they've known your body inside out!) but after the fact it just felt utterly right.

YellowWellies · 18/09/2014 10:40

Oh and I really worried the time he was in the incubator and not doing skin to skin would really affect our bond and emotionally damage him - it didn't we are so close and he's a real sook for giving kisses and cuddles xxx

gunwalloe · 18/09/2014 10:45

flip and slide Sorry you are the babys are having a tough time :)

CJ Good Luck im looking forward to hearing your story later

Any Mums who have had GD before did it suddenly get better at 38 weeks plus? Im getting readings that are that of a non diabetic. And am having to constantly eat to keep my sugar up.

puppythedog · 18/09/2014 11:00

Sat in ultrasound for our 'so where's the placenta?' Scan Smile quite nervous, whatever choices we have we will make work but we are hoping for natural birth preferably in water.

Also really need Schrödenberg to hide their bits from us, want to stay team green Grin

We have developed a defcon list that describes what level of reaction is needed from me, e.g. Come home now! Finish up what you are doing and come home and stuff.

It's hard to remember who is doing what so if I don't manage sorry:
Good luck Wellies. Hope things pick up Slide and Fedup.

Just had scan, sonogropher was worried about measurements until Schrödenberg moved now just saying bigger than average.

cabster · 18/09/2014 11:12

Yay def not GD! Second reading was 5.2 which I'm told is spot on. Ferritin is down to 13 though so looks like I shall be enjoying constipation in the very near future Angry

Good luck puppy

Fab news about the GD cabster!

FlipFantasia · 18/09/2014 11:18

Slide and Fedup so sorry you're having such a harrowing time. Milk coming in is an emotional rollercoaster at the best of times but dealing with it with your babies in special care and being in hospital must be awful. Hugs to you both and to your wee baby boys xx

CJ thinking of you.

For once I'm v glad of the time difference as I'll get to watch referendum coverage at a human hour. This morning is also the first morning both DC are at preschool and I'll have nearly 3 hours to myself (have a pile of work to get through as am finally feeling a bit stressed at how much work I want up finish before baby arrives!).

YellowWellies · 18/09/2014 11:24

Whoop contractions every 3-4 mins. But still only niggly and not worth a paracetomol. Doc now thinking I'm in latent labour but is happy for me to go home until things hot up. Whoop!!!! Good news is I can labour in water but will need a sliding scale drip. Will have to deliver on dry land. Providing s/he doesn't go breech again.

FlipFantasia · 18/09/2014 11:28

Yellow wow, exciting! Good thing you sorted those proxy votes!

ExcitedCJ · 18/09/2014 11:48

Hi all, sorry, I will catch up but just to give you an update. Sept/Oct madness is happening here too! There are no cots in SCBU & therefore no C section today. They had 4 planned sections & 4 emergencies yesterday & girls I was on the ward with last week are getting transferred to other hospitals as they are in critical need of section & with no SCBU it can't happen.
Not really sure what this means for me & bub, guess we wait & see.
I'll catch up with what has been going on this morning & keep you up to date.

YellowWellies · 18/09/2014 12:17

No Flip latent labour could go on a few days and as I'm not needing painkillers, am fully steroided up they're happy for me to progress at home. So I can vote in person!

CJ argh that sucks. So sorry that must have been such a downer Smile

YellowWellies · 18/09/2014 12:18
