Thought we'd better start a new thread, how many more will we get through before babies arrive??

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Really sorry the babies are having a tough old time. Must be really worrying but I'm sure they'll be well soon! Fx today is a good day for you both fed up and slide.

Excited, I'm so excited for you today. Can't wait to hear about our newest little squidge!

Hope all who are feeling yuck this morning feel better as the day goes by. We're on the home straight girls, we will have pur babies soon.

ohthegoats · 18/09/2014 08:02

I made a list of things that will go away/stop in the next three weeks. I know they'll be replaced by other things, but change is as good as a rest!!

Stuffy nose - will be able to breath through it again
Horrible taste in mouth will go away
Dribbling back to normal levels!
Can go to the dentist about cracked tooth
No heartburn, can actually eat after 4pm
No constipation
Veins will go flat again
Be able to reach toenails properly
Will be able to shave legs properly
Will be able to shave bikini line properly
Pelvis pain will stop when I stand up
Not have to get up to wee every hour
Not feel like pissing self all the time
No lack of sleep for no reason
Will be able to lie on front
Will be able to walk up the stairs without being out of breath

So, thinking positive... (please don't someone come along and poo-poo the list, I KNOW that other things will replace these things, I just don't need to hear it today).

cabster · 18/09/2014 08:13

slide to echo what others have said, day 3 is renowned for being the pits but it's a sign your milk is coming in and before long you'll have so much you won't know what to do with it all. When your boobs go like rocks give them a good massage before feeding or expressing, it'll help the flow and stop them aching too much.

fedup when he's 14 and just discovering his love of hair gel and preening in the mirror, you can tease him about how the first thing he did when he was born was head straight for a sunbed :)

CJ hope you've had you're water and you're ready for your big moment! Enjoy those snuggles!

Now then... Slow cooker cake. I cheat and do mine with a packet mix (Wrights, the ones they sell in Aldi) but I don't see why a regular Victoria sponge wouldn't work. Betty Crocker would be fine too flip.

You need a paper cake liner (loaf-tin shaped or round is fine, I get mine from Home Bargains) and I also put a sheet of grease proof paper into the SC first to catch any drips or overspills. Put the lid on and cook on high for around 2.5 hours - the time will depend on your cooker so keep an eye on it and when a knife comes out clean, it's done. Mine always catches on one side so don't strive for perfection and give the burnt bit to the dog/birds/DH. Cake

Morning ladies, wow there's so much going on here, as i dont have a good phone i have to use laptop and it takes me ages to catch up with you all! Thinking of you slide and fedup and really hope today goes well excited.
I completed my handover day yesterday and only have one more job to do tomorrow before I put this dissertation down until next June(ish!).
Not sure if its because i feel like the end is now here, but last night i had a really strong feeling that things were changing, had loads of BH overnight, and also some period pain. Not much evidence but just a strong gut feeling that things were getting ready. Seems silly when lots of you have had show, painful BHs etc, so i'm not sure its anything really, but it certainly made me admire you all even more for waiting patiently despite having these signs for weeks! I'm 38 weeks today so potentially another 4 to go!
Baby just needs to hold out until monday when we've done the final coat of paint and radiators have been put back on, temperature without heating is just at point now where it could be too cold without radiators for the homebirth so i'm just praying he stays put and we can get sorted in time.
Hope you all have a good day with your babies, bumps and frustrations :)

FrauEnglischLehrerin · 18/09/2014 08:18

Great list, goats, and pretty comprehensive! Am racking my brains trying to think of something to add - maybe no more random leg/foot cramps.

SweetPeaPods · 18/09/2014 08:35

Great list goats. Can I add all the extra food we can eat especially the extra 500cals for bf.
I'm really looking forward to spending sometime with DH too. Work is mental at the minute so he's never home so having him home for 2 weeks will be amazing.

SweetPeaPods · 18/09/2014 08:36

Kirsti GP asked me to go back in a couple of days grrr!!

Good luck today Excited! Can't wait to hear how it all went.

ohthegoats · 18/09/2014 08:49

sweetpea - I totally forgot the stuff about the food and drink bonuses. Remembered in the car whilst I was yelling the words to Paradise City and crying at 80mph on the dual carriageway. Yep, I've officially gone a bit mental this morning.

Red wine
White wine
Martinis
Blue cheese - Roquefort particularly

That's the only things I've really missed.

I just want to sit down for 6 weeks... this is my if I actually do it breastfeeding plan. Sofa, books, box sets, baby, healing, crying if I want... for 6 weeks. Boyfriend seems to think I'll be bored and wanting to get out after 2 days, just the thought of that at the moment makes me want to cry as well. Sitting. Down. Feet. Up. Not panicking about whether or not I'm lying enough on my left side or not.

binkybunny · 18/09/2014 08:55

Good luck excited can't wait to hear you have your baby in your arms.

slide and fed up hope things get better for you. I too have been warned about the day 3 baby blues. Apparently it's normal and with everything you have both been through/ going through is understandable.

goats I'm adding no longer having constant backache and being able to have a proper squishy hug with dh to your list.

So having decided yesterday that the baby needs to stay put for at least ten days as I'm going to do a custom paint job on the cot bed and dh is making a changing top for our current linen box, I realised yesterday I had eaten spicy curry, a whole load of pineapple and had a hottish bath. Are they all not supposed to bring on labbour?!

ohthegoats · 18/09/2014 09:03

I'm really looking forward to spending sometime with DH too.

Me too. He's made his work mental this week by cramming everything in before he might need to be on call, and he had a few sleepless nights. Combined with my knackeredness and general pissedoffness with the stress of finishing work, we've not really spoken properly all week.

I think half of my bawling this morning is related to packing in work. I desperately want the time to myself, there are things I need to finish that I haven't had the energy to do after work at all, so that'll be good. BUT, I love my job, I'm going to miss my colleagues so much too. The Head is leaving so when I come back it'll all be different - he and I have mostly a really good working relationship, it'll be odd not to have that when I come back too. I know as well that work will be less important, but again... even that makes me want to cry today.

STIGZ · 18/09/2014 09:13

goats i felt total relief after having DD ... I felt that she was no longer my sole responsibility, you dont return to your former self overnight but it is so refreshing to know that you are finally on your way to becoming a new better you which you can take at your own pace and when you look at them you feel proud that you grew that perfect little person inside you! ... I was also totally feeling the same about you regarding bf ... Not crazy on the idea as i honestly wasnt brought up around bf, it didnt seem natural to me but i tried it and unfortunatly didnt have nice experience due to lack of support from midwifes at the hospital when i felt i was at my most vunerable.., i ended up ff feeding day 2 and i felt an enormous weight had been lifted from my shoulders, so just play it by ear and see how it goes.., you will know when if you want to continue or not - hopefully you get good support from midwifes or other agencies

Cj. Thinking of you hunny, not long now, look forward to your update

Lily31 · 18/09/2014 09:14

badger I think your concerns were missed along the way. I've not experienced the same but it sounds like others have, like clops. I think I'm not as far along as you though.

Someone bought me the pukka night time tea at my baby shower. Will give it a go now I know it's safe bugger.

Woke with a cracking headache. Then the first thing I thought of was the referendum, today and tomorrow are so very important for us all.

ohthegoats · 18/09/2014 09:34

I'm so excited for CJ - and also madly jealous... waaaaaiting...

BadgerInBury · 18/09/2014 09:36

Happy baby day, excited!

Sending hope to fedup and slide, as Kirsti says - this too shall pass. You'll have your babies with you very soon and until things are easier you're absolutely in the right place.

I'm feeling better this morning, thanks lily. It will be interesting to know if clops and I are right on the gut-instinct-any-time-now front. On a tangent, clops, the wrist guard is working and the carpal tunnel hasn't been as bad the last couple of nights - worth a go if it's still troubling you.

And my addition to goats' list: being able to stand up without making a nnnghhuurrr sound!

Have a happy day, ladies :)

ohthegoats · 18/09/2014 09:47

Stigz - as well as the midwives in hospital, I'll also have my doula's help - she breast fed three children herself, and had some issues at the beginning, so hopefully she'll be a good one for advice. I get a couple of postnatal visits from her too. Also, there are 2 baby cafes with drop in 10 - 2pm every day, within half a mile of my house. Apparently one of them is very good for dealing with you arriving looking like you've been dragged through a hedge backwards, taking the baby off you, giving you a jacket potato with cheese and a cup of tea, then sorting you out (anecdotal, obviously). So that sounds nice!

ohthegoats · 18/09/2014 09:48

being able to stand up without making a nnnghhuurrr sound

Haha, I did that sound on EVERY stair going to bed last night. And then said to boyfriend that he better be ready/hydrated to do loads of shagging this weekend. I'm not sure that nnnnnghuurrr is the sexiest warm up sort of sound.

binkybunny · 18/09/2014 10:01

Ha ha that standing up noise, glad it's not just me! Feel like dh is trying to raise the titanic every time I get off the sofa/ bed/ gym ball!

Being able to get out of the bath on my own will be nice too.

ohthegoats · 18/09/2014 10:03

Being able to get out of the bath without being horrified at the state of my pointy abdominal muscles will be good too. I actually can't look at them anymore, makes me feel sick. Urgh. I also can't look at my reflection in the taps - it's all distorted to be rounder than normal, like always, but obviously I'm already much rounder than normal... the whole thing is like a Beryl Cook painting.

binkybunny · 18/09/2014 10:16

Oh God, I've just sat and eaten half a tub of Nutella straight out of the jar while reading mn and fb. Feeling sick and disgusted with myself, it was only meant to be one spoon Blush

mrsb87 · 18/09/2014 10:23

Haha yes I recognise that noise. No not sexy, not section when your trying to manoeuvre yourself around for sex!

Hmmmmmm I miss brie and other tasty cheeses. And pate. Not long now ladies GrinGrin

mrsb87 · 18/09/2014 10:24

I have no idea what my autocorrect wanted to say there but you get the idea!

Kirstipops · 18/09/2014 10:26

I make the nnnghhuurrr sound when I sit down as well...and when I roll over in bed....unloading the dishwasher....I used to laugh at the unfortunate melodramatic-sounding wording of the Voltarol ad: "Pain when moving?" Now I get it!
Feeling quite invigorated after heading out early to vote, now just have to try and coast through the day on that feeling, have a couple of friends coming over tonight for a DVD & takeaway and catch-up as we prob won't get another chance til after baby arrives Shock.

ohthegoats · 18/09/2014 10:27

I've discovered that the only sex option is me on top, feet on the bed. Good squat practice too!! Means that not my entire lady garden area is getting bashed, and I can control it. To be honest I don't think boyfriend minds, he quite likes it. Had to put a ban on it after last weekend and the 3am contractions though, so this last 2 weeks will have been the biggest gap we've had in some time. Boo.

Actually, I should add that to the list too - actually genuinely fancying sex. Admittedly it might be a few months... ahem.

Binky - you know, only the other day I realised that Nutella has been absent the whole time I've been pregnant. It's an error. I'm going to get some on the way home. I can't eat it out of the jar though, but there is some good bread at home.

Brie, with a good fig chutney... runny brie... pate on French bread. Mmmm.
