Thought we'd better start a new thread, how many more will we get through before babies arrive??

OP posts:

me23 do you think baby changing position could cause me a lot of pain?! About an hour ago I had been leaning over gym ball. I had a bit of a sore back anyway and when I got up and sat on the sofa I got a band of pain right the away across my bump and all the way around my back. It was continuous whether I was sitting or standing and went on for about 15 mins. Tummy was rock hard the entire time. It then lingered but not as back until I took some paracetamol (as advised when I called labour ward - they said to come in if I was worried for monitoring). Now baby is going berserk in there. I never had this last time around!

ohthegoats · 11/09/2014 23:13

Good question mum, I think mine is still freewheeling in there, so some evenings (seems to be evenings I notice it), are VERY uncomfortable. I came to bed at 8 tonight because lying on left hand side is only comfortable position. Baby moving so much while I was sat on sofa/chair/beanbag, that I couldn't hack the discomfort.

mum2kiss · 11/09/2014 23:20

Can't believe how nuts it's going! A good half an hour now of constant escape tactics. I was to go to bed and the whole bump is just constantly shifting. Baby is managing to jab my in the bladder and ribs at the same time!

ExcitedCJ · 11/09/2014 23:31

Ahh.. You guys are making me jealous with sleep mask & ear plug chat. I am on my big rubber mattress with the light of a 1000 suns blazing into my eyes from all over the ward, a girl in next bed is getting babies heart trace done, mobiles bleeping everywhere and the internal reception is just outside so lots of chatter! Def something I will task DH with tomorrow, I did ask him today but he forgot in all the excitement!
I'm missing my Colin Caterpillar treats, although there is a McD's within stumbling distance of the hospital and I would currently trip up a granny to get to a cheese burger first! I am starving - steroids doing funny things to me. NEED food.

ExcitedCJ · 11/09/2014 23:39

Oh FFS, I'd get more rest in a nightclub!

queenasanti3 · 12/09/2014 00:27

Hi everyone not long left for us all now, iam sooo happy to finish work today, then from Monday just 3 weeks leftShock
Cant wait till we start getting some birth announcements on these threads, (come on babies no need to be shy we've waited patiently........now hurry up and start to make an appearance)Grin x

binkybunny · 12/09/2014 04:47

excited and slide hope you've managed to get some rest on the hospital wards, thanks for the ear plug and sleep mask tip need to go and dig mine out, though no idea where they are.

mum sometimes I feel like my baby has done an entire flip and I keep thinking she's gone b2b or breech, but so far the mw have said she's head down back forward. I quite often see and feel her bum scoot from one side of my bump to the other with feet/knees/elbows or something jabbing out and possibly hands sticking in my pelvis. It's so painful it can take my breath away and make me actually whimper in pain.

Am wide awake after getting up to pee now. Wishing I was at this stage in midsummer as at least it would be light now and wouldn't seem so 'in the middle of the night'!

BingoBango85 · 12/09/2014 06:40

Last day at work!!!!!!! GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

mum2kiss · 12/09/2014 07:15

Oh how I wish it was my last day today!

I'm used to baby going berserk and my bump shifting but usually it happens in little fits not a constant moving with such force for almost an hour. Was strange that all that started after the horrible pain too....well pain is gone this morning so just waiting for the little one to start moving in there so I know all is ok!

porcito · 12/09/2014 07:18

Congrats bingo! Very jealous, still got a week to go and so much handover crap for the next teacher. I want to bring back the 'educational' DVD lesson for 3 months Grin

I can't sleep either, doesn't help that I'm stressed about work and DP is being a giant mouthbreather. It's like sleeping next to a dragon.

me, she just said that when it gets to that point of labour, they don't wait to see, they just cut at the start on the basis that most people will tear or need cutting anyway Confused I still don't know if I need a C section after last weeks little problem, so might not come to that anyway. They also take the baby away right away for 2 hours to stop any infection. I think i might have to work on my arguing in Spanish...

ohthegoats · 12/09/2014 07:46

There must be something to this whole relaxing thing - every morning I wake up at the moment feeling almost not pregnant. Nothing hurts, I'm in a good mood... by the end of the day I feel like I've been hit by a train!

Last day in class today. We're making bread... flour everywhere...

madamweasel · 12/09/2014 07:50

Thinking of you slide and cj and hope you're feeling ok this morning.

On the topic of eye masks, I'm not keen on the elastic round my head and get confused if I wake up with a roving eye mask half covering my ear/mouth. I find a clean black sock or a dark strappy top folded small works quite well to block out enough light to get me off to sleep.

The noise on a hospital ward is another matter entirely though so I hope you managed to get some rest at some point last night Thanks

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 12/09/2014 07:59

Also thinking of you slide & cj, hope you both managed to get some sleep. I will be adding ear plugs & an eye mask to my bag now!

I am getting massive movements too but they really change when i get into bed, it like a bubbling kind of feeling, really weird!

I had a really vivid dream about baby being born last night, i dreamt that my waters

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 12/09/2014 08:03

went whilst lying in bed, skipped over the birth part then dreamt i had a boy with brown hair & the cutest button nose Smile then i dreamt about not being able to get him to latch & about 6 of my friends all trying to 'help' me at once! It was all so vivid i had to check to make sure the bed wasn't wet!

ExcitedCJ · 12/09/2014 08:07

Morning from a sleepy CJ. I got about 3 hours last night, get thee all to a chemist & get ear plugs for your hospital bags today!!
I ended up listening to my Yoga Nidra download on iTunes at 6am & I managed to relax/sleep enough with that for another little snippet to make me feel a little better. I highly recommend it if you need something to chill out your minds. I introduced my very non hippy, non yoga practicing Mum to it 3 weeks ago & she loves it as her mind is far too active at night.
3rd tip, always remember your jaw, tense jaw is linked to stress/tight cervix and lack of Oxytocin release - wiggle those jaws. I opened my mouth & did some jaw wiggles & horsey blows & all felt much better.
That is it from tales from the ward this morning!
Still no blinking name in mind!

Me23 · 12/09/2014 08:12

gun yes gd and high Bp and closely linked women with gd are more likely to get preeclampsia so we are always closely monitoring.

goats could you get an on the day gp appt? My surgery release a few appts in the morning so have to phone up first thing. I know not everywhere does this though. Otherwise maybe worth seeing if mw has any cancellations?
Also even if you don't hae a sweep at 40 weeks you should still be checked over so I would book it anyway and just decline the sweep (you may be even desperate to try anything to get labour going by then)

portico routine episiotomy is so outdated and not evidenced based there is lots of research against this. Also taking baby straight from you for 2 hours in the absence of an emergency this is cruel, that time is so special and so beneficial to you and baby, I would certainly not consent to that Sad

mum2 yes when baby does a big movement it can cause pain maybe that's what it was last night?

I am craving an egg baguette this morning may have to get one from the greasy spoon on school run!

SlideIn · 12/09/2014 08:20

Morning all, hope you got some rest CJ - would stamp feet and ask to be moved, you'll need your energy :/ Mask & plugs did trick, only got about 4/5hrs with obs but decent deep sleep. Monitored last night, baby still happy & twerking away with feet planted in ribs. BP up this morning and 'loads of protein' in wee Hmm Awaiting docs...

Mum I had one or two episodes like that - assumed baby reacting to my pain/distress hormones? My back is pretty buggered at the best of times, as no repeat MW said probably a back muscle spasm bringing on a BH; nervous thing. Unpleasant though, my empathies.

Bumpforme2014 · 12/09/2014 08:33

Morning, last day at work for me too eeeeeekkkkk feeling better about finishing now since I now have a horrible sore throat!

Hope your okay slide, keep us posted!

Ladies my bump got softer last few days....feels different, think she has changed position but feeling her in the same places? Also feel more hungry and able to eat more so perhaps she has dropped but doesn't look like it.

fedupofrainydays · 12/09/2014 08:46

slide and cj hope you are both ok. Thinking of you.

Feels Envy as in sick at thought of egg baguette. Funny how different things appeal to different people in pregnancy!

Hope the plumber turns up today to sort out the dodging hot water / heating he's installed. Somehow he's connected the hot water to the radiators so we have no hot water but instead heating when the thermostat is down and heating switched off. Muppet. Never met a good plumber - ever.

I'm going to buy our buggy - citi mini gt today. Second baby purchase after my ergo! Thank god ds is in nursery this afternoon as I'm so tired of running after him!

Captainmcgraw · 12/09/2014 08:48

Seems like lots of us are having last days today. My last day too then a week at home before baby arrives!

Porcito I really feel for you. I came very close to moving to Chile to start my permanent life over there with my ex. Hearing all your stories makes me extra relieved it didn't happen. Hope you can hold your ground with at least a few things although I imagine how hard it is when everyone probably thinks you're the odd one!

Thinking of Slide and CJ

kittyvet · 12/09/2014 08:57

Ear plugs and mask in the bag- thanks for the tip! Luckily our maternity wing mostly single rooms. Only have to go on a ward if they are rammed. Think I might have taken the nesting a bit far- up at 7am making blackberry and apple jam... Huge dollop jumped up and splashed me and now I have burn on my pinkie!!! Bloody hurts but expect that's nothing compared to what's coming in a few weeks!
Hope everyone has a good day.. In hosp, at work or at home.

Lily31 · 12/09/2014 09:19

Nice to know others are finishing up work! It is a very odd feeling as a FTM...

Baby had a party for about 2hrs last night. I think it has sensed my relaxed state after finishing yesterday.

Cousins down for a girlie weekend today - life is better

FrauEnglischLehrerin · 12/09/2014 09:41

slide and cj hope everything goes well today and you get whatever you need - reassurance, yummy food brought, a bit more kip.

porcito the German medical system at least seems to be more progressive than the Mexican, but I can sympathise with your difficulties in getting across what you want in a different language and culture. In my case it's less the language difficulties that get in the way and more that my questions are met with incomprehension (why on earth are you asking that) or they assume I'm panicking or being an "awkward customer".

Those with gd stop reading! I can't remember who linked to the choc chip cookie recipe, but I made them last night and have just scoffed two for breakfast. Scrummy recipe, thank you Flowers.

binkybunny · 12/09/2014 10:06

Frau it was mrsb I've just come on to say I'm baking batch number two today for the freezer as we ate the first lot, absolutely amazing !

fatpony · 12/09/2014 10:08

All this talk of noisy wards is making me anxious, especially after our NCT teacher said she was in the one at my hospital the other day and it was 35 degrees! She said they keep it artificially hot - yikes! I am a very light sleeper anyway and get quite furious when too hot, I'd much prefer a freezing bedroom than a hot one. Oh dear :)
