theUrbanDryad · 27/10/2006 23:21

i'm going to a home birth workshop at my surgery soon, apparently, though my midwife declined to tell me when it was (she is disorganised, but quite lovely, so i let her off ) i have my next appointment on the 15th nov so i'll hopefully find out then.

had a mad craving for lemons yesterday. txt dh at work and told him to bring me some on his way home. spent the evening cutting them into quarters and sucking them. not too sure what all that was about!

we're in surrey this weekend, for a belated wedding reception put on by MIL. oh the joy the joy. oh well, we're going to a halloween party tomorrow evening with dh's friends round here which should be fun. i was thinking about dressing as a pumpkin, but as usual have left it too late to get my arse in gear! anyone else doing anything festive tomorrow night?

Dragonhart · 28/10/2006 10:47

If you have a craving for lemons Urban, there is a gorgeous lemon drizzle cake in Asda in the creamcake fridge which has lemon icing on the top, then cream and lemon curd in the middle. I am addicted! Mind you, prop better for you to suck lemons!!

theUrbanDryad · 28/10/2006 11:47

yeah, i really wanted the sourness of the lemons. it was divine, all bitter and yummy......i want lemons again now.

well, wish me luck, i'm off to meet dh's parents stupid surreyite friends. grumble grumble grumble sulk sulk sulk.

(sorry to anyone in surrey, magnolia i think you're just down the road from us at the moment)

BlueyDragon · 28/10/2006 19:17

Steady on UrbanDryad - some of us have just moved to Surrey! Not everyone who lives here is a complete [insert whatever word you think appropriate] .

Thanks for all the welcome messages everyone. My due date is 10 Jan - I think there's quite a few of us. But I have a really strong feeling it'll be late, don't ask me why.

I'm now scared at how organised everyone is but me. Did cot shopping today and I am going to look at nurseries next week as I'm intending to go back full time after 6 months. I feel like such a bad mother already when I tell people that, but hey ho, they'll get over it and so will I. Any of the already-mums got any nursery tips?

BlueyDragon · 28/10/2006 19:18

Also meant to say to 2Happy - really sorry about your gran. That's tough to cope with anytime.

theUrbanDryad · 28/10/2006 20:57

blueydragon - i'm not an already mum but i can pass on the wisdom of my next door neighbour who went back to work when her twins were 5 months, and she said that the ones that impressed her more were the ones that were like "yeah, well if they want to eat dirt they can..." i guess it depends what sort of mum you are as to whether that would shock or reassure you, but personally i'm of the opinion that a little dirt-eating doesn't do a small any harm, and it shows that the nursery is relaxed enough and not going to start panicking if your LO brings in copulating snails (like my godson did when he was 3. he then pulled them apart. snail innards everywhere!)

whereabouts in surrey are you? we're in dorking...the scenery is gorgeous but my god some of the people are awful! not all, by a long stretch, but it's interesting to see how far you can push them into racism!

well, i'd better run as we're off to a halloween party. i'm dressed as a (rather pregnant) kitty. meooow! xxx

magnolia1 · 28/10/2006 21:08

Lol, Urban have fun

Sorry I have been absent ladies. Feeling shitty again and dd4 not well Spd is hurting like hell and we have changed over to sky broadband which is crap and sometimes slower than dialup!!!!

Welcome to all the newbies.

Anyone's heartburn really bad?? I was awake from 1am till 6 am this morning and dived out of bed when I thought I was going to be sick It was loads of acid though BLUERGGHHH!!!!!

lulu25 · 28/10/2006 21:53

Surrey rocks. It's well leafy.

LadyTophamHatt · 29/10/2006 11:16

Hi girls, nothing much to report, constipation, occaisional heartburn(It's bloody awful isn't it magnolia), loads on braxton hix thingies and all that but just read your post Lizzz. I'm in seaford so depending on where you are I might be close by.

laughalot · 29/10/2006 14:30

Hi all hope you are all well and welcome to all the new mummies. Well iv not been on for a few days had my results back for glucose test everything is fine except I need iron tablets I bloody hate them being constipated and then when you do go your poo is black sorry tmi. Iv been busy glossing my ds room ready for dh painting it on friday thought I would make a effort and do the skirting boards and radiator. Iv not had to many problems no leaking nipples yet which I seemed to get really early on with my ds however my back is killing me just on one side and it sends pain right into my bottom.

looshkin · 29/10/2006 14:53

Hello all, hope everyones colds are settling and energy levels on the up again. UD hope the MIL party was better than anticipated. Welcome to all the newbies we are getting busy.

We have spent the last week or so getting nursery stuff - we have a mamas and papas factory shop about 5 miles from our house so lots of bargains - you have to settle for end of lines etc but saved over £250 with the pram, cot car seat and changer hoorah - however the pram is a rather alarming bright blue hmmm will take a bit of getting used to. So we feel v lucky as the money that our parents have given us has covered the largest purchases. Also this weekend my lovely SIL gave us an enormous bin bag of sleepsuits, vests cot sheets etc so looks like will not need ot buy very much more so we can breathe a financial sigh of relief.

I have had lots of hip/back /pelvis pain last few weeks have got a support belt this week which helpes at work and taking cocodamol at night as turning over in bed blimey that hurts - makes me think I will just crumble at the first hint of labour. Hope the baby doesn't mind thepainkillers too much always feel a little funny about taking stuff but had to take stemetil for hyperemesis for the until 18 weeks and the cocodamol for headaches and back pain as well so having nightmares about problems - must get a grip.

Time to sort through some clothes and general baby stuff that I have no idea what they are for!! Loosh

elliepmummy · 29/10/2006 18:20

hello all,

not much to report here either I'm absolutley (sp?) knackered as DD up at 5am this am and we put her to bed later last night (hate stupid clock changes!) been to my mum and dads for sunday lunch and mum said I looked knackered and since she looks after DD on a monday when I work they have kept her for the night (lucky enough my mum has spare pjs and outfit at her house) so that was a lovly surprise. Came home around 5 did the ironing and had a lovely long bath and looking forward to hitting the sack and hopefuly getting a good nights sleep

Love2dance · 29/10/2006 18:52

Elliepmummy: sorry I forgot to say I'm due 10th January 2007. I think I might be late too.

I don't want to go to school tomorrow . Only 5 more weeks to go.

theUrbanDryad · 29/10/2006 19:24

heartburn - bloody nightmare. i've been crunching on rap-eze (possibly might be called fruit-eze) they're basically fruity rennies which seem to help. either that or drinking gallons and gallons of milk, but i'm worried that i'm putting on too much weight. gaviscon makes me hurl!

well we had a bit of a scare today, went up to the long man of wilmington with some of dh's friends to do pagan-y samhain things and about halfway through the second lot of a-e-o's i started to get REALLY bad and very regular contractions! was quite funny really, they had "open a door in the circle" so i could have a walk around ...luckily they settled down after a bit of movement, but dh was dying to phone for an ambulance! think all the pagans were secretly hoping for an emergency birth, right there under the long man's nose! would at least give them something to talk about in the pub afterwards...

muppet3 · 30/10/2006 08:32

Elliepmummy - edd 04/01/07. Scarily close now. Am despairing of my midwives who suggested I should attend the antenatal classes which START on 6 December and culminate in a maternity ward tour on ... wait for it ... 27 DEC! Bl**dy hell. One week early and I'd already be there!!!

Anyway, am taking matters into my own hands and a) crashing the classes which start this Wednesday instead, b) taking DH to a 2-day intensive NCT thingy, and c) considering hiring a birth doula to compensate slightly for overstretched and careless midwifery and absence of any suitable female friends or relatives who can be there with DH and I. Anyone else know anyone who's done the doula thing? Any comments / ideas? Am hoping to meet a possible one that I found through the doulas uk website this week to see if we get on...

LadyTophamHatt · 30/10/2006 09:22

Urban....you should have dropped in for a cuppa, I live about 5 mile from the long man of wilmington

MotherBeaker · 30/10/2006 09:29

Anyone else still suffering with colds? I took Friday off work to have a nice long relaxing weekend and on Thursday I got a great big stinking cold . I was standing in the shower on Thursday night trying to ease some of my head/sinus/chest pain and thinking "It's all very bl**dy well for people to say just drink lots of water, eat fruit and veges and get plenty of rest, but a couple of Nurofen Plus would go down really well right about now." Needless to say I didn't take anything and woke up all through the night thinking my head was going to explode.

Anyway almost back to normal now, apart from being a bit of a snot factory! I have my final mw appointment here in the UK on Wednesday and cross fingers ladies that everything goes well as if it does she will give me a letter saying that I am fit to fly in two weeks - if not I am stuffed.

Oh and TWO more weeks of work to go
