Sorry, Magnolia, didn't mean that to be a worrying post. Bump is fine. My grandma died last night (Looshkin knew it was on the cards)

jessddibs · 24/10/2006 16:39

Hi all! Been away all weekend and more staying with big sis and then at friends as dd has gone to france with dh to visit friends. I was dreading it as I thought I would miss her bigtime and vice versa, but it has actually been heaven!! I havn't had to do any cooking, cleaning or washing although I did do a bit of babysitting. I think I have read every magazine possible and generally just had a rest! Have spoken to dd everyday and she and dh have had a whale of a time. It has been quite hot were they are so she has been on the beach most days and "helped daddy drive the golf buggy" (just knew he'd manage to squeeze in a game or two!) and she made some new friends to add to the ones she already has over there. Dh says that everyone has been praising her on her good manners etc and that she couldn't have been any better behaved!! But she hasn't been going to bed till after 10pm everynight and not waking until after 9am, so I am going to have my work cut out to get her back in her routine for school! Looking forward to their return tonight, told dd to get me a present when i spoke to her this morning such as a nice necklace or something, but she said that she will look for some new 'pants' and 'bras' as thats what i REALLY need!!! Cheek!

Sorry to hear about your grandma 2happy....x.x.

Hope everyone else is ok.

I am still having fainting problems, happened 4 times now! Consultant said that it is very common and that it's just one of those things!?!? Told me to keep my body temperature cool as overheating causes fainting in pregnancy and to not raise my heart rate as this will have the same effect. So school run will be slowed down and no winter coat will be worn! But yeaterday i was in next and it was so bloody hot that i passed out! had only been in there 5 mins and hadn't noticed the heat! Am also waiting for bloodtest results checking my iron levels so that may be to blame....

Catch up later
jess.x.

elliepmummy · 24/10/2006 16:46

So sorry to hear about your gran 2happy.

Gla you had a well deserved rest jessdibs.

Had my gluose blood test today, well sort off my midwife appt was 2.30 got there 2.25 and 2 woman also sitting there emerges no midwife shown up speak to reeptionist who says she is trying to get hold of her. anyway at 3.00 (dd and several other pg mums with toddlers arrive) I phoned the ommunity midwives at hospital it appears that our midwife is on annual leave and noone thought to cancel her appts so had to wait to see a nurse to do bloods and then wait to see dr to do bp etc then he says bp high not surprised after sitting in stupid surgery for an hour and a half. There wasnt another midwife appt available for 2 weeks so a few of us said wasnt good enough and they have now put extra clinic on next week but my appt is 4.15 whih is a total pita as they will be overrunning and dd will want tea et aaargh aaargh aaargh rant over sorry!!!

elliepmummy · 24/10/2006 17:11

OH MY GOD! Have you seen there is a due in july thread!!!! that makes us 'old timers' now!!

Dragonhart · 24/10/2006 19:55

Right. All of you with a child or more already- how many changing bags have you bought? I have just bought my 4th ( denim and leather one from Mothercare in the sale) and when I got home and told DH he winged on about 'not another changing bag. How many do you need?' I dont think that 4 in 15 months is that bad. They have all been used loads but are different size/ for different stages and therefore all justified! Love my new one. .

Anyone decided on names yet? It has taken us ages but I think we may have two boys and girls names .

Ruth Joanne or Maria Joanne (Joanne is my name - bit of a family tradition)

Nathan William or Michael William if it is a boy (William is a family name for boys on my side). We were going to have Albert as a middle name from DH side but as our surname begins with D it would mean his initials would be either NAD or MAD- neither very good!!

Sorry aobut your Gran 2Happy.xxx

magnolia1 · 24/10/2006 20:07

Oh 2happy I am so sorry to hear about your nan, Mine died 2 days before Xmas nearly 2 years ago. Thinking of you xxxxx

LadyTophamHatt · 24/10/2006 20:11

Dhart, how many changing bags have I bought in the 7.5 yrs of being a parent??

One.
when I was Pg with ds1, bought in the motherare sale because I thought I had to have one.

All the other bags have been I've used for changing bags have just been normal regular bags. And I'm a travel light type so as soon as humanly possible it's a nappy, wipes and bottle of milk chucked in my handbag

LadyTophamHatt · 24/10/2006 20:12

Sorry 2happy, I forget to send you my love at this sad time for you and your family.

xxxx

laughalot · 24/10/2006 21:20

2 happy sorry to hear about your gran.
How many changing bags im same as lth 1 for me.
Had my glucose test today bloody awful feel like a pin cushion as I had to have my anti d as well , she said it would be a few days for he result.

laughalot · 24/10/2006 21:21

Forgot to say dragon maria and nathan are my favs

theUrbanDryad · 24/10/2006 21:39

hey all - been lurking for a while as have had horrid cold and been feeling very anti social!

sorry about your gran 2happy, mine died ages ago, so i can't really identify, but it must be distressing. we're thinking of you.....xx

my MW whinged at me for being underweight at my booking in appt, so i think they just whinge whatever. when i had to go into hospital for bleeding they checked my blood pressure and did a double-take then went "oh, that's really high....for you!" then they were freaking out cause they were worried about pre-eclampsia! bleargh...

well i have my MW appointment tomorrow so we'll see what they whinge about this time!

Dragonhart · 24/10/2006 22:06

ok, so only 2 of mine have been changing bags and one was given to me (actually that means I have only bought 2 and an enormous handbag so I dont know what he is moaning about!). Just cant seem to find the right thing to carry everything as I am def NOT a travel light person!! Also recently started using washable nappies which do seem to take up more room if you are going out as you have to take them home too.

I still havent made my next MW appt for blood tests etc and I will be 29 weeks tom . Must must must ring tom. Just keep forgeting so will prob get told off for that.

Sorry you have been feeling bad Urban.xxx

Loubie37 · 25/10/2006 08:59

2Happy - really sorry to hear your news, big hugs.

Changing bags - I've just got the Huggies free one but I don't like it....it's not got many compartments, I can imagine everything getting lost inside. It's also got a VERY strong plasticky smell, not nice! It might do as a swimming bag I suppose one day. I like the Avent Kit bag, it looks really nice and has loads of separate compartments etc so you can find stuff easily. That's more or less all I've got to buy now, plus the baby bath a couple more sheets and a fleecy blanket to match the nursery, we've got everything else

We're decorating the nursery this week - yesterday it was midnight blue (it used to be my sons room and was decorated in a space theme), it's now white ad hopefully later today it will be lemon and green Tomorrow we're having a day off (got 4D scan) then on Friday we'll be putting the border up, glossing the woodwork, putting up the blind/curtains/light shade etc ready for the carpet coming on Monday. Then we can put the cot and everything else up, I can't wait!!!!!

As for names, we've decided on the middle names - William Ypres. William is DH's middle name and his dad's first name, and Ypres was my dad's middle name. The first name will be either Jacob, Benjamin or Ethan. Probably Jacob....Jacob William Ypres Lewis

elliepmummy · 25/10/2006 09:27

Loubie love that name good luck with th deorating and can't wait to see your 4d pics!

Changing bags I am on no3 first one was M&P that matched pushchair but it ripped after 6 months so got a replacement from M&P (went for the denim look one) but havent used it since DD was around 15months transferred to a large canvas style bag big enough to fit juice, spare nappies wipes etc but also alot smaller than changing bag (& husband doesnt mind taking this one with him as its khaki green) but suppose when baby born I'll go bak to big changing bag for a while especially as I always carry spare knickers and trousers for DD in case of an accident

lulu25 · 25/10/2006 11:50

I agree that is a fine name. What's the history with Ypres if you don't mind me asking? I like the idea of family names (Loubie and DH too). We are thinking about George maybe with Stanley (DP's grandfather) as a middle name.

Had my 28 weeks appointment this morning. Apparently the young one is "measuring big" - 30 weeks based on the tape measure/bump test. I have heard this approach is notoriously unreliable though. Someone please tell me it is - I don't want a 10-pound whopper first time round.

MrsPeacock · 25/10/2006 12:16

Hello everybody,
Sympathies for 2happy.
I had my glucose test yesterday, was so hungry I felt quite dizzy by the end of it. The glucose drink is evil it makes your teeth buzz its so sweet. Then GP's rang to ask if I had starved for my last bloods (they didn't ask me to) and if I hadn't they were normal! This possibly means that some busy body decided I had fasted and sent me for an unecessary test! Genius! Although I'll wait and see what the results are before getting too complacent.
Damn wobbly pelvis is playing up today and walking is like being kicked in the crotch every step - grrr!
I discovered a light pram/travel system in M&P different and lighter (by 1.5kg) than the pramette, I might have to go and give it a try.
I havn't even thought abotu change bags yet, just thought I'd get a bigger handbag, are they particualy useful?

Loubie37 · 25/10/2006 12:42

TBH I haven't a clue about where Ypres came from - all I know is it's a place in Belgium where my Grandad may have fought in the war, but it's pronounced differently....in my dad's name it was 'Ee pray', but I think the place name is pronounced 'Eeeps'. As dad and both grandparents on his side have all died, I've no-one to ask! All I do know is that mt Dad adored my two, he thought the world of them and vice versa and I know he would have been just as thrilled with this little one, so I wanted to honour him in some way. His first name was Ivor...I can't bring myself to call a little boy that, so Ypres it is as a third name

Right, I'd best get on with the painting - just popped downstairs to make DH a cup of tea!

Loubie xx

Daisypops · 25/10/2006 15:21

Sorry to hear about your gran 2Happy. x

I think I'm been a bit daft here but whats all this abuot changing bags Are there some really crappy ones out. I've just got the Huggies freeby one but I was thinking about getting a jazzier one.

Dh for names we have Daniel for a boy (obviously) and Starla for a girl. DP chose both. My mum doesn't like Starla she said she hoped it would grow on her but it hasn't-charmin'!

Hope your feeling better UD.

Lulu25, not sure how accurate the measuring thing is, last time I went I was 27 weeks and measured 28. So next time I go I'm going to ask if he/she is a big 'un!!!

On a previous post I was saying I didn't have problems sleeping(smug emoticons) well, last night I woke up at 2.45am and could not get back to sleep, I wasn't uncomfortable just wide awake for some reason. I'm sure my body is preparing for when bub is here!

theUrbanDryad · 25/10/2006 15:23

i was going to make my changing bag out of an old skirt, but i really need to get behind the sewing machine and get on with it if i am going to do that. only trouble is, it's bright pink corduroy and i can't see DH being too happy about carrying that through town. oh well, if he wants to buy his own one then he can, and he can do without the new book he wants instead.

had mw appt today, she had a student with her who took my blood. the first bottle was fine, but then for some reason the vein just started to dribble rather than spurt like it's supposed to. she wasn't supporting the bottle so it was really hurting, but i didn't want to say anything cause i didn't want to make her nervous! then the mw looked over, and said quite crossly "oh, what ARE you doing!" so they had to do two more bottles in my other arm! now i've got lovely big bruises on my arms (i usually NEVER bruise with blood tests!) and i'm a bit cross because if the mw didn't think the student was good enough to do the bloods why was she letting her do them on me!!? wow, what a garbled rant! but baby dude is all fine, i was actually waiting for longer than i was in there! they seem to think i'm 28+1, but by my reckoning i'm 30+1. so i've absolutely no idea when this baby is going to show up, hopefully when he's ready and not before, but we shall see!

MotherBeaker · 25/10/2006 15:34

Really sorry about your gran 2Happy

Am feeling like sh*t on a stick today because I have dh's cold. And I can't take any sick days off work .

Was thinking about changing bags myself - can anyone recommend any other essentials to put in them for the first timer here.

As for names, my dh is Indian therefore ds's name is going to be Shiva (pronounced Sheeva) Prem (which means love and is dh's father's name). Apparently they are old family names, I really like them but some people have looked at me like this when I have told them!

Daisypops · 25/10/2006 15:40

The name you have chosen is lovely MB. Don't listen to others, its your decision. When I've told folk my girly name they go LITERALLY! but who cares we love it.

I was going to ask abuot sterilisers. I've seen one thats a steriliser and a warmer in one (can't remember the make) any recommendations/tips anyone?

lulu25 · 25/10/2006 17:40

Shiva is a cool name.

theUrbanDryad · 25/10/2006 17:47

i've been given a steam steriliser but it's not a warmer. not thinking of using bottles for a month or two as want to get the hang of bf-ing if i can. but also want DH to take part in feeds so will express from 8 weeks or so.

so goes my awesome plan anyway...we'll see what actually happens when this baby shows up!

JoJo30 · 25/10/2006 18:01

Is anyone else really struggling at work? I'm so tired and suffering from a real lack of motivation. There's just too many other things to think about.

Everyone here seems really organised though. haven't thought about changing bags, sterlisers, etc yet. Going shopping with my Mum on Sunday, so might have to start a list!

Just been to the dentist and found out I need a filling. She can't do it for a few weeks, so I'll be 33 weeks by then. Really not looking forward to it. Sorry, I'm wallowing in my self pity today!

Good news though, got appt for physio next week for my pelvic pain.

Love the names! Don't listen to people being negative, it's not their decision.

Dragonhart · 25/10/2006 19:18

I love all the names. When I told my nan last time about the girls names I liked, she said 'oh well, you have afew months to decide' .

Ok so maybe Im alone with the multiple changing bags!

I just had a microwave steriliser as I didnt do much bottle feeding. Just really used it for my breastpump and afew bottles then when we started to wean DS. Not sure what you need if you bottle feed really. Might need a more heavy duty one. I thought the microwave one was good though and didnt take up much space. Think most people think bottle warmers are a waste of time though.

My DH had to rush to get my sterilliser and breast pump at 11 at night in tesco as I was having problems getting started breast feeding. I couldnt get him to latch on properly, so expressed, then fed him that. Then in the morning rang the breastfeeding counciler and she came round later that day to give me a hand. From then on it got easier and easier! I would def recomend getting it before, even if you dont use it for afew months just in case.

BTW Tesco have got 20% off all children's clothes at the moment. Worth a look.

Hope everyone else is ok. xxx
