Whaddya think?!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
lulu25 · 09/10/2006 13:27

Yeah for about a week. I think I would have ended up malnourished (not to mention completely miserable) if I'd followed it and some of the things you're not supposed to eat are barking (aubergines, raw tomatoes). I've given up wheat, but for other reasons (my digestive system just wasn't coping, say no more). I am doing some of the other non diet related stuff though and I think it's helping - staying active (yoga, swimming, gym although I was doing all that before) and going to give hypnotherapy a go. And my darling boyfriend is really looking forward to the perineal massage from week 30 bit.

theUrbanDryad · 09/10/2006 13:29

i sort of thought about following it after i read an article about it in a magazine, but that was when i was already 18 weeks, and still doing all the naughty things you're not supposed to do ...i had pate. and fizzy wine. and prawns. [sob] i'm going to be an awful mother!!!!

coffeebeanz · 09/10/2006 13:56

Managed to get a copy of the magazine today. What a shame you were not in it Urban but I'm sure you've got some great memories of the day. Magnolia you look superb !!!!!

I dont think I'd last long on the birth diet, already had prawn spring rolls and chocolate today.

As for not sleeping, the best advice I can give which personally works well for me is sex, sex and more sex !

coffeebeanz · 09/10/2006 13:59

OOoops .... Love2dance forgot to say hello and welcome to the thread

Love2dance · 09/10/2006 13:59

Me too Urban! Got told off by another pregnant woman 2 weeks ago for eating a prawn sarnie; have had occasional glass of wine and before I discovered I was preggers was quaffing champagne and eating Stilton and Brie at best mate's to celebrate the birth of her first. Not to mention all those joints (just kidding about the last one).
I like the advice from Gowrie about massage, good diet, reflexology and so on but am finding some of it a bit too prescriptive for me.

Am also feeling guilty for giving in to urge to go out and dance a few weeks ago as music was loud. Dh and I must have been the only ones not under the influence of E's but felt smug just being high on the music and not gurning away like an idiot.

jessddibs · 09/10/2006 14:04

Sorry to hear that you are having a rough time of it Urban, hope all gets better soon.x.

I am also having a hard time sleeping, but I must say that I do have a double bed to myself! Dh snores BIGTIME so we havn't shared a bed for a year or two (apart from when I got really pissed!) And the plus point is that I can stretch out and read my book if need be!

I havn't been to the cinema yet, we are going wednesday to see the devil wears prada...Dh and I did see the departed this weekend. Now that is a good film, thought it may be a bit gross and too violent, but the storyline was quite good and it looked brilliant. Plus there is some lovely eye candy!! Well worth a look!

Trinity, have you got a consultants app yet? hope you are not worrying to much...hope all is ok.

Dh seems to be behaving, left phone out which I checked and found nothing..(I know that he may have deleted stuff) and he was in at 10.30pm on friday which is early for him. He is still being quite nice to me and dd to, so who knows, maybe all that crap is water under the bridge....

Catch you all later.x.

laughalot · 09/10/2006 14:24

Welcome to lovetodance im due the same day as you do you know what your having ?

Coffee sex are you kidding ?

Mrs Urban glad your back give the council a kick up the ass.

Well dh goes away on that cruise tomorrow lucky bugger.

TheUnholyTrinity · 09/10/2006 14:27

scan app with the consultant on wed

fingers crossed for then

theUrbanDryad · 09/10/2006 14:35

love2dance - there's absolutely NO reason why you shouldn't go out and have a laugh when you're pregnant! it's not an illness y'know! i'd stay off those mitzis though ...where you based? what sort of music are you into?

theUrbanDryad · 09/10/2006 15:27

just a quickie - but has anyone used non-disposable nappies? i really want to, but i'm unsure of the actual mechanics of them, as it were. do you fold them, or are they like disposbales that you wash? how does the cover figure into it? i'm so confused....

lulu25 · 09/10/2006 16:20

No, but awaiting a consignment from 6-month-old cousin who is just growing out of his first lot. His parents haven't found it too much hassle - they reckon one extra wash every two days. No folding or pins involved - velcro fastenings. There are lots of different brands but I'm not sure what cousin is using. You might find a thread in one of the other sections or even reviews.

theUrbanDryad · 09/10/2006 16:37

just been looking at the product reviews, and a few sites...i'm even MORE confused now!! [sobs] i think bambino mio looks the best. plus, they have a useful video showing how they're supposed to be used.

i want curry....

MrsPeacock · 09/10/2006 16:48

Howdy,
I am keen to use washable nappies too, I too tried to do some internet based research but got horribly confused. This site might help you www.realnappycampaign.com/
I got as far as finding a local nappy lady that will come round and do demos and lend you samples of all the brands so you can decide which are best for you and your baby. The nappies all come in differents fits, with different liners, boosters, etc. So I guess it depends on what kind of baby we get as well. Skinny, chunky, fidgety, especially wet or pooey, all factors to take into account and they are a huge one off expense, but save money in the long run. Also check out your council (I know you are gettting enough grief off them at the moment anyways) but some encourage use of washables by giving you a contribution towards the cost or at least recommend a local supplier.
My council were rubbish, (cheeky pun ) but I often have a go at them about their recycling scheme anyways.
So I am going to wait until baby arrives until I get in touch with nappy lady, and try all the ones I can to see how we get on.

MrsPeacock · 09/10/2006 16:49

mmm curry!

lulu25 · 09/10/2006 17:15

That was much more helpful than my post. It is as you say basically down to the baby - cousin is strapping and cheerful, but LO could be small and fretful. I will just have to meet him and canvass his opinion.

carrotcake · 09/10/2006 17:34

Mitzies- Urban and love2dance, it's been ten years but I remember those! If you're feeling up to going out for a dance then go for it, I didn't make it to the end of the cinema the other night before dozing off, sigh!

Like Lulu, I've pretty much stayed off wheat for digestive reasons, won't go into detail , but as for the rest of Gowri Motha, I found it impossible, especially giving sugar, and I really crave flapjacks and they have to be the very buttery sugary kind! All those treatments would cost a fortune too, some of it's common sense like regular exercise, relaxation etc but way too prescriptive for me. It might result in a gentle birth but it seemed to require a pretty harsh prenancy...

Love2dance · 09/10/2006 17:40

Laughalot: I don't know what I'm having. I wanted to know at first then dh suggested it would be nice to keep it a surprise so I agreed. At the 12 week scan I noticed something between the little one's legs. Just then the silly Dr. asked: "Do you want to know the sex?" But he admitted it was too early to tell.

Urban: I'm based in London. I'm into all sorts of music but when it comes to going out I really like house. Not techno or anything hard but the stuff that's based on the soulful, vocal funky tunes of yesteryear. Guess I'm an old disco queen at heart but have been trying to play a bit of classical to the little one.

Did someone say curry? Ooops, already forgot I had it Friday night.

LadyTophamHatt · 09/10/2006 18:39

bloody hell....will you lot stop posting, I can't keep up!!

Welcome to the newcomers, nothing much to report here. I have my MW appt on wednesday which must mean I'm 28 weeks....I thought I was only 27.
I love it whne that happen!!

elliepmummy · 09/10/2006 18:56

I was trying to work out how many weeks I was and couldnt do it so had to get my mat notes out and count weeks since last appt. I'm 26 wks got midwife in 2 weeks and got to have the glucose blood test so given me a diet sheet to eat that day and its all yuck!!!

Welcome to the new ones. Havent much to report here DH off this week as his bday tomorrow so going out for lunch with DD and he is having boys night out on weds football and curry and god knows what time he'll roll in!!

TheUnholyTrinity · 09/10/2006 18:58

is anyone else starting to feel like their bump is getting in the way sometimes and isn't comfy sometimes in the night. I've banged it with the fridge door and the car door now

starting feel heavy at the end of the day too

LadyTophamHatt · 09/10/2006 19:23

Oh god, trinity Abso-bloody-lutley.

Dropping scolding hot oil down my bump yesterday when cooking roast spuds.
Having trouble getting in and out of teh car.
The isn't an position that comfty for longer enough to get a decent sleep.
Can't wear my bag across me anymore (thats ounds really wierd...YKWIM though, I'm sure) because the strap really irritates me.
Over the bump maternity clothes dig in at the top, under the bump fall down because my bump is really low.

Heaven help me, I've still got 3 months to go!

NastyNemo666 · 09/10/2006 21:00

hi all quick pop in as been hectic...

Who asked about cloth nappies??? I use them and love motherease one size..excellent nappies that go from birth to potty and are super easy to use..D is nearly 10mths and only started using them on her but will use for DB too. Also have a couple of totsbots as they are smaller so fit under jeans etc.

Had consultant appointment last week and have to have the stupid GTT again 2 wks today. Then back to consultant 2 wks after..also supposed to see mw day after GTT for my bloods so am going to cancel that and move it over.
We got our new cot on fri and double pram which is quite scarey. Need to go through all the clothes in the loft to prepare for baby but will do that next month. Ds is 3 tommorow and cant believe how quickly it has passed..my little boy is growing up and I cant stop him

Anyways hope everyone is ok...plus I agree about the bumps being awkward I keep knocking Ds over if he stands too close and poor DD when I carry her cant get her legs comfy..lol

lulu25 · 09/10/2006 21:00

Oh god my wardrobe is a complete disaster. I couldn't find ANY nice maternity trousers, so I am still wearing normal jeans held up with a waistband extension crafted from a hair elastic. Was doing better with tops, but osteopath has ordered me to ditch underwired bras in favour of sports bras (and, curses, he was right) which show under every top I've got and not in an alluring way.

theUrbanDryad · 09/10/2006 22:02

love2dance: yeah i'm kinda more into house these days, though in my younger carefree days i was well into the acid techno scene, used to dj at free parties and stuff. but these days i'm more into the house scene, seems a bit more chilled than the techno lot, less ketamine and pikeys too. although DH and i are talking about getting a camper next year and taking DB to a few outdoor raves in the summer. with ear protectors for the LO, natch

i looked at the campaign for real nappies site, very helpful. seems my council DO run a scheme, despite the fact that they told me they didn't......bloody council, can't get anything right...

Nemo what is GTT? am i being thick? ...hope all's well anyway...

elliepmummy · 10/10/2006 09:01

Nemo happy birthday to your DS hope he has a lovely day (its DH bday today too so according to him a great day to be born on!)

So far I have managed to iron my bump, get stuck in a car park space as didnt think I was to big and coulnt get the door open enough to get out and noticed that bending down I have to squat I cant bend forward anymore and lastly DH decided to tell me that I am starting to waddle (nice!) anyway better get off her and get DH dressed as she has stripped her clothes off!!
