Fedup I'm sorry you're having such a nightmare with your renovations! I can't imagine having any kind of work going on in my house right now...

frau if you pm kirstipops she can add you to the fb group.

bingo is it definitely sciatica you have? I ask because pgp (pelvic girdle pain) is often misdiagnosed as sciatica during pregnancy.

mum2kiss · 06/08/2014 11:17

Welcome sweetpea :)

I remember that to 2008 Olympics was on when Dd was born so I watched that during the wee hours to keep me from falling asleep on the job! Not sure what I will do this time as I don't think dp will be too amused if I'm sat there with the TV on half the night! I guess I'll be hanging out here with the rest of the sleep deprived!

STIGZ · 06/08/2014 11:20

Right ladies, DP announced last night that that he's not sure now about the name we have chosen for our DD2! The name is Ebony give me your honest opinions on it please!!

Im gutted as its the only name we both agreed on and i honestly dont like any other names!! Now i am doubting myself and thinking is it really such a horrible name ?? My mum hates it, best friend not keen at all, mil loves it ?? Im so confused and bloody raging that i will now have to find an alternative... Everybody elses (family) suggestions are repulsing me as i have came across many of the choices in the nursery where i work year after year!!! I have never came across an Ebony ever !! Think thats why i like it !!

tak1ngchances · 06/08/2014 11:46

See now stigz that's why we are not telling our name to a SOUL. If my mum or sister or friends want to name babies then they can have their own Wink

Fwiw ebony is a gorgeous name. What sort of colouring is she likely to have?

binkybunny · 06/08/2014 11:49

Stigz Ebony is a lovely name! Not that it matters as it's your choice, but does your mum have any reasons for hating it or does she just not like the name?

If you and DP like then go for it. If he's having second thoughts find out exactly why and tell him to come up with an alternative.

We have chosen Isabella which is one of the most popular names this year. I went through a wobble of changing it, but I couldn't think of another name I liked (apart from Savannah, but DH says it reminds him of cider!) so we have decided to keep it.

tak1ngchances has a very good point about not telling people the name beforehand - everyone has such different taste and someone is bound to pull a face. I think it's very different when you meet a child and are told its name, even if your initial reaction is 'wtf' you get used to it incredibly quickly.

If you do need an alternative unusual name, a girl in dd's class is called Ylvie. It means "little wolf" and has really grown on me since I first heard it.

mum2kiss thanks, I will do.

Pregnantagain7 · 06/08/2014 12:20

Welcome sweetpea
I vowed never to tell anyone my baby names when my mum totally slaughtered the name I had chosen last time,it was Lola and she said she absolutely hated it, ended up being a boy and we called him Luca.
I did actually end up telling her again this time what we have chosen but first said I don't actually care what you say this time cos this is what we are having. It's Rocco and she hates it! She said its a dogs name because her friends daughter in law has dog called Rocco never mind the hundreds of thousands of people called Rocco she focuses on the one dog she knows with the same name!! Grin

STIGZ · 06/08/2014 12:30

It was my dp that slipped up to my mum, i didnt want anyone to know, so my mum has made it very public knowlege now to anyone that asks and makes it clear what she thinks!! Hence why i didnt want anyone to know so i could have killed him when he said it!! If i think of an alternative i am actually going to suggest when dd is lying in my arms so that i dont risk this happning again !!

I love rocco & isabella even though quite popular Never came across one in my nursery yet.., xx

STIGZ · 06/08/2014 12:35

P.s my mum associates it with a chavvy family she knows so she should understand why im struggling to come up with a name that i dont associate with the children in work that i see on a daily basis for atleast 2 years!!

Kirstipops · 06/08/2014 13:11

We are still no further forward with names here either, how frustrating you'd settled on one though Stigz and now DP has gone off it, not to mention your mum!
I may try and Google some baby name ideas while I have my lazy afternoon today, had horrific backache this morning which eased off but was enough to have sent me into a terrible funk as my driving lesson was rotten today, ended up only doing half of my 3 hour lesson as my instructor could tell I really wasn't with it, an hour into the lesson she put her hand on my arm and said "You're not enjoying it today are you, are you OK? You look tired"....which of course started the waterworks out of nowhere, how embarrassing. Thankfully not big sobs, just uncontrollably watery eyes, but still cringeworthy. Sometimes I hate my preggo body with it's unpredictable hormones!
Frau I've PM'd you.
Hi Sweetpea, how has your pregnancy been so far?

SweetPeaPods · 06/08/2014 13:43

Kirstiepops much better than last pg thanks. Can't believe how quickly it's going! I am finding it tiring though.
We're struggling on baby names here too. If it was a girl we would have gone for Caitlin.
We really struggled to name DS so no idea on this one! DH likes Rory but I only know naughty Rory's!
Did I see someone mention a FB group?

STIGZ · 06/08/2014 13:44

Aww kirsti i feel for you.. When those hormones pop up out of nowhere ... Try & get some rest inbetween now & your next lesson ... I think you are doing brill doing lessons while pregnant... I couldnt have done it, it is a stressful thing but if i can do it you can certainly can (",) i was a nervous wreck doing my 1 hour a week lesson and always felt emotionally drained after xx you will get there i promise!!

Happytimes31 · 06/08/2014 13:49

Oh god names...don't even get me started...hopefully we will decide at some point Smile.

Possibly opening Pandora's box but is anyone else thinking of using a secondhand electric breast pump (medula) from a friend of a friend? Obvs would be cleaned, sterilised to within an inch of its life according to the medula instructions and could get replacement valves etc. Clearly if visible mould straightaway then not an option.

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 06/08/2014 13:54

We have sort of decided on names, DH isnt really keen on either but said as he got to name DS (thought it was a joint decision personally!) that I can choose this one! I keep going off the names then really liking them again so no idea if they'll stick. I had a friend recently who's baby was over a month old before it got given a name, really don't want that to be us! Funny thing is my friend ended up naming it after her DH so they must have been really stumped!

Missus2ndwife · 06/08/2014 14:10

We've had so many arguments over names I actually try change the subject whenever someone brings it up.

OH & I are complete opposites, liking different things. He likes traditional and I like biblical and unusual (like my name).

We have also experienced people giving us their views on names so I am trying to keep our name thoughts to ourselves. OH keeps discussing it with everyone and then the other day he came home saying 'Ive spoken to my dad and he's OK if we use his name' - his father's name was never an option!!! AARGHHH !!!

fatpony · 06/08/2014 14:11

Goats glad you got a better nights sleep. I thought I had cracked it for the past few nights but woke up starving at 4am and by the time I had finished munching oatcakes in the kitchen while reading Which? magazine (exciting times) I was wide awake and tossed and turned for the remaining hours.

I am absolutely detemined not to let my mum know the baby's intended name as I get the feeling she won't like it - I even had a dream not long ago that she rang up two weeks post birth to kind of harangue me about it and get me to change it! She did it with my wedding dress which I loved so much and she wanted me to go with a much more boring one. Apart from these things she is lovely :)

SweetPeaPods · 06/08/2014 14:30

Fatpony I'm the same with snacks during night. Ds woke me up at 1 so when I got him back to sleep I was hungry. Strawberry milkshake & flapjack later I was wide awake!!

Kirstipops · 06/08/2014 15:18

Thanks STIGZ :) I must admit I didn't think it would be much of a big deal doing the lessons semi-intensive like this, the worst I worried about was feeling stiff occasionally from driving for 2-3 hours a day for 2 weeks, I didn't even think about the hormones!! My arm now feels a bit crappy so I'm wondering if maybe the whooping cough jab yesterday has deflated me a bit.

Sweetpea I sent you a PM about the FB group.

SweetPeaPods · 06/08/2014 18:13

Thanks Kirsti.
My arm hurt for a few days after jab too. Good on you for doing lessons while pg. I'm a rubbish driver while pregnant!

mum2kiss · 06/08/2014 18:33

We know neither of our mothers will like our name choices so we're not telling. My mum actually asked me to change dd's name after she was born because her work colleagues were having trouble pronouncing it! Um NO!

Went in to town today and took Dd to the cinema...my goodness I could only walk at a snails pace and I fell asleep a few times during the movie! Can't manage much at all these days!

YellowWellies · 06/08/2014 18:41

Kirsti I think you're epic but have to confess I gave up my one hour a week lessons as it was just too stressful with preggo hormones.

We're sorted (ish) on names. Lillemor if a girl, Magnus or Finn if a boy Smile only my sis is in the know in real life as she has very similar tastes to us.

mrsb87 · 06/08/2014 18:54

We've had the name hassles with mil, we love Rufus for a boy but mil thought it was a dogs name and thought it was hilarious! Poor dh was really hurt by this as he had really grown to love it. I think he's coming round to it again now though. I just don't understand why people think they can have such an opinion on such important things!
