Congrats to all those whose babies have arrived. Enjoy the snuggles.

inca sorry to hear you're feeling like this esp re: dh. Sounds like you both need a really good chat? I know you have another dc but is it possible that you guys could pop out for a bit of a date before baby is due to get some quality time away and chat? I've been finding I'm grumpy and tired every evening when hubby gets home and less communicative. We went out for a really nice dinner last week and talked so much more about becoming parents and birth and how we were both feeling than we would at home.
I'm sure he'd be devastated if he knew you felt his training and IM will be more important than your recovery and the new baby. Definitely worth chatting it through, although tough to do-so good luck!
Oh and as for second child affecting first, things will change but probably for the better and you'll discover what a great big brother (?!) he is and he'll surprise you in ways you couldn't imagine. My mum tells stories of how my brother used to copy her breastfeeding with a doll and used coasters as breast padsGrin I'm sure you'll discover lots of similar joys! (Not sure why that story wasn't shared at his wedding....)

ZingWhale · 01/07/2014 09:50

inca

I honestly think most men just don't get it.
even the ones who are already dads.
Just not half a clue....
DH made me cry this morning because he announced that he wants to build a shed this summer.
Seriously? Seriously???!!!!
Is that really what you think we will be focusing on?
Is that what he really thinks we will have energy or spare time to spend on or think about?!

I screamed at him that he was a moron and a fucking idiot and he looked surprised and asked why I was getting all worked up.
Honestly. just WTF?
He makes me want to strangle him...Angry

or at least throw shoes at him.

I'm so sorry you have all those worries, but do remember you are not alone in having them.
it is normal to worry about how you will cope, especially after a C-section if needed, so the next time anybody offers help say "yes, please, I might take you up on that - what's your phone number?"
And do not hesitate to ask for help! people who love you will be more than happy to help you!

(big hugs)

inca I've had to say no to my DH about his windsurfing obsession the last couple of weeks. I don't think he realised how bad I was feeling and that I needed him at home. He misses dinner most nights as it is from working late so to then go windsurfing on top of that was pissing me off. Not to mention the stress when he's late home and I have visions of him being swept out info the Pacific Ocean. I'm sure he's already planning how soon after baby he'll be able to go out again. They just don't get it.
I too worry about the impact on DD1. I know in the long term though it's going to be so nice having the two girls grow up together so I'm trying to focus on that.

Anyway, it's 2am so I should try to sleep some more.

BlueC2 · 01/07/2014 10:15

Huge congrats mixi sorry you had such a rough do -must say I'm not a big fan of pethidine as made me v sick (green puke-nice!) and didn't ease the pain with DS! Has your itching now stopped?

Inca I have moments of total panic re coping with a toddler and newborn and spent most of yesterday evening in tears because DH suggested taking DS to his parents for the day tomorrow-only an hour away but I couldn't cope with thought of them being away Blush Interestingly hink it's a natural part of our nesting and emotional prep for birth/motherhood (even if not the first time) that stuff comes to the fore. I think the suggestion of trying to get an evening out to chat with DH sounds a good plan.

So after being an emotional wreck all evening I did actually sleep pretty well, though alas still feel exhausted this morning. More period like low level cramps last night and this morning so wondering if body is starting to think about things please bear with me as I'll probably be saying this in a hopeful fashion every day for next 2 weeks

But woohoo for it now being July :) come on July babies you know you want some cuddles :)

Morning all. Inca, sorry you are finding things a little tough, I just don't think they get how tough this end of pregnancy part is. It's draining, exhausting and irritating too with everyone waiting for you to pop the baby out - and that's without a toddler to look after.

Congratulations Mixi!

Due date for me and I'm starting to feel like this baby may never arrive, it seems very comfortable and no real signs. I'm ok waiting at the moment but getting extremely fed up of the texts and calls - even though I know they are all so well intentioned.

Midwife is coming to do a sweep today, as far as I understand there isn't a lot of point if this don't look favourable but at least I'll get an idea of how the old cervix is looking and if there's even a chance that it'll get things moving then that would be handy!

At least I should be having this baby sometime within the next two weeks...

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 01/07/2014 11:59

Am still sulking as I wanted a June baby! I can't believe the last few days of a horrible pregnancy are now going to be taken up with a bloody heatwave. I was showing lots of signs of early labour but they keep stopping.

At least I know I am being induced on Friday but what if they are too busy or don't have a bed? I will cry.

Congrats mixi on your lovely little boy. I must say all the names of the newborns are absolutely lovely. Not a Frogmella Rothmans in sight!

KitKatChick · 01/07/2014 12:09

Wow, that took a while to catch up on. Congratulations mixi! Can't believe how many babies there are already. I'm not due till the end of July so will have to wait my turn and yes, it could well end up being August.

Finally decided on my mat leave start -28th July. Seems ages away but really just 19 more working days with a couple of midwife appointments in between. Very pleased to be on the countdown.

My maternity cover started a couple of weeks ago and so far I'm not too impressed :( Funny how wrong you can get people during an interview. Oh well, will have a chat with my manager and see what he thinks as he'll be the one putting up with it. Maybe my pregnancy hormones are making me more demanding.

HomeIsWhereTheGinIs · 01/07/2014 12:33

Hi all. I'm a bit taken aback by everyone worrying about their DH's being away during the day. Mine has gone off to do some country sports all day today. I'm too waddly to do anything fun, but it seems a bit mean to tell him he can't? Also two separate shop assistants told me I was "brave" to be out shopping so close to my due date yesterday. Did I miss a missive where we're all supposed to stay home until we pop? And that our DH's are supposed to give up doing things they enjoy until that happens too?

To the Head Tilt series of books - because one will never be enough: 'Do you know what you're having?!' (Especially from strangers in the supermarket) 'Yes, a baby. We wanted a puppy but these things happen.'

Congrats mixi! And thanks everyone including Blue for the pethidine warning - it's explicitly forbidden on my birth plan but I am glad I have some rationale for it now. No desire for green vom or dopiness on the day!

Inca this is my first, and definitely wanted now although unplanned, but even so I have days of complete emotional flatness and ambivalence. I am already missing the days of being half of a couple, not a third of a family. My sister is expecting her second and said some very similar things the other day about her love for her first child and how sad she was that it wouldn't be just the three of them. Completely get where you're coming from.

liquid crossing Frogmella off the list, reluctantly.

Zing please put me on the pre-order list for Head-Tilt (not that I'm going through this exhaustion EVER AGAIN but it would make a nice gift).

mupperoon · 01/07/2014 13:10

Oh and hayley I had a good few mins of bump-wobbling laughs at your craving for decrepit building dust last night, particularly the idea of you eating your shed! I feel a bit short-changed that my most outrageous craving was for Heinz Ravioli.

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 01/07/2014 13:19

gin - I don't expect DH to give up going out (or me for that matter) - but I can't help but be a bit jealous of the fact it's still easy for him to go out if that makes sense! I would usually be happily gig-going, bombing round town etc, but I'm finding increasingly that I just feel really tired and ill if I try to do things at my normal pace - Friday's hen do being a case in point! Definitely don't want to spend all of the run-up to the baby's arrival indoors in front of my laptop/the telly though... I think we're both just finding our balance.

On that note, I'm going to attempt to go for a swim this afternoon :)

Incapinka · 01/07/2014 13:43

You guys are all amazing. Thank you so much for your responses. I wasn't really expecting any so am feeling the July love. Thank you.

Men just don't get it do they? Mine is usually pretty good but even when he says he understands it is very apparent that he hasn't got a clue. Like your DH Zing he did mention that his next project will be to build a playhouse in the garden. He seemed rather shocked when I reacted quite strongly and had to explain that the next 3 months are ultra busy with work and a new team, IM training 6 days a week (the 15 September when it is all over cannot come soon enough) and spending maybe some time with his wife, son and baby. Evidently the playhouse will be his project after all that. I think I may just go and buy one.

Have just got back from an exhausting toddler session and put DS down for a nap. He doesn't always sleep but am praying he does today as I need a break after yet another night averaging 4 hours sleep.

Will try and stop moaning now but thank you everyone for all your kindness and will see whether we can get out one night in the next week. We need to do something.

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 01/07/2014 13:45

I am still eating prawn crackers by the bucket load... and see nothing weird with dust. My sister ate coal during one of her pregnancies.

I also hate the not being told to go out and do things on our own. My mum is here to keep an eye on me and won't let me go anywhere on my own.

I wish DH would bugger off out somewhere in the evenings. He is dominating the telly and there is only so much outback truckers and police chase tv I can take. Although he is threatening to drive to Hereford over the weekend if the baby is out by then to look at a Landrover. Its a 3 hour drive away Hmm

Incapinka · 01/07/2014 13:45

Excellent job kitkat!

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 01/07/2014 13:46

Oh and he is planning on redoing our front garden during paternity leave...

MrsA2 · 01/07/2014 13:56

Mine told me he is getting a bit bored of waiting and that this week would be great as he is looking forward to a holiday... (Mind you, he did go and get me ice cream on Sat night when I may have cried because we didn't have anything sweet to eat in the house)

Incapinka · 01/07/2014 14:16

Bored of waiting?!?!

Mine tried to work out a convenient date to arrive and gave up.

Life does seem to revolve round them!!
