Just can't get comfortable anywhere this evening-if I lie down heartburn goes crazy, sit up in any position bump really hurts, no energy to bounce on ball. So thought I'd try kneeling in front of sofa footstool with pile of cushions on top and hug the cushions-i used this position in early labour last time and was great as bump can 'hang loose' so to speak. Only tonight it's left me feeling light headed and seriously nauseous :( trying to think what I mightve squished to make me feel this way or if it's just cos I'm exhausted?!! Eitherway not fun!

Collie1806 · 10/07/2014 22:23

Evening all!

I've been having severe cramps and sharp pains at the bottom of my bump all day, no pattern or anything and I don't know if it's Braxton Hicks, contractions or if the baby is just moving into positions that aren't comfortable for me.

I'm 40+5 and I've had no Braxton hicks at all yet so nothing to go on; can someone explain to me what actual contractions feel like?

icklekid · 10/07/2014 23:18

blue 3 suggestions - water, paracetamol, bath?

collie my contractions are tight across top of bump, sharp almost stabbing pain down below and often lower back ache too!

Plateofcrumbs · 11/07/2014 00:07

good luck ickle hopefully things will start properly very soon!

incapinka and muperoon - I've done the 'signing up for events needing a big training commitment without consulting DH' too but with the luxury of being child-free I think it's a whole different ball game. At least I know DH would be very supportive of me getting out exercising again post-baby (in theory at least - will be interesting to see how that pans out if/when that involves him compromising his own activity schedule).

On crafts vs nesting: I've got tonnes of crafty things I want to do, but have been getting a bit 'nesty' and obsessively washing and cleaning all the baby stuff. Finally have the hospital bag very nearly packed and have constructed, cleaned/disinfected and made up the bednest. So I feel a little better knowing that if everything kicked off tomorrow we have what we need for hospital and the immediate things we need when we get back. DH needs to do car seat and buggy prep this weekend (have been saying this for last few weeks though!).

ZingGoesPop · 11/07/2014 00:08

collie

sharp pains and twinges are not Braxton Hicks.

period tupe dull ache just under your belly/top of pubic bone are contractions, sometimes accompanied by loose poo or the feel you need to go or back ache.

contractions are typically "wave-like" sensations, you will feel a crampy/period like ache that is getting stronger until it peaks in intensity then it will go weaker and stop.
frequency, length & intensity can be very irregular in early labour, so if you think you have these record the time each one starts and how long it lasts.

you might have a few in an hour, then nothing.
it might be going on for each night for hours yet you don't go into proper labour for days.

if you think you are in labour always call labour ward - they can tell by the way you talk, breathe etc if you should go in and will advise you what to do.

good luck ickle let's hope baby arrives tomorrow! Smile

I sorted some baby clothes today and it made me cry, because the next time I do that it will be to get rid of most of them Sad
I kind of don't want this pg to end because I know I will never do this again but despite all the problems I love being pg.

probably one of the reasons I still don't feel ready for baby to arrive.
not yet.
which means I find it hard to get excited about baby, which in turn makes me feel guilty.
So I'm sad, resentful, angry, frustrated and irritable. it's very confusing

icklekid · 11/07/2014 02:19

zing definition is good- agree with wave like feeling. Also people on labour wards very good at knowing best thing to do. I was having contractions every 3-4min lasting an minute at least however as was able to talk through it they advised staying at home. Need to call by 9 either way. Am up with pains but not as regular as last night- good to have had some sleep but am a little impatient- do not want to be induced (got until 3pm latest to go into active labour again!)

justhayley · 11/07/2014 04:57

Yay Iklelid that's really exciting - wishing you all the luck in the world with your labour and can't wait to hear baby news :)

Muperoon: I didn't have a nesting urge with DS either, although I was 5weeks early so it may have kicked in later. This time round iv been a bit annoyingly obsessive, I can't seem to get every part of the house spotlessly perfect for long enough to sit and enjoy it - blaming the toddler. I'm also loving the smell of bleach so keep doing and redoing the kitchen floor. Actually laying here now honking of the smell is making my mouth water this baby has turned me into a total freak

Blue: my DP has got to be the worlds worst tired person, in fact he seem to think he gets more tired than anyone else ever has before. When he's tired the world stops turning and he becomes completely useless. I understand his job (Army officer) is physical etc etc but seriously I'm 9 months pregnant looking after a toddler alone and have packed and unpacked our house whilst pregnant with toddler totally alone, there's a possibility I could be tired as well ...... Better not get me started thinking about that!

Collie it sounds like baby has dropped down onto a nerve maybe rather than contractions. Zings contraction post is spot on to my experience. For me even the very first "period like pain" had me bent over, although mine were very intense and I only had about 3 "little ones" and went straight into full blown labour.
Iv been getting sharp stabbing pains the last few days as well and have put it down to that.

Awww Zing: surely there's time to squeeze in babyzing8 :) it's normal your feeling like that, try not to focus on it as being an ending so to speak, and I know it's a bit far off but can you imagine how many grandchildren your going to get :) :) :) I bet all your children and future daughter in laws will be coming for you for help and advice and you will definitely be organising little clothes again.

My mum came over today, and she bought me a huge fan to go in my labour room. It will be great during labour but what I'll do with it after I don't no, it's so strong my DS said 'Nanny fan make me blow away' lol.
About 8pm she was just about to go home and I had a few pains that had me bent over the sink, they didn't feel like contractions but something was going on. Mum panicked and ended up staying the night as she was convinced she'd get half way home and be turning back. Unfortunately nothing else has happened tonight and it doesn't look like labour, but she's promised to get up and entertain DS in the morning so I can sleep in, so it for me anyway was totally worth her staying .... Or will be :)

Iv started a new thread for us - iv named it the final but actually the way we all chat there's a chance it won't be lol.
Anyway here is the link

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/2129900-The-final-JULY-2014-The-one-where-we-ALL-move-to-post-natal

I'm on my phone so not sure if if will come up as a proper link ??? If not can someone please re post it.

That's it for me - now 5am, iv been awake for just over an hour going to pop over to baby name thread in the hope someone has posted the perfect name for my baby girl and I can steal it lol.

Xxx

Nancy Yes, we're pretty close in due date. According to scans I'm due 28 July, but according to me I'm due 30 July. I chart, so I'm sticking with my estimate. I won last time. Wink

collie My DH wanted me to reply to you with, "Trust me, you'll know when you're in labour" but I absolutely refuse. That really, really annoyed me last time so I won't tell people that! Zing's description is spot on. I didn't really understand what they meant by "in waves" until my contractions began but it perfectly describes what it feels like. How are you now?

ickle Hope things get a move on for you so you don't have to be induced.

Getting really fed up with cramp now. Tried to walk some off this morning but actually couldn't walk so had to lie on bed whimpering till it settled.

Toddler sitting yesterday wasn't so bad as it was just a couple of hours. And my friend's taking my DD for a few hours today so I can get my hair cut, eyebrows done and have a hot chocolate in a café by myself. I'm pretty excited about having some proper Me time.

We have a wedding tomorrow afternoon - and plans to visit friends on Sunday - so hopefully everything stays quiet for the rest of the week. And DH has another job interview this afternoon so definitely don't want things to kick off.
