If you like it keepon then go with it, don't listen to anyone else.Everyone thinks our names are pretentious and my response is 'if I push it out of my vagina then I'm going to name it whatever the fuck I want!'

RPopz · 19/06/2014 20:05

HAHA Saras!! Grin

Agreed though, if you like it then go for it. There'll always be someone who doesn't like what you choose.

ViviPru · 19/06/2014 20:20

J200 fantastic! So glad to hear things went so well.

I love 'India' too Sara.

KeepOn Jasper is a favourite of mine although sadly not on our shortlist as it's the name of a close friends spaniel Sad . I love Jilly Cooper names, my #1 boys name is a JC. I tend to err towards supposed pretentious/public schoolboy names as they are often classic yet not overly common which is the holy grail for me.

Minibagel · 19/06/2014 20:31

Yay j200!! You can take it easy a bit now.

vivipru you make me laugh. So true though. I wouldn't share names before ds1 was born as everyone has an opinion and doesn't sugar coat it.

We have chosen a boys name and still have a girls name from when I was pg with ds1 although I am going off it slightly as it seems so tied in with that pg not this one. I think it's another boy though this time.

RPopz · 19/06/2014 20:31

Since we're talking names, what do you think of Kitty? I love it but not sure anyone else would...

Minibagel · 19/06/2014 20:32

keepon I don't think jasper makes you sound like a social climber. It's a lovely name, don't let anyone put you off.

KeepOnPloddingOn · 19/06/2014 20:34

Thanks rpopz
Saras- ha! This is actually a very good retort- and I shall be obliged to nick it from you!

vivi it is a pet name haha. I am with you though, I tend to go for very posh names- probably as they are unusual, yet not mental...

RPopz · 19/06/2014 20:35

Come to think of it I do know a cat and a springer spaniel named Jasper... hehe!

KeepOnPloddingOn · 19/06/2014 20:36

I love Kitty!

Thanks mini - we are not social climbers at all ( I'm a socialist for Gawds sake) yet I still fear my child would be judged for having such an - apparently- pretentious name...(most of my friends loathe it, haha)

KeepOnPloddingOn · 19/06/2014 20:39

Jesus what is it with spaniels being named Jasper? Not on. Talk about pretentious owners... ;)

RPopz · 19/06/2014 20:41

Hooray! I love Kitty too but don't know if I'd have to give a sensible name like Katherine - in case they grew up to hate it...

I have a spaniel. Spaniels are awesome. Therefore its clearly and awesome name! Grin

Minibagel · 19/06/2014 20:43

Ooh I love kitty too! My Dh insists that if it is a short form we name them the full name so Ted is Edward etc.

KeepOnPloddingOn · 19/06/2014 20:51

Rpopz - I like your thinking :)

Saraswati · 19/06/2014 21:00

Thanks for the name support guys! My mum laughed when I told her the names but I really don't care, my brothers children have very plain and boring names (one is the number 1 boys name!) and my mum really likes them so I expected it from her! Whereas I'm of the opposite opinion, if my nae was in the top 100 or whatever I wouldn't use it. But then I am very stubborn!

mini my cousin just had a baby named Edward (ted for short) and I love the name, he is also only 5 pounds and teeny tiny so it's very cute but think it would be cool on an older man too

Another vote for kitty here too, love it, would work for a child or an older woman!

Minibagel · 19/06/2014 21:10

saraswati I also avoided the top names when we chose ds1. I think it wasnt even in the top 100, or if it was it was low down. We did get a few people saying ooh what made you choose that? I'm guessing from that response that if we'd announced it before we wouls have had some unwelcome comments!

RPopz · 19/06/2014 21:14

Know what you mean Saras. Used to love the name Alfie but am reliably informed by friends with little ones that every other kid at nursery is an Alfie now!! Put me right off it.

rumisyum · 19/06/2014 21:17

My DH's top boy & girl names are the names of his childhood cats. So pet names are awesome. Smile

Saras I love that retort. I'll have to remember that one.

ViviPru · 19/06/2014 21:35

My sisters youngest is Kitty. Not a nn, Kitty on birth cert. An older Mum having had 1st DC 8 years before she said she knew it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea but after feeling DC1's name was a bit of a compromise back when she was less confident, she now didn't give a fig.

To echo Saras's earlier point - I'd say, you're the one pushing it out of your fanjo so you should get final name say!!! Grin

Minibagel · 19/06/2014 22:01
Thanks

Errm just testing to see if that works...

Minibagel · 19/06/2014 22:01

Oh my god it does!! Ha. I wondered how people were doing the little symbols. I wont be able to stop now Grin

cheshirem2b · 19/06/2014 22:04

More news! Baby is exactly 12weeks today! Scan went well... Baby doing somersaults and wriggling about! So pleased!
Couldn't do NT measurement because s/he wouldn't sit still long enough so got extra blood test in 2 weeks instead but sonographer said although couldn't measure it looked fine. Grin

Minibagel · 19/06/2014 22:09

Yay cheshire and good news about the nuchal measurement
