Hi all,

New thread and probably our last in ante-natal.

Holy crap!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
noseymcposey · 11/05/2014 18:52

Thanks for updating us with who has had their babies :) Just turned 36 weeks and FINALLY got the babies room ready today. I just need to catch up on some sleep and baby can come if it wants (not really.. I still have 10001 things to do, but I would be less stressed than if it had come last week! Baby's room was painted with two chocolate mousse coloured walls and 2 walls the colour of foundation... bluergh. Thanks previous occupants! But is now a very cheerful yellow and cherry yipppee!)

For what it's worth I do personally think it's a shame that most of the conversation has moved to facebook. This pregnancy has been a completely different experience mumsnet-wise to the fantastic support that I found first time round. Especially when someone new comes on the thread and I think 'hoorah! Someone else to talk to'! and then they promptly vanish to facebook - especially as I guess this will be the same for the postnatal threads. Each to their own though and if I was that bothered I could always join you on facebook or decamp to another mum's site (perish the thought!) I probably wouldn't have said anything but I think the lady that spoke up before got rather a pasting and felt a bit sorry for her as I doubt she's the only one to have thought that.

Anyway, whatever :)

When will you have another scan misshoohaa?

noseymcposey · 11/05/2014 18:53

Jealous of your two days left at work... I finish on Friday - 5 days and counting!

Bumblebeesmum · 11/05/2014 19:08

Nosey quite a few people have continued posting in both. I think it's really quite odd that a grown adult thinks it's acceptable to tell other people off for having friendships outside of an anonymous Internet forum. I'd think that even if people were off meeting with people local to them, but the fact that it's not even exclusive & everyone has been welcome makes it really quite baffling. I guess it just shows this really is a wide selection of people because I find it pretty ridiculous.

mylittlel · 11/05/2014 20:12

mine is a fleece, do you think i should go for slightly lighter option?!

jaykay987 · 11/05/2014 20:18

Its such a shame this conversation has happened today.

There are plenty of people posting on fb and here. Some choosing only to use fb and some choosing only to post here. Some members just join and only read.

Each to their own.

I for one post here as often as my phone allows, but - God forbid - I am also a member of the fb group.

Everyone has a right to air their views. I just find it very very odd that the recently reduced conversation rate on this thread is being entirely blamed on the fb spin off.

At last count - Feb - there were over 110 people on this thread. Only 70 are on fb - some of whom post here too.

I have seen (and been part of) many mn threads where far fewer than 40 people have had a continued and fast paced conversation - if thats what they wanted.

Those bitching about the fb group...may as well start bitching at those members who choose not to post regularly on here or on fb.

Oh no you wouldn't do that...as how much someone would like to be involved in a thread is a PERSONAL CHOICE - entirely up to them.

Unfortunately - same applies to however people choose to communicate!

Theres more than enough of us to sustain a quicker conversation - IF that's what people want. Clearly, based on history here recently, many people are posting less as - I don't know - they're busy preparing to have a baby???!!
Life gets busy....but everyone should be welcome on here whatever their 'post-volume'. I for one would be lost without what I have learnt on mn. I would hate not to feel welcome.

jaykay987 · 11/05/2014 20:21

anyway....

mylittl fleece might be super warm in hospital in summer. But guess it'll depend on how hot your hospital is.

I wasn't going to get one. I have a few long cardigans I thought I could wear if needed. Does that sound silly?

noseymcposey · 11/05/2014 20:25

I'm going for the cardigan option too...

ElizaB3 · 11/05/2014 20:34

It goes without saying anyone can be part of any social media.
I'm not on FB so it's always nice when there are posts on here, esp from people who've been involved for a while. It's not a negative that people post elsewhere, but a positive (if you're only on MN) when you do post here! :)

Mylittle Can't speak from experience but at the NHS class they said the wards are hot so good to bring thinner things you can layer, also dark things were better due to pre & post birth leakages!

Can't believe some babes are already here, how exciting! Am on leave now; had planned to do loads but hadn't accounted that by this stage doing one thing a day would be wearing.

Anyone else eating lots (of rubbish?), am getting through packets of biscuits... Please say I'm not the only one

jaykay987 · 11/05/2014 20:38

Eliza I seem to be eating constantly at the moment and am still always hungry! I presume it's a growth spurt!

jaykay987 · 11/05/2014 20:38

a growth spurt for the baby not me (hopefully!)

ElizaB3 · 11/05/2014 20:42

Long cardigan is a good shout, esp as you might not be in hospital for very long.

ElizaB3 · 11/05/2014 20:49

Great Jay I'm glad it's not just me! That'll make me feel better next time I reach for the cookies
Are we putting on calories for baby to use or just adding to the weight we'll have to shift after I wonder?
At the moment just enjoying that I can wear a bodycon dress as I'm meant to have a bulge!

noseymcposey · 11/05/2014 20:57

I'm hoping (banking on) breastfeeding going ok this time as I lost shit loads of weight when feeding. And I'm eating biscuits/cake on the basis that extra weight gain is only temporary so lets hope so.

I remember reading something in the paper about a lady who runs 8 miles a day pushing her buggy... Unfortunately they will very much not be me!

mylittlel · 11/05/2014 21:14

hm, thanks all, i think i will re-think my idea then

misshoohaa · 11/05/2014 22:23

Mylittle - dressing gowns are a great idea but go as light as possible. They have the ward so warm for the babies, it is seriously hot! I should have had a dressing gown, would have saved me some dignity during a nudie walk down the corridor demanding pain relief! Grin

I shall dig out my labour story for you all to read if you like, I wrote it up when DS 1 was about a week and so pleased I did as your memory of the whole thing fades so was really nice to be able to record it.

Nosey, scan Friday - I'm thinking it should even out, and I'm sure I can keep him/her cooking in there!

OP posts:
mylittlel · 11/05/2014 22:31

oh i would love to read it, misshoohaa

Bumblebeesmum · 12/05/2014 04:19

Misshooha you seriously did a naked stroll down the corridor?!?! That is very funny!!! :)

Sareva · 12/05/2014 07:12

Congratulations on those who have given birth. Wonderful news that the babies are ok.

Misshoohaa I also had a scan and the baby is measuring small, 4lb 13 at 35 weeks, so I have another scan in three weeks. They did give me an induction date a week after my due date, I've never gone to 40 weeks in any of my previous pregnancies so I don't know if I will this time (37 + 38 previously). My last DC was small 5lb 4 at 38 weeks. It's worrying but they don't seem overly concerned, they did a very detailed scan and everything else looked ok, apparently that must be just how I grow them.

Wow this has been a busy thread! I have an FB account but hardly ever use it which is why I haven't asked to join the group. I did this first time round (FB) with mums from the April 2007 bus and it is great to see from time to time how are children have grown/are doing.
I believe as we all start finishing work and start getting these babies out this thread will get busier, certainly I hope to speak to you all on the post natal thread at 3am in the morning whilst feeding!!!!!

Wispa I love the dressing gown, looks very light - did you get it recently, it's just that sometimes looking for things in primani is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

misshoohaa · 12/05/2014 07:19

Yup bumble - I did. Mortifying thinking of it now but at the time I could not of cared if the queen was doing a tour of the ward I was so desperate! Worked though, got transferred straight to the birth centre by 3 people with gas and air on tap! I'll post the story on the laptop later, it explains all!

So how are everyone's dignity levels? if you rate them now and post birth they will be vastly different!

Although I'm trying to work up the courage to get a wax, ahem, down there but never had one before! Is it mortifying!? I don't know why I would care as childbirth is surely as undignified as you can get!

I usually do it myself but currently can't see my bits and for all the post birth stuff and stitching (maybe not but I expect so!) it would be nice to be hairless.....

Enlighten me on the process! Wink

misshoohaa · 12/05/2014 07:27

Sareva - hope you're not to worried although I know how you feel of course, I think the waiting for the second scan is hard but makes perfect sense for them to do a sample of the growth. Were your first two induced because of size?

It seems there are two issues with bumps growth, the abdomen is small and the growth velocity since 20 week scan isn't on the curve. So they are keeping an eye on that, placenta flow and fluid were all fine so maybe it's just the baby being on the wee side for no particular reason.

Best of luck! Keep us updated with your scan x

Misshoohaa, I tried an all off wax a few years ago - hurt like a mofo and there was blood and it was just plain weird. Never again. I was there with a hand mirror yesterday and that will have to do.

Last birth it was after that I became a flasher while trying to breastfeed, the cleaner man saw more of my boobs than my husband did. And I still didn't get the hang of it.

I'm not sure I'm bothering too much with the hospital bag just yet. Last time I was planning a hb so didn't bother then just packed day before for induction and as I was there a while dh brought in whatever I needed. Figure this will probably go the same way except I'm going for elcs if she doesn't leave willingly.

Sareva · 12/05/2014 09:28

Notfast that's definitely put me off, I tried Veet bikini cream last time - what a disaster. Had some sort of reaction and it did not look neat down there, luckily that was about 4 weeks before so it cleared up in time!

Misshoohaa - never been previously induced, both spontaneous. Mine was also concerned with growth velocity. Currently on the 11th percentile.

In other news - I bought a Chicco Next 2 Me crib - I accidentally co-slept ( wasn't planned but it saved my sanity) with both my other 2 so I'm hoping this time to do it by safely. Did consider one of the ikea cots hacked, but my DH is rubbish at DIY..... Of any sort

noseymcposey · 12/05/2014 11:36

Sareva we had something similar for DS www.tesco.com/direct/troll-bedside-crib-white/603-8968.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=603-8968&sc_cmp=pcp_GSF_Maternity%20%26%20New%20Baby_603-8968kpid=603-8968&sc_cmp=ppc_g__

The side drops down and it pushes up to the bed... he did however still end up sleeping actually in our bed quite a lot. He seemed to be a very needy baby and we just gradually weaned him into sleeping attached to the bed instead of actually on us. Intending to use it again for DD but hopefully she will sleep in it much more quickly!

Redcliff · 12/05/2014 14:45

I have also just got the chicco next to me bed - well ordered and paid for and just waiting for delivery now . Am starting to feel fed up now at work . Just one week to go and normally really like it but today just felt like telling everyone where to go - most unlike me. Also eating junk - a supplier sent me some chocolate treats and ate about 10 in as many minutes . Just missed the bus (on my way to get DS from school) so have to walk a whole ten minutes !!!! And we have to homework once we get back!!!!!! BAH!

Sareva · 12/05/2014 16:21

Nosey did you find it affected him going into his own cot/bed later on, being so close to you in the beginning?

Redcliffe - when i eventually decided on it (was between that and the Snuzpod) they were sold out everywhere, except Mothercare. Placed my order online only for my order status to change to pre order two says later. I phoned a few random mothercare stores and luckily one had one in stock. Also agree with you about work, still don't finish for another 3 weeks.
This might be tmi, but I've started losing some of my mucous plug. Never seen it in previous pregnancies so i had to google. I saw the midwife who said it's ok and that things are heading in the right direction - eek!
