Hi all,

New thread and probably our last in ante-natal.

Holy crap!

Sareva, I'm so hoping to copy you there. Toddler was a very long induced labour that ended in ventouse and I was all set for a hb. Very disappointed. This time I've been toying with a cs but if I thought I could have a 4 hr start to finish I'd book that.

I've been seeing a chiropractor for the past 5/6 weeks as I was hit with pgp again. Best decision ever!

KatraAllandra · 27/04/2014 11:14

Hello,

I'm 30+6 today due 30th June, so expecting a July delivery - not sure if I should join this group or the July one.

I'm in Edinburgh and have first NHS antenatal class tomorrow. Not sure what to expect from that.

Anyone else in Edinburgh due in late June, or already had DC and want to share their experience of the Simpson or Lothian Birth Centre?

Stacks · 27/04/2014 12:05

Hey all, been busy here with toddler and hip pain. Not much to say on the pregnancy front really, poor little bump gets very little attention already!

I did aqua natal yoga when pg with DS. It was nice to get out and meet other pg mums, but I didn't really do it for long enough to feel it was useful at all. Not doing anything this time as I just don't have the same freedom with my time.

Welcome Katra, I'm due on the 28th and am expecting to go overdue too, the July thread didn't exist when I joined this one, so I've just stuck here. There are a few late June babies though, so you wouldn't be alone at the back of he bus! There's also quite a few Edinburgh/Scottish people on here, so you might want to stick around for us locals (I'm Edinburgh too). Also, there's an active (secret) Facebook group you can join if you're interested. You just need to pm someone your email, unfortunately I can't remember who!

I had DS at the Simpson and had a fairly good experience. Unfortunately I went 16 days overdue and had an induction and emergency section. I'd be happy to pm you details about my care and experience if you like. Overall though, I was happy with everything there.

Edinburgh girls - we really do need to organise a meet. Maybe when people are on maternity leave and we can do a lunch?

MarlenaGru · 27/04/2014 19:28

The party was great thanks, but I was so knackered! I have managed to do very little today except we had a 3D scan to introduce DD to her new sibling. Baby was all perfect but the little bugger is breech just like his or her sister. I am going to be mostly upside down for the next 8 weeks... DD turned at 37 so whilst I am stressed I am not panicking just yet...

Spinning babies site gives loads of ideas but I must admit I find the imagining the baby turning bit and finding an ironing board to lie upside down on the sofa a bit impractical sounding...

SophiePickle · 28/04/2014 13:41

MarlenaGru I've not heard anyone yet say that spinning on their head, swimming with their toes in their ears or any of the other outrageous positions has actually helped to turn the baby! I have heard of midwives turning the baby manually though. Anyone ever had this done? I've not heard of anyone. Hoping mine will turn soon!

KatraAllandra · 28/04/2014 15:38

Thanks Stacks, if the name of the Facebook person comes back to you please let me know.

Had my first NHS Antenatal class today which was fine, though yet another example of the disorganisation of the community midwives. Next Monday is a bank holiday and half the class has been told there won't be a class that day and the other half have been told that there will. So now we all have to wait for a phone call to find out if there is going to be a class or not!

Also, One couple walked out when they found out that breathing techniques weren't going to be covered in the course. A bit more information up front about what to expect from the classes might have been nice / useful.

The other Mum's to be and their partners seemed nice, all first timers like me and a broad age range which helped as I was worried about being the oldest one there. I think I got a lot more out of just chatting to them than I did out of what the midwife had to say.

mylittlel · 28/04/2014 18:04

thats a bit weird to walk off, i would sit till the end as its free)

KatraAllandra · 28/04/2014 19:01

They seemed like a slightly odd couple, both wearing beanie hats that they didn't take off. I think they were only there because the local NCT course was fully booked. They said they were brand new to the area though so I would have stayed just to meet people and learn about the birth location options. Anyway, it was their choice.

Is anyone on here doing hypnobirthing? If so how are you doing it, classes or just a book and/or CD? Any particular classes or books/CV's you'd recommend?

I like the idea of being more relaxed during the birth and that that may reduce pain and shorten the labour.

CleverOl10 · 28/04/2014 21:02

Katra, try messaging me your email address and I'll try to add you to the Facebook group. Think it should work!

MarlenaGru · 28/04/2014 21:11

sophie I believe the ECV (external turning) has very poor results and can cause labour to start and often with baby in a funny position so almm

MarlenaGru · 28/04/2014 21:13

Oops! Almost instant c section.

My DD was breech until 37 weeks and I tried moxibustion and she turned so definitely trying that again. It just involves burning a moxa stick under your toe. Sounds nuts but it worked! A friend had the same. I am not sure if the positions work because to get into them at 30+ weeks pregnant seems virtually impossible!

Notfastmainlyfurious · 28/04/2014 23:14

Katra, I used a hypnobirthing CD in my last pregnancy. Listened to it everyday to start then twice a day from about 37 weeks. Was great to fall asleep to but I didn't feel it did anything for me at the main event. I was induced and had a long slow labour so there wasn't much to be relaxed about. I'll try it again though as I did enjoy the nap, not sure how the toddler will feel about that though.

Jessiebaba · 29/04/2014 08:49

Welcome Katra - we're due date twins! And I'm in Scotland! Grin Like you, I'm expecting to probably end up with a July baby as this is my first so will probably go overdue.

Stacks is right, there are quite a lot of us in or around Edinburgh (I'm in Falkirk but just 25mins on the train to Auld Reekie). Hopefully you've managed to message Clever and she'll add you to the facebook group as most of the chat goes on there - in fact, it's sometimes hard to keep up!

I had my 31 week appointment yesterday and everything is fine. My bump is measuring spot on where it should be which has helped put my mind at ease - people keep commenting on how tiny it is so now at least I know it must just be the way I carry it or something? I'm quite small myself so MW said everything is in proportion. Smile

Jessiebaba · 29/04/2014 08:53

I'm taking the raspberry leaf capsules - no idea if it'll do anything but figured it was worth a try! I've heard some people say it helped while others say it did nothing so who knows... Smile

KatraAllandra · 29/04/2014 09:35

Hello Jessiebaba,

How odd, I'm originally from Falkirk but now live in Edinburgh - this really is a small country! I think early to mid July is a nice time for a baby, I'm hoping for decent weather so we'll be able to get out and about - I'm really bad at being stuck in doors.

Given how busy the antenatal class was on Monday (12/13 MTBs) I'm not surprised there are so many of us in and around Edinburgh. What was slightly worrying was being told that we might get turned away from Edinburgh and get sent to St John's in Livingston, or a couple of times a year down to the Borders as both Edinburgh and St John's are full!

The expectation seemed to be that we'd be able to make our own way to whatever hospital they sent us to. But, we don't have a car so the thought of having to travel to Livingston or the Borders is causing me quite a lot of stress right now - I almost wish the midwife hadn't said anything.

Is anyone else concerned about transport? Has anyone on here had any experience of being turned away from their closest hospital and having to travel at least 30-60 minutes to the next nearest? Could really use some reassurance.

Jessiebaba · 29/04/2014 09:48

Wow! Small world indeed! I'm originally from Stirling but have been in Falkirk for a few years now.

That does sound stressful about the hospital situation in Edinburgh. I know the Edinburgh ladies were chatting a lot about the various hospitals (clutter and liquid are both Edinburgh based) so they might have some advice for you - especially as they're both 2nd or 3rd timers so have had previous experience. My local hospital is the new one in Larbert so it's about 20mins in the car - not sure what we'd do if we didn't have a car though! My NHS antenatal classes were very busy as well - I think June/July is a very popular time to have a baby!

KatraAllandra · 29/04/2014 10:07

Yeah, probably because October / November are such miserable months [GRIN]

Vickyvix2 · 29/04/2014 10:25

Wow new thread, loving the name!!

Huge apologies for being absent for ages, have been face booking mainly but when I decided to come back to MN I had all sorts of issues logging in. Sorted now though.

Slightly freaking out this is all getting so close. 32+1 today.

Welcome katra :)

Can't wait to finish work, 12 days left in the office, can't come round soon enough.

Redcliff · 29/04/2014 17:10

I didn't know that you could get raspberry leaf capsules - must look out for them. The whole Scottish hospital thing sounds very stressful - I guess your not keen on a home birth.

Feeling a bit ropy today so have left work an hour early. Hope I feel better soon - still got 2.5 weeks left but have organised my leaving lunch today which was exciting .

Rosalie - no that does not sound fun, how many weeks are you? Hope it doesn't get any worse.

I've done my first newborn wash today, and going to get my bag packed over the next week, although I have realised I need to do a shop for all the delights of nursing bras, maternity pads, breast pads, etc! Although I might wait for my letter to confirm I'm getting maternity allowance! I left work at about 12 weeks pregnant so have had to apply straight to the government and I think I should be entitled but just want to double check before I start splashing out on all the bits and bobs! Luckily I've got plenty from DS1 but still need a shop to refresh the supplies.

SPD sounds horrible - I would say its at least worth a DRs appointment and hopefully they can give you something for the pain. I still need to buy a bag to take to hospital as I don't have anything suitable . I am planing on getting a nice backpack which can double up as a change bag afterwards. I have so many clothes to wash - my friend gave me a ton of stuff that has been in her attic and has that musty smell.

Mitchell2 · 30/04/2014 08:58

Wow all this talk re how long left at work is making this all a bit real! 33+2 today and in my mind still have aaaaaages to go!

Had first nct class last night which was weird but also reassuring as there are others out there as clueless as me.

Week off this week to day baby stuff but just want to laze in bed, def starting to hit a wall...hope it doesn't get worse.

Mitchell2 · 30/04/2014 21:47

OMG just saw there is a January 2015 thread already! good god, this is all becoming a bit real now isn't it?!

Notfastjustfurious · 30/04/2014 23:28

Rosalie, I suffered horribly with spd last pregnancy to the point of barely being able to cross the room. This time it started earlier - about 15 weeks or so saw physio who just said to come back when I needed crutches. Someone suggested a chiropractor and 6 sessions later I'm pain free. It's not available on nhs so has been costly but it's amazing to walking and driving and carrying on like a normal person.
