Hi all,

New thread and probably our last in ante-natal.

Holy crap!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Mummymidwife87 · 25/06/2014 10:33

Congratulations all new mummies!

I'm 39+6 today... My friend delivered yesterday, she was due four days after me... So now that is all friends with babies. I had a good cry last night, then gave myself a slap.
Feeling a bit sick this morning, get the occasional period pains but that's all.
Have appt at the hospital for heart scan and to start 24hr ECG monitoring today.

Notfastjustfurious · 25/06/2014 11:45

Congratulations Mitchell! Hope it all went ok, my friend had elcs 11 weeks ago and ran the race for life 10k last Sunday so that gives me hope that it's not so bad.

I had yet another false alarm last night - 3 hours of cramps 10-12 minutes apart got a bit painful and then died off. Getting seriously hacked of with this now, just get out already!!!

Mitchell2 · 25/06/2014 14:31

notfast so far so good. I really didn't want an induction so ELCS was the route that made most sense for me. It was such a positive experience (after having to fight to get it!), and am feeling fine. Yes, going to be quite a bit of recovery needed but I knew what I was getting into and myself and my husband are prepared. a race 11 weeks after I'm not sure about - I wouldn't have been able to do that before I got pregnant!!

Mitchell2 · 25/06/2014 14:32

Ps I hope baby gets a wriggle on soon!!

BaldHedgehog · 25/06/2014 16:04

Oh Mummy, that's pants. Have a [hug]. It's so unfair to be left right at the end! Good luck at the hospital!

Panicmechanic20 · 27/06/2014 00:31

Congrats Mitchell so thrilled for you! Are you still in hospital? X

Stacks · 27/06/2014 07:07

Overdue, again :( 40+1 today. Midwife for a sweep this morning, but I have a feeling cervix will be 'not favourable' like last time, and I'll be getting that section on the 7th.

Mummymidwife87 · 27/06/2014 11:00

Fingers crossed stacks!

40+1 today....
I was very teary yesterday after mw appt, for no real reason. I tried to give myself a sweep, can't even tip my cervix, no matter what position I put myself in to. PGP is hideous, and worsening (please be head going down).

Notfastjustfurious · 27/06/2014 15:55

Pre cs appt today so that's it all in motion. Sounds like it's not going to be too bad other than I might starve! Have to be there at 7.45am on the day the Queens Baton Relay is going on so god only knows what time we have to leave home. I've told the baby she has the weekend to save me from this stress and leave willingly.

Mitchell2 · 27/06/2014 19:12

panic no out of hospital, only there two days now at home! Feeling really good and fx the recovery stays that way.

notfast good luck with the CS should baby not come. Hope it's a straight forward positive experience for you.

Stacks · 27/06/2014 20:46

Had my sweep today. Midwife ^reliably* told me I now have a 50/50 chance of going into labour in the next 48hrs. She could barely reach to do the sweep though "just a fingertip" so I'm not expecting much. Another appointment on Wednesday next week, and hopefully another sweep. Maybe a couple of DIY ones too, if I can convince DH. I've been avoiding sex as it's so hard to get comfy, but seriously considering giving that a go too!

Just made myself a big batch of lemon and berry muffins to console myself. I thought I was expecting to go overdue, and I was, but I'm more disappointed than I expected. Guess there was something hopeful in me.

Stacks · 27/06/2014 20:46

Markup fail. Doh.

Stacks · 27/06/2014 20:49

Oops, sorry for multi posting, but I just remembered something else midwife said. An 'old' technique for getting baby out! Put a hand either side of bump and push it side to side. No idea if it works, but it's easy to do! She said just a few minutes at a time, and maybe get DH to do it for me while I relax.

Mummymidwife87 · 27/06/2014 21:33

50/50 chance of labouring within 48hrs of a sweep. More like 30-40% effective IF your body is ready, AND she was able to reach the cervix and perform a proper sweep.
Fingers crossed you labour soon.

Redcliff · 28/06/2014 16:55

Thanks for all your lovely congratulations - only just caught up (my computer time is so limited now!) . Have just joined the post thread and hope those of you still waiting have a quick birth.

MummaSmurf1 · 28/06/2014 21:05

For those who had ELcS instead of induction, how did you get it?? I've never mentioned having a CS, but I don't really want to be induced because I'm worried about how massive my overdue baby must be. I'm only 40+3 but really finding it upsetting.

MrsBon · 28/06/2014 23:24

Hiya ladies, just a quick update to announce the arrival of my second baby, a boy Smile he was born on the 25th after a long labour.. Just getting used to taking care of a baby again! Congratulations to all the others who have had their bundle of joys!
N for the others waiting, catch up on your sleep, you r going to miss on that once the baby is here.

Stacks · 29/06/2014 07:34

Mumma I have to have a section as they won't do an induction after previous section. However, if you talk to your midwife about your concerns, and really push it, you may be able to get one. Or at least some reassurance. My DS was born at 40+16 (!) and was only 8lb 8oz. So not tiny, but certainly not huge. You may have nothing to worry about, are you measuring big?

Congratulations on you wee boy Bon, hope to see you on the grads thread soon!

MummaSmurf1 · 29/06/2014 07:50

Thanks Stacks- at 28 wk scan the percentiles were in 90s for head. Had a few weeks of measuring ahead by two to three weeks with the tape measure but that has evened out. Thing is I know how unreliable those measurements are. Not had a scan since 28 wks. My hubby and his dad were both massive babies so I'm just worried that will have been passed on. I'm getting weird shooting pains and sensations in my feet/legs which makes me think baby is pushing on bits of spine.
I'll talk to my MW on Tuesday, maybe they'll at least do a scan or something? I'd rather not have CS but I'd rather have a planned one than an emergency one if they realise last minute she's going to get stuck!

Notfastjustfurious · 29/06/2014 08:54

Mumma, I had induction with last baby that took 2 attempts to work and ended with ventouse delivery, she was 15 days late and weighed 8lb 14, I had a 2nd degree tear, spd and pnd. After all that there was no way I was going the induction route again. Told the mw that quite early on and had no bother getting elcs booked for after 40 weeks - which is now happening tomorrow!! I was the same in that if I was taking that route I would much rather have elcs than emcs. Although deep down I thought this one would leave of on her own and it wouldn't get to this stage but hey ho.

Good luck with however your baby decides to leave.

Congratulations mrsbon, would love to get my sleep now but the toddler has other ideas, think she can sense the impending arrival and she's not amused!

MummaSmurf1 · 29/06/2014 10:48

Good luck tomorrow!!

Mitchell2 · 30/06/2014 06:13

Mumma, I ended up with an ELCS as I didn't want to be induced. There was no clinical need, so I did have to fight my corner. I was planning on a nice gentle water birth but at 41 weeks options were discussed and I put my foot down as I had already weighed up the risks of both and for me a CS was preferable.

Remember they can't make you have an induction (or any type of intervention) and if you are heading to 42 weeks their main priority will be delivering the baby safely.

Good luck!

BaldHedgehog · 01/07/2014 12:20

Hello folks, made it to 41 weeks, DS2 born this morning, speedy delivery and a bad tear. Congrats to all new mummies and good luck to those still waiting!

MummaSmurf1 · 01/07/2014 15:46

I'm the same Mitchell. Had envisaged water birth in midwife unit and have faith that my body knows what to do. However- I think any artificial starting is going to interfere with my body's instincts and I fear a traumatic interception fueled birth.
I have a consultant appointment on Thursday now to 'discuss' it.

Mummymidwife87 · 01/07/2014 19:04

Sawc consultant today regarding cardiac tests last week... Happy with what she can see but not happy for me to use birth centre, as predicted. Spoke to birth centre manager who is also a good friend, she has set up an appt with a supervisor of midwives for tomorrow morning to make a plan.
Had a sweep this morning. Favourable cervix, 1cm dilated, Central and soft. Still 1.5cm long but I'm impressed, as thought cervix would be closed. Have had a lot of bloody show since and a bit uncomfortable in my pelvic area, but nothing significant.
