I've had that horrible sore throat/cough recently, kally. It really is awful! Definitely rest, paracetamol, whatever drinks you find that eases it - I found hot chocolate was good! Mainline vitamin C too from fruit or fruit drinks. You'll want to help your body fight it off ASAP.

Don't feel guilty about taking time off sick. Having a sore throat/cough/cold isn't pregnancy related, so they can't force you to start maternity leave early because of it or anything. And given how bad you feel, would you want to risk passing it on to anyone else?

I tried to work through it (I used up all my paid sick leave with morning sickness, so I'd have gone down to statutory if I'd taken time off), it dragged on for ages and I ended up with a horrible chesty cough that I'm only just managing to shake three weeks later.

Having a bad cough and being heavily pregnant does not make for a happy pelvic floor, I can tell you that much! It does however feel like slight revenge against the kicks when you cough hard enough to wake LO up. Wink

kally195 · 14/04/2014 13:09

Thanks spirael. Luckily, my employer isn't bothered about me having time off, and have put this down as pregnancy related even though it isn't. Which makes me feeling guilty even more daft!

bushprincess · 14/04/2014 14:07

poor you kally definately don't feel guilty, just get better quickly!

Thinking of you pixie and bornin can't wait to hear the news!!

And so happy for you alyss!! only 3 weeks till Gabriel is home, I bet you can't wait!!!

Chip86 · 14/04/2014 15:08

Tmi alert i got a bit of upset tum doing lots of number 2's is this my body clearing its self out also i keep forgetting to eat im not hugury i am very thirsty though so keep drinking is this a sighn? What are the signs?

hobbjobb · 14/04/2014 15:15

Good luck pixie and bornin I'm looking forward to more baby news!

My friends threw me a baby shower yesterday with lots of cake and tea and silly games and heaps of presents, some of them way fancier than I would have ever bought, including some designer baby clothes and blankets. Feeling very spoilt!

Today I have spent all day so far sunning myself in my garden getting a bit of a tan. Lovely.
My friends all commented on how tanned I look, maternity leave rocks!!!

Time is flying I am 34+1 and creeping towards that drop zone!

Oh an we have decided on names. We will have Ethan Peter for a boy and Isla Jean for a girl. I'm so glad we finally agreed on names we both love!

moobaloo · 14/04/2014 15:31

Lovely news about Gabriel Alyss Smile lovely photos on FB too!

Chip - I believe upset number 2s is a sign of things starting off! I am also not very hungry at all but very thirsty a lot of the time, don't know what this is all about?

Hobjob, lovely names! And your shower sounds great, what nice friends you have Smile

35 weeks today, 2 weeks till I finish work and enter the drop zone! Wahay!

Keep checking in for news from pixie and ohdear ! Xx

Lovely names hobbjobb! I love Isla too but unfortunately it doesn't work in Brazil.

kally feel better soon Brew Definitely get lots of rest so you can shake it before d day!

loopylou do you have another scan this week?

What's the general consensus on cot mattresses. Are sprung supposed to be best?

loopylou52 · 14/04/2014 17:53

Hi samba, yes - on Thursday. When is yours? Been driving myself slightly insane doing lots of research on SGA babies. Not sure if it's wise or not. Been meaning to send you a link to these guidelines I found. Unfortunately I can't/don't know how to link from phone app but url is: www.rcog.org.uk/womens-health/investigation-and-management-small-gestational-age-fetus-green-top-31

I know guidelines will be different in Brazil (and even in the UK, this won't necessarily be what all hospitals do) but I found it quite informative.

Sorry to kally and any others feeling rubbish. I think you're right to give your body time to recover - colds etc are rubbish during pregnancy.

Still thinking of pixie and bornin - hope they're enjoying newborn snuggles by now!

kally195 · 14/04/2014 19:13

Thanks for all the well wishes girls.

Just had a bit of a funny turn - woke up shaking woth cold really badly, but feeling like I was radiating heat at the same time. Made myself take paracetamol, drink a couple of pints of oj and fizzy water and a litre of plain water and calm down with some deep breathing. Spoke to my mum (nurse) and I am probably have a temperature.

Feel much better now (still poorly but not freaking out!). My brother is going to pop in to check on me on his way home from work later.

I never really get ill - this has really knocked me for six. Think DH is right when he says I won't be doing the night shift tomorrow.

Hope bornin and pixie are doing OK.

loopylou52 · 14/04/2014 19:18

Oh dear kally, glad it's passed and you've got people looking out for you. Definitely sounds wise to give work a miss tomorrow. Thanks

kally195 · 14/04/2014 19:22

hobb gorgeous names. We currently have a list a page long - I think we need to narrow it down! Might ask all of your opinions later!

NannyPlumForPM · 14/04/2014 20:22

I love the naming bit Grin

Dd was going to be sophia grace but now she's poppy Delilah!

NannyPlumForPM · 14/04/2014 20:22

I love Isla and Ethan btw. :)

sambababy · 14/04/2014 21:52

loopy our scan is on Wednesday. Not too much longer now. Fx crossed for you! And thanks for the article.

Hope pixie is doing ok.

hobbjobb · 14/04/2014 21:55

There's an announcement by bornin on FB for those who haven't seen it yet :-)

Minions · 14/04/2014 22:12

That's great hobb, pass on our best wishes to bornin - hope they're both doing well

MoominAndMiniMoom · 14/04/2014 22:18

Yay for bornin's birth announcement! Thinking of everyone else who is currently somewhere in labour/hospital/pregnancy/post pregnancy (that's everyone really then...).

Registering Callie's birth tomorrow! I got my birth notes from the midwife too, my official labour time was 2hrs49minutes... with less than 10 minutes of pushing Shock it was great to read the notes because it was all a bit of a blur. I also got my mum and OH to fill me in on all the stupid things I said and did on gas and air because I can't remember a thing - apparently I was insisting that I was in a field with a man playing bagpipes and some goats, salmon fishing with my dad and when my mum suggested that there was a goose nearby (it's a mean trick; I was attacked by a goose when I was 3 and I've been scared of them ever since!), I got angry and threatened to punch it with my drip Hmm

Also OH was talking to one of the midwives about something or other, just the general small talk to pass the time apparently, and I growled at him to shut up... and once the contraction passed, I said in a very small voice, "I'm sorry for being so rude... but you're really getting on my tits" Blush

Being a midwife must be worth it for the funny things people say on entonox if nothing else Grin

LongTailedTit · 14/04/2014 22:48

Grin Moomin at your G&A quotes - but wow you were quick!
(I have v similar goose history, they're bastards aren't they.)

mrsmummytobe · 14/04/2014 23:31

Haha moomin that sounds hilarious. A guy at work whose wife is expecting their 3rd child told me that with their first, apparently she was just swearing at him for about 5 hours solidly!

ohdearitshappeningtome · 14/04/2014 23:40

Sorry. Fb has t stopped since mini me went "live"

Noah arrived at 1015 this morning after a failed epidiral and spinal. Ended up having a general! He's currently on special care as he was grunting at delivery! He's having
Observations now!!

dobedobedo · 15/04/2014 04:39

ohdear Gosh! Sounds like you've had quite a day! Noah is beautiful in his pics! What does it mean that he was grunting? Keep us updated on him, he's lovely! Thanks

I'm awake because baby has been very quiet since yesterday afternoon. Confused I've felt the odd movement but not much. If he doesn't start doing his usual breakdancing routines, I'm going to nip over to the hospital later to get him checked out.

MasterFlea · 15/04/2014 05:51

Congrats ohdear. Noah is a beautiful name. Hope you are both doing well.

That was a quick labour Moomin, especially the pushing phase. I've no bad experiences with geese but am wary of they too. Don't blame you!

ohdearitshappeningtome · 15/04/2014 07:01

Grunting is like when they make a noise at delivery!!

They are taking him out of incubator today and into a cot, he's having blood cultures and infection levels done today too so has to stay on antibiotics!

I didn't know a love existed !!!

SarahJinx · 15/04/2014 07:13

Away, he's lovely ohdear sounds like you had a bit of a time
