For those of us due February 2007 and moving from the first to the second trimester ...

We've made it this far - only another 6 months to go! (Gulp!)

hey im finding it all very exciting but at the same time worried about everything.

MoosMa · 29/09/2006 13:34

If there's anything you're really worried about, say so and I'm sure someone will be able to help out or will have had the same thing! I was very worried about every little thing with DD but am much calmer this time. I'm sure everyone agrees it's a huge thing to do for the first time so you're allowed to be nervous!

CurrantBun · 29/09/2006 14:26

Have just thought that the only downside of having a private scan (with it being more detailed and taking longer) is that we might inadvertently find out the sex. We'd prefer a surprise, but the images at 12 weeks were so clear that they can only be more so at 20 weeks as the baby is so much bigger and more developed.

It will probably be all too obvious if it's a boy ... hope we won't have to find out at this stage.

Just got back - chinese birth chart wrong - it's another GORGEOUS BABY BOY!!!! Definately saw a little tail & 2 roud things! Thought I would be upset that it weas not a girl - was mainly wanting one to buy all the pink clothing. But guess what I don't care!!!!!! Am very excited to have another boy now. . . . Had an amnio at 17.5 weeks due to blood test saying 1 in 89 for downs but was clear so that was a massive relief so maybe knowing all is well makes me not mind. Also get my full amnio result next week so will 100% confirm the gender! However I do have to go back on monday cos the the baby had a wee just before they got to the bladder and would not move around (is lazy baby this time!)had to walk about for 20 mins but still did not move into an optimum position! Not really worried as it is weeing / they said plenty of amniotic fluid which would not be there if there was a problem. It has been problem after problem with this pregnancy - has anyone elase had this?

suzi2 · 29/09/2006 15:14

Back from my 20wk one too... We're having a girl . Secretly quite fancied one so we had one of each but I'm not really that fussed. Family are delighted as thats what they all wanted. Sonographer had a ob on her hands as this little one is a wriggler. She pushed my belly around lots to try and jam her into positions lol! DS was far more placid at his scans. But is anything but relaxed now!

Also saw the dermatologist about my legs. It isn't ulcers as the doctor thought but just aggressive discoid eczema. So some lotions and potions and special bandages to try and heal it a bit. I should have known I was having a girl as this time I've been so nauseous, raging headaches, skin breakouts etc etc!

Regarding th boy bits on scans... with DS it was obvious to us when she had a look down below at the 20wk one. But I don't think she would have looked for so long had she not been showing us his boy bits and we would not have noticed. Today, we both thought we saw boy bits but it was all cord looking like meat & two veg! I'll be going for a private 4D scan in a couple of months so will get our girl double confirmed then lol!

KatPoo · 29/09/2006 16:05

When are you due Suzy2 - mine is 16th Feb! Am now stuck for names as only had a girls name!
My son of 3.5 is called Zak Marshall Wright - Zak was the 1st thing we came up with - both said lets call it Zak if it's a boy - so we did. 'Marshall' was husbands father's middle name & started as a joke - we then decided it was cool as Eminem's name is Marshall! Also loved the name as it sounded very American and we got married in Vegas when I was pregnant. Like Jude / Lucas / Joel / Jorge / Myles / Aaron this time but husband does not like ANY of them. . . . . But comes up with nothing better. Any ideas for something cool and modern with a twist? Thinking of a simple James or maybe Logan for middle name? PLEASE HELP WITH SUGGESTIONS!!!!

Alocin · 29/09/2006 16:27

OOo - no fair! I want to find out the sex, but we have to pay for a private scan. Do you think I can just 'go large' at the 20 week if I phone beforehand? I know the nuchal wotsit would've cost £150, but surely looking for a willy or not would not be so pricey?! Anyone have any experience of this?

becs21 · 29/09/2006 16:36

how come u have to pay to find out the sex of ur baby i am finding this time nxt week cant wait

Alocin · 29/09/2006 16:38

Hospital policy I think! Just tried to ring but think they have knocked off for the day. Am going to ring a BUPA place and ask them how much. I really want a girl, and think it would be good to know now if its a boy so I have time to get over disappointment and refocus on stripey jumpers rather than mauve pinafores!

becs21 · 29/09/2006 16:40

thats true but cant they just tell u at ur normal 20-21 weeks scan??

Alocin · 29/09/2006 16:42

they wont! They told us at the 12 week they wouldnt tell us at the 20 week. Hospital desperately in debt - probably refusing to do it on NHS then charging is a money spinner. Buggers!

becs21 · 29/09/2006 16:44

thats so awfull im really sorry hun i dont understand how these places work and get away with that sort of thing its ur right to know what ur bump is when u have ur 20 weeks scan it should be very clear image maybe u will see anyway if not u may have to resort to the good old wives tales

Tommy · 29/09/2006 16:46

Hi all - haven't been on this thread for a while - not much to moan about now the sickness has gone
I have my scan on Monday but I'm not going to find out the sex - I want the nice surprise in 20 weeks time... (blimey - have just realised that it isn't very far away )

Alocin · 29/09/2006 16:48

Right then - i know I sound stupid but wot should I be looking for?! Would it really be that obvious, or would the cord confuse things?

becs21 · 29/09/2006 16:50

cord mite confuse things but i have a friend that had a baby last year and at her 20 wk scan she saw that it was a girl as she had her legs wide open u may be lucky and the baby will be in a good position i hope so will keep my fingers crossed for u

Alocin · 29/09/2006 18:18

Just found a clinic locally that will do a sexing scan for £95. Am sorely tempted ....

becs21 · 29/09/2006 18:24

thats not to bab i guess the price is alot better then most

babydrivertoo · 29/09/2006 21:21

Just popping in for a mo. We're away most of next week seeing SIL and then staying with mum.

Hope everyone has a good week and good luck with all the various scans and results.

shhhh · 29/09/2006 22:16

Gosh, not been on here for a few weeks and lots has happened..! So we are all around 20 weeks and some beyond (I'm 22 weeks so due 31/01/07 but may be 01/02/07) and are having/had scans. Congrats to those who know the sex..!! Must admit dh & I were shocked when we found out baby was a boy but we are now so excited and have started clothes buying already!!!

CB about your private scan, tbh I wouldn't be worried about finding out the sex yourself as tbh it's quite hard to sex the baby yourself, best to leave it to someone who's qualified.! Looks at those on this thread who thought baby was a xxx and it was the opposite..! With dd and with ds2b both dh & I had no idea what "bits" we were looking at and that was after viewing the 3d/4d dvd off dd millions of times.!!

Well we are booked in for our 3d/4d scans for ds2b and are due to have it in about 6 weeks times..smething else to look forward to...

Hope everyone is feeling ok.I am feeling well, tired but thats expetced running aftre dd who is 16 months. I have sickness still but its on and off which I can cope with. I'm getting bigger and movements from "bump" are getting stronger. DH can now see and feel them which is nice. Makes him able to share the pregnancy with me.

Can't remember who asked about rh neg bloods..I'm reh neg as well and aftre I had dd I was given a shot of anti d to protect any future babies in case blood from dd mixed with mine, apparently I could reject future pregnancies and this could also be the case with "bump". Now our hospital is offering anti d jabs at I think 28 and 32 weeks (nOt 100% sure on dates) as routine. They feel it's best to vaccinate to be prepared in case anything happens and blood is mixed iykwim. I will also been given anti d aftre the birth if ds2b is a different blood group.Confussing stuff!!
BTW speak to your mw as they will be more than willing to advise you further.

Those who are off to the baby show, hope you enjoy it. Wish I could join you but sadly Im too far away .

Alocin · 29/09/2006 22:21

New question - have started preggie yoga class which is lovely, but hitting the choccie a bit hard and want to find a dvd thats a bit energetic to do at home (cancelled gym membership to pay for the yoga classes) Theres some on amazon, but not many with reviews - can anyone recommend a slightly aerobic exercise dvd thats safe for pregnancy?

soundbites · 30/09/2006 15:30

Hello Shhhh - I am at the exact same stage as you - due 01/02/07 - and am also still feeling queasy every so often (so much for it definitely being gone by 20 weeks). It is, as you say, perfectly manageable (haven't actually thrown up since 17 weeks), but I do wish it would go away! My DH is also able to put his hand on the bump and feel movement which he loves! It is good for him to be able to feel more part of things.

Alocin - I was going to ask my yoga teacher which preggy yoga DVDs she recommended so that I could do some of that at home. If that is any use to you (not the energetic stuff you were after, I know) I'll pass on what she says.

Have a good weekend all.

shhhh · 30/09/2006 19:06

hi soundbites..nice to hear someone at the same stage as me..!! Got a bit owrried as if I joined the due in jan thread I would be the last to pop yet this thread I seemed to be the 1st to pop..!!

Do you know baby's sex yet..?

at sb and alocin wanting to do a workout dvd.. .
But suppose I do enough of a work out chasing after dd..!! seriously though a workout dvd ..I think you are bonkers..! . Spend you time with your feet up on the couch..!!! La La La (fingers in the ears) Im not listening to talk about exercise..!!

Tommy · 30/09/2006 19:44

I have a good yoga in pregnancy video which hasn't seen the light of day since I was pg with DS1 5 years ago. I could dig it out and tell you the name if you like. It was very good. I used to do it in the afternoons and DH would come home from work and find me asleep on th living room carpet

Fat chance of me doing it this time with the DSs around - these days I don't nede it to fall asleep!

1stTimeMummy · 01/10/2006 22:21

Hey Becs21

Am also first timmer due Feb 14.

M

soundbites · 02/10/2006 10:03

Tommy - do let me know the name of that yoga video if you have a moment. Thanks.

Shhhh - only think I ought to get exercising because I have heard that being fit for labour helps! Before baby I did a bit of walking on the weekend and that was that. And we didn't find out the gender at the scan. DH was very poorly last week and could barely get out of bed, let alone come with me to the scan . But when I presented him with the photos afterwards he was pretty sure he could see a willie! I'm not so convinced - the pic is the baby lying on its back in profile with a leg right up and although there is a tiny blip at the base of the leg, I don't know if it is the right position to see it really. Oh well, all will be reavealed in about 18 weeks time. By the way, Babydriver is due about the same time as us.

Have a good week all of you - mine hasn't started off too well as my train was 40 mins late ? And now I waste more time catching up on Mumsnet! xxx
