Thanks all for video advice! Having a wobble today - midwife coming round to check for heartbeat as havent felt baby move since friday (thought it was sposed to get stronger from now on?!). Fingers crossed.

Anjo1 · 02/10/2006 11:59

hello ladies!!
Not been on here for ages , how is evryone ? hope all is going well with mums and bumps !
I'm 21 weeks now and definitley have a bump as opposed to looking a bit fat round the middle which I did for a few weeks !
worrying about the birth now as the realisation that I'm just past 1/2 way and it's not as distant as I thought it was hits home.
I'm not sure if I should be starting Antenatal classes yet , is it too early ? I still have'nt bought anything at all for the baby because I feel like it's just too early

MoosMa · 02/10/2006 12:06

Hello all, had the 20 week scan this morning and we're pretty certain it's a girl! So my dream I had the other night and the Chinese birth chart and my gut instinct all seem to be right. I hope the rest of my dream was right too, it was a very easy birth (although I did forget to take any big knickers in to hospital with me!).

Now I know what it's going to be I want to get on with doing the bedroom up, but am waiting for new carpet and dh to make a bookshelf for downstairs first....

CurrantBun · 02/10/2006 12:27

Hi ladies, hope you all had good weekends.

Our scan is booked for next Tuesday - am getting excited now with so many of you having had them already! I'm 19 weeks today and feeling great. Bump is becoming a little bit more obvious although people who don't know me would be unlikely to realise I'm pregnant. Am still wearing my normal size 6 jeans (they are low-waisted though!) and haven't bought any maternity clothes yet. Holding off for as long as possible as I know I'll be sick of the sight of them by the end of my pregnancy. Will buy some tops soon though as most of mine are starting to get a bit short - and I don't really want to stretch them to the point where I can't wear them afterwards.

I'm still managing my 5 runs per week, of around 5-6 miles each. I finally had to accept the fact that I need to slow down though - reduced my pace by about 30 seconds per mile last week and it now feels much more comfortable. I am finishing a run feeling refreshed and rejuvenated rather than trashed! I am waiting for the comments to start from the general public when I'm out running, about how I shouldn't be exercising "in my condition" - no-one has said anything yet, probably because you still can't really tell I'm pregnant, especially in a loose running top and shorts.

MoosMa,great news!!, I wonder if i should follow my gut instict tehn ,Almost from day one I've felt the baby is a boy but I've been trying to refer to the Bump as 'she' recently just so I can get the idea of it being possibly a girl into my head ! Chinese Birth Chart ?? enlighten me .
We're trying to find a house to buy and I'm supposed to be making our flat presentable enough to sell , failing which we'll have to convert the 'study' into baby's room !

Ruth2808 · 02/10/2006 15:06

Hi I'm new to this today but feeling quite lonely I'm the only pregnant person I know at the mo 22wks tomorrow Afetr having 2 boys have recently been told this one "probably" a girl!! Very excited finally able to look at the pink section of the shops!! I have had bit of a nightmare with hospital stays because baby was stopping me from going to the toilet not pleasant at all. But got to the good bit now feeling good and eating for Britain. Hope to hear from someone.

CurrantBun · 02/10/2006 15:47

I have to say I have no feelings either way as to whether I'm having a boy or a girl. Lots of my friends felt very strongly that they knew what they were having, and (so far) they have all turned out to be right! But I honestly don't know - and don't really mind. It's my first so I'm just excited to be having one at all!

Ruth, I don't know anyone who's pregnant either - but I know so many people 'virtually' via this and other websites that I don't actually feel that isolated. You'll get loads of support and good advice on here and it really does help.

Anjo, Google for it and you'll get hundreds and hundreds of results, or this is an easy one to use, mistupid.com/zodiac/cbirthchart.htm

Loads of people swear by it, but obviously it's not 100%!

Ruth2808 · 02/10/2006 16:11

I did the old wives tale thing of your wedding ring on a piece of string was very sceptical but to my suprise it did seem to think it was a girl which now has been proved right. But I wouldn't stake any money on it.

Tommy · 02/10/2006 16:25

Hi everyone - just back from my scan where everything was fine

The head is quite big (surprise surprise - DS1's head is so enormous that he has to wear adult sixe hats - at 4 ) and genderally a little biger for dates all round but I wase xpecting that.

The only thing she did say was that the placenta is a bit low so they are scanning me again at 32 weeks (which is Christmas Day so will be week after!). If it is covering the OS (don't know what that means but gather is is the way out!) then it is a section for me which rather puts pay to my homebirth plans but we'll find it all out later.

Tommy · 02/10/2006 16:26

sorry about all the typos there

Ruth2808 · 02/10/2006 16:30

I had that with DS1 but by the time the 32 week scan happened the placenta had moved round out of the way of the escape route so I had a normal (if you can call 10lbs normal) delivery.

becs21 · 02/10/2006 17:43

hey first time mum good to hear from u how r u finging things? i am also a first time mum to be been to midwife today who said that my placneta is right at the front which is why i cant feel baby moving that well got my 21 weeks sacn on friday cant wait to find out the sex.

Tommy · 02/10/2006 19:43

thanks Ruth - that's good to know.

(although all afternoon I have been thinking about how convenient it would be know exactly when the baby was going to be born so I organise the DSs )

becs21 · 02/10/2006 19:46

hey tommy how far gone r u?

Tommy · 02/10/2006 19:57

20 weeks

suzi2 · 02/10/2006 20:58

Tommy - I know 2 women whos placentas have shuffled up and allowed them homebirths so you may still have a good chance. Are you actively planning your homebirth? I feel like I should be doing something to plan for mine but haven't a clue what! My little one also has a larger head than anything else and my DS was the same. Hence why getting him to crown proved a bit of a problem. I'm hoping this one at least engages (DS didn't) and gets it's head more 'rocket' shaped lol!

Ruth2808 · 02/10/2006 21:19

I had the same problem with ds2 he refused to engage I was laboring for ages they put me on cintosin and I was prepped for a cs and then he decided to make an appearance.

DontCallMeYummy · 02/10/2006 21:53

Anyone else going to the Baby Show this month? My Mum's coming down specially and has booked tickets for the Saturday, have a feeling we won't be leaving til she has a Bugaboo under one arm and a Tripp-Trapp highchair under the other (I can't carry anything in my condition).

Ruth2808 · 02/10/2006 21:56

I'm planning to go with my dh hoping to find a good pushchair at a decent price so the bugaboo might be out for me.

Tommy · 02/10/2006 22:09

DS2 was a really easy birth - 2 hours start to finish and only with TENS so I am hoping that this one will want to be like his/her big brother. Plus, my MW is really keen on homebirths.
I'm not really "planning" it as such as I'm hoping it will all be very quick and will just happen

suzi2 · 02/10/2006 22:25

That's good to know Tommy... I just feel like I should be writing lists or something. Or making a nursery or buying something... but the moment hasn't taken me yet!

Ruth - DS did it himself at some point when I was in labour but I've no idea when!

Really wish the Glasgow babyshow was on soon (it's april) as, for the first time, I have an urge to go and investigate slings, wraps and carriers. It's so tricky to see them all in use anywhere else. I've ordered an Ellaroo lightly padded ring sling today for DS/baby 2 as it was a bargain price but there's so much out there I want to try!

1stTimeMummy · 02/10/2006 22:34

Hey Becs21

All fine with me. 21 weeks on Wednesday and have my scan on Thursday. I'm the opposite to you, I definately don't want to find out the sex and am worried I'll see by accident. Am enjoying the anticipation and looking forward to the surprise. Have always been keen on a girl (family of 3 girls) so working hard to get used to the idea of a boy!! and think of reasons why boys are good. Think I've really just felt movement properly tonight. For hours, I just felt these tiny little darts inside me, very small and quite sharp - well I'm assuming its the baby moving.

How is all with you.

M

Ruth2808 · 03/10/2006 11:40

I am 22 weeks today I have been feeling braxton hicks already starting to get a bit concerned baby might want an early out. Which will make a change cos my nprevious 2 were over a week late. Should they be happening this early and this noticeable

CurrantBun · 03/10/2006 12:13

Hi all.

IstTimeMummy, I don't want to find out the sex either - figure if I'm going to go through all that pain I may as well have a nice surprise to look forward to at the end of it! Scan is next Tuesday at the Fetal Medicine Centre - their scanning equipment is particularly good so hoping we don't see something we don't want to!

DCMY and Ruth - DH and I are going to the Baby Show at Earl's Court on the Saturday. We mainly want to use the show to play with and test lots of prams/travel systems as we've found most stores don't stock much of a range, so will be good to have all the manufacturers under one roof with people who are able to demonstrate the products properly. Planning to get there early as suspect that Saturday will be the busiest day.

Tommy, don't worry re. the placenta. 20 weeks is still very early and it's very likely to move out of the way in plenty of time for the baby to be born. But I can see the advantage of a planned C-section ...

I'm also thinking about a home birth. My midwife seemed quite keen at my booking-in appointment so will discuss it more with her when I see her next week. The only thing that puts me off is the potential mess - we had pale beige carpet fitted right through our house in March ...
