Hi all, I have my BFP and due 30th October. It's my third baby and was 2 weeks late with the last two so bound to be November.

Anybody else for November yet? I know it's very very early :)

Nessalina I just 'treated' myself too and used my last cb digi. Said 2-3 weeks!! Smile

Tigsy · 06/03/2014 07:34

Forgot to say hello and welcome ladydolly

Nessalina · 06/03/2014 07:41

Hurrah! Great news Tigs. I woke up at 5:30 bursting for a wee and totally forgot I was gonna do the CB! Missed FMU now, so will try tomorrow! Smile

WinterLover · 06/03/2014 08:20

Thanks. He's done something to the ligament causing his shoulder bones to part. He's in agony. God knows how hes done it!

Tigsy · 06/03/2014 08:52

Anyone with DC already, just trying to do a bit of budgeting. How much do you think I need to budget for a first baby? Don't have anyone close with babies so will have to buy everything new. Just after a ball-park figure really as I don't have a clue....

Giraffeski · 06/03/2014 09:25

Tigsy, it's one of those 'how long is a piece of string' ones really, it depends how much you want to spend! Eg, You can get a cot from IKEA for £30 or an all singing all dancing one for £££.Babies don't actually NEED loads of stuff. I suppose as a minimum you need either a pram/pushchair or a sling, a car seat, a cot or Moses basket, nappies and a few clothes.
Don't buy loads of clothes though as everyone and his dog will buy you clothes as presents.
And if you're doing cloth nappies I wouldn't buy a full birth to potty set of one brand as some nappies suit different baby bottom shapes!

ladydolly · 06/03/2014 09:54

Nessa You already have your scan date? I got my midwife appt for in 3 weeks when I'll be around 7/8 weeks. Do they book your scan date after that?

Insomnia continues, fed it with a cheese sandwich at 3am, so I'll be both fat and tired if this continues...

Although and midnight snack is far preferable to your night winter, hope you get some rest today!

Greenstone · 06/03/2014 11:29

Hi everyone, welcome ladydolly.

Winter, your poor DP - what a night for you all! And how's your DS doing now?
(Yes I am also weirdly jealous of the morning sickness)

Tigsy I can't add much to Giraffski's answer, I think she's covered the list of basics that you need! Couldn't even begin to come up with a ballpark figure because for everyone it's different. I would say if anyone offers you anything to bite their hand off. It's better to have a brand new mattress for Moses basket/carrycot and then later cot but pretty much everything else can be second hand. (I think you're supposed to get carseats brand new too, although we got a brilliant hardly used one second hand.) Baby furniture is EXPENSIVE! We got a cheapo 3 piece set from Argos (cot, chest of drawers, wardrobe) and tbh it's shite and shoddy. The cot is fine but the other two pieces are really poor quality. So definitely see if your parents or other older relatives might happen to want to do a clear out...car boot sales and that kind of thing can be good too.

I do heartily recommend a sling though -- a wrap one is best.

Have some niggling lower back pain today. I had horrible sciatica in my 2nd/3rd trimester last time. Hope it's not going to make a comeback.

Are any of you dtd at the moment or is that a tmi type thing to ask?!

RandomInternetStranger · 06/03/2014 12:18

My essential list is travel system, wrap, breast pump, milk storage bags, bottle, muslins, washable wipes, clothes, nappies, baby bath, and that's about it! I cosleep, breastfeed, babywear, and last time I cloth nappied, but undecided whether I'll cloth or dispose this time, so initial costs for me are low. I use the carry cot instead of a moses basket for the odd time they use it and will get a cot later on. I'm getting everything second hand except a mattress and car seat. Babies can be as cheap or expensive as you make them and a lot of it is just for posing. Yes I have a Bugaboo Cameleon, but it's 3rd hand and was £200 for the entire travel system including car seat but I'll probably replace that with a new one. No one needs a £1200 Bugaboo, you can get travel systems for new for £300 which are perfectly fine, but motherhood, you'll discover, can be a lot about who has what changing bag and oh you have a basic Superdrug own brand bottle instead of a Dr Brown's BPA free anti colic natural feel teat one?? If you don't fall for all that nonsense you can keep the cost right down.

Tigsy · 06/03/2014 12:20

Greenstone we did it the day I got my BFP. Haven't done it since then as haven't had much of a chance with work etc or me feeling tired, but I expect we will carry on, pretty much as normal.

Tigsy · 06/03/2014 12:22

Random I can just imagine DHs face if I suggested spending 1200 on a travel system! Smile

Greenstone · 06/03/2014 12:47

Yes it's funny, the cost thing can spiral for a lot of people, probably similar to weddings -- and boy does the babyware industry know it so you have to keep your wits about you :)

We were really lucky wrt the travel system, managed to get a relative's hefty trade discount and we got the Upababy Vista. It's kind of a monster in some ways but it's also very good for where we live (semi-rural) and the carrycot is suitable for all-night sleeping not that dd had any interest in sleeping in it so no need for a separate Moses basket.

we've been quiet on the dtd front here, I am weirdly paranoid this time around. Will get over it soon I expect.

Tigsy · 06/03/2014 12:51

Greenstone I'm the same. I would prefer not to dtd if I'm honest, but would feel bad for DH.

Greenstone · 06/03/2014 12:58

I don't think this counts for anything at this early stage, but I've heard anecdotal evidence that suggests if you're well up for it you're carrying a boy, if the opposite, a girl!

ladydolly · 06/03/2014 13:20

I'm up for dtd physically (if you know what I mean) but I'm too scared after spotting at the weekend. I always swore I'd not be too 'precious' when I got pg but here I am thinking it's going to shake things loose!

To be honestly until I get more sleep I'm not how worth it it would be!

First chat with DP about things we need to buy last night and he said he didn't want all his friends hand me downs - i feel the exact opposite way, I want as much as I can lent/donated/2nd hand both for costs and just because it's a waste. I'm sure he won't actually know what needs to be bought so I'll get my way anyway :)

Nessalina · 06/03/2014 13:25

Lady - I've only got my scan date early because I'm still under consultant care from my recent pregnancy which had issues. Last time I got it about 10days before I think.
I am not allowing myself to think of any purchases til post-scan! I am an absolute bugger when it comes to spending so I'll need to seriously reign myself in Blush
We haven't DTD since BFP. We're don't do it loads at the best of times, and with pregnancy we've been paranoid. I did have a v.horny dream last night about DH though, so feeling like maybe I should just jump him Grin

RandomInternetStranger · 06/03/2014 13:40

Well as it's just me I have no choice but to not be dtd, though I've been as active going solo as I usually am if you know what I mean. Wink With DD I was well up for it all the time but XH wasn't interested till 6 days after she was born and suddenly he can't understand why on earth I wouldn't be! Hmm But even with DD I was flying solo in that department. Word of warning, orgasms at this stage can frequently send you into painful cramps which can be scary but are perfectly normal and later on can make your tummy feel rock hard. However I heard orgasms feel like a massage and hugs to the baby so it's fine to crack on. Wink

ladydolly · 06/03/2014 13:44

Nessa Oh I see, sorry, a little insensitive of me, I just have no idea what to expect. Hope it all goes well for you!

I bought some maternity jeans today, they were on sale and I snuck them in with some boots I ordered, mustn't let DP know I've started shopping already!

RandomInternetStranger · 06/03/2014 13:55

I've bough some bigger normal jeans. Grin I've not got into the maternity clothes thing at all. I stayed in normal but bigger clothes last time, I just found maternity stuff so uncomfortable! I couldn't stand the over the bump stuff and the under bump stuff never seemed to sit right anywhere - bump, bum, hips, crotch... really just couldn't get comfy in them. May try them again later when I get a bump but for now I've just got normal but bigger jeans.

Tigsy · 06/03/2014 14:03

Just booked an early scan for when I'll be 7 weeks (all being well). It's booked for the day before mother's day, so it fits in well, as plan was that (again all being well!) I'd tell my parents on mother's day.

Giraffeski · 06/03/2014 15:23

I've made a midwife appointment! 27th March,

Giraffeski · 06/03/2014 15:38

I keep POAS though, as I am so asymptomatic compared to my other two pgs that I feel paranoid.
There's still time for it to kick in though.

Hopeful83 · 06/03/2014 16:03

Greenstone I am so glad you asked that. We dtd once at the weekend and it resulted in the most agonising cramps that I was doubled over practically in tears sure it was a mc. Random I am so glad that you said that that can happen. We are both really put off now! Is that just an early thing, does it go away at some point?

I'm also not buying anything until after the scan (that's my plan anyway!)

starfish99 · 06/03/2014 18:27

we haven't dtd since bfp. I'm too terrified of something going wrong although I know it would be fine.

had my blood results back today and all fine, and got an early scan booked in for 24th March when i think I'll be about 7 weeks. Smile exciting!

LittleMissSunshine33 · 06/03/2014 19:09

We haven't DTD either but hope we will as was doing it lots when TTC! I think my OH is more worried about it than I am. Although (tmi) he counted go near my nipples as they a very sore!!

I keep buying silly things like baby grooming kit which was on offer, mittens ... Because they were there! Don't want to get too much but just make a little bottom draw Smile
