Hi all, I have my BFP and due 30th October. It's my third baby and was 2 weeks late with the last two so bound to be November.

Anybody else for November yet? I know it's very very early :)

*couldn't go near them not count them

Wilhelminanevillesdottir · 06/03/2014 19:39

We have DTD once but to be honest I'm feeling quite grumpy and have no interest atm.

IKEA is your friend Tigsy. For cheap furniture and definitely for the little white high chair. Totally wipe clean, so much better than all the fancy ones. Test some buggies out before you get one because if you get one which is hard to collapse it will piss you off forever more. I agree about not buying clothes as everyone will buy them for you. Get some newborn size as no one gives you those and then you'll probably start running out about 9-12m. Don't buy scratch mittens - most useless things ever. But do get sock-ons! Also check freecycle or any local equivalent. People give loads of stuff away.

HRMumness · 06/03/2014 20:56

Second ikea for furniture and linens / highchair.
Do think its worth getting a decent pram. I skimped on that first time round only for it to break twice, luckily I got my money back and then we splurged on a bugaboo bee which we love.
If you live in London or a big city, a good sling helps as well. Although I found wrap slings only good for the first few months, then you need something a bit more structured like an Ergo.
wilhelmina - excellent name? It's actually DD1s name, she was named after my Grandmother. I've probably outed myself as it is so rare.
I was up at 5:30am with a puking DD this morning and barely had a chance to sit down until 7pm when I promptly fell asleep. I've also switched to wearing maternity jeans as I already have a noticeable bump at four weeks. I am bricking that it is twins as my mother / grandmother on paternal side are both twins.

lauraparsons233 · 06/03/2014 21:28

3 positive tests today so due date 14th November... Very excited!

Wilhelminanevillesdottir · 06/03/2014 21:50

Ooh Mumness you sound like a prime candidate for twins! Wouldn't it be a teensy bit exciting? suggesting from the position of someone with no twins on either side ever That's so cute that it's your DD's name. Does she have a nickname? I just stole it from a packet of mints I was eating when I registered Grin. I like less popular names like that but my other half is very traditional boring in his tastes so I have to compromise.

Welcome Laura

Tigsy · 06/03/2014 22:01

Congratulations and welcome Laura

Giraffeski · 06/03/2014 22:17

Welcome Laura.
I forgot to mention as well that the ikea muslins are the best ever, wash and dry really well, bigger than the supermarket ones and come in a two pack, one white and one white with really cute green designs

Is it just me who thinks muslins are really expensive for what they are? I mean don't get me wrong they are worth every penny and nearly 8 years on I've still got a couple of DD's around but I've not seen anywhere that has them for less than £1 each. Considering you can get onsies and bodysuits and washable wipes for that or less it's a bit of a con. I saw some rainbow ones which were lovely but something ridiculous like £25 for 8 or something. It's for wiping sick, catching food spills & hiding boobs in public, how can they cost that much??

Giraffeski · 06/03/2014 23:45

The ikea ones are £3 for two.
They are worth every penny IMO. Speaking as someone who had a milk allergic reflux baby...

starfish99 · 06/03/2014 23:52

congratulations Laura!

Ness - this will be my first (touch wood) but second pregnancy.

AveryJessup · 07/03/2014 02:45

Hi all, mind if I jump on board? I got two good pink lines on my Clearblue test a couple of days ago and am guessing I'm due around November 8th, fingers crossed that all goes well!

DH is traveling on business at the moment and we live abroad so no immediate family to share with right now - apart from DS who is only 2. I jumped around with my positive test stick in my hand and gave him a big hug and said I was so happy and he got happy too for about a minute and then got weirded out by me jumping around and knocked the test stick out of my hand saying 'don't like it! Don't like this!'. Maybe that's the earliest recorded example of sibling rivalry in history...

Anyway congrats to all - let's hope we all make it through the next 40 weeks healthy and with good outcomes all round!

Wilhelminanevillesdottir · 07/03/2014 05:41

Muslims are expensive random although not too bad in supermarkets. I once bought mother care ones without checking the price and nearly choked at the till.

Been there with the allergy and reflux Girraffe. Hope we won't have so much projectile vom this time round.

Hi Avery. Are you waiting for your husband to get back before telling him? That's so funny your son said that, am sure he'll get used to the idea.

People what's with the insomnia? Anyone else? I'm going to be wrecked today.

Nessalina · 07/03/2014 06:28

Not so much insomnia, I'm sleeping like a log, but then just waking up a good hour before I need to Hmm
Hurrah for Friday! I am gonna sleep most of the weekend! Grin
starfish - same here. I expected to be a nervous wreck this time round, but I'm feeling a lot calmer than I thought I would... For now!!
Oooh my DH was drinking beer last night and I so wanted one! I had a slurp Grin How's everyone else coping with booze deprivation? Are you allowing yourself the odd treat?

Nessalina · 07/03/2014 06:29

Welcome Avery! That is so cute Grin I'm sure he'll get used to the idea!

starfish99 · 07/03/2014 07:47

Ness - I'm the same. Was so nervous with the last pregnancy and much calmer this time round. Hopefully it's a good sign! We're trying not to get too excited just yet just in case but it's so hard not to.

As for the alcohol ban... My parents came to stay last night, They live abroad so don't get to see them much, plus we had loads to celebrate (just exchanged on a house, got a promotion, asked to be god parents and got a bfp all in one week!!) so a bottle of champagne was cracked open. I had a few sips, was pretty green eyed as they wolfed the bottle down followed by a few bottles of red! We told them the bfp news and they were so happy for us, they know about my previous miscarriage so we've told them we're trying to be cautious until we get to the 12 week scan but they are so excited already!!

ladydolly · 07/03/2014 08:10

Hi Laura, Hi Avery!

This is my first, I had a chemical pregnancy in December so we're still nervous as it's early days.

Boozing, totally not interested so not feeling deprived so far, I'm sure I'll have the odd treat further down the line though!

Finally slept, DP went into the spare room for the night and I had a blissful night finally - I can't believe we're in separate rooms already! Hopefully that's the end of it and I can have him back in the bed :)

Does anyone else go to the gym? I got around 5 times a week and I used to go before breakfast but it makes em a bit shaky now to I have a slice of toast before hand. I've stopped the rowing and most weights as they're quite strenuous but when I'm swimming I'm getting a stitch like pain even though I'm not out of breath and it lasts for about half an hour afterwards, slowing down seems to help, but I get frustrated I'm not getting a proper workout.

Greenstone · 07/03/2014 10:18

Welcome everyone new and congratulations! Avery your story about DS was hilarious, really made me laugh. I can imagine my 2 year old doing the same thing, they are so egocentric at 2.

I'm doing OK re. booze because I'm still having small amounts of daily caffeine, in my head that cancels out the possibility of small amounts of regular booze. I'd normally have a glass with dinner up to 5 times a week though! I'm not a big drinker and never binge but I am a regular drinker with food. So I miss it in theory but in practice it's fine really. On the rare occasion we go out to a nice restaurant I think I will do as I did last time: order a glass of red and drink some of it throughout a big meal I usually found I wasn't bothered to finish the glass at all. It was more of a psychological thing. I just love a small drop of wine with nice food.

MIL bought DH a cheese and port hamper for his birthday so there have been loads of stinky cheeses in the house which I have regretfully stayed away from. And guess what? After a cheese binge the night before DH felt awful yesterday and threw up a few times. So I'm glad I stayed away. Could be a bug or just too much cheese, but still!

ladydolly I didn't start swimming seriously with my last pregnancy until the start of the third trimester, but I really do remember that stitch you're talking about. Funny you're getting it so early. Do listen to your body though and slow down. I know it's frustrating but I think there's a danger you can get quite dizzy if you do too much. You'll probably feel lots better and stronger in the second trimester.

Wilhelminanevillesdottir · 07/03/2014 11:03

Sorry for autocorrect error in last post - obv muslins not Muslims.

That's actually the same with me Ness except it's two hours too early. But quite restless throughout the night too. Booze doesn't bother me unless I'm out with friends for a meal or something, and then I'll want to have one. I found last time I started wanting some towards the end of the pregnancy but managed not to.

I was going to the gym before my first pregnancy lady but stopped pretty quickly due to similar type pains and also just the general feeling that my pelvic floor wouldn't hold up! That was probably just psychological. Had a really easy pregnancy though because I had been in good shape. Can't say the same this time!

RandomInternetStranger · 07/03/2014 11:13

I don't really drink anyway since having DD. Just can't handle it anymore and just 3 drinks will have me throwing up for 2 days so that's been easy. I do like the odd cold lager and lime in a beer garden in the summer by a river so that may be a struggle! I don't like cheese, except cheddar, I don't like pate, can't stand coffee and I never do any exercise so I'm not missing anything there. However I am addicted to coca cola and can drink 2L a day easily, I love junk food and was a heavy 40 a day smoker when DD is not around and all that has had to go. Apart from the caffeine it's been fine but I could kill for a can of coke! Grin

The nosebleeds have started, I had this with DD - constant sniffly stuffy nose and lots of nose bleeds and got that again. Boobs still sensitive. Still frantically cleaning and organising everything. Other than that there's not a lot to report here. Got my booking in appt with the midwife Tuesday so looking forward to that. If I don't come back on before tonight then have a good weekend everyone! Smile

RandomInternetStranger · 07/03/2014 12:29

Oh! Rare steak. That's one I miss!

Greenstone · 07/03/2014 13:08

Yes it's no fun if it's not at least a little bit bloody!

Yikes, sorry about the nosebleeds Random. I'm feeling very unsymptom-y actually, although I'd quite like to nod off at my desk. I've been sleeping well at night, dead to the world. Most nights I need to get up to pee but that hasn't been happening

I'm still so impressed you were able to give up a 40 a day habit Random! Truly that is impressive stuff.

Longing to make my first appointment but I'll hold off for another week or so.

Hope you all have a nice weekend!

booksshoescats · 07/03/2014 13:14

Ugh, had horrible paranoid evening yesterday - felt really unsettled in myself, and crampy - very similar to the way I felt the day before I mc'd last time. BUT, I feel much better today and quite normal again. Hoping it was just a hormone surge.

Just unearthed a ton of muslins that we kept from last time. Don't remember them being that expensive, but Ness, like you I'm a bit of a spender, so maybe I was just caught up buying lots of cute things and didn't notice.

Tigsy, I'd definitely second the Ikea high chair, though, they are about £15 and so much better than most of the others and they really keep the baby in well, particularly when they are little. A lot of the other chairs seem really big - suitable for toddlers but not babies, and the Ikea one worked for DD till she was about 2.5 and ready for a booster seat. The other thing we found indispensable was a rocky chair. Doesn't have to have bells and whistles, but you do need somewhere to put them when they are not asleep and you're not feeding. She loved her playmat, but sometimes they just like to be propped up a bit so they can hang out and watch you. This is the closest thing I can find - same brand different (more elegant) colour! DH and I always say it was the must-have for us.

RandomInternetStranger · 07/03/2014 14:29

Definitely a bouncy chair! I'd never have had a shower or got dinner on without one! DD had a musical, vibrating, flashy light one which gave me just long enough to have a shower or let her watch baby Mozart before she got bored and I felt guilty. I found the bumbo a waste - brilliant for about 2 weeks then useless. The big walker things were again brilliant for a couple of weeks but that was it, door bouncer the same. The push along and ride on things were better.

By the way anyone with a pierced belly button you need to switch to a plastic one when you start growing. There's loads on Amazon.Smile
