dreamydowler · 26/08/2006 12:34

welcome padmep of course its not too late and I hope you join our postnatal thread too Im on my seventh child but there are lots of 1st timers 2nd timers etc In fact the two girls waiting to give birth Olivo and Katylou are both first timers and Sarahlou who is now on the postnatal thread has very recently had a home water birth. We are a very friendly bunch and anything you want to chat about is fine You are lucky having a home birth mine was such a lovely experience My sister has just had a home birth too. Hope you feel you can come and chat on here often

PadmeP · 26/08/2006 12:55

Thanks Melsy & Dreamy Dowler, at least there are still a few people about - I'm worried that if things go on as they are, I may be moving over to the September board! Really REALLY don't want to be induced if I can help it but as time goes on, I'm getting more and more eager to meet my bubber and make sure he's healthy.

Dreamy Dowler, really pleased to hear you had a good experience with a home birth. I think people think I'm a little odd for wanting one, especially as this is my first. Midwives seem to think that wanting a homebirth equates, wanting no pain relief which is not the case for me - just don't want to be in hospital! They told me they only bring 1/2 hrs supply of gas and air - did you have the same with your homebirth? I'm worried I'm going to need tonnes of the stuff. Hopefully the TENS early on and then the water and hypnobirthing techniques will help but I've had gas and air before and loved it!

dreamydowler · 26/08/2006 13:12

you normally have your entinox two cannisters of it delivered a good couple of weeks before the birth I did and my sister although I didnt use mine also the midwife brings a bottle and when the second midwife arrives she brings another

melsy · 26/08/2006 13:20

Have u done the whole course of hypnobirthing Padmep ? I only had 2 one to one sessions and it helped immensly to get through ealry long long labour , but didnt stop the pain at end , I think I may have coped better at later stage if I dont the whole intense 5wk course.

PadmeP · 26/08/2006 13:31

No cannisters being brought before hand unfortunately Have heard that the second midwive will bring another one though but it may be too late by then. Everytime I have an antenatel check up they tell me that if the on-call midwife has been called to another emergency or if any of the team are off sick or on leave, then I may not be able to have a homebirth at all (happens to 1 in 3 women a month in this area!) so I think I'll just be greatful if I get ONE midwife, let alone two!
Have only got the CD Melsy, as the course was just way too expensive (would have had to have had 1 to 1 sessions), was a long way to drive and I just couldn't make my mind up soon enough (was debateing getting a private midwife because of the problems mentioned above and it would have been and either/or situation - in the end I ended up with neither!) I've only had the CD for the last month and have to admit I haven't been that diligent at listening to it.

melsy · 26/08/2006 13:36

The cd's alone can be very powerful. I have a recovery one and boy it sends me into the deepest trance. Its worth doing every night in a long soak in the bath, preferably sitting up, leaning against bath room wall!!

dreamydowler · 26/08/2006 13:37

thats a shame but you keep focusing on being positive the warm water will help immensly Im sure my sister had a shot of pethidine given at home too

dreamydowler · 26/08/2006 13:39

got machine working by the way again melsy but for how long I dont know just need to get rid of the smell all over the house

PadmeP · 26/08/2006 13:52

Yes, Dreamy Dowler, have a shot of pethadine linned up for emergency although one MW told me that if I was thinking I was going to need it, then I should think about having the birth in hospital instead! Also, not allowed in the pool until 3 hours after the injection!

Sorry to read about your family's illness - not what you need right now at all so hope it all clears up soon. When is your due date?

Yes CD is definately effective, usually sends me to sleep and even sent dh to sleep when he was suppose to be listening to it just to hear the key words he could remind me of during labour! Think I may go and have a listen to the CD now in the bath (although I have to clean the bathroom fist as dh only finished painting it last night!) so I'll catch up with you guys a little later - thanks for the chat though

melsy · 26/08/2006 13:56

ohh lol u poor mummy dreamy , what a 48hrs u have had. Is it sulphury ? mine packs up when we dont clear out all the tray gunge.

Enjoy the bath padmep, it still goes in even if u fall asleep ! is it the mongan justine oleary or the natal hypno one , Maggie something?

PadmeP · 26/08/2006 15:22

Took one look at the mess in the bathroom and desided I didn't have the energy to clean, so had lunch instead!! Now just sitting around imitating the cats. Anyone still around?

Melsy, yes, its a Natal Hypnotherapy CD, by Maggie Howell.

dreamydowler · 26/08/2006 15:36

hi there Im here too was supposed to be cleaning the living room today but everyone is too wiped out to help and I cant bend down to get the toys etc off the floor so waiting till dp has woken up. my due date is 30th by the way was hoping for a night of passion to start things off tonight but doesnt look likely

katylou25 · 26/08/2006 16:09

I'm still here too wasa wake with contractions half the night again , and think DS is starting to pick up on me being unsettled was awake at two this morning for 1/2 hour and then up and ready to start the day at 5.30 - so I mananged 1 1/2 hours sleep! Hes had a couple of naps today though so i've used that as an excuse to go back to bed. Am still having odd tightenings now and a dull constant pain in betweeen spoke to midwife this morning and she seeemed to think could eiother be imminent or could still have a week to go - I can't carry on like this for a week!!!!

AAh dreamy you have my sympathy with your house full of sickies - must be horrible for you.

Thats great news Ellanatal! Congratulations! Also gives me hope that mine might not be the monster they're predicting after DS - however would sort of be dissapointed if not big because that's the consultants reasoning for not signing me off for home birth or mw led unit and sending me to big nasty hospital instead!!

Ds has just woken up now so off to park going to try and be very energetic in case it helps things along!

Fingers crossed for you Olivio!

olivo · 26/08/2006 16:37

hello again and welcome padmep!as the others have said, there are still a few of us around, although we are all wishing the days away I think!

I'm still getting intermittent pains but nothing regular and nothing that takes my breath away. went out for lunch then took my nephew out for walk, shattered now! will try another walk again before dinner time and then might try a clary sage bath - keep reading mixed reports so not sure.and the cumin and honey is on stand-by...

katylou - hope yu are not too frustrated.

dreamy - how is the house of sickness?

PadmeP · 26/08/2006 16:53

Hi Katyloo and Olivo,

When were your due dates? Very impressed with all the walking olivo, I certainly don't have the energy for that or a night of passion, dreamy! (Heard its just the semen that gets things going so might try the turkey baster trick if DH is up for it tonight (sorry if TMI!)) Otherwise been trying curries and pesto (someone told me about that last week -it was a new one on me). Also a homeopothist told me to take Caulophyllum 30c once a day. I had a friend who went into labour 4 hrs after taking it but its now my 3rd day and nothing
Whats the cumin and honey thing?

olivo · 26/08/2006 17:02

padmeP - I'm only 2 days over but have tried lots of things - raspberry leaf, fresh pineapple, walking , bouncing, curry, a stretch and sweep (ouch! not pleasant!) - all to no avail so far. the cumin tea is what one of the girls on here had and it worked for her - a teaspoon of cumin seeds in boiling water and a spoon of honey!!

off to do some more bouncing!!

PadmeP · 26/08/2006 17:17

stretch and sweep - ooooo - you are brave!! I'm now officially 9 days over but I'm not too worried as I worked my due date out to be 23rd - so only 3 days over if I go by that! I think I'll start to think about outside intervention when I'm about 14 days over the midwives due date (and 9 days over mine) - although I think I'd rather have a cesarean than a stretch and sweep!!
Do you have any inkling of when you're baby will come? DH predicted this weekend (hope the midwives haven't gone on holiday coz of the bank holiday!) I was thinking it would all happen when my morning glory got its first flower and have just seen that there are a couple this morning but also a couple from yesterday which I didn't spot - so now I'm confused! Maybe I've been being too sedate and I should try a bit of bouncing too but it all seems like so much energy and I'm of half a mind that I need to save my energy for a long labour ahead of me. Do you just bounce away on your birthing ball?

katylou25 · 26/08/2006 17:34

I was due on the 20th Padmep so now 6 days over - just frustrated with endless contractions doing nothing!!! Have been on seesaw and swings and am now off to try the cumin tea thingy think iv've got some in the cupboard! Am only doing lotsd of walking etc cos its the easiest way to amuse 19mth DS is to take him out otherwise would just be collapsed ina heap ont he sofa!

snic · 26/08/2006 18:04

hi all, im still here too. i know i dont post much but i do keep up with all the news. officially due date today, but still nothing happening, im getting lots of tightenings and period type pains but nothing to suggest labour is imminent.hoping something will happen this weekend while dh is around.

olivo · 26/08/2006 18:33

katylou - let me know how the cumin tea is!

hi snic - fingers crossed for you that something happens this weekend!

katylou25 · 26/08/2006 19:07

Have just drunk the cumin tea - tasted strange but not horrible iykwim - like a sweet mild curry - so fingers crossed it does the trick!

dreamydowler · 26/08/2006 19:17
