Thanks iatesomeofthepies, I had to chase up my booking appt so kinda expecting the same with the scan. So excited about seeing the little one again, albeit apprehensive.

Only one choice of hospital really for me unless I want to travel a bit. I think we get whooping cough jabs during our pregnancy btw, I saw somewhere on my notes.

CumbrianExile · 19/02/2014 18:43

Yay for all of you with scans today.

It feels so good being able to tell people now! Spoke to most of my relations (small family) and close friends yesterday. Told the boss this morning, and now the whole office knows! No more hiding if I need to run to the bathroom anymore Grin

topmammy · 19/02/2014 20:06

Urghh struggling to take my vitamin tablet again. Just thinking about it makes my gag reflex twitch! Really need to get a grip lol. Might try snapping it in half.

I'm going to tell my boss next week Cumbrian, I'll be glad too when everyone I work with knows. It's hard work carrying a secret round with you, even if it is a nice one! Grin

broodylicious · 19/02/2014 21:35

Do you take pregnacare by any chance? Those bad boys are just too big for me and were making me wretch, plus it recommends taking them on a full stomach (I prefer to take them at breakfast time with my juice) so I'm just on tiny folic acid tablets now.

OP posts:
topmammy · 19/02/2014 21:48

Not pregnacare, I'm taking seven seas but they are pretty much the same size. I usually take them in the evening when I have a full stomach but I think it's being full that makes it difficult to swallow anything else. Managed to get one down tonight though hurrah! I was taking the little folic acid tablets instead as well but now I'm past 12 weeks I think folic acid alone isn't enough now.

Just out of interest ladies if youve had your blood results back what is your iron level? Mine is 136. MW said they don't like it to go below 100. I felt like she was maybe implying mine is almost on the low side so that'd why it'd be interesting to compare.

Missingcaffeine · 19/02/2014 22:59

rockin I had a total meltdown at work last week, for no particular reason other than being hormonal and tired, then went home and slept for 17 hours!

I read somewhere that up to 40% of 1st baby home births end up being transferred to hospital during labour, but this statistic is much lower for subsequent births. Anyway, that was enough for me to decide not to have a home birth as a first timer. If I ever have subsequent pregnancies though, I like the idea of a home birth, but would only consider it if the nearest hospital was very close - as if there was an emergency and things went wrong, then minutes can be critical.

Re whooping cough, I'll definitely have the jab. There's been a huge surge in whooping cough over the last couple of years, so risk is higher than ever.

topmam you've just reminded me to take my awful vitamin tablets - I keep forgetting. My OH has got me taking omegas too - to help brain development as he has been reading up and thinks these are needed. I think the most important thing is not missing the folic acid. Getting anything else down is a bonus!

OneInAMinion · 20/02/2014 07:28

Thanks broody & missing. As you can probably tell I overthink things and my job involves facts, evidence and expert advice to help others make decisions so I hate it when things are more shades of grey.

I'm going to go midwife led and just see what happens...but I will be asking the midwife a bazillion questions next week Grin

Still unsure on the vaccine, but I have longer to decide on that so I'll do a bit more research. I'm pro vaccination but concerned about introducing new things into my system whilst pregnant and I don't understand why the baby wouldn't develop my immunity from previous jabs and having had whooping cough as a kid. Not sure I'll get much further though as pregnant woman are understandably not included in drug trials usually and so they have no evidence to know what the dangers are in pregnancy of having it.

Sorry to hear that so many people are feeling all over the place Hmm I feel like a bit of a fraud getting to 9 weeks (tomorrow) with absolutely no symptoms. Fingers crossed it's still in there in one piece!

OneInAMinion · 20/02/2014 07:29

Oh & I agree...the pregnacare tablets are enormous! I always have a pint of water with me to get them down and I have to concentrate when I'm doing it or I can't Grin

Kittyrose1 · 20/02/2014 08:12

Morning ladies, really pleased to hear good news on the recent scans!
I've spent the last couple of evenings crying:( I've never felt so exhausted in my life. By 3/4pm I'm shattered and then the nausea kicks in. I'm 9+2 today and still no me appt. I rang Monday and it seems both in my area are off! One on annual leave and the other off sick! I've been assured I will get an appointment between now and my 12w scan which is 3 weeks tomorrow.
Really trying to stay postive as I know how lucky I am, just with not being able to tell anyone at work etc trying to get through the day is awful. Last night me and dh had a bit of a row because I was basically being over sensitive and I snapped at him. Feel so bad today as he is being an absolute rock at the moment doing everything around the house, dinners and stuff. :( sorry to bring the mood down! I'll be fine soon I'm sure

bugoven · 20/02/2014 08:40

kitty you need to be kinder to yourself. OH may be doing a fantastic job but so are you! Growing a little person takes over everything and I have gone from being a very tolerant, energetic and positive person to sometimes completely unreasonable and demanding. I felt exactly like you and as though I couldn't justify myself. In three weeks when you and your OH see your perfect little person you'll hopefully do what I did and forgive yourself having seen proof of what my poor body had been up to Xx

topmammy · 20/02/2014 08:48

Don't worry Kitty, it's an overwhelming and stressful time so don't be too harsh on yourself. The tiredness makes everything feel more difficult, I can certainly sympathise with you there. Take one day at a time and try not to punish yourself for something you did yesterday as it'll only put you in a bad mood and the cycle will continue. I'm sure you'll get your MW appt soon :) Here have some Cake to cheer you up (MS permitting!)

I read in my pregnancy book that some people think that MS can be a natural way to put you off things that are not good for baby I.e. alcohol and junk food. Well, I've not touched alcohol, I'm not a drinker anyway, but I have definitely fancied eating junk food and have eaten it Blush !!

Kittyrose1 · 20/02/2014 08:49

Thank you bugoven, you're right I should be kinder to myself , it's amazing what a womans body does in the first 12w and I'm forgetting that! Thank you xx
looking forward to the scan and also we have decided to tell family next week :) hope you're symptoms are easing now? X

bugoven · 20/02/2014 08:58

My symptoms really ate getting much more manageable and I have a lot more energy. I was cross with DM for suggesting my symptoms were in my jead but to some extent the relief of seeing all is ok and feeling my bump growing has probably eased my anxiety. I can now just enjoy it all and am allowing myself to be a bit sleepy and hormonal without getting upset.

whiteblossom · 20/02/2014 10:34

Morning all, Im so glad all the scans were positive and Im so happy for you!! A week tomorrow is my scan and I cant wait.

Ive woken up the last two days and when I have put my hand on my lower belly, I def' have a bump but its mostly left sided...whats that all about, anyone else have this?

IAteSomeofthePies · 20/02/2014 11:01

Oh my gosh, Kitty. Only one row with your DH over hormonal unreasonableness?! You are a saint! Wink I've been variously in floods of tears or grumpy or exhausted or elated. Poor DH can't keep up.

Glad to hear that your symptoms are abating, Bugoven. I'm feeling much more human, too.

Minion it is my understanding that the whooping cough vaccine in late pregnancy is a fairly recent add to the recommended programme in the UK, in response to the recent resurgence of the disease. So even though you're of course right that few trials include pregnant women, you might be able to find comparative population studies from before and after the addition. I hope they help. As for the lack of sickness, I'm sure your bean is tucked in nice and tight, and just being extra good to its mummy.

Is anyone else toting around their notes all the time this early on? One day of lugging them around and I'm already tired of them. It is of course easier than the rest of this pregnancy gig but still I'm finding that all the little inconveniences add up!

IAteSomeofthePies · 20/02/2014 11:11

Whiteblossom I think my bump is mostly flab, but at the scan last week the sonographer was definitely focussing on my lower left abdomen. So maybe the baby is so small that it can be on only one side or the other?

Kittyrose1 · 20/02/2014 13:01

Thanks for the cake topmammy much needed! Thanks for being so understanding and making me feel much better, it's nice to know I'm not the only hormonal one lol but also that there is almost permission to be cranky considering all that is going on inside! I hear you on the junk food thing, size yesterday I've fancied a Big Mac! I don't even eat muh meat only usually chicken. Must need the iron?
Thanks too I ate some that made me giggle :) it's hard work these emotions going all directions.
Whiteblossom I'm the same mine is mainly on the right x x

Mummyinpink1289 · 20/02/2014 14:39

Hi Ladies, i am still lurking just been so crazy and had nothing new to say really as ive kinda had no symptoms or anything i need to bore you all with! lucky for you! :-p

My scan is on monday and if anything im so aprehensive about telling everyone. dont know why as i never felt like this with my first 2 but i just dread telling people at work. My manager told me yesterday that shes just found out shes 6 weeks pregnant...which i had suspected...so i told her i was pregnant too but it was all a bit hush hush at lunch time and no one else at work knows. exciting to have a pregnancy buddy tho and we were pregnant the same time in our last pregnancies too which is weird.

definately getting a little podge now, keep hiding it at work and someone already asked this week if im pregnant becos i keep hiding my belly. I went bright red and said no...a big fat lie that il have to tell them about next week when i announce my pregnancy!

Glad to see most of you are also emotional and hormonal too, one minute i want to cry and the next i want to rip my DH's head off for putting plastic in the rubbish bin and not the recycling! poor DH.

isitme1 · 20/02/2014 15:11

has anyone seen waffles?
How is everyone doing?
Im 13weeks today
very up and down with emotions lol
doesnt help when kids don't sleep

Lottiedoubtie · 20/02/2014 15:42

Hi just checking in again. Great news from the recent scans. I've mostly been puking and trying not to move for the last several weeks. I'm either 10 weeks 2 or 9 weeks 5 depending on if you believe the early scan I had or not. Seriously hoping I can pull myself together soon...

BexBoo12 · 20/02/2014 16:24

Hi everyone, I'm sorry I've not posted much, I have been lurking and keeping up on all the posts, but I've been a bit down in the dumps lately - not about my pregnancy (feeling my tummy is about the only thing keeping me sane) but the reaction we've had from telling close family. We've only told a handful of people - the people that both DH and I would need support from should anything happen and their reaction has quite frankly been quite awful and I'm so upset about it. I haven't posted much because I don't want to put a dampener on anyone else's experiences - you've all got plenty going on with hormones, symptoms etc!! I just didn't want anyone to think me rude.

Bex xx

broodylicious · 20/02/2014 16:39

Oh bex so sorry to hear that. In what way have they been awful? It's such a shame that people can't be happy for others. And don't worry about posting Hmm or Angry stuff - if you look at most of my posts they're all "woe is me, fretting over no symptoms, boo hoo..." - we are all here for you no matter happy or sad xxx

Fairypants · 20/02/2014 17:08

Evening all!
Sorry you aren't getting a positive response Bex. That's really horrid. Last time I was pg I told my dad who started to say 'oh no!' before I firmly told him it was good news. My fil went on about 'what do you want to do that for?' so I avoided them for a bit and have avoided them so far with this pregnancy. Some ppl can be really insensitive.
In terms of bump, I have developed a pot belly but it is mostly junk food (whatsits etc). I can feel my uterus as it is harder and bigger than usual but I don't expect to see it early as I have a tilted uterus so it will be pushing backwards until around 12 weeks.
I have told 2 ppl at work as its easier having someone who knows and can cover for me. I also told my 2 sisters but one of them guessed (her x girlfriend knew about my mc and called to tell her I was drinking pineapple juice in her barSmile).
I've been really worried on and off so booked a private scan for a week tomorrow when I will be 10+6 and passed the point where I lost the last one so hoping I can relax a bit if that scan goes well. I also think I have heard the baby's heartbeat on my Doppler!! I'm not sure but it was so much faster than my own pulse I'm hopeful that's what it wasGrin

whiteblossom · 20/02/2014 17:32

lots of lob-sided bumps then! Grin

bex come and tell us what's been going on. Is it your bil/sil? Cake Its always better to get it off your chest.

Not seen waffles either Sad

I just half a huge homemade cherry scone, covered in jam. mmmmm

oh and kittyrose my money is on a blue one for you! my last pregnany was all about mcd's burgers and I too normally would opt for chicken. Smile

topmammy · 20/02/2014 17:39

Mummy in pink, I wish I had a pregnancy buddy too! Thats lovely :)

Poor you Bex that doesn't sound very nice for you at all. Feel free to vent on here, it's what we're all here for! :)

I think I have a bit of a bump, I'm 13w+2 so I guess it is likely to begin showing around now. Although definitely got some flab going on too!! Too much Cake . Really hope I go overdue....( I bet I'm one of the few mums to be in the land wishing for this!) don't really want my baby being the youngest in it's class. Sods law it'll come on time though haha.
