Sorry that was codeine without paracetamol

mabel1973 · 22/08/2006 09:49

Thanks for all the sympathy ladies - we haven't heard any more from BIL, he is back in London now. He apologised to DH via text message, which to me means nothing. I think actions speak louder than words in this case anyway. As you say Liquid, he can't be trusted around our family and DS and baby are our priority.
One of the things to come out of this, which has really annoyed me is my MIL's reaction (although true to form), when DH told her and his dad on sunday what had happened (he felt they should know), she got understandably upset, but then turned it all round on herself saying that since she'd retired all she'd done was look after other people (her mother, her husband(!) and now her son), I assume me and DS were inluded in this statement, as she's been having him 1 day a week for me since I got really big. It is typical of her 'me me me' attitude and I now feel I can't ask for help with the new baby as it's obviously all too much for her, and as for moaning about looking after her own son, well regardless of how old your children are, surely you never stop looking after them??! Sorry rant over...
Liquid - hope your important meeting goes ok - roll on your maternity leave! I don't know how you ladies who are still at work are coping - I finished work at 34 weeks with DS (I did get a bit bored though I have to admit!)

Angeliz · 22/08/2006 11:11

Go girl!!

Can't wait for an update...

compo · 22/08/2006 11:58

Brilliant news Angeliz - so glad you're hopefully getting the homebirth you want

homemama · 22/08/2006 13:54

Wow, Angeliz! Good luck girl! Glad you're at home and relatively relaxed!

mandaz · 22/08/2006 14:06

Angeliz - best wishes, I look forward to reading about your new arrival!

I am getting totally paranoid now about pains 'down there'. I keep thinking I'm having crampy pains but then they go and I'm not so sure it was anything. I'm slightly concerned that my feet are really starting to swell now - pretty much as soon as I get up in the morning, they start swelling all over the tops and round my ankles. My Mum said my neck and face looked swollen last night too. The thing is I don't have any other symptoms and my bp was checked last week and although slightly raised, it wasn't what you'd call high. I'm not booked in to see the mw until next Wednesday. I guess I'll just see if it gets any worse. I'm sure they could squeeze me in tomorrow if needs be.

I've decided to bake cheese scones this afternoon which is curious because I always used to get baking urges around my periods. Hope everyone is ok.

clairemow · 22/08/2006 14:21

Mandaz, cheese scones sound gooooood! I have got swollen ankles too, but not as bad as yours sound. Last pregnancy, I swelled up much more than this one, mostly water retention, and my blood pressure remained low throughout. Worth checking though if you're uncomfortable.

liquidclocks · 22/08/2006 17:37

I wonder if there's anew arrival asI write this - how exciting!- best of luck Angeliz!

Well the midwife left an hour or so ago and I've just writing my birth plan. She was really helpful and really nice, good combination! She's written in my notes to say I should get priority for a side room - I offered to pay if it would help and she said it wouldn't make any difference as I'd be getting priority anyway. We also talked about my labour with DS and she got the trace out for my contractions - they were as I'd remembered, pretty strong with no 'recovery time' - she said this was probably because I had my waters broken artificially and that this time things would probably be very different. We also discussed the strep b thing and it turns out that if I'm managing ok I might still be able to use the pool or have a bath (thinking carefully though after what my friend told me!). we talked about lots more too but won'tbore you all - enough to say I'm feeling much more reassured than I was and a lot less anxious.

Mandaz - get your BP checked tomorrow if swelling's still there, the practice nurse/midwife/delivery suite can all do it and best to be sure - my mum developed pre-eclampsia really quickly, not scaring you, just saying it can happen so get checked.

Got to goand pick DS up from nursery now - maybe by the time I get back there'll be an announcement. Hope everyone's well!

Coriander73 · 22/08/2006 17:44

Angeliz...can't believe you managed to get to the pc to keep us informed!!! Sounds very exciting & as I type this...maybe you have had him already?! Do let us know as soon as

Clairemow, worth checking it out...no point in faffing around if you are so close....I'm sure it's nothing but swelling so late on can be something more sinister...(not that I want to be doom & gloom just that I think we all need to be careful with our due dates so close etc)...quick check with your MW && hey presto..mind at rest I'm sure? I had MW check today...finally asked her about the hair down there issue..! She looked quite bemused & said they don't shave you anymore unless section & they don't even give it a second thought....so although the bits are trimmed ish...I've decided not to worry about it anymore, especially given that I just cannot see it anymore.. I'm a bit surprised also as I've put on nearly 3 stone again, like last time. Although I haven't weighed mysefl I really thought I wasn't as big...even had a few friends comment that I didn't look as big this time. So, personal trainer here we come again.....sometime next year..

Can I ask a rather embarassing question? Does anyboy else find that they have strongish urine odur & are slightly wet (& no liquid, not for the reasons you'd think!!!)? I've been forced to put a pad in as from the beg of the day the smell starts to get me down & the dampness is driving me mad. I spoke to MW about it who was concerned my waters could be trickling but it's not a constant trickle at all. I feel rather embarassed about it as I didn't have this before & it's not as if I'm not washing etc (I'm using fem wash now as I'm so pertubed by the smell not that it seems rt make any difference). The thing is when I had my infection some 6 weeks back the smell was different..this time it just seems to be quite like amonia almost...I don't know..on the scale of things I suppose it's not a huge issue but I was wondering if I'm alone in this? Am going to drop off a sample anyhow tm so it can be tested...

Cori - I'm not that bad am I?! Did actually get some action last w/e!

With regards to your personal problem 'down there' I've found I've needed some of those really small panty liners for a while now (and not for THOSE reasons I'm sure!) but no smell of ammonia at all. I heard that if you think it might be waters you should lie down for half an hor and then see if you get a little 'gush' when you stand up. I think it's quite normal to get extra discharge during pg but also you're more prone to thrush, bacterial vaginosis and other infections. I'd tell your midwife and get a swab at least to make sure you haven't got an infection.

And thanks for asking the 'gardening' question, glad one of us finally had the courage!

...c'mon Angeliz! Hope she's ok!

mandaz · 22/08/2006 19:05

Cori - it was me with the swelling and I will get it checked out if it's still a problem tomorrow. I've had swollen ankles throughout the pg but over the last couple of days they've been noticably worse. As for the wee thing, I've noticed a stronger than usual smell and yes, I have had 'dribbles' but I figured it was just the extra pressure on the bladder from LO. I certainly haven't had anything constant.

Well, I made some cheese scones and some raisin ones. Only problem being I can't stop eating them now! I have hidden them away in a cupboard but I don't think they'll be in there long Oh, and I just bought a brand new 1 tog Grobag off Ebay for £15 which I reckon is quite a bargain. I wasn't sure if the 2.5 tog one would be too thick as the weather seems to be warming up again. So, I've had some baking and retail therapy today. Back to the ironing tomorrow!

Coriander73 · 22/08/2006 19:34

Opps sorry Mandaz! Good to hear you'll check it out. Also thanks for the feedback from you & Liquid on the down below problem..!!!

1Baby1Bump · 22/08/2006 19:43

Coriander- I;ve had that but it's died down at the minute.
Just lately I've had a slightly bloody smell and got excited as I thought a show may follow soon but it hasn't. Anyone else had that smell?
Lovely question I know!!
Also, I keep getting the start of contractions and then they go away which is really annoying me now.

mandaz · 22/08/2006 19:44

No problem
Actually, it sounds awful but it's kindof reassuring to know that other people are worrying about stuff like the wee thing! It's really hard to know what's normal and what isn't.

pol26 · 22/08/2006 20:37

Hey everyone...!

Homemamma- thank you for the offer of bits to my friend. Can I give you her email addy and then let you sort out postage etc... between the two of you? bexsaxelby at hotmail dot co dot uk... mine is realmarypoppins at yahoo dot co dot uk.

Normsknockers- totally understanding you being fed up with DH. I could kill my DP and i'm thinking that he is so lazy. And then the comments of- yes I know you feel ill because you're pregnant and then huffing!!! it's making me fuming!

Angeliz- wow wow wow!!! Get you going for it! And six cm with no gas and air- you're a stronger woman than me, lol Whats the news?

Cori- my wee absolutely stinks, it's hideous like boys wee. It was when I was preg with DD too and really really really horrid. As for the trickle- I hated having a cold earlier on in preg, sneezing and holding a wee in isn't possible when you're preg!

STILL NO NEWS on my front. I've had less pains now that I had last week and i'm really fed up and snappy. I've been a little worried as LO doesn't seem to have moved so much today or yesterday, Have been really poking him too and eating sweet things etc... he is either stubborn (like his mum) too big to move (highly likely, I make Davina McCall look like Kate Moss) or something is the matter- OR even better he is getting ready for the off!!! But I am seeing the mw tomorrow and so will let her know my concerns. I have had ten movements but only just and normal i'd have ten easily within half an hour of my crunchy nut cornflakes...

Also SSSSOOOOOOO swollen, even my two sizes too big sandals are too small. They really hurt last night too and DD seems to have a habit of treading on them, ouch!!! I'm going to check with the mw tomorrow about that too.

p.s. started drinking raspberry leaf tea.

homemama · 22/08/2006 21:44

Pol, as long as your friend is ok about me emailing her then I'll do that. Have you tried drinking very cold water or placing something hot or cold on your tummy? My lo is moving less this last 2 weeks and I had a scan last tue so know everything is ok. I think he/she is just getting fat.

I've been a bit worried about smelly wee too as I don't remember it from last time. Glad you're all smelly too! I'm also worried about another smell similar to what 1B1B said. I keep thinking I smell of menstrual blood. But here's the worst part... It's like stale menstrual blood. It's not something I'm used to as I'm almost obsessive about hygiene when I'm having my period but you know the smell I mean. Maybe I should speak to midwife.

LC, glad your situation is looking more positive. Fingers crossed you get your room.

Angeliz, I've been thinking about you all evening. Hope your liitle boy is now here safe and well and that you are oing well too!

1Baby1Bump · 22/08/2006 21:45

thats the smell homemama!
i didnt have it first time either.
sometimes its kinda like fresh beef mince. tmi, i know, but i wanted reassurance i wasnt alone!

pol26 · 22/08/2006 21:48

Homemamma- she will be so grateful for it and let her know I have passed on her email addy.

Have been having pains for forty mins.... about ten pains and going to start timing now even though they aren't 'big' ones but seem to be quiet close and reg and building in my back too... fingers crossed! Although holding out no hope as We've had this before a few times and getting fed up of being awake all night then them just stopping. My sis told me crawling round on all fours in circles is supposed to bring on labour- how true it is tho??! although would prob be quiet amusing for DP to see me do.

1Baby1Bump · 22/08/2006 21:50

how many weeks are you pol?
i'm stopping and starting too.

pol26 · 22/08/2006 21:52

1baby1bump- i'm 36 weeks and been happening since 34, although mw said I was measuring nearly 37 at 34 weeks- not sure if that makes any difference tho.
