Oh I'm so glad that I'm not the only one being driven insane by the acid!! Me and ds met dh for lunch today in Wetherspoons and I just couldn't think of anything i fancied to drink like my usual lemonade etc so in the end dh got me a glass of milk They hopefully assumed it was for ds. Dh laughed and said how had it come to this when I used to drink pints of cider!!!
Can sympathise with dh's planning things instead of helping out. My dh has a lads weekend in a couple of weeks and then at the end of the month he's going to the inlaws for FIL's 60th b/day. I don't mind that one so much as he's taking ds and I have pleaded being heavily pregnant so don't have to go. Couldn't stand the 6 hour drive with achey ribs in te car and dh luckily agreed that having to stop every hour for me to go to the loo would really lengthen the journey!!

mabel1973 · 02/08/2006 21:08

Pol - I would be fuming too!!! and very upset at the lack of consideration and (tell me if I'm being too harsh) slight stupidity at suggesting going away so close to the birth!!
MY DH is away the w/e before my due date, but he is having to work at Leeds festival and we need the money. He will be on standby all weekend and has promised he won't drink at all so he can drive home if anything happens- v. hard at a festival!

Liquid - I would just sod the bath and give him one in the morning, it won't do him any harm - but that's not the point is it.
I think we can safely safe that sometimes men just DON"T THINK!!

Marls001 · 02/08/2006 21:10

WOW - there's a lot already on this thread!!

Best of luck with a frustrating situation, mimpim.

Mabel -LOL! Isn't potty training hard?? We're putting it off now ... DS is with yours on TV, by the way ... I've read it's not harmful; yay!

Ezridax - Once your DH sees you in labor and giving birth, if he reacts the way mine did, he will be in awe of you forever. DH describes it with respect as "your marathon", he's run two. I can't watch video births either - they're not at ALL like mine felt to me ...

Liquid & Pol ... that would totally tick me off. Try graphically explaining your physical changes in terms of what it would mean to your DH's own body ... sometimes he may need a vivid mental picture.

As to DHs ... DH is again in California on business; left Monday; back Friday late. He has one more trip to go but that will only be for two nights. I can tell he feels terrible as he's told me to hire a sitter(!) each night this week while he's away, which of course I won't.

I hate to be succumbing to physical frailties - I just like to keep going and going ... but all of a sudden I am battling so many things at once ... daily bloody nose (more annoying than anything); pain in groin area; the worst is nearly constant dizziness and nausea. I have tried to be so good today re: food to stave off the latter two, but really have no idea what's causing them. I absolutely hate to be weak or ask for anything or have to miss social events like I will be for the rest of this month and it's really bothering me ... yes I know I'm 8.5 months pg but this debilitation has come upon me so suddenly!! Last week I agreed to be interviewed/photographed for a newspaper story on "exercising while pregnant," and Sat. night was dancing happily in heels at DS's bday ... had been going like that the entire pg so kind of hard to explain that suddenly now I'm feeling sick all the time. I only hope it gets better; still have a lot I want to do.

pol26 · 02/08/2006 21:16

I know the feeling about acid... although I seem to remember that it was worse with DD and I too had all the 'oh they'll have lots of hair'... hummmmmm! But it has been waking me up at night with that burning throat sensation and then i've been propped up and swig-ing gaviscon in the dark. Finished my first big bottle last night after eating roasted butternut squash, red onions and peppers with garlic, mustard seeds and turmeric- yummmmmmmmmy except it gave me really bad acid. Although I did have my first glass of wine in ages, which may have caused it too.

Just feeling naff and weird.

Myrtle1 · 02/08/2006 21:38

I sympathise with the heartburn - I've also been sat propped up in the middle of the night with burning throat and I've had the comment about lots of hair too!
MIL is coming to stay from Monday for the whole week - am dreading it as she is one of those women that has an opinion on everything and always thinks she is right. She lives in germany so when she comes to stay she stays for a week and by the end of the week I'm a seething, fuming boiling pot of frustration! I sound so mean don't I but she just does things like weighs me (she thinks I'm too thin) and is always checking to see what I've eaten etc.

Marls001 · 02/08/2006 22:04

Oh, yes. the horrible heartburn, also on my "woe is me" list - but it was with me even before 1st pg; oh well ... Nexium works well too.

Homemama, if makes you feel better DH hasn't made a pass at me in weeks either ... I think he's stayed back b/c he knows how awkward I've been feeling with the enormous bump. But can't WAIT for things to just get themselves back to normal.

1Baby1Bump · 02/08/2006 22:13

hello!
i dont know if anyone will recognise me as i can never keep up with these threads.
for those who can:
i am still measuring two weeks larger than i am, hopefully baby will come early. ds was a week early and if this one is bigger he will b even earlier!

omg. im so fat and uncomfortable! my boobs keep leaking- how annoying is that!? anyones elses?

its my last day at work tomorrow!- yay! cant blinking wait- i hate that place so much now!

i am getting really excited about the birth now as i really enjoyed giving birth to ds1 and they say they get easier and quicker the more you have. hopefully its true and not a lie to make me feel better!

still have not packed my bag. i cant remember what you put in it and ds was only born a year ago!!

pol26 · 02/08/2006 22:22

Just eaten my third helping of home made rice pudding... which I made today and managed to set fire too... but it was lovely underneath, all stodgey and yummy!

DP hasn't made any passes at me for about a week, and i'm kinda glad really as what not still feeling as if it has been split in two. However having said that wouldn't mind a 'bit' sorry if tmi!!! I have just been going to bed much earlier than him and so the chance really hasn't risen (lol).

clairemow · 03/08/2006 08:53

compo, having the same problem with eating - I feel really hungry, get food in front of me, then can't eat much. It's worst in the evening. But then I woke up starving at 4 am this morning...

Pol - when is your due date again? Ask DH how he would feel if you were on your own when the baby came, and with DD to cope with as well. Bath to Essex isn't exactly close, so he might miss everything. Surely he can see this isn't sensible...?? Or maybe not, he is a man after all. Have been having a "discussion" with DH about a wedding we're going to in a couple of weeks - I'll be 37 weeks, and DS arrived at 38, so it could happen - but he's a bit pissy when I say he shouldn't drink just in case we have to drive to a hospital (would a cab take a woman in labour - might dirty the seats...!). MEN. I told him there was no way he was coming with me if he was drunk - imagine the embarrassment - "oh sorry nurse, my husband isn't normally this erratic".

Homemama, sorry to hear you're still sick - bet you can't wait to have the baby out so you can feel a bit more normal! LOL at the sex thing - but totally understand what you're saying, it's about being wanted, not necessarily wanting to do anything!

Last day of work today... hurrah! Already looking forward to the lie in next week - DS is still going to nursery... Yipee!

puppy · 03/08/2006 09:26

Morning,

yeah a new thread!!!!!!

Mabel hope you got it cleaned in time, I'm sure they would have understood. My DS once decided to wee on my 8 yr old nephews bed when he was younger luckily she had a young child herself so was good about it.

My DH doesn't say the right thing either, well he does itsI have to admit thats its me thats so hormonal not very tearful now just very touchy, bet dh can't wait for the the hormones to go! Even DS is getting a little bit of the hormones bless him, trying my hardest to get him to eat with his mouth closed as the sound is driving me mad, he knows how to do it but refuses. I will just have to stop feeding him lol

Thanks Calmriver good luck with your section , ust admit that I am quite nervous just want that epidural in on time as they say second labours are faster!!

oh Pol26 I would be fuming too!! , you stick to your guns gal.

Aww Homemama sorry the sickness has been bad for you again, this is weird but I am finding the morning sickness is there if I get up before 8am, so have set up a tv in our bedroom for ds to watch while I lounge till past then.

Feeling for all of you with the visitors, Glad you put your foot down liquid ,I was lucky with ds, parents in law where abroad my mum bobbed in just a couple of times as she remembers the visitor thing. Everybody else waited a week before visiting, hoping this happens again.

Liquid I had a similar situation regarding dh bathing DS the other day, My spd was REALLY bad and I could hardly get up the stairs, DH said he was going to have half an hour on the bed (bad day at work which is manual) then bath DS so I could lay on the couch to rest my pelvis. Ok brill, shouted him to wake up to do it said yep getting up now to run the bath but he fell back asleep, this happened a coupe of times and I ended up bathing DS in absolute pain as dh was not coming round, DH was really in the bad books and I have still not let him off .

Sympathise with you all thats suffering from acid, I had it bad when I was pregnant with DS. Not so bad this time. Old wifes tale says that if you get it you will have a baby with a head full of hair, ds was born with a head full of gorgeous blonde hair.

Pol I love homemade rice pud, the skin is the best bit. I have made some caramel shortbread and really wish I hadn't now its so yummy and I can't leave it alone!

Not heard from norms for a while hope she and her lo is ok [worried emoticon]

puppy · 03/08/2006 09:27

Sorry that was so long, was trying to reply to everyones posts.

liquidclocks · 03/08/2006 09:51

Marls - hope you're up to the interview too, though I have to say that personally my 'excercise' is a weekly walk into town (a mile or so) to buy strawberries from the fruit market! Sympathise with your bloody nose, I've been spared this time to an extent but with DS it was almost constant.

32 weeks today!!! The magic number (statistically) - I've told LO I don't mind him coming now. Just very pleased I made it this far, though sods law after all this worry and contractions I'll go over! I packed my bag last night too so I'm dready there and this morning I'm putting together the info about the hospital etc and how to look after DS for whoever ends up coming. Then I just need to sort out 'work' so someone else can pick up from me. Who am I kidding, never going to be REALLY ready!

I hope everyone has a better day with DH's empathy today (me included) - if not perhaps we should think about collaborating on writing a book for expectant dads?

Measuring 8 sheets round bump at mo, people still stopping me in shops and saying 'not long to go now', and then 'no, really?' when I tell them i'm due at the end of september - I must look so huge!

Bella23 · 03/08/2006 10:21

Morning ladies

Well its pretty grim weather here today - HOORAH! Loving the cold and rain.
Am very jealous of all you ladie that have finished work already - next Friday for me and it feels so far away! Just need to get this week over and then all will be great.

Its DH's birthday this weekend so going to treat ourselves a bit and definately no DIY or house stuff etc.

We have a another scan tomorrow morning to see if the placenta is totally out of the way of the exit so am just hoping that I don't end up having to have another internal scan as everytime I'm at that hospital I end up having one!!

I know what you mean about suddenly feeling a bit less capable. I cancelled a meal planned on the 11th August with my brother and his girlfriend because it was at a really expensive restaurant (Gordon Ramsey's new one - been booked for 3 months) and at 9pm. I just figured what is the point when I usually want to be in bed by 9:30 and eating that late would make me a bit grim and all at swanky prices! They were fine about it, just had to shake that feeling off that you are letting people down - hate that feeling. I did feel like a weight had been lifted though as it was starting to play on my mind!

Well best get cracking on with some work.........no motivation at the moment but I am guessing that's the way its going to be until next week !!

clairemow · 03/08/2006 11:01

don't worry Bella - totally no point in going to v. expensive restaurant (even if it is Gordon Ramsay - Mmmm) if you aren't going to enjoy it, or be able to eat half the food - saw the F word last night, and he was doing loads of stuff we couldn't eat anyway - v. rare meat, runny eggs on the starter and raw egg whites in the dessert etc. - and he doesn't seem like the most sympathetic of guys when it comes to how you want your food cooked...!!!

mabel1973 · 03/08/2006 11:22

it is freezing here today - I had to put a jumper on this morning! Now it has finally stopped raining I am going to attempt to go for a walk today, feels like ages since I got any decent exercise, it's either been too hot or raining.
Marls - don't be hard on yourself that you are finally succumbing to all that extra weight - you have done so well with your exercise throughout, putting the rest of us to shame and it will pay off afterwards even if you have to take it easy for the next few weeks.
Myrtle - I cannot believe you MIL weighs you! I thought mine was an interferring bat, but that is just crazy! She ought to mind her own business.
Well my MIL's offer to have DS for me more so that I can rest was short lived. No offer of help this week... Am just dreading her interfering when baby comes along.. I know there are many of you thinking the same thing, I can see us all now on a post natal thread having a good old rant about our MIL's!!

Coriander73 · 03/08/2006 11:59

Mabel...a jumper??!!!!! When I left this morning it was chucking it down, threw a rain mac on DD who was saying "rain face Mummy" & not looking terribly impressed & once she was strapped into car seat I stood there for 20 seconds & got drenched...total bliss

Am I the only strange one who hasn't had sex for 33 weeks & couldn't care less if DH makes a pass or not?!! I'll put it down to the hormones as to be honest although currently I can't bear the thought I am looking forward to having it again...one day!!

lewsmummy · 03/08/2006 12:02

sorry hijack

I'm selling a tens machine in the for sale boards if anyone's after one.

Hijack over

mabel1973 · 03/08/2006 12:09

ooo that's just reminded me I think someone was asking about tens machines. I don't know about different makes, but I have hired mine from the 'newroadclinic.co.uk' it is supposed to be the cheapest hire around (according to the midwives at the hospital where I had DS - although that was nearly 2 years ago so it could have changed, but is def. cheaper than Boots) I have hired one from there again - they send it to you three weeks before your due date and then you can keep it for 6 weeks, but this can be extended if necessary.

clairemow · 03/08/2006 12:38

Did you find the TENS machine useful last time? I had mine on but thought it was pretty useless, and ripped it off in a fit of temper. should I order one this time, do they take a while to kick in? I did have it on for about 2 hours last time... was that enough?

compo · 03/08/2006 13:00

lovely weather - hope it satys like this for the rest of August
I couldn't bear the Tens machine last time and definitely wouldn't pay money for one. It just irritated me and did nothing at all for the pain.
Went to see the midwife today - she took another platelet count and if it has dropped again she said she'd ring me as i'd have to see the GP. She said the only thing it would mean is that I can't have the baby at the midwife-led unti. I pointed out that I had already said that I was going to have the baby at the next nearest hospital ofering a complete service - ie epidurals and c-sections in case i need them. They never remember these things do they?!!
We've only had sex once this pregnancy. I want to give it a go for getting labour going in September but can't see how we'll manage it!!

homemama · 03/08/2006 13:32

Lovely wet and windy weather today! Yippee!!!!

Bella, I don't think I could face a rich, heavy meal at the moment either. Glad your rellies understood.

I have a jumper on here too. It's lovely to be back in cosy clothes.

It was me asking about brands of TENS machines. I loved mine last time and it really helped in early labour. I used a Boots one and think I'll do the same this time. I was just wondering if the digital ones offered anything better.

DH brought home a big pack last night about the Australian thing. I must say it looks stunning. We need to have a proper talk I think but I'll wait until I'm less fat.

Compo, just for your information, I've read somewhere that the best way for sex to have the effect of starting off labour, is for you to orgasm twice in quick succession before he does. This apparently makes your cervix very receptive to the hormones in the semen. I can't imagine that piece of advice being written by a man!
We didn't get to try as I wasn't overdue but I had visions of DH saying, 'Is it my turn yet?'

Marls001 · 03/08/2006 14:04

Mabel - when we still lived in Houston my Mom used to do to me what your MIL is doing to you (offering help & then never following through/being available) & it used to drive me up a wall ... nothing helped like moving miles away. Have noticed when she's "helping" now, she's really helping, as doesn't get to see DS1 often.

Luckily, those pics at the gym have already been taken ... whew .. just in time!

Homemama - that sounds like a good plan ... still don't know how we'd fit together these days ... is anyone else's husband looking extra young/slim/muscular to them these days? It's as if I'm feeling more mismatched the larger my body cavity grows. Like I said, can't wait to get back to normal .

Coriander73 · 03/08/2006 14:43

Compo, thank you! Glad to know I'm not the only one..

OP posts:
liquidclocks · 03/08/2006 15:33

Clairemow - if the TENS didn't work for you last time then I wouldn't bother this time. No experience from pg but patients I've had who've used them for other conditions tell me if it doesn't work you on you that's just that, works for some and not others- very hit and miss. I used one while I was being induced - definitely didn't help once I was in 'real' labour!

All this talk of sex and orgasms - STOP! you're making me miss it even more What's wrong with my DH??? I think he needs a chat with cori's to make him realise how good he's got it ;) (no offence cori, really wish I was like you then I wouldn't bother!)

compo · 03/08/2006 16:31

I've been looking at the birth plan checklst at the back of my antenatal notes. Can anyone tel me what the deal is with Vitamin K? i can't remember what it's for and I think ds must have had it?!!
