How fast do we get through these threads?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
FriendofDorothy · 12/02/2014 21:54

I take Fybogel which really helps to keep everything regular.

londonchick · 12/02/2014 22:36

I take fybogel too. Nicer than lactulose!

HungryHorace · 12/02/2014 23:02

Put lactulose in fruit juice. You can't taste it then!

Shakshuka · 13/02/2014 02:01

Hope you're feeling better Ruggle. That sounds nasty. I think I had my first ever migraine at the weekend and it was horrid.

We've got another snowstorm coming our way tonight. I feel bad moaning what with the floods in the UK but I'm so sick of winter!!! I thought pregnant ladies were not meant to feel the cold so much but no such luck here.

We're meant to be going away this weekend (it's a long weekend) and it seemed like a good idea when we planned it ages ago but I'm so totally exhausted by the end of the week that now I'm beginning to regret it. Now I fancy a long weekend of lounging at home and doing nothing.

MrsNutella · 13/02/2014 08:08

Thanks all Smile I live in Germany, which makes explaining these things at the chemists much more hard work than I really need.

But I also had DS here, so I've learnt a lot of words I wouldn't know otherwise. Grin

flymo79 · 13/02/2014 09:07

nutella, I sometimes (more frequently of late) take a senna tablet before bed (two if it's bad) and all's well in the morning!! I can't bear not going so I'd rather it was easy than, ahem, hard.
I have developed a rather nasty rash on my feet which is killing me - I just put HC45 on it (hydrocortisone) then read on the tube "not for use during pregnancy" and had to race to wash it off!! anyone got any tips for random itches and preggo-friendly solutions??

Sorry to hear about the snowstorms Shak, it's just too much isn't it? Being exhausted and needing a break is bad enough without the onslaught of winter. I'm due to go away this weekend too and am terrified about the flight (mostly because I won't be able to have a G&T to steady my nerves!!)

sillymeagain · 13/02/2014 09:15

Flymo...try pure potions skin salvation. ..its amazing and designed by a mum who wanted natural remedy for her babies eczema but works great on anything like that for adults too. Think you can get it online. Last ages too.

PinaColadas · 13/02/2014 10:40

The snow sounds rubbish Shak. The weather across the country is just awful isn't it.

We are finally getting a new combi boiler tomorrow after 10 days of cold, the house has lost any retained heat now and last night I felt like I was camping when I was in bed, my nose was freezing! Not good, can't wait to be able to get a bath again, I'm getting withdrawals

flymo79 · 13/02/2014 13:28

thanks sillyme!! really helpful

Shakshuka · 13/02/2014 15:48

Uh oh. Unexpected consequence of snow day. I took my dds into work with me because their school is shut. They went off to say hello to some of my colleagues who are always very nice to them. And, of course, they blabbed that mummy is pregnant. I'd only told my boss and one other person so i guess now it's going to be common knowledge. Not quite how I expected announcing it!

Where are you going flymo? Anywhere interesting? We're just driving down to Washington DC.

2beornot · 13/02/2014 16:37

Oh no, Shak!! What did colleagues say?! Must've been surprised.

I saw midwife today. Student midwife managed to find baby's heartbeat - 152 bpm! Midwife says girl, but I'm still thinking boy! Anyone know if that's true or just a load of nonsense?

Also got number to obstetric physio so I can self refer to them if pains get worse!

ItsSoFluffyImGonnaDie · 13/02/2014 16:56

Eek, not ideal Shak but it's a different way of announcing it I suppose Grin

That's great news 2be - no idea if it's true or not, I currently have no inkling what's currently growing inside! My 16wk appointment is Monday, seems ages since my scan!

When are we thinking of starting maternity leave? I commute into central London so would like to take 3 weeks AL then start ML 2 weeks before due date.

2beornot · 13/02/2014 17:01

Well I'm starting new job at 19 weeks so think I'll work as long as I can, probably arrange mat leave to officially start at 39+ 5 (!) and take two weeks AL beforehand. All being well of course.

mssleepyhead · 13/02/2014 17:13

I'm lucky that we break up from school on July 23rd, a month before my due date. I'll work until then, but have to work out what's best financially for when to officially go on leave. Counting the days already!!

HungryHorace · 13/02/2014 17:57

Mssleepyhead, wouldn't it be best to wait for the birth to trigger mat leave so you're on full pay until the day it's born? Unless you wanted to finish before 36 weeks?

I'm waiting on a decision from work regarding flexible working, so will decide what I'm doing when I have that knowledge. I will either start at 29, 32 or 38 weeks (with 5 weeks of annual leave prior).

mssleepyhead · 13/02/2014 18:04

That's exactly what I was hoping to do, hungry, wasn't sure if you had to go on it at a certain time though?

HungryHorace · 13/02/2014 18:11

Nope, start it any time after 29 weeks. A friend of mine worked til the Friday of 37+ weeks and gave birth on the Saturday after being in slow labour all day on her last day! :-)

Cazbg · 13/02/2014 18:19

As long as I can cope with not using holiday before my plan is to finish mid July so have 2 weeks al and then2 weeks ml before due date.
On another note - is anyone else still struggling with tiredness? Sofa is all I can do when I get in from work. When des the preganacy glow and 2nd trimester energy start - I was hoping for a switch when I hit 14 weeks and it seems to be running 3 days late : )

weeza13 · 13/02/2014 18:48

Hi, glad to hear that scans are going well for people and that I am not the only one thinking ahead to maternity leave. Not sure when I will start it, friends have warned me that if its a really hot summer you will want to start it sooner as you get exhausted that bit quicker. I also finish term where I work on july 23rd but as am due very early aug I know its very unlikley I will make the end of summer term. Have got midwife next week and am really hoping to hear heart beat for first time (very excited)
I would love to be added to the list but dont know how to do it, if anyone else is able to my stats are: age 35-DC1- due Aug 3rd- team tbc.

Jenbee1 · 13/02/2014 19:50

Dinner then bed for me the last couple of nights. Work is just mental so I'm sure that's not helping.
I was thinking 2weeks ml and 3 weeks al so finishing somewhere around 11th July but not definite yet.
Flymo you should mention that to your mw. Itchy palms and feet can be something else

travispickles · 13/02/2014 20:53

I will have to wait for birth to trigger ml as. We break up 23rd juy but due date is. 6th so I could be WELL pregnant by the time I finish! I have decided that if I need sick leave earlier i will take it although I think if you are Ill 4 weeks or less before due date you are forced to start ml. Like my friend said, if you get high blood pressure you will be signed off regardless. And teaching tough teens can easily induce high blood pressure!! On an unrelated. Topic I went to cinema yesterday and saw. 12 years a slave . Any

travispickles · 13/02/2014 20:53

One else seen it?

Ruggle · 13/02/2014 21:26

I saw it. Cried my eyes out! OH and I couldn't speak until the end of the credits.

FriendofDorothy · 14/02/2014 08:28

Last time I worked until 38 weeks. I plan on doing the same this time but might well decide to take 2 weeks A/L and then start my mat leave at start of August at 38 weeks. Depends if it is hot and I want to go to the beach I suspect!

flymo79 · 14/02/2014 09:29

shak - that sounds a bit cringe! the things kids say, eh?
I'm off to edinburgh and there's a storm forecast with gale force winds, eek. And I don't even have a book to read!!! gah. ungrateful me. This weather makes me just want to crawl under a rock though.
