Good luck, UpQuark.

Is there anybody else today? We must be nearing the end of the scans soon?

weeza13 · 10/02/2014 07:28

Good luck upquark. It is scary and exciting but as soon as you see your baby on the screen you will be mesmerised

flymo79 · 10/02/2014 09:24

good luck all with scans today! just catching up on weekend posts, haven't managed to get any time online all weekend!

DuPainDuVinDuFromage · 10/02/2014 10:41

Good luck everyone with scans today!

I'm feeling rotten, I've got a bug (or maybe food poisoning - could be the leftover pizza I had for tea last night Hmm) - it's been coming out both ends (sorry...) since 3am Sad Just beginning to feel slightly better and able to sit up and look at this thread - had been lying in front of the curling, clutching my tummy... Should I be doing anything baby-wise other than keeping hydrated? I expect it'll have no effect on the little one at this stage...

londonchick · 10/02/2014 10:57

Good luck for all the scans!! Thinking of you all!

I'm starting to feel less sick which is great but occasionally get taken by surprise. Vomited in Sainsburys car park yesterday morning after a night shift!! Grim!

I have actually lost weight so far this pregnancy but my stomach is pretty big so losing the weight has made it more obvious I think.

Found out yesterday that my FIL actually told a load of people when we first told him at Christmas so when we were happily breaking the news last week it wasn't actually a surprise to DH's family. I feel really annoyed with him and I know it's not worth getting into an argument about or anything but it's still really annoying!! I don't get on with my IL's anyway. They live locally (my parents are 200 miles away and much more elderly) and are a nightmare to my SIL with her 2 children so they are the one aspect of having the baby I'm not looking forward to!

Right! Rant over! Sorry I just needed that to get it out of my system!

As you were!

londonchick · 10/02/2014 10:59

DuPain, sorry you're feeling horrid. Yep hydration def the most important thing at this stage. Keep an eye on your temperature too. Make sure it's not an infection and just a bug.

lucyfluff · 10/02/2014 11:04

Awww dupain hope you feel better soon. Lots of water and rest, bubba will be fine.

London, thats really mean! Like you say not worth an argument, maybe a sarcastic remark next time you see them so he gets the hint he was out of order!!! Inlaws can be a pain at times I know how you feel!!

Just had my apt through for the 20week scan on 3rd April eeekkkk....two days before DS bday!!!

jessplussomeonenew · 10/02/2014 12:03

Good luck to today's scannees - just got my scan date which given I'm due at the very end of August must be one of the last here (19th Feb, 12+3).

Nausea appears to have lifted for now which is an unspeakable relief. Most of me wants it never to come back - but another part is already missing the daily reassurance! The scan can't come quickly enough!

jessplussomeonenew · 10/02/2014 12:28

Dupain, when I was struggling to get enough food due to borderline HG the doctor basically said not to worry about the baby because it's getting nourished first and your reserves will be raided to meet its needs, which I found reassuring if a bit of a weird thought. As you and others have said, try to keep hydrated (tiny sips get absorbed very quickly) and if you can, try to take folic acid or any pregnancy vits you were on - sometimes easiest to keep down last thing at night. I really hope you feel better soon.

sillymeagain · 10/02/2014 12:44

Ah Lucy. ..just rebooked mine for the 3rd (dh birthday) I think there are a few others that day too. Looking forward to it. Rebooked as was on 1st but we are going to Paris for a few nights so excited about that too. Just realised that ds in running the mini marathon on the sat and dd has a dance comp on the sun...going to be a very busy week me thinks!

Dupain. ..when I had really bad sick bug I called the midwife and she said baby will be fine but for my sake if I was bringing up even water then to save aggravating my stomach try a few hours of no drink at all. ...and not worry about eating. She did say if it continues more than 48hrs then chk with dr but recommended drinking sips of flat full fat coke (when I could manage it) as it contains diorolytes which help hydrate you quickly. ..hope you feel better soon

Jenbee1 · 10/02/2014 13:56

Good luck for scans today.
Was just wondering if anyone else has the same symptom as me. Periodically over the last week, and definitely worse yesterday, I've been getting a sharp stabbing pain in my left side. I think it's away from the bubba but it is quite painful. No other symptoms.

DuPainDuVinDuFromage · 10/02/2014 14:21

Thanks all - can always rely on getting good advice here! Smile feeling a bit better now...still on the sofa though!

Jen - I've been having stretching pains but not really sharp pains - maybe it is stretching that you're feeling though? Sorry not very helpful!

flymo79 · 10/02/2014 14:38

ugh, dupain, so sorry you're feeling so unwell. I can recommend any kind of prepared rehydration drink if anyone can bring you one. And then back on the water as soon as you can manage. Here's hoping you're over it quickly.
Bit of a long one this, but if anyone who's having similar (or is bored!!) could respond that would be great. I am feeling conflicted about my local NCT. I live rurally, and went to a nearly-new sale at a nearby town on sat. managing not to buy anything as DP and I decided it was too early (though it was VERY tempting!). The lady at the door was really friendly, very helpful and gave me loads of information about how the group is quite informal etc. and with lots of opportunities to join in. But it is clear most of the ladies who are involved and organising things have older kids, and I would want to meet people who are going through the same as me. So I thought the courses could be an option, but found them to be rather pricey at a time when I should be saving, and the person who responded to my email was really hard-sell about it, saying "I've reserved you a place". I'm not shy, so feel okay-ish about making friends, but I just want to know how to access people, and wondered if any first timers out there are having similar or had any ideas.... I know Pina was discussing this a few weeks back and was also put off the cost of NCT....

PinaColadas · 10/02/2014 14:40

Get well soon DuPain look after yourself

Jen I've been having period type cramps for a few days, i've read that it normal as things are stretching (15+3 today) but sometimes if I bend or stretch into an awkward pain I do get sharp pains. It's called round ligament pain. Have a read here: www.webmd.com/baby/guide/pregnancy-round-ligament-pain
If you're worried it might be worth calling your midwife but if it sounds like on the link try not to worry, theres lots going on in there so my mum keeps telling me (every time I ring her worrying)

Looking forward to the scan news :)

PinaColadas · 10/02/2014 14:52

Yes I've decided against NCT courses, at 150+ for a course I've decided the money is going to be better spent on me and the baby (especially with 1500 to fork out for a new boiler this week!! :()

I'll see whats what with the NHS ones which i've heard can be a bit of a sham in my area. I'd like to meet other mums but think there will be plenty of classes once baby is born to go to to meet other people and also am hoping to go to a few Aqua Natal where I might meet some people :D

Ruggle · 10/02/2014 14:57

Flymo, I have the same problem, but not rural as such...just out in the stix of zone 4 London. No village or centre to speak of....just residential houses and an occasional corner shop...so nowhere to go to meet people. When I lived in south London I had parks, library, and Blackheath with its community opera and lots of musical events going on, so now that I'm up north I feel very isolated! I've only been there since October. Anyway, I enquired about NCT classes and they quoted me 279 for 17 hours, though two of those hours are just a post-birth meet-up for people, rather than part of the "course".
I've emailed them today saying i think it's too expensive for me (I could buy a pram or cot with that money) but I really don't know what other options there are out there. None locally it seems.

flymo79 · 10/02/2014 15:55

thanks pina and ruggle for your experiences. I don't want to get on an anti-NCT drive as I'm sure for those who can afford they are totally invaluable! I just think there should be something else, and maybe that does come in the form of the NHS classes (though my suspicion is the same as Pina's - that they are likely to be something of a shambles). even if you wanted a sort of pay-as-you-go thing that would be better than forking out up-front. Anyway, rant over! Don't want to create factions!!
Think I will just have to keep my eyes open, and aqua natal's a good idea Pina, I'll look out for exercise type things. My sis takes her DS swimming and meets lots of mums there.

PinaColadas · 10/02/2014 16:22

Sorry, it's my NHS ones that are a sham not the NCT, I don't have any experience of it other than a friend who went, she enjoyed it but she was really keen to meet friends with babies which was her main drive I think. She met 4 other ladies and they're still meeting up as a group.

SellyMevs · 10/02/2014 17:14
