FriendofDorothy · 09/02/2014 18:09

I have been blogging for about 8 years and my blog is here

Owlysims · 09/02/2014 19:31

Scan tomorrow eekk!! Dd's birthday weekend has kept my mind very occupied but she's in bed now dh is on the play station (I realise he sounds 10 I promise he's not Wink) and my mind is DEFINITELY on the scan now and I feel it will stay that way until 2.30 tomorrow!!!

Anyway, hope everyone else is doing well?!!

weeza13 · 09/02/2014 19:44

Good luck owly for your scan. Question for anyone that knows...I know about bio oil for stretch marks but will any old moisteriser help prevent marks or does it need to be a specific type. Budget is an issue.

mszeen · 09/02/2014 19:48

oh it is so lovely to see the blogs... I've been saying that I would love to start a blog to my OH for a couple of weeks now.. nothing too fab just a diary of pregnancy from my point of view -:trying not to gain the extreme amount of weight I have in past pregnancies (without being unhealthy etc) whilst juggling two children a job and a part time degree... hopefully it will be a success story Grin maybe 'growing tum and shrinking bum, the diary of a podgy mummmy' Grin Grin haha open to suggestions obviously.

Owly - good luck with the scan tomorrow, hopefully you can keep your mind off it until your time otherwise the day will definitely drag Smile. I have mine Tuesday, think I'm getting cystitis though don't know how I will cope with the full bladder tummy prodding... Hmm

Owlysims · 09/02/2014 20:05

Thanks weeza I think as long as you keep as moisturised as possible then you're doing all you can!

Mszeen that sounds fab! I'm also worried about this I put on 4 stone with dd Shock and really don't want to do it again!! Only put on a couple of pounds so far so fingers crossed it'll stay slow and steady. I'm currently a stone overweight and don't want to end up in same position as with dd but I'm much more conscious this time so fingers crossed. Are you currently overweight at the moment or just don't want to end up? How much did you put on in previous pregnancies if you don't mind me asking?! Grin

mszeen · 09/02/2014 20:06

I'm no expert weza but from what I have read the massaging motion is what makes most of the difference brings the blood to the surface etc and to help that along body brushes can be bought for a very reasonable price.. Another good tip I read about is that food based oils and creams are a better option as they are absorbed by your skin easier and don't just sit on the surface... Alternatively I have friends that swear by nivea q10 and swear that it is as good as bio oil but at under a tenna for a bottle that is more than double the size is better value.

To be fair as long as you are keeping your skin soft and moisturised and massaging the lotion in to encourage blood flow it will help with the elasticity of your skin. Smile

Personally I've always used both bio oil and Palmers coco butter on my belly every day 2ce a day throughout all my pregnancies and so far have not had a single stretch mark on my stomach - however I neglected to do the same for my legs and boobs and have stretch marks on both Confused

mszeen · 09/02/2014 20:14

Ahh thank you Owly - According to my bmi I am 3 and a half stone overweight 29.7 bmi Shock Realistically though I would be happy being 2and a half stone lighter lol or anything lighter than how I started this pregnancy Grin I started both my previous pregnancies much lighter than I am now and put on 4stone with the first and 3stone with the secondBlush considering they were both around the 6lb mark when they were born it was an awfully large amount of weight to put on Shock .. I just know that I cannot afford to put on that amount with this pregnancy I would be huuuuuge Grin

Owlysims · 09/02/2014 20:20

Mszeen my dd was also only 6lb so no excuse for the excessive weight gain!! I did lose the weight within a year of dd's birth (unfortunately put on a stone in between her turning 1 and 3!! Hence why I'm a stone overweight!!) but still I remember that feeling of being very overweight (I was actually classed as just obese when I first weighed myself after having her Shock) I would ideally only like to put on a stone but I feel that's VERY unlikely and am dieting as don't want to put baby's health at risk for my own vanity! But I am trying to eat healthily and limit treats but hard to remember sometimes Grin

How is to going for you this time? Better?

Secretlypregnant · 09/02/2014 20:25

Good luck for tomorrow Owly!

I used bio oil throughout last time and got no stretch marks. From what I've read, it seems to be largely genetic, but I say why take the risk? And I am sure any moisturising oil would do, but bio oil does smell completely lovely. Smile

I have felt properly well and normal today! It has made me realise how long it is since I felt like myself. Please please let this continue!

HungryHorace · 09/02/2014 20:32

Good luck tomorrow, Owly. :-)

I've got bucket loads of Bio Oil as it was on offer when I was pregnant with DD and mum bought me a couple of large bottles. It goes a bloody long way too.

I didn't really get many stretch marks though, it has to be said. I've got more on my back from growing too fast as a child than from pregnancy!

I suppose I should start using it again.

As for weight, I'm heavier than pre DD. Next Feb I'm planning on doing intense weight loss again. I lost 2 stone in 3.5 months a few years ago, so will do the same as I did then to get back in shape as my baby making years will be over once this baby comes along. :-)

Owlysims · 09/02/2014 20:40

Thanks guys!!

And Crikey hungry that's a lot of weight in a small amount of time! Well done you! Smile

Thatsnotmyfigure · 09/02/2014 21:00

Good luck for the scan tomorrow Owly and everyone else this week too! Thanks for the buggy info hungry too!
I also got tearful at the Winter Olympics - seems that's a universal pregnancy symptom then?!
Just trying to get up the courage to call my friend who's had loads of failed IVF - really nervous :(

MrsBri · 09/02/2014 21:07

That's a tough call to make, Thatsnot. Good luck.

I'm sure your friend will be happy for you. :-)

mszeen · 09/02/2014 21:24

so far I have been feeling really very sick and have unintentionally lost 3lb in the first few weeks.. not something i would advocate or recommend Confused but to combat this I have downloaded a calorie counter and (after using the benedict equation to find out my average calorie needs) i make sure that I am eating my full calorie quota each day..
Now I am feeling a little better I am going to try to make sure those cals are made up of more healthy foods than rather than just 'whatever i can stomach' - obviously balance is key and i wouldn't exclude anything from my diet (partly because i do not have enough will power) - I am also going to try to include recommended pregnancy dvds into my routine ... so fx I will have a much healthier pregnancy Smile as I said before I work have 2 children and a part time degree so fitting it all in will be interesting... Grin

How have you been doing so far with your weight Owly?

mszeen · 09/02/2014 21:27

Wow my goodness hungry 2 stone in 3.5months Shock that must have been an intense weight loss regime! well done!

Owlysims · 09/02/2014 21:34

Only put on a couple of pounds so far (2 pounds last time I weighed, weigh again tomorrow) so doing well as had no sickness and been strong by not eating to combat nausea! Also kept up gym, had to drop it a little bit in last few weeks due to tiredness but still managed 2 times a week instead of usual 4. Starting to feel more like myself so hoping to up to 3 again throughout pregnancy. Sounds like you're doing fab! Well done! Especially as you're so busy!! Smile

mszeen · 09/02/2014 21:37

sorry Owly I just realised you said that you have put on a few pound... slow and steady but healthy weight is brill Wink - for me it was always eating for 2 (or 4) and not even good food! didn't even realise till this pregnancy that it is medically not necessary to up your daily cals until the 3rd trimester when they advise to up the cals by 200 per day only! Shock

mszeen · 09/02/2014 21:43

Thank you! Sorry for the xpost.. it is fantastic that you are keeping up the gym that is already a big achievement... haha I think any praise for me has to be suspended until at least a few months time when we see whether I can stick to anything I have planned to do Grin Grin I certainly didn't start this pregnancy a fit mummy or anywhere near so I know it will be need to be a continuous and conscious effort to keep on track Grin

Owlysims · 09/02/2014 21:53

Well you're going in the right direction and I think your blog would be great and love the title! Get writing!! Grin

Mitchell81 · 09/02/2014 22:23

Good luck owly for tomorrow, will keep you posted with my scan news which is just before yours.

travispickles · 09/02/2014 22:37

I too am really overweight and piled it on last time. But I feel so hungry and sick sometimes that I have to eat or I'm vomming again. When I wake on the night I feel really sick and end up eating toast or a banana. So in an ideal world you wouldn't up your calorie intake but its not choice iyswim?

travispickles · 09/02/2014 22:38

Oh and good luck with scans owly and mitchell

HungryHorace · 09/02/2014 22:39

Good luck tomorrow, Mitchell.

Secretlypregnant · 10/02/2014 00:30

Hope all goes well tomorrow, Mitchell!

UpQuarkDownQuark · 10/02/2014 06:59

Good luck today mitchell and owly. My scan is at 10am today too. Never been so excited and nervous all at the same time.

I appear to have lost 3lb which is good in some ways as I am v overweight but I am sick if being sick!
