Morning ladies,
I havr a quick question (probably for the teachers)....I run a Guide unit and was wondering if/when I should tell my girls. I'm 12 weeks and starting to show but can kind of hide it with baggy jumpers.
Good luck for the scans todaySmile .

mel0dy · 07/02/2014 09:55

2beornot- good luck!

Crazylady- I'm not a teacher or anything but my gut instinct would be a couple of weeks after telling friends and family

flymo79 · 07/02/2014 10:41

22honey, I'm not surprised it's an emotional time, enjoy it with your mum and I hope it can be joyful as well as bittersweet for her. I am feeling a bit of a wreck but for no other reason than hormones!! cried at the news this morning!
good luck for scan lynnieboo!

Cazbg · 07/02/2014 10:58

Congratulations to everyone's scans : ) Good Luck Lynnieboo and great news Finn.
I have a scan related question - I had the NT scan on Monday and they said if we were high risk we would hear in 3-4 days, so by today and we havent heard... so is it now safe to tell friends and work colleagues? what have other people done? I was to tell people but I am also feeling cautious (as has been a continuous theme in this pregancy - scared of tempting fate!).

flymo79 · 07/02/2014 11:20

Hi Caz - I understand they would have called you by now. Congrats on the scan!! Did you get a reading on the measurement?

Cazbg · 07/02/2014 11:21

yeah it was at 2.3mm but as we were already nearly 13 weeks she said this was pretty normal. (do people agree?)

Cazbg · 07/02/2014 11:23

Also I would like to join the facebook group - who should i send my details to? thanks

flymo79 · 07/02/2014 11:29

yes, definitely agree, I believe anything under 3.5-4mm is very normal!

HungryHorace · 07/02/2014 11:33

Has anybody else got slow-growing leg hair now? It happened with DD, so now I'm thinking girl!

Good luck for today's scans...and not long now, Owly! :-)

lucyfluff · 07/02/2014 11:37

Hi ladies, had a bit of a crappy booking in with new MW. She was so clueless on whats going on as my care is with one hospital and Im delivering at another. So couldnt have bloods done, apparantly I need to go to my hospital of delivery and have them done (where I dont know/who to contact re results??!) she didnt know either. Her actual words were google it!!!
Then she tried listening for heartbeat and couldnt find it Sad and now Im worried something bad has happened.

Im sorry for the mememe post just not feeling very positive after this morning!!!!

Hope everyone else is ok Smile

HungryHorace · 07/02/2014 11:55

Lucy, it's irresponsible (and maybe against guidelines) to try to listen for a heartbeat before 16 weeks. My MW friend thought a midwife on the recent BBC2 programme was stupid to try at 15 weeks.

Even at the 16 week appt they warn that they may not find it, but can't refer for a scan as it's normal for it to be tricky.

Please try not to worry.

And what a shambles. I'd ring the antenatal clinic at the hospital you're delivering at to ask for help.

Sorry it was crap. :-(

lucyfluff · 07/02/2014 12:06

Thanks for reply hungry...I couldnt believe when she said she was going to try (maybe she was doing it as student in too but you would hope its not something they should teach)?!

Hubbie is fuming and wants to complain. Im just sat here thinking I want my old midwife back!!!

Think I may call the hospital and get some advice it seems so unorganised and I cant cope with that!!!

flymo79 · 07/02/2014 12:17

sorry to hear you've had a bad morning Lucy, this is no time to be at the mercy of johnny (or janey) no-stars!! I have the same as I live in the middle of the countryside, I am with a community midwife for care and have chosen a big general hospital for delivery. The difference is I went straight to the delivery hosp. for booking-in. They explained that if I had any bloods taken by my community MW the results wouldn't come to them and I would have to chase them. I would ring your delivery hospital, let them know you've had a bad time of it and see what they can do. Taking bloods shouldn't need you to wait an inordinately long time, they should be able to do it quite quickly.
sorry again to hear of the nonsense.

2beornot · 07/02/2014 12:19

Lucy - I wouldn't worry about the heartbeat. Easier said than done, I know but it really is difficult to get when They are so little.

But the rest sounds like a nightmare!!!

PinaColadas · 07/02/2014 12:43

Cazbg if you want to email me your real name and email address also let me know what your pic is so I know its you and i'll add you :)

Hungry mine are quite the opposite, so i'm thinking boy. In my baby brain state I only shaved one last week haha!

Lucy Thats awful, I would certainly call the hospital, don't worry though, she sounds like that much of a doofus she probably would have struggled to find her own heartbeat!

mssleepyhead · 07/02/2014 12:51

Rubbish time with my midwife today too. Called about the spotting and they were completely uninterested. Just said go to the EPU. Considering trying to get a scan this weekend but terrified in case it's bad news. I don't want bad news...

flymo79 · 07/02/2014 13:00

mssleepy try not to panic, I'm sure brown is just old blood and you are so active, the cycling is probably just moving it around. I know it's upsetting to not have someone reassure you, hope you have more luck getting a scan and have some reassurance xxx

HungryHorace · 07/02/2014 13:03

Ha ha, Pina. Have you a hairy belly too (you don't have to answer!)? And shaving only one is good going!

Mssleepyhead, give EPU a call and see what they suggest. I'm sure it's all fine. Before 20 weeks it's always the EPU that deals with spotting, after that you'd be checked out and monitored by a midwife / doctor.

Lynnieboo · 07/02/2014 13:14

hi everyone.

I have been keeping quite for the last week or so as I have been reading about all these good scans and great news and I was soooo paranoid about mine I just didn't want to comment. I wanted to fade into the background and be forgotten. imagine my surprise to read that people remembered I had my scan today Shock .

Well I'm here and it was good. Babyboo wasn't moving about very much...think he was still sleeping. But saw heartbeat which was my first fear... and then I saw brain, arms, belly, hands, legs and feet. all there and the correct amount of each. I am so glad my hospital has an empty bladder policy because honestly with all the pressing and jiggling.... I would have wet myself.

NT was 1.7 so also good. All in all I would say it was a good morning. Staff were lovely and I was told my bloods results should be with me in a week to 2 weeks.

oh and I am 13+1 and my due date is now 14th August. I would be grateful if the next person to amend the list would change me too.

Good luck to all of next weeks scans.

can I join the Facebook group now? who should I PM?Grin

PinaColadas · 07/02/2014 13:20

Lynnie, Fabulous, congratulations PM me if you like, i've just added Caz :)

Hungry, yes! Extremely hairy, not like gorilla hairy but it's very strange, so it's going to be a boy isn't it?

lucyfluff · 07/02/2014 13:22

Haha pina!! yea she was a complete doofus Smile silly woman. Just rang hospital and left message to call me back about bloods so hoping they do soon!!

Mssleepy I would call EPU also, get some advice about it happening again. Im sure all ia fine and it seems to be the bike riding so maybe its just irritation. Good luck x

lucyfluff · 07/02/2014 13:23

My legs never get very hairy...maybe I am a freak!!!

HungryHorace · 07/02/2014 13:28

Piña, I had a hairy belly but slow growing leg hair with DD.

I don't think my belly is as hairy this time, but I still have slow growing leg hair.

Maybe it's just random!

And excellent news, Lynnie. :-)

PinaColadas · 07/02/2014 13:33

Oooh so there is no calling it then. I need to stop trying to guess and just accept the fact that I don't want to know.... Not really, honestly.

MissSleepyhead I hope you get into the EPU today, I don't think you need to worry with it being brown spotting but it would be great for you to get the reassurance you deserve.

HungryHorace · 07/02/2014 14:09

It's natural to guess, Piña! I spent a lot of time guessing, I just didn't actually want to know for sure! :-)

At the 20 week scan we thought we'd be tempted to find out, but once we had been told everything was OK, any temptation disappeared with the relief.

After showering I can confirm that my belly definitely isn't as hairy as last time!
