Thanks for the congrats and Mitchell - that makes compleat sense about the tights. I used to sell tights for a living and would often get newly pregnant women wanting tight control tights so people wouldn't think they were fat.

Sussex31 · 30/01/2014 13:31

Bah, can't believe I have come down with yet another cold. I am wrapped up in 2 blankets in front of an open fire yet I am still shivering.

On the upside I think I felt kicks for the first time yesterday (anterior placenta so a bit behind some of you) and I have the 20 week scan tomorrow.

On the topic of maternity wear, I have only bought 1 item so far, these jeans from Jojo Maman Bebe:

www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/sp+classic-wash-bootleg-maternity-jeans-in-maternity-jeans+a9900

They are superb! Really soft and comfy.

Junebabyjoy · 30/01/2014 16:03

Hi ladies, haven't posted on here in ages but though i'd share my amazing find with you all as I could now not live without! River Island leggings are the most maternity appropriate item of clothing ever, without even being actual maternity! I think they are supposed to be folded over at the top, but instead if you pull them right up they fit beautifully over bump, really comfy and supportive, I wear mine daily! My bump is huge for 22 weeks and I find a size 12 fits beautifully and at a tenner a pair you can't go wrong ;) so,so,so excited to meet my baby boy...yesterday's scan made me melt. Why does due date seem forever away!

SarahAnderson · 30/01/2014 17:43

Just had the scan. The sonographer was REALLY grumpy and when we asked about gender, she said the baby was '90% likely to be a girl, but we don't give guarantees'. When we queried what she meant, she just kept repeating the same thing. Anyone else had this sort of probability answer? We are confused now... Obviously we weren't after a guarantee but we can't tell whether she meant, "Basically, it's a girl, but as a general policy I never like to say it for sure" or "I couldn't really see properly, so this is a bit of a guess."

Feeling a bit flat about it if I'm honest!

Sorry to hear about your experience Sarah. I'd recommend going for a private gender scan. It is nice to have those precious extra minutes looking at your baby, as well as getting a proper answer on the gender.

Sussex31 · 30/01/2014 20:46

And welcome mummymidwife

MrsBon · 30/01/2014 20:50

Thanks jaykay and summerbaby :)

MrsBon · 30/01/2014 20:56

Sarah: Yesterday was my scan too.. The sonographer was quite nice n patient and took good time explaining the scan to us.. But when it came to revealing the gender she insisted that it was an 80% chance it's a boy.. She was very insistent its an 80% chance and not to paint the nursery blue. I think they say it this way so as to not be held responsible incase the baby turns out to be the other gender. Apparently that can happens sometimes..

Redcliff · 30/01/2014 22:05

Sarah - my scan was yesterday and we had a really disinterested sonographer although she did say we were having a boy. Do they not realise what an amazing thing this appointment is and that a bit of bedside manner goes a long way.

Redcliff · 30/01/2014 22:08

June and Sussex - thanks for the maternity wear tips - the jeans look amazing and some leggings for a tenner that are comfy - cant say fairer than that.

Welcome and congrats to you baby midwife

BaldHedgehog · 30/01/2014 22:09

Hello you chatty lot!Sadly I've got not enough time to keep up with you,a very active toddler takes most of my time.

Hope everybody's doing fine and getting good news at their scans.
Had mine today, everything's fine here so absolutely delighted.DH opted for not finding out the gender so we're getting a surprise again.EDD 24th of June but if it's the same late as DS I might end up with July baby.

Take care ladies :)

Redcliff · 30/01/2014 22:09

Should have read mummy midwife - sorry!

chestnutmare · 30/01/2014 22:23

Hi everyone! Had a babybond gender scan this evening, we're having a girl! And we get to go back for a free scan next week as the baby wasn't in a good position for photos, so looking forward to that!

It's my NHS 20 week scan tomorrow, hopefully everything will look ok there, feeling a bit less anxious about it now though Smile

Redcliff · 30/01/2014 23:28

Congrats Chestnut - that's wonderful news and lucky you getting another on for free.

SarahSPT · 31/01/2014 06:27

Hi everyone. Lovely reading all the progress stories and having gender scans. Our sonographer was very friendly but the midwives I've met so far haven't particularly - very much felt like I was just another number. Moving to north London in a few weeks though so looking forward to having a new team.

I'm 22 weeks today but I haven't felt any flutters for ages - anyone else? Bambino was going at it like mad for a while around 17/18 weeks but not much since. Had a scan at just over 19 weeks and all was fine (another booked in at 24 weeks) so I'm not particularly worried, but just wondered if that's normal?

chestnutmare · 31/01/2014 09:53

I think it's normal SarahSPT. I felt some movement at about 16 weeks then nothing for a while, although the past few days she's been going at it again! At my scan last night I was told my placenta was sitting at the front so I'd probably not feel as many movements until the baby gets a bit bigger, so maybe you're the same?

SarahSPT · 31/01/2014 10:13

Ah, maybe that's it then, thanks. I'm abroad at the moment and don't have a midwife to ask so am a bit clueless about these things!

noseymcposey · 31/01/2014 13:10

Do you know if you have an anterior placenta SarahSPT? I had that first time round and feeling movements was very sporadic throughout pregnancy.

SarahSPT · 31/01/2014 13:46

Absolutely no idea! I've been travelling since 13 weeks, had a scan before I left where they didn't mention anything, although I'll go and have a look at my maternity notes in case they've put it in there. I had a scan at 19 weeks in Laos just to check everything was fine and see the babba moving. I'm back in a couple of weeks and then a scan & midwife appt on 17th Feb so presume they'll have a poke around then. Am a bit more reassured though now thanks that that's what it could be. I'm feeling fine and normal too but if anything weird happens I can pootle down to the local hospital if needed.

mylittlel · 31/01/2014 15:31

ladies who under consultant led care can you please advise what to expect from the first appt? Thanks

Vickyvix · 31/01/2014 16:35

Thanks for the advice re leggings junebaby and congrats on your scan :)

redcliff sarah and mrsbon* congrats on your scans, glad all went well.

sarah 90% is pretty good isn't it? Maybe they were just covering themselves as others have said. Agree private gender scan might be worth it - they will purely focus on what you want to know.

Hi mummymidwife welcome to the thread :)

sussex sorry to hear you're feeling rough, hope you feel better soon

Yey, congrats on your little girl chestnut

I have to wait until Monday for scan - time is going so slow.....

Redcliff · 31/01/2014 18:21

I saw a consultant a few weeks ago and they just prodded my tummy, did a quick scan and asked me how I was feeling. Was there for about 5 minutes. It might depend why your seeing a consultant though - I am having shared care (midwife and consultant) so not sure if that makes a difference . Hope it all goes well.

BEEwitched · 31/01/2014 18:39

I think 90% is the standard number they like to quote when it comes to accuracy - what you think is a girl could have their little genitals tucked firmly out of sight, what you think is a boy could be a girl with the umbilical cord in an awkward position.

I don't think it happens this often these days, scans have become quite accurate, but there's still ass covering going on just in case!

cjbk1 · 31/01/2014 19:24

Now I remember what I was going to say;
Yes bits could be cord
Yes to anterior placenta no to difference
also wanted to say; seem to be feeling hard bits of baby when it's surely too early for that or is that the placenta? Blush
