You can hire the bed nest; £109 for six months -

www.nctshop.co.uk/NCT-Bednest-Rental-for-6-months/productinfo/4364R/

It comes with new fabric sides; makes it much more affordable. You'd sell a new one after 6 months anyway. We'll be getting one; it seems the best of all options to me, plus I love the design

sisterofcaleb · 25/01/2014 07:43

Forgot to say if you want to recreate the mesh barrier between yourself and the bed that the bednest has then you can buy an airwrap bumper:

www.tesco.com/direct/airwrap-air-cot-protection-system-2-sided/438-2844.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=438-2844&sc_cmp=pcp_GSF_Nursery%20Furniture_438-2844kpid=438-2844&sc_cmp=ppc_g_{keyword}_{matchtype}

They come for either 2 or 4 sides. They fit cot beds so they are long and you can just attach to the bars of the cot to cover the side that is open to the bed. We did that once my son got a little bigger and would have been even more useful if he stayed in with us longer.

We still use the airwrap bumper to stop his little flailing arms and legs going through the side of the cot and he is a big boy now at 18 months :)

Bumblebeesmum · 25/01/2014 09:17

Thank you sister and Eliza def going to look at those options!!

BEEwitched · 25/01/2014 10:23

Thanks for that, it loos fabulous!

That's the one I was looking at: www.amazon.de/FabiMax-Beistellbett-Babymax-Matratze-PROTECT/dp/B009WQFPJ4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1390575656&sr=8-1&keywords=anstellbett, it's very similar but a bit more expensive.

I love the look of this one, but it's just too small and expensive for what it is: www.amazon.de/babybay-Beistellbett-Baby-Bettchen-Original-extrabelüftet/dp/B00CKL7QH2/ref=pd_cp_by_3

NessieMcFessie · 25/01/2014 11:15

Hello all!

With DD we always tried to use a Moses basket for naps - it just didn't work - she always napped on me or in the bouncy chair. When she was 6-8 months she started going in her room.

We are off to collect a 'big girl' bed for her today and start the transition - from her cot - any tips appreciated!

Poetschild · 25/01/2014 12:42

Thank you for the co-sleeping recommendations! We're starting to panic about how much everything is going to cost. Or rather, I'm starting to panic and hubby is in his little dreamworld where he doesn't have to worry about these things.

Good luck Nessie - we found just leaving the bed up for a few days with DS still in his cot gave him some time to get used to it and he went in happily. The thing that made me laugh was that he wouldn't get out of it by himself - he would still wait for me as if he was still in his cot.

MarlenaGru · 25/01/2014 13:31

redcliff my DD was the same thankfully! I expected her to be up 20 times a night but she waited to be taken out thankfully! Nessie good luck.

Liquidambar · 25/01/2014 21:10

Great discussion on co-sleeping. DS never slept on our bed. DH was always against it because he always saw it as a potential risk. This morning I was telling him about the side cots and he said he wouldn't mind having that, because it seems much safer. Who knows what will happen this time around. If this little one feeds every three during the night hours I will definitely consider it.

I gave the majority of DS' clothes to my my cousins. I only kept his preem clothes - so tiny! Today, I decided to wash them (in case this little one arrives earlier as well)
and it was such an emotional moment.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend

hackneybird · 25/01/2014 23:05

Hello, haven't been on for a few days as also been sidetracked by the FB group - although I still get massively confused between MN names and real names! Also v busy at work and am trying to use devices less at night time as it has been disturbing my sleep (she says, typing on her iPad at 11pm!).

Husband and son were out all day today so I totally relaxed and did minimal housework. Really needed it as like everyone else I am exhausted. Although my house is filthy - mum is coming to stay in a couple of weekends and I'm going to have to get a cleaner in to do a blitz before she arrives, as I'm too tight to pay for one on a weekly basis.

I'm open minded about breast feeding and co sleeping. I'll see who turns up and how it all goes! DS was happy to sleep in his crib and I breast fed him til 7 months when he self weaned, but the new baby might not play ball. I'd rather not co sleep as I can't imagine one can sleep well when sharing with a baby but we'll see. Plus we only have a standard double so not really big enough - we'd have to get a side car cot.

hackneybird · 25/01/2014 23:10

liquid I totally get how emotional it must have been sorting your DS' baby clothes. In a peculiar way I am dreading going though my DS old clothes as I am prone to being maudlin and I know I'll only get all upset at how fast he is growing;)

On another thread about this subject I saw that once their children are grown a bit some mums use a service called 'baby to bears' - they have their most treasured old baby clothes made into teddies and I think that's a lovely idea. She has an FB page and the teddies are really nice, not naff at all as I had first feared!

MarlenaGru · 26/01/2014 08:45

Oh wow hackney that is a sweet idea!
I gave most of DD's clothes away but kept the most precious ones. It is always difficult looking at them for so many reasons.

GillyBillyWilly · 26/01/2014 08:53

Just marking my place as the thread jumped off my active thread list!
I'm always lurking but forget to post! Hope everyone is well Smile

We had a cot blanket made from DS's baby clothes. It is a lovely keepsake, hoping to find a similar company this time too.

Jessiebaba · 26/01/2014 10:25

18 weeks and I'm definitely feeling the little one wriggling about in there! Grin He/she was very good at keeping me awake in the cinema last night when I was seriously regretting going to see a 3-hour long film!

Redcliff · 26/01/2014 15:15

Really shattered today - friend cane over yesterday and we took her DS and mine to a nearby forest. It normally takes us an hour to get there on the bus but in her car it took15 mins - hooray. Stayed up late. DS up at 7.15 and then trip to Ikea with boys this morning thanks to DP. All I want to do is sit on the sofa but have promised DP

Stacks · 26/01/2014 16:33

The cosleeping discussion was interesting, but if you decide to read up on it you really have to look carefully at what studies are quoted and how well they've been summarised. That bbc article is a case in point, though the research done was useful, the conclusions drawn were a bit scare mongering. Here's unicefs response, if you're interested.

www.unicef.org.uk/BabyFriendly/News-and-Research/News/UNICEF-UK-Baby-Friendly-Initiative-statement-on-new-bed-sharing-research/

I got lots of my clothes for DS from my sister, so they didn't really have the same emotional tie I think. It's amazing to look back at how small he was though!

CleverOl10 · 26/01/2014 17:11

Ordered our pram today. Didn't want to spend too much so really pleased that this just cost £250 - the xpedior from Mothercare. Got it in plum!

One job down....

Vickyvix · 26/01/2014 17:11

Hi ladies, have been away for a few days so still catching up. Went shopping today for beach holiday stuff - what a mistake! There's nothing in the shops as wrong time of year and I'm still finding any maternity clothes hideous and frumpy. Think I'll resort to online shopping instead.

Still on countdown to scan day....7 days and counting :)

CleverOl10 · 26/01/2014 17:12

Ooh and the car seat was included in that price!

Vickyvix · 26/01/2014 17:12

clever love the pram :) looks great

CleverOl10 · 26/01/2014 19:01

Thanks Vicky Grin
