Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
FoxMulder · 23/01/2014 10:44

So are you telling people you don't know the sex when they ask? I get asked a lot and I'm glad I genuinely don't know because I'm a terrible liar! Quite a few people think I do secretly know and am just not saying.

liberuna · 23/01/2014 10:54

dita yes do tell how it goes. Ive got my frst NCT on sunday. can't wait.
We've been told girl so name already picked but if boy comes out we're going to have to do so quick thinking! :)

Fox I love it. Why would people assume you are lying about knowing? and even if you are , that's your choice. Either way why then push for an answer?

to be honest i wish I'd said "i didn't know" as some reactions to the name has got me down. I've chosen the name, YOU have no say in it. I mean, fast forward a year and you introduce your child to people nobody blinks an eye so how come they have to share their thoughts about it now?!

oooo - that turned into a rant. Apologies! Blush

liberuna · 23/01/2014 10:56

On a separate (less ranty note) :)

Is anyone else on iron tablets/supplements? Having any side effects?

I've been having stomach problems since starting but don't know whether to call mw or not. :(

FoxMulder · 23/01/2014 11:34

I really don't know lib. People just seem to love to 'catch me out' and go 'aha, you said he, you know!'. It's pretty annoying.

That's exactly why I've been advised to keep names to ourselves because everyone will have an opinion on it now, but once baby is actually named no-one would dare say anything horrible. The last couple of babies I have heard about I've not liked their names but obviously I said 'aahh, that's lovely', as one should!

I have a liquid iron supplement that I taken on-and-off. Not noticed any side effects, but I don't remember to take it regularly.

mrsmugoo · 23/01/2014 12:35

Fox I hate the speculation too - I have been a bit upset about it as everyone is so convinced we're having a boy, not one person has ever entertained the idea that it's got a 50% chance of being a girl. All based, i think, subconsciously on the fact my SIL has just had a girl and it would be "convenient" for ours to be a boy so there's one of each.

If it is a boy (which I have NO preference over) I will HATE all the "i told you sos" we will get.

commsgirl · 23/01/2014 12:37

Lib have you tried Spatone? It's supposed to be gentler on your system than others.

I'd like to think that once baby's here and we introduce her to people they'll keep their opinions to themselves re her name but who knows. We love it so that's all that really matters, you'll never please everyone.

commsgirl · 23/01/2014 12:39

Mrs we're having the same from people except that we know she's a girl (or so the two scans we had told us!). People can just be really insensitive.

DitaVonCreamTeas · 23/01/2014 13:25

I second Spatone; it's great, no side effects at all - apart from being fairly expensive and heavy to drag home from the shops. I've got mild to moderate anaemia and I definitely feel better, but we'll see what my next blood test shows.

lumpylumps · 23/01/2014 14:31

With Ds1 we found out but didn't tell. Everyone was predicting girl. They were convinced. Made me laugh at their fool proof ways of knowing!!

Bump all at front, low down, hair and skin fab

We've told a few people our name choice but not everyone. I hate that some people think it's their right to know!

Had a mum to be massage this morning then came home and slept. It was amazing!! I want one every day!

PainAuxRaisins · 23/01/2014 17:52

I'd like to big-up the Spatone too (and Feroglobin) - it's the only thing getting in me into the office at the moment. Borderline anaemic so not bad enough to go on the yukky super-strength pills just yet (phew). I take 2 Spatone sachets per day, each with OJ, and it's definitely helping but as others have said it's very expensive. Lumpy I am very Envy of the maternity massage - I'm guessing they put you face down on one of those massage tables with the hole cut out for the bump (I would be happy just to lie down on one of those for an hour, even without the massage!). So sick of lying on either side.

mrsmugoo · 23/01/2014 18:12

Haha yes PainAux I would definitely pay money just to lie on my tummy for an hour too!

IceNoSlice · 23/01/2014 19:31

I'd love a maternity massage too. If it's a good one - sounds like Lumpy's was.

In my last pregnancy I went to a hen do at a spa and had a massage but it wasn't very good - I don't think the girl was very experienced and seemed nervous. No special table, I was on my side. It was more stroking than massaging. I was very disappointed!

lumpylumps · 23/01/2014 20:01

I was on the floor on a made up bed with a beanbag. It was so comfy. I'm thinking I might0 start doing that here. Stuff the bed!!

dizhin79 · 23/01/2014 22:47

ah a massage would be fab, will have to make do with oh doing them I fear!!

I have finished all my outdoor work Woooo hoooo! am now a desk monkey for the

dizhin79 · 23/01/2014 22:48

Ooops!...... next 5weeks Grin

so glad to be desk bound as our also means I'm home based too yeyyyyyyyyGrin

OwlinaTree · 24/01/2014 07:42

Maternity leave officially starts in one month for me! 3 more actual weeks of work after today!!

Still loads to do tho.

DitaVonCreamTeas · 24/01/2014 08:04

Reporting back from 1st NCT class last night; 6(?) other couples who seemed perfectly nice, friendly session leader, nice and relaxed, good information which didn't seem to have too strong an agenda (so far), DH said 'it made him think about a lot of things' (bless), and there were chocolate digestives. We were impressed.

liberuna · 24/01/2014 08:18

fox dita comms & pain thanks for the recommendations. Was told to see GP today as my symptoms are a bit extreme. Hopefully they'll give me something lighter or I'll find out its not pill related.

Boiler stopped working last night so can't bathe. Might pop in to gym and use the shower there on way to doctors.

Nice to know there are normal people out there dita can't wait for my class

puggywug81 · 24/01/2014 10:33

Sounds like a success dita any place that gives choc digestives is a winner for me!
I've just found out my iron levels have dropped drastically so I start my iron tablets today, 5 weeks if work left for me.

mrsmugoo · 24/01/2014 10:59

Hi everyone, bloody glad it's Friday - I'm going to spend the entire day on the office sofa and all the staff can bring me teas all day!

Life seems to be a merry-go-round of work/eat/sleep repeat x5 then 48 hours of not moving from the sofa. How people do this with toddlers is beyond me - I take my hat off to all the 2nd/3rd etc.. time mums.

We are getting more and more organised for the baby though - Uppababy Cruz pushchair is still on order, everywhere has sold out of the black one. We have carrycot attachment, car seat and all the clothes now. Just need changing stuff, hospital bag stuff and moses basket.

AND we've decided sod it, we are getting a new car. Ours is a money pit at the moment and we're fed up of spending chunks of money on it constantly to get it fixed. Plus is doesn't have isofix anchors. We're getting an estate car next haha!

dizhin79 · 24/01/2014 11:00

Hope the iron tablets kick in quickly for you, puggy.

I am attempting to not succumb top a cold, not had one since 2nd trimester, when I had loads Sad

Positive thinking though Grin

mrsmugoo · 24/01/2014 11:04

Oh god - sorry to all those with sniffles :(

Touching wood I can avoid too - only had one cold so far and it knocked me for 6!

FoxMulder · 24/01/2014 11:04

Oh, I wish we had an office sofa mrs that would be ace!

I'm going bedroom furniture shopping this weekend, then I can offload my old crap on the baby. Grin

mrsmugoo · 24/01/2014 14:56

I know, it's a godsend! Compared to all the faceless big corporate offices I've worked in in my time, this little office is pretty much a home from home.

I actually nodded off here yesterday!

mrsmugoo · 24/01/2014 16:43

I'm passing the time this afternoon doing a spot of online shopping for potential clothes for after birth - tight/stretchy/high-waisted trousers to cinch everything in. Nice big floaty shirts to skim over the tummy and bum area!

Quite exciting to think about life where I have more choice of what to wear than the scraggy 4 tops / 2 bottoms I am rotating now.
