We didn't have the screening last time with dd and won't this time. We felt we wouldn't want to the test after that carries mc risk and wouldn't do anything if baby had downs anyway so no point really... Have to do whatever feels best for you and dh

QueenOfGeeks · 10/01/2014 14:08

Hope everyone else with scans today is getting good news.

Fee hang on in there and try to relax (easier said than done I know)

We were going to have the nuchal scan last time but when it came to the time we were a bit late and baby was too big and they said they couldn't do it, so we had to have the bloodtest instead. I was 38 and expected it to come out high, but came back low risk. Not looking forward to explaining that as it was FET it's not my age now they have to take into account but the age I was when they were Frozen, but we are planning to have the test this time.

Had scan this morning and all fine, so will have booking in with Midwife on Monday.

flymo79 · 10/01/2014 14:17

oh mitchell I'm so sorry for your loss. what bittersweet news for you being pregnant again. The midwife will understand if you become upset at booking in. Hope this is a healthy pregnancy for you and bean xxxxx

Pina, it sounds like you and DH will be very low risk and therefore if you don't want to have the test there doesn't seem a reason to do so

Hi, I was DinkyFrinkbuster but fancied a new year name change!

Had my 12 week scan today. We did opt for the screening. Agree with the poster who said that Downs is one thing, but the screening test also looks for Edward's and Patau's (trisomy 18 and 13), which are another matter altogether.

Anyway, nuchal looked good but I won't fully relax until the combined result comes through. And then I will chill out for maybe half an hour before beginning to fret about the 20 week scan!

BunnyBaby · 10/01/2014 15:00

Glad to hear the booking ins are all starting now.

We're having screening, but wouldn't terminate any condition, we have two friend with babies who had heart conditions and wouldn't have survived natural labour had the conditions not been detected early. The way we see it, any adult or child can have their 'good health' ended in real life, at any point, we would be happy with whatever hand we are dealt.

I remember being hurt after MMC when people said 'oh well, baby could have had problems', as we were thinking, 'so what? We'd have still loved him/her exactly as the others'.

So sorry Mitchell that you're not looking forwards to the booking in, and so sorry for your DD, I'm sure this little one has an extra angel looking after him/her.

Fee, hope today is a better one, also, can they make you redundant when pg? Worth looking into.

Congrats to all the successful scans too :-)

flymo79 · 10/01/2014 15:04

congrats on the scan toothy!

Hi Ladies, I'm going to have to admit defeat...only managed 4 days of work. Just couldn't face another day fighting MS while trying to work Sad . The bus journey to and from work isn't helping either. I know I shouldn't really complain as I'm not actually getting sick but feeling nauseous all day is reall taking it out of me.
On a happier note, I have my 12 wk scan date. it's the 7th Feb. I don't know how I'm going to wait that long to tell everyone. I'm sure they can guess already as my stomach is showing already. I don't know how I'm going to keep hiding it Wink .
Good luck for those having scans. And fx/huggs for those that are spotting.

dontsqueezetheteabag · 10/01/2014 15:46

Hello there ladies!

I am 10 + 2 had my booking in and my scan is on 28th January... dunno if I can wait that long!!!!

All fine so far - nausea is bloody awful but have only been sick once which has been good. I find eating little and often helps. I tend to feel sick if I am hungry. Got an hour and a half comute to work so I have armed myself with water, boiled sweets, chewing gum, etc to do anything I can to prevent myself from being sick.

Starting to pop out a bit - porbably not noticeable but I am starting to feel a bit nervous about being outed!

The family all know but am waiting until after our scan to tell everyone else.

Good luck to all you ladies having your scans over the next couple of weeks!

KitKatChick · 10/01/2014 16:21

I'm glad I'm not the only one without a scan date (or booking in appointment for that matter). I'm checking the post as soon as I walk through the door but nothing so far. I've spoken to the hospital on Monday to make sure they've got my details which they do so just hoping I'll get a date soon as I'm 10+5 today.

I'm a bit unsure about the nuchal scan too. I was always thinking it was for downs only. I haven't discussed it with dh, I think it hasn't even crossed his mind yet. Will have to bring it up with him one day as it's for both of us to decide. I'm thinking I wouldn't want to terminate no matter what....

LakeOfDreams · 10/01/2014 16:28

Maybe MS is making me slightly slow. The Nuchal fold they check the fat on the back of the neck via ultrasound and take bloods. If your results come back as high risk is that when they recommend the amnio? It's only with the amnio or CVS tHat there is a risk of MC? If you come back as high risk could you refuse the amnio or CVS?

My DH doesn't want to know at all and thinks we shouldn't try to find those things out in advance and I'm just confused by the whole thing.

I've been trying to read all about it on the NHS website but don't seem to be able to get it, too tired today!

HungryHorace · 10/01/2014 16:38

That's right, Lake. :-)

Abimci · 10/01/2014 17:27

Good work on the appointments everyone. I've had no such luck. Saw my gp 8 days ago and still haven't had a letter from hospital to sort out booking in. Just called gp who confirmed they referred me on 2nd Jan so I just have to wait to hear from hospital. Would really like to know when I'll be booking in and having my first scan so I can start telling people if all good. I'm finding it so hard to keep secret, 3 people from work guessed at our Christmas do since I wasn't drinking and they didn't believe my headache story for a second. Next weekend is my birthday so I either don't go out or don't drink, but either way it's suspicious!

I had to read a lot about this screening business too, all quite confusing for a first timer! But we've decided to get the risk factor based on nuchal fold and then decide about other tests. You just have to do what's right for you though I guess.

Good luck with spotting/scans everyone. Hope you all have a good weekend Smile

FizzyPinkWine · 10/01/2014 18:03

We won't be having the nuchal screening. We didn't last time, so won't this time! Luckily DH and I both agree that it wouldn't change anything for us so why bother!
So glad it's Friday, although once I got into the week it flew by and was actually quite enjoyable! I did ensure I had plenty of food around all the time. If I'm full the morning sickness isn't so bad.
Had my booking in last Sunday. Scan is on 21st - can't wait!

WeeJo08 · 10/01/2014 18:11

Uughhhhh. Worst day so far. Feel so nauseous. Horrendous (TMI) diarrhoea. Supposed to be going to the rugby tonight, have been looking forward to it for ages, but genuinely wouldn't be able to stand for 5 minutes, let alone 80!

Luckily DH called one of his good friends & he's going to go but we were supposed to be going with BIL, SIL, etc and so the rumour mill will be in full swing now that they've heard I'm unwell! SIL already asked MIL if I was expecting as I didn't have mulled wine on Christmas Eve. Sounds stupid but it really p*ssed me off that she asked MIL. It really put MIL on the spot & she had to lie as she wanted to protect us. I mean surely SIL could've thought for a second - hmmm, hang on a minute, she's either pregnant or not & she hasn't told us so maybe...I DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW!!!!!

Yes. So in case you hadn't noticed, I'm nauseous, tired, have diarrhoea and I might be a teensy weensy ickle bit hormonal! Grin

Hope scan goes well Lucy - I think it was around about this time tonight. Hugs, fingers crossed & positive vibes x

lucyfluff · 10/01/2014 18:26

Feelingfatty · 10/01/2014 18:44

Ah great news Lucy!!

CountdownBegins · 10/01/2014 18:49

Woo Lucy!

FEEdec · 10/01/2014 18:57

Hi ladies
Hope you are all ok? Just to give an update. I'm still bleeding and it's bright red now with little clots so I think things are happening. I'm actually not feeling too sad at the moment more frightened by what it's going to be like than anything else.

Bunny- in answer to your question. I'm on a fixed term contract so won't be made redundant. I was hoping it would've extended or there'd be another study I could work on after this one ends but we've been told there won't be anything. Gutted really as my job suits me perfectly!

lucyfluff · 10/01/2014 19:13

oh Fee I feel really insensitive posting about my scan after reading your post Sad Im so sorry that your bleeding has got heavier. I just want to say there are some lovely wise ladies in body/soul if you need any help or advice. Take care xx

HungryHorace · 10/01/2014 19:15

Yay, Lucy, that's great. :-)

FEE, I really hope it isn't an MC. ((((Hugs))))

How long was your contract? They still have to follow dismissal procedures even if it was fixed term, I think.

Feelingfatty · 10/01/2014 19:16

Oh fee I'm so sorry to hear that. It sounds like you are being very level headed about it all which I think I would find very difficult so well done. It still might not be the end, I suppose only the scan will tell you that. Try to relax as much as possible over the weekend Thanks

CountdownBegins · 10/01/2014 19:17

Oh Fee so sorry to hear that- were you able to go to the EPU or would you rather wait it out until Monday? Hope your partner is with you- I know how horrible it is when you see that bright red blood. I have heard of many people that bleed and everything goes on to be fine but I know it's hard to think like that when its you going through it. Fingers crossed for a positive outcome and I will be thinking of you.
