Thinking of you Fee, sending positive vibes xx

Definitely felt movement last night in bed Grin Glad I did cos I was feeling shocking all evening and realised I'm really overdoing things dashing about everywhere and need to slow down.

Feelingfatty · 10/01/2014 08:37

Good luck with your scan Lucy Thanks

flymo79 · 10/01/2014 09:05

so much happening! am sorry to hear you're still bleeding fee, really hope it stops and your scan on monday brings good news. Hope you have a restful weekend.
Good luck for scan tomorrow FF, and today Lucy.
Well done on the job NTB, don't feel you have to tell them until it suits you.
cakentea that's a refreshing surprise, I'd quite like a male MW!!!

Work is a bit stressful at the mo, I'm really wishing my life away until I get my scan. Hoping that next week rushes by and then we're in the 20s of Jan and the scans will come rolling in!

happy friday everyone

Ooh yes, cakentea. I forgot about your male midwife. My community midwife was female, as was the midwife who delivered dd but my after care was with a male midwife. Made no difference to me, even discussing womanly things! I drew the line at him checking my stitches (although tbf I never asked anyone to check them!)

lucyfluff · 10/01/2014 09:31

Thanks for the well wishes guys ...Im bricking it tbh Sad trying to stay busy today to keep my mind off it....must.stay.positive!!!

Feelingfatty · 10/01/2014 09:43

HungryHorace · 10/01/2014 09:53

FEE, I hope you're ok today. Sorry everything is so crappy right now.

Lucy, good luck with your scan. :-)

I'm so tired today. Bloody weird dreams were keeping me awake. :-/

I think I felt baby romping round earlier too. Bonkers.

HungryHorace · 10/01/2014 09:54

Oh, my cousin had a male midwife last time. She said he was great.

flusteredmumto2 · 10/01/2014 11:10

Not posted at all since my first one as its been a very hard time with a lot of medical problems and DP still in shock and not exactly jumping for joy. But I'm 8 + 3 and I have my first midwifes appointment today and even though I've seen peanut a couple of times its starting to become real. I have been so sick and tired bit avoid certain foods that make the sickness worse ( milk and meat) bleaurgh. I will try and post a bit more. Stay well ladies.

flymo79 · 10/01/2014 11:25

Thinking about all the ladies bleeding and having scans, hoping everything is ok.

Finally had my booking in appt today, I'm 10+6 and my scan is booked for 22nd Jan very exciting.

The only thing i've come away feeling unsure about is the screening for downs, I feel like I don't want to do it because if anything was found I don't think i'd do anything about it, after all we have been through I don't know if we could. But DH feels differently. Tas anyone else thought about the screenings?

2beornot · 10/01/2014 11:54

Piña - we have declined the nuchal screening too, for the same reasons as you (plus I cba with the faffing over the blood test after). I presume though that they'd tell us if there were other abnormalities associated (another thread got me thinking - lady had a high nuchal score plus heart defects and I wondered what I would be told in that case?)

lucyfluff · 10/01/2014 11:59

Feeling - Im 8 weeks today Smile close to you!!!

Pina - You can decline any of the screenings its entirely your decision, a close friend of mine did exactly that and she had a gorgeous baby girl Smile I think its a very personal choice!

Ive just told my mum.....eeekkkk....over the phone too!!! She is in Norfolk so miles away from me in the south and i really wanted her to know! She was happy but also thinks Im nuts having four Confused hehe!!!!

wejammin · 10/01/2014 12:21

we've declined screening and did last time too. A good friend of mine had so much stress from screening and amino that it really put me off, and we wouldn't do anything if baby had downs anyway.

Secretlypregnant · 10/01/2014 12:23

Pina, we are having the nuchal screening. But we both have strong feelings about it, so it made it an easy choice. The blood test results should be in their hands by the day of the scan so we should get a result there and then. I'm quite nervous about it because of my age, and I really feel that I want to get the results before telling anyone.

I think that it's a hugely personal choice, as lucyfluff says. For me, the most key thing has been talking about what our decision would be in different scenarios, and being agreed on that (at least in principle). That is then a guide as to whether to have the test or not.

A friend of mine knew that she would keep the baby whatever, but wanted to be prepared for what the future might hold. Having the tests meant that she felt more ready than she would otherwise have done, if that makes sense?

Secretlypregnant · 10/01/2014 12:27

2beornot If you have declined the nuchal test, do they still take the measurement and just not tell you the result, then? I had assumed that they just wouldn't take that measurement?

flymo79 · 10/01/2014 12:34

hey Pina, my scan is 21st and I am 11+1 today, me and dp decided to go for the nuchal fold test as we wanted to know either way, although we didn't go so far as to talk about what-ifs, we both just felt strongly that we'd want to know. It's totally personal though, what do you mean by DH feels differently?

OP posts:
HungryHorace · 10/01/2014 12:49

We've declined the screening and did last time too.

We wouldn't even have an intrusive blood test let alone act in any other way if we were shown to be high risk, so there's no point, in our situation, having the tests done.

But it's personal choice in the end, and there's no 'right' thing to do.

Hi flustered. I hope you're starring to relax a little more now.

I took DD out to the shops earlier. Knackered now. Ruined any health benefit of walking by having a couple of sweet waffles on my return as I felt faint! Oops.

PinaColadas · 10/01/2014 12:59

Thanks for everyones feed back, it's useful to see how others deal with it.

Flymo DH feels like he would consider not continuing with the pregnancy, I totally understand that, but also feel like after everything thats happened I don't know if I could go through with it.

DH suggested having the initial scan and then if the result wasn't good then said we could pay for a private screening (we were told about when we went for early scan) This private screening isn't available on the NHS but comes with no risk of MC like the NHS one does (1 in 100 MW said)

I just feel like I don't want to even have anything, it's just one more thing to worry about. I don't know what risk factors there are but there is no family history and I'm 26.

Mitchell81 · 10/01/2014 13:05

7+5 today, booking in appointment is on Monday. Not looking forward to it as will have to discuss my dd and I still get very emotional talking about her. (Our 12 year disabled daughter passed away a year ago on the 4th January).
MS started last weekend and started being sick last night. Yuk thought I was getting away with not actually being sick. Can't wait for my first scan, no date yet.

2beornot · 10/01/2014 13:11

Secretly - I don't know to be honest. It's just I presume if they saw something else they'd still say that it is linked. I'll talk to sonographer I think.

Ruggle · 10/01/2014 13:20

I've declined screening. The results of the nuchal test are heavily weighted by your age, and I'm 39, so am high risk no matter what the result of the nuchal fold measurement.

Ruggle · 10/01/2014 13:28

Secretlypregnant, they shouldn't do the measurement unless you give consent.

Shakshuka · 10/01/2014 14:05

We're definitely doing the Harmony test. I'm not 100% sure what I'd do for Down's but either way I'd want to know and then gather all the info I can to make a properly informed decision.

And it's not just Down's - it's also the more rare conditions like Edwards, Patau and some others which can be detected and are considered more severe than Down's (for eg 90% of babies born with Patau or Edwards die in the first year). I'll be 40 when I deliver so my relative risk is high and I want to know as much as possible beforehand. I'm so glad that this new blood test is available or I'd have done a CVS.
