Ruggle · 15/01/2014 13:06

My step d is Oct born and in reception. She is easily smart enough to have gone straight into year 1, and in some ways babies herself down to match the majority in her class. I think kids at both ends are slightly disadvantaged.

PinaColadas · 15/01/2014 13:17

Ooh Ruggle I'd never actually thought of it like that!! Food for thought and to throw in the next person's face who says to me 'ooh they might struggle at school' (had a few people saying that, people are quite rude IMO!!)

Jenbee1 · 15/01/2014 13:21

We probably have a biased view as Dh is a late August birthday and he started as the eldest in the class for the first year, then skipped a year and went in as the youngest in the third year, which has done him no favours what so ever. So if we can hold ours back we probably will

travispickles · 15/01/2014 13:29

Hear hear! My dss (partners son) is August born and is case in point for the kid who needed another year before school. He is v immature and was babied terribly. But my dd is January born and at preschool now (3 in two weeks) but is so bright and would easily be ready for school next sept but will have to wait another year. Totally depends. Apparently in Finland children all go to school on their 6th birthday!

Feelingfatty · 15/01/2014 13:29

One person who knew I was trying (she also is) but I haven't told her we got lucky yet said 'the good thing to come out of not getting pregnant this month is at least we won't have august babies'...awkward when I tell her ha haGrin

travispickles · 15/01/2014 13:36

Ok just checked that and on Finland they start school at 7. Sorry!

PinaColadas · 15/01/2014 13:37

Oops thats awkward!

One thing that makes me uncomfortable is hearing friends saying 'we are going to stop using contraception in January because we want a baby born in October', or 'We are going to do it in Ibiza in July because we want the baby in Spring' (true story) Becuase ok some people have it easy, but from what i've heard about how people have trouble TTC or losing babies I don't think some people realise how it's not always a one time thing, the Ibiza lady made me smile because I thought she might not even be in the right place in her cycle to even get pregnant while she is in Ibiza...

Although saying this I do know some lucky people who got caught straight away so maybe I'll stand corrected. It puts a lot of pressure on yourself though I think, from the off!

travispickles · 15/01/2014 13:37

Actually with the exorbitant cost of childcare, I am delighted that I will pay one year less nursery fees!

HungryHorace · 15/01/2014 13:39

I'm a November baby and could read and count to 100 before I started school. They wouldn't let me move up though, so I ended up bored and not challenged.

It really is all individual, so it's probably best to see how our babies are. :-)

7?! Do they go to nursery before then as a matter of course?

WeeJo08 · 15/01/2014 13:58

We're from Northern Ireland and we moved back home from London last January just after DD was born - here the cut off is end of June, so for us it will be the opposite situation, i.e. an August baby means the eldest in the school year. I am a September baby myself so I was always quite old for my year but not the eldest. DD is a December baby so she'll be pretty much in the middle. Also, in first year at primary school here children don't do a full day until Halloween - it's a few hours every few days to start with, then gradually moving up the hours and the days.

Re: my appointment for those of you who recommended I call today - I did this morning and they said that if I need any screening or further tests they'll just get me to come back....I'm happy enough with that!

flymo79 · 15/01/2014 14:06

I'm with travis - school is free! childcare isn't!

Hi Ladies!

I've been lurking waves to the Jan TTC bus gals but feel (almost) ready to join this thread Smile

This was cycle 5/6 for us - I had a weird stint in limbo-land where my last AF was 11th November, and then lots of BFNs along the way until I finally got my BFP on Sunday! SO I don't know if I am 8 weeks along, or just skipped a period in the middle and newly pregnant from a new cycle??
Although I don't think it would have shown up on the test that early if I'm only just pregnant.

Anyway, have dating scan booked at the EPU tomorrow morning. Just so hope that the prolonged lack of a BFP doesn't mean something's wrong!
This is baby #3 for us, and with both of my ds' it showed up straight away.

Doesn't get any easier, does it?! Grin

PinaColadas · 15/01/2014 14:24

Welcome LH1981 enjoy seeing your bean tomorrow! :)

lucyfluff · 15/01/2014 14:30

Good to see you LH Smile (waves back!!!) hope all goes well for you tmrw at the epu. You must be going crazy wondering how far you are!!

Ive sat in all afternoon waiting for a lady to sign a childcare contract and she still isnt here Sad

CountdownBegins · 15/01/2014 14:31

Hello ladies- all this school chat has scared me! I want to enjoy the tiny baby phase first before I worry about school ha! But saying that we put an offer in on a house this morning which we love and I made sure we checked what the local schools are like just in case... There are so many different things to think about when lookinh at houses now there is a baby to consider.

For the stats maybe if I start us off and we just copy and paste and add our own at the bottom? I can have a go at putting it into some order later on. Anyone else shout if they feel like doing it as it might take me a while!... I hope hollyjokes is OK, and yummymummyuk?

Name/age/DC?/due date(let me know if its wrong!)

HungryHorace · 15/01/2014 14:42

Holly has been on the Facebook page and is fine, Countdown.

I can't copy and paste on the iPad, if someone can do it for me?

HungryHorace, 37, DC2, August 14th

HungryHorace · 15/01/2014 14:44

LH, my last AF was 10th October, but I think I missed an AF and got pregnant in November, so am in this thread! I'll find out at the scan I suppose. :-)

lucyfluff · 15/01/2014 14:44

Just had booking in appointment, really interesting compared to others, 4 of us had a little presentation from midwife and bloods taken, then another appointment made for 2 weeks, then scan 2 weeks later. The lovely thing is that I will have the same midwife all the way through. As just out of area of preferred hospital (which is nearer to us distance wise than catchment one where I had DS2), I get all care at hospital.

Felt so nice to have Bounty pack, I just love all the little things x

Yay on all the scans, and hope everyone all well? I read all your posts, and try to think to reply, then can't remember names, may start opening reply box in new window, there has to be a trick to it doesn't there?
