I've got a couple of stretch mark creams. One is the cocoa butter, which as you may have found is very sticky and seems to make your skin sticky for hours. The other one is from Boots mediterranean range. I was given a gift set for expectant mothers and the cream was in it. It's less sticky but it does smell. I wouldn't buy it unless you are sure you like the smell. I think there is a bath foam which smells the same, so I'd advise taking the top off that in the shop and seeing what you think. I don't have stretch marks yet, so either the cream is brilliant, or the marks are about to appear any day now.

saralou100 · 08/08/2006 18:15

i just use coco butter from body shop which i use when not pg anyway, i never had stretch marks with ds but i did have them all over when i was bigger (went from a size 20/22 down to a size 10/12, lost over 6 & 1/2 stone in weight) so i think my skin is up to the stretch!! so far no signs of any either....

I slapped every stretch mark cream under the sun on when i was pg with DS and i still ended up with a road map to London on my stomach! I have a few now but not nearly as many as last time, theres plenty of time though!

I slept on my stomach all night last night, not purpously i went to sleep on my side but woke up flat on my stomach then got really freaked out incasei had hurt the baby but it seems to be moving ok today.

Im not doing a huge bbq for DP's birthday just the family in the back garden nothing huge! If not were going out t dinner somewhere i would like to book a hotel for the night but DS's burthday is a few days before so were short of money around then.

Hope everyone's ok today.

I use baby oil for stretch marks - seems to be working so far also I have read that stretch marks come from the inside, so apparently drinking loads of water is another really good way to avoid them - don't know how true that is but it's got to be worth a go cos it's cheaper than creams

camgirl · 08/08/2006 19:23

Hello all,

I'm a new member - been meaning to join for a while but am having an easier time at work at the moment, so finally got the time. I think I'm going to learn a lot here, am getting addicted already.

I'm due on November 4th, with my first baby. We're not finding out the flavour so have a lot of cream and yellow around. Haven't bought any nursery furniture, just cleared out the study in preparation and bought a few blankets and outfits.

I sympathise with a lot of the aches and pains everyone is having, especially the stitch type thing. Glad to know it's normal. Look forward to chatting to you all over the next few months.

saralou100 · 08/08/2006 19:47

hiya camgirl... and we shall have fun chatting with you too xx

Welcome Camgirl

eeyoreuk · 09/08/2006 05:19

Hi all
welcome Camgirl we are due on the same day.
I have been using Palmers cream since 12 weeks morning and night and so far i have not found any stretch marks i also ahve the bots on but find it really sticky.
My pain is still in my right side under my ribs and i struggle to sleep now but hay i only have 12 1/2 weeks to go now - it is strange when you realise how close it is getting.

for a birthday surprise why not take him back in time and do a childs theme party with jelly and ice cream and stuff we are all still kids at heart

talk later eeyore

podglet · 09/08/2006 08:12

Hi,

Welcome to Camgirl!

Hmmm, stretch marks - DP keeps kindly pointing them out (grrrr). I have the Boots cream which I love and am applying daily but I think I am fighting a losing battle. I grew so quickly in the first few weeks that I am beyond hope!

Got my bf's twins christening on Sunday - am really looking forward to it. It is in my old vilaage church so I will know lots of the old dears there and be able to cause a bit of gossip! (especially since DP won't come into the church but will wait outside as he is not a big fan of religion)

LadyAnne - hope you are feeling better and the move has gone well
Stacey - hope the wedding plans are coming together - if in doubt, make another list (I love lists!)
Eeyore - that's a really cool idea for a party - may store that up for DP's 40th - 4 years away!

Hope everybody else is ok

Thanks all for the welcome! I'm glad to know I have some due date twins.

I haven't noticed any stretch marks yet but am starting to check obsessively as I get bigger. I think it is partly hereditary and down to the type of skin you have, so will remember to ask my mum if she had any next time I see her.

staceym11 · 09/08/2006 09:38

morning everyone, am venturing out to take dd swimming today, poor cow is so scared of it but getting better since me and dp have been taking her at weekends, gunna get a pass and go twice a week, dont want her scared of water it aint fair on her poor mite!

Charlee · 09/08/2006 10:05

Morning, i didnt sleep at all last night only to be got up to a lovley letter from a debt collection agency working for British Gas who say i owe them £600 for a property we havent lived in for a year and when we did we were on a card meter! I have been on the phone growling at them this morning but they wont speak to me because its its DP's name. im soooooooo peed off!

On a lighter note baby is stretching its self loads this morining sideways so both sides of my stomach are being visably stretched sideways! its funny to watch.

Im also trying to eat healthier as i realside i wasnt eating at all well just latley so i brought a ton of fruit and veg yesterday whilst shopping, im a serial snacker so i figure if i snack on fruit and fill up on water it will be better for me and baby than my usual choccy biccys!

HopingCat · 09/08/2006 10:21

I am always snacking too, and am finding it quite hard to snack on good things. Crisps are much easier to buy at lunchtime than fruit. When I've been to a supermarket I've got yoghurts and fruit, but once they've gone I go back to the crisps and biscuits.

How easy is it to get back to your pre-baby weight? I have a wardrobe full of size 10 clothes. Can anyone tell me if I might be back in them by this time next year? I really don't know what to expect.

Tinasan · 09/08/2006 11:15

HopingCat, I was just wondering the same thing! I've already put on 1 1/2 stone and am now 10 stone - is this ok for 28 weeks? (haven't put on any weight for weeks but it's still quite a lot)...I'm normally an 8/10 and I look at my old clothes now and can't imagine how I'll get back into them! But everyone assures me that it will only take a few months. I've got a huge bump and boobs but am the same as always everywhere else so hopefully it won't take too long to go down!

Kif · 09/08/2006 11:25

sigh it was nine months up and eighteen months down to get back in shape with Dd1. And now i've gove and got pregnant again - so back to heffalump clothes.

Mind you, I didn't work at it at all. i think more realistic is nine months up nine months down.

Weirdly, I think I put on lots of weight after giving birth. I moved back home - and I heavily fell for the 'you need to eat well to make good milk' line. So I was putting away full three course meals, at a point when i was basically in bed the whole day with me Dd. I guess this time round I'll have to get back to being active quicker after the birth so perhaps will be better.

I tried to cut down on snacking a few weeks back (blush I have breakfast at home, but by 9.30 I would have gone down to the canteen for a second breakfast of ham and cheese croissant and cappuccino). However, I started getting very dizzy, so I now consider myself to be snacking for 'medical reasons'. .

Funny, I give Dh an apple for his snack at work, but I buy myself a Dairy Milk. Hypocrite? Moi?

Charlee · 09/08/2006 11:41

Lol Kif! DP takes rolls and several bags of crisps/choccy bars to work! I usually forget lunch and just graze through the cupboards! Today im making an effort to eat something slightly healthy! Im having a ham salad wholemeal roll and fruit (yawn)

I dont think i ever lost my wieght from having DS! I look alot thinner than my wieght, hard to explain but before falling pg i was size 12 yet i still wieghed about 13 stone

Im determined to try this time though, and am going to Breast feed which is ment to help. Maybe in our post natal threads we can help each other.

HopingCat · 09/08/2006 12:28

Tinasan - I've put on 1 1/2 stone as well and I'm 28 weeks. I did some internet research on this here and it looks from this like I should gain about 2 stone. I am sure I'll be over that soon, but I don't think there is much I can do about it now. I should have eaten less in the first few months perhaps. I don't eat as often now, but I do still have 2 breakfasts, one at work and one at home.

FoghornLeghorn · 09/08/2006 12:39

I have put on 2 stone already and i'm only 25 weeks. I was doing really well before the wedding and only put on 11lb until I was 20 weeks and now in the last 5 weeks I have put on over a stone. I don't eat alot during the day but at night time I get the serious munchies and just can't stop.
I weighed myself Sunday and the scales tell you what your BMI & Water is - NOT GOOD ! - Needless to say I am now on a healthy eating kick, no more 3 chocie bars per night for me.
I put on 3stone over all with DD and was determined I would only put on 2 this time.....I don';t seem to have put weight on all over though. I was huge with DD, my face was fat, my arms everything but now its just my bump really

i've not put on much weight so far, about 4lbs when i just weighed myself, but i had that horrid sick thing at the weekend and didn't eat for 2 days so maybe i lost some then... although i don't snack as a rule and hardly keep munchy foods in the house so i can't eat them!! have to admit though i wasn't so good after having ds -only put on a stone with him during pg, which i never really lost, then gained another stone afterwards and did no exercise for ages... in fact i'd just started a diet and brought a stepping machine thingy the month before discovering i was pg again....i 'm determined not to be that naughty again and crack on with the weight loss asap after giving birth!!

eeyore - i love that party suggestion, we were going to bake a cake anyway(deep breath, i can't cook - cakes normally come from packets!!) so now i'm gonna go the whole hog!!! have lots of banners and ballons saved from ds's birthday i can use.....it's gonna be a quiet birthday anyway, we have no family nearby and dp has planned to see his mates on sunday to watch the football, so it's just us!! a private party!!

Feel like my rear end is expanding just as much as my belly. Definately have noticed that I've gained more weight with this pregnancy. My old preg clothes just don't fit right.

Feeling rather gloomy today. A friend of mine had a cesarean yesterday and her baby only survived for two hours (he was diagnosed with Edward's disease at around 20 weeks and so they knew that he wasn't expected to live very long). I can't imagine what she is going through.

And then with the current terrorist situation. I'm from the US and my Mom is coming over in a few weeks for a visit and we'll both be very anxious about her coming over. Just feeling like the world is a cruel place at times. Somebody give me some good news!! The sun is shinning so at least that is something!
