maggie

not sure what zumba involves but no body contact, no high impact, nothing that involves jumping, twisting squatting, sit ups or being upside down.

MrsA2 · 01/01/2014 13:01

I'm sure I read Zumba was a no, but can't remember where - sorry. I've been using the cross trainer, rowing machine, cycling and swimming. Running is ok too if you are already used to it.

SmallOlympianBear · 01/01/2014 13:17

Maggie, last time I Zumba-d till about 22 weeks, when the bump started to impede the movement and it didn't feel quite right! I've had a break from running for a couple of months (no energy; feeling pants) but its nice to get back to it, albeit more slowly, now. My personal approach is to listen to my body and do what feels right (within limits, as Zing says) and to get advice from whoever is running the class (check they are trained to advise during pregnancy).

Happy New Year, everyone!

Ipsumlorem · 01/01/2014 13:36

auntie I'm really glad to hear you got to see your friends and spread your good news! Smile I kwym about feeling awkward but I think being pregnant is good for helping you focus a bit and be a bit clearer maybe about your needs - well I know it has for me anyway.

Happy New Year Ladies! I made it til 2am at a friends house bout promptly puked everywhere when I got home! Woke up this morning and complained to DH that I feel like I have the worst hang over of my life despite being completely sober! I don't think baby ipsum is much of a party animal Wink

ismarah · 01/01/2014 14:03

Invites Crumbs to come eat whole camemberts and rue our life decisions, before pulling outselves together and just getting on with it.. THIS YEAR

ZingChoirsOfAngels · 01/01/2014 14:11

never mind babies I AM FORTY THIS YEAR

Shock
Incapinka · 01/01/2014 14:52

Happy new year everyone! Crazy to think this time next year all being well there will be another person with us!

Itsalwaysbetteronholiday - hooray a scan buddy!! Not long now. Although will be 12.6 by then which I am sure is later than last time.

Becky2208 · 01/01/2014 15:00

Hello ladies, can I join your club? I've been lurking for a while but felt like it would be tempting fate to post before having the scan, silly as it sounds. Anyway, had the scan yesterday, and everything looked fine - a wriggly baby that didn't want to stay still - and put me at 12 weeks today, with a due date of 16th July. Feels scarily real now! Happy new year everyone!

ComeBabyCome · 01/01/2014 15:11

Happy new year everyone! Xxx

icklekid · 01/01/2014 17:04

Happy new year all, Becky I was the same didn't post until after scan just in case! Anyone else tempted by new year sales for buggy's/bed room furniture. Hadn't allowed myself to look before and now can't stop browsing/reading reviews. I just keep thinking how frustrated I will be if I have to pay more in a few months...

Khaleesi1985 · 01/01/2014 18:35

Hello! Can I join? This is my first pregnancy and I'm due in July!

kiki88 · 01/01/2014 19:10

first pregnancy, due July 21st although I think scary midwife was wrong dating me as only 9wks but jellybean measured 3.28? heading to France on Saturday snowboarding only now I have to entertain myself while the group boards, dont wana take any risks falling :s wonder if the cheese in the french supermarket will tell me if its pasteurised?

ismarah · 01/01/2014 19:24

The shame. I bought some cornflakes clusters in Morrisons on the basis that they were snacky and the cereal would sorta kinda compensate for the chocolate.. Oy, the shame. Nom nom nom

Waves at all the newbies.

I'm off to the baby show with SIL in February so will hopefully get some bargains there. The only things I actually need are a new buggy and maybe a car seat (depending on whether DS3 grows enough to move out of his) but no doubt I'll be unable to resist other things as well Grin. I always buy a new going home outfit for each of my babies and a new blanket for the moses basket.

elliejjtiny · 01/01/2014 23:14

Oh and I saw the NYE with my head over the loo, listening to the fireworks, I do lead the glamorous life. Slightly scary thinking about having a baby this year. Keep thinking I can feel him move (felt DS1 move this early) but it's probably wind.

museumworker · 02/01/2014 06:12

Happy new year, and welcome newbies! Anyone else really nervous about telling work? It's my scan today, and been awake since five with anxiety dream. Was lostin some post apocalyptic London, late for appointment, and unable to reach HR person at work. Told work friend who was really negative. Woke up.in sweat.

ZingChoirsOfAngels · 02/01/2014 06:16

MW app at 9am - I'm so excited (and worried that I'd forget to goConfused ) that I can't go back to sleep.
I only woke up to pee!Grin

ZingChoirsOfAngels · 02/01/2014 06:24

ellie

I felt DS2 at 12 weeks, very briefly - I thought I imagined it, but I felt him again a week later!
then nothing till 18 weeks.

museum

sorry you are worried about telling work.
(I'm a SAHM and my "bosses" already knowGrin )

What aspect worries you the most?

jaykay987 · 02/01/2014 07:20

I'm worried museum.
I was planning on telling them as late as possible - but now thinking I'll be 15weeks when I go back, so maybe should just get it over and done with.
Despite working in a large company with supposedly great women working practices, I'll be only the second person from my department of just over 100 people to ever go on maternity. I am terrified! It's just not expected for anyone to let their personal life 'interfere' with work. We travel a lot and even in the run up to my wedding I was working from several other countries for the proceeding 9months and eyebrows were raised when I said I wanted to book the four days before my wedding off as annual leave so I could finalise preparations! One manager actually said...."but you're not even getting married until Friday can't you fly back Thursday afternoon?"!!!! Seriously - do these people think we have a bank of assistants running around organising our lives?

I've spent many a middle of the night worried about logistics (I have two different managers to tell and ideally need to do it within a couple of hours but they are based in different places and ideally I'd like to do at least one face to face), timing, impact on my job, impact on my career, immediate reactions, the gossip. AAGGGHHH!!! I am definitely overthinking this!

on another note, my chest infection appears to be getting slightly better. But - I now appear to be having a reaction to the antibiotics. Ny tongue is swollen and sore, and ny face is swollen and feels tight and burnt. A bit like wind-burn. Applying moisturiser feels like an acid peel. Any idea whether itd be ok to continue taking the antibiotics? I think they are just starting to work, and I still have 4days left to take. And I think I can live with the face/tongue uncomfort if I can shake this illness. Or should I stop the tablets? but In worried I'll keep this cough/fever for much longer. Thoughts?

MrsA2 · 02/01/2014 07:44

I'm really nervous about telling work too.

There are lots of changes and job cuts at our offices at the moment. I either wait a little and risk getting my name on that list anyway (I think my boss has guessed I'm pregnant) or tell them ASAP but then I know I will be pushed out. I know in theory they can't make you redundant for being pregnant but the reality is that it's very simple to do, especially if there are cuts elsewhere at work.

My position is relatively senior and we really need my earnings at least until maternity leave starts.

BlueC2 · 02/01/2014 07:45

jaykay sounds like a bad reaction to the antibiotics- I would get straight back to docs to check with them before taking any more or at v least speak to a pharmacist. Glad that you're starting to feel a bit better though.

zing yeah for MW app and only 1 sleep til scan now :)

ismarah I currently have a thing for cocopops Blush

I'm not so concerned about the telling work bit as am freelance. More about still getting work whilst pregnant and hoping to do a small bit from Jan 15 again well, I will have to otherwise we will sink financially so hoping that will all be ok.

Ellie I like your ideas about what new items you will buy for this DC. We have everything from DS but if it's a girl then I will have a bit more licence for shopping (though we're not going to find out gender). Most of my newborn bits are neutral though as we didn't find out last time either. I will get a new going home suit though I'm hoping to birth at home so will be more 'first outfit'! Last time though I got a lovely suit from John Lewis but got confused in hospital and thought I'd got it in 0-3 instead of newborn and that it would be too big (DS was 6lb9oz) and put him in one from Tesco instead-turns out the JL one was newborn size and he grew so fast he only wore it twice! Oops!

We've not got too many extra bits to get and think we're going to opt for a buggy board rather than a double pushchair as DS will be 26m so will be good for him to walk!

Right-only woke up as was hungry-might try and have a little extra nap before DS wakes!

BlueC2 · 02/01/2014 07:49

mrsa2 I would tell them sooner rather than later. My understanding is that there are very different rules on making someone redundant who is pregnant to not and that may protect you. They have to make a much much stronger case to get rid of you if they know you are pregnant and can get in quite a lot of trouble if they don't follow the rules/guidelines. I'm no expert at all so worth looking into.

ZingChoirsOfAngels · 02/01/2014 07:56

on baby items - our house is full of clothes, both gender.
when DD was born after 5 boys I went crazy with the pink and the dresses. it was like a tsunami of pink!Wink

so I'm guessing I'm the smug one - ready & organized without having to lift a finger.Grin

but we'll try to find out the gender - I need to get rid of all the clothes we won't need anymore to make some space.

talulahbelle · 02/01/2014 08:27

Stress today. We DTD yesterday, and late last night I had a tiny bit of brown spotting. Feeling pretty stressed now.

I'm not back at work till Monday, tried to get up this morning with DH at 6:30 but ended up going back to sleep. I'm just so tired all the time.
