Hi Dorothea, I'm in the same boat - my NHS scan is on the 15th, but like you had a pre-Xmas private scan. I'm glad it worked out this way, I think the uncertainty of waiting until 12-13 weeks would have driven me crazy. Still worried for the next scan, but not half as much as I otherwise would have been.

Trish07 · 28/12/2013 18:00

Hi all pretty new here I'm due with my fourth baby on 2nd July ..had my scan on Xmas eve and I'm 13wks 3 days today ?? hope all your pregnancies are going well so far ..is there anybody else due around the same time x

ismarah · 28/12/2013 18:01

Told my inlaws today - spectacular reaction with them both in tears for joy! Hoping (but not expecting) this will be everyone's reaction! Next up, my parents. Gulp.

talulahbelle · 28/12/2013 18:21

ismarah telling my parents was the worst bit! I'm fairly private IRL, and not close to them (although we get on fine, we just don't discuss anything personal!) and I was dreading any over reaction.
Luckily they were calmly happy - although my mad aunt pissed me off by asking loads of stupid inappropriate stuff. Luckily I only have to see her once or twice a year.

Dorothea plates my official scan is on the 15th too, but I have had a few early ones because of previous losses. It's reassuring for all of 30min or so after the scan, the nerves never go.

My sickness seems to be clearing slightly. I still don't fancy much food, but no longer feel nauseous more than occasional. Nice but also worrying as the symptoms reassure me.

MrsB2013 · 28/12/2013 19:03

Hello to everyone joining us :)

Congratulations on all the good scans!!

Jaykay and Fifi great news on your results :)

Had my combined results back today, DS risk is 1:11,000. Would of liked a higher number, but at 32 I'm pleased with that :)

Been in bed most of today with a sore throat and coming down with a cold, and just feeling tired and no energy. Don't think all the late nights this week have helped!

Hope everyone else is ok!!!

oh you poor thing MrsB! I've caught a stinking cold and sore throat from SIL's kids who were sneezing all over the crips and dips....I saw them do it after I had had a few nibbles.
Great news on the combined results Smile

elliejjtiny · 28/12/2013 20:04

Happy Christmas everyone.

Dorothea I think I'll be the last to get a scan, I haven't had my booking in appointment yet.

RE pregnancy bucket list don't forget the cinema. I really miss the cinema but it's so hard to go these days.

Casmama · 28/12/2013 20:08

Ellie have you chased up your booking appt? I would have thought you should have had your appt by now.

BlueC2 · 28/12/2013 20:57

Evening all-another one with sore throat here. And DH has it too plus full cold-poor thing this is his 4th cold/sore throat in 2 months so he can't have any more time off work and his immune system totally shot at the moment!

Just blubbed my way through the Christmas special of Call the Midwife-good old pregnancy hormones!

Think another early night needed so really must get off the sofa!

talulahbelle · 28/12/2013 21:31

Am I mad? Just been talking with DH and -I- we have decided to have one last holiday sans DC. Probably 1st weekend of April when i will be about 24 weeks. Is flying OK then? (I assume so) Does anyone have any special tips? We are thinking short haul, possibly Italy/Greece, somewhere with a bit of luxury too.

ComeBabyCome · 28/12/2013 21:48

Hi all. Can I join too? First baby, EDD 15 July. Had private scan already and saw its lovely flickering heartbeat. NHS scan on 3 jan. xx

ComeBabyCome · 28/12/2013 21:50

I had booking in appt on 19 dec and the midwife pissed me off completely. If it carries on like this I will be declining antenatal care!!!

ismarah · 28/12/2013 23:05

Oh no CBC that's awful! Mine was pretty bad too but I simply switched weekdays so I'll get to deal with someone else. I did consider putting in a complaint but chickened out. Unless I suddenly have to deal with the horrible one, in which case I might buck up my ideas and do it.

We didn't hear a heartbeat at our scan but saw lots of wiggling and all measurements / sizes looked good.

BlueC2 · 29/12/2013 03:57

CBC we are booking in and scan date buddies and possibly due date buddies too depending who does the calcs-i have 15th-17th as a range at the mo!

It's 4am and I've been awake for ages! Just come downstairs to try glass of nesquick and homemade choc chip cookie on off chance I'm hungry Hmm blasted insomnia! Have ill DH to deal with plus his bro sil and 3 kids coming for lunch so really need to be asleep!!

Plateofcrumbs · 29/12/2013 06:42

On bucket lists - elliejj - lots of people say cinema for things they will/do miss post-baby, but it's not high up my list (love films but I'm happy enough watching from comfort of my own sofa!). That said we did go and see Gravity at the IMAX the other day which blew me away...

Tallulahbelle - we are definitely planning a holiday or two pre-baby. DH is currently talking about New York for my birthday in April, although a bit worried about being knackered - we've been before and I remember being badly hit by jet lag then, never mind adding pregnancy into the mix.

One place I've always wanted to go but never quite got round to is Morrocco but not sure if that isn't a bit too full-on.

Or Spain for the food (although I've heard things about women in Spain being advised against eating cured meats etc, and I think if anyone tried to deprive me of a bit of Jamon Iberico in Spain I couldn't be responsible for my actions).

Oh grown-up holidays, I'm going to miss you....

MrsA2 · 29/12/2013 07:47

We're planning a last holiday for just us too talulahbelle - I'll be somewhere around 24-26 weeks I think. Desperately want some sunshine.

We've also completely unrealistically as I'll be earning peanuts on SMP and we are hopefully buying a new house planned our first two holidays with DC too!

Plateofcrumbs · 29/12/2013 08:11

Don't mention SMP mrsA2 I am in denial!!

I have just spent the last hour researching Riads in Marrakech Grin

MrsA2 · 29/12/2013 08:46

Me too Plate, we literally can't afford the mortgage we are planning to take on if we get our new house - I'm just hoping we can save enough before hand to scrape by.

I'm naively assuming having a baby will save me money as we won't be eating out etc so often!

Ooh Marrakech sounds lovely...

BlueC2 · 29/12/2013 08:53

I managed a trip to NYC at 11 weeks for a wedding last time and we also had a lovely week on the South Coast (2nd tri) and DH treated me to a weekend in Central London but think I was about 34 weeks then so was pretty knackered though we did have a good time. Think we might manage a week in my parents new house in Norfolk this time! Having said that we somehow managed to move from our flat to a house when DS was 5Mo so not only am I earning less but our mortgage is higher and we have DS too! I have nightmares about the amount I won't be getting in maternity allowance (I'm self employed now) and have no idea how we're going to manage. Really hoping we can stretch to my not needing to work til Jan 15-i was so determined to have a full year off with DS but no chance of that this time!

Happy holiday planning!

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 29/12/2013 08:54

We're also thinking about a pre baby holiday, although money's tight and also concerned that our usual ''wander round interesting cities/go for long walks" kind of holidays might not be that fun if I'm 6 months pregnant. I'll be happy with a pool and somewhere nice to read a book though!

I love the cinema so going to try to get in as many trips between now and the baby coming. Have any of the second/third timers been to parent and baby screenings? I have a naive vision of spending one afternoon a week of maternity leave at the cinema with my obviously well behaved, perfectly quiet newborn... But I think this is likely to be a pipe dream!

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 29/12/2013 08:58

Oh, and BlueC2, I hear you on the self-employed and wondering where the money's going to come from front!

Although excitedly I told one of my best friends yesterday and she's kindly offered to lend us some baby stuff, which I'm really really grateful for!

Trish07 · 29/12/2013 09:02

Having trouble working my way round ! I managed to reply to a couple of posts the other day and now I've come back on there's no reply option lol don't know what I'm doing wrong help!! Wink

theborrower · 29/12/2013 09:21

MrsA2 "I'm naively assuming having a baby will save me money as we won't be eating out etc so often! "

Well... Yes and no! Babies are expensive in that you need a buggy, cot, clothes, you're not working etc but you're right in that you won't be spending money on going out. Gone were the days of me and OH going out after work for drinks on Fridays, random trips to cinema, going out for dinner etc! It maybe balances out a bit. Maybe.

I'm worried about money with #2. We live in a different flat now so our bills are a bit more, and now we already have 3 mouths to feed, plus DD is in nursery (think we'll reduce her days but we won't take her out completely. Free school nursery isn't an option because I'll be back at work before she starts at school and the hours are completely impractical for working parents, plus they're closed during summer).

theborrower · 29/12/2013 09:24

itsalwaysbetteronholiday no, I never went to a parent and baby screening before but I'm really going to try to get to them this time. We hardly ever get to the cinema now (together anyway, sometimes OH goes on his own) and it would be nice.
