I think MS is a very personal thing, individual to each pregnancy. I've known people have none and have healthy babies and also, sadly, vice versa.

It's reassuring, but nowhere near essential for the pregnancy to succeed.

Plus old wives' tale is the less sickness equals a boy baby. Not true though as again I've known the opposite.

My appetite isn't great right now. Not sure what that's about!

Anyone else struggling to brush their teeth yet?

mssleepyhead · 23/12/2013 10:57

hungry i agree, very personal, and the problem with the book is that it just looks at general statistical patterns without looking at individuals. interesting reading all the same.

my appetite also isn't great, which is so strange that DH mentioned it to the doctor...!i just don't really fancy big meals. i look at the food and can't really face starting it.

Finnable · 23/12/2013 13:42

Hey all;

Hope everyone's Christmases are shaping up well, I have a favour to ask - can you all send good positive baby-sticking thoughts my way today?

Had a massive stitchy pain in my left abdomen for a couple of days, (which I'd just put down to things stretching, but it's just not going...) and then started bleeding a bit last night. Doctor wants to see me this afternoon and said he might send me for a scan.

Will update later, fingers crossed it's nothing much, and really not ectopic as this is what I'm most afraid of I'm only 6 weeks today, so not sure how much will be visible even if they do scan me! Xmas Sad

Ruggle · 23/12/2013 13:56

Oh Finnable, sending luck and hugs your way!
At 6 weeks they should at least be able to see if there's a yolk sac in the right place, though they won't necessarily see a heartbeat yet, so please don't panic if they don't !

HungryHorace · 23/12/2013 14:01

Good luck Finn. I really hope your bean is a correctly-placed sticky one. xx

Missvaughan85 · 23/12/2013 15:25

Hungry last time, I heaved the whole time I was pregnant and cleaning my teeth!!! It was rank!!! I'm a twice a day person I ended up spending about half hour cleaning my teeth really slowly. Hasn't arrived this time. But this pregnancy I feel totally different. I feel oregnant earlier on which I didn't last time. So I'm thinking it's a boy. My daughter who doesn't know yet wants twins when we so have a baby. Which makes me so excited to tell her. We're going to surprise her at the first scan. I'm going to ask if they can scan me first to check everything's ok and then get Hubby to bring her in.

HungryHorace · 23/12/2013 15:42

I'm at the heaving stage now. Makes it tricky, doesn't it?!

Last time I puked every time I brushed them thereabouts. Took forever to get through the task in hand!

I feel quite odd today. But not what I would call pregnant! Roll on my scan 5 weeks today!

HungryHorace · 23/12/2013 15:43

And that's really sweet with your DD. :-) Bet you can't wait!

When's your scan?

PinaColadas · 23/12/2013 15:55

Finnable Sending you lots of positive thoughts, I hope you're ok, massive hugs xx

Feelingfatty · 23/12/2013 15:55

Sending good luck thoughts your way Finn, really hope it's good news

Luckily fine brushing teeth, didn't have a problem with dd either. Am exhausted today. Friend came over today and couldn't concentrate on conversion was so tired! Was so relieved when she went home...awful isn't it!!! In bed now as dh home early so having bit of quiet time as so tired!!!

Misery I'm so glad it's not just me! [Grin]

just got back from booking in app and bloods, feeling very real now.

Thatsnotmyfigure · 23/12/2013 16:23

Hi all! Just found this thread!! I'm 41, 6 weeks today with #2 (ds is 16 months). Wonderful suprise! Ds is aldo an August birthday! Had first sickness today which was a relief as not been having any symptoms and that's made me worry. Can anyone remember when the midwife first listens to baby!s heartbeat? Is it before the 12 week scan? Hope everyone is well by the way

NameToBeDecided · 23/12/2013 16:24

Finn loads of messages posted while I was typing and I missed yours. I really hope everything is ok.

LakeOfDreams · 23/12/2013 16:33

Good luck Finn hope everything goes well.

I'm curious how any of you cope with people guessing. I was on a night shift last night and really struggling with tiredness which is so unusual for me and led to a lot of "do you have something to tell us". We really don't want anyone to know so I just keep saying no but then feel a bit weird lying about it. I am only 6+1 so still far to conscious of mcing to want random colleagues knowing.

lucyfluff · 23/12/2013 16:41

Good luck Finn - let us know how you get on :)

mssleepyhead · 23/12/2013 16:45

good luck finn - hoping everything goes well for you.

mssleepyhead · 23/12/2013 17:03

been feeling a bit down today. completely my own fault: my boobs are much less sore than they were yesterday and of course i googled it and of course i just got a heap of chatrooms about mc. it's made me worried all day. i'm 5+2. has anyone else had anything similar happen? they were never super painful, just when i prodded, but today they're not really sore at all...

Missvaughan85 · 23/12/2013 17:17

Miss sleepy I am the same, didn't have sickness at all yesterday and boobs weren't feeling as sore. Then today sickness again this morning. And my boobs are hurting but it's the bra I've got on. X x

lucyfluff · 23/12/2013 17:29

mssleepy - dont worry! your a day behind me and my boobs dont hurt one bit...nothing even when I prod. Although I do have teeny boobs anyway lol!!!

Im sure everything is fine...dont google disappearing symptoms or anything similar it will make you parnoid!!!! Smile

Shakshuka · 23/12/2013 18:20

mssleepyhead
I never take my own advice but at this stage there's absolutely nothing you can do so there's no point in worrying. I don't do it very well but I do try to accept that at this stage, it is simply beyond any of my control. Otherwise you can drive yourself bananas!

Some miscarriages start off with disappearing symptoms but not all. And most women will have days where they feel fewer symptoms but everything is totally fine.

I've had a bit of spotting in this pregnancy and I know it's hard to keep perspective but nothing is over until it's over and, for today, you're pregnant!

mssleepyhead · 23/12/2013 18:53

Thank you miss v, lucy and shakshuka. I honestly don't know what's got into me, this negativity and nervousness is so unlike me! And I really appreciate your patience Smile What I am, though, is a control freak, and I guess being out of control is what's worrying me. You're right though, Shakshuka, I have to try and take this one day at a time and just see what happens. I wonder how long I'll have to tell myself that before I actually start listening Wink Thank you again for your loveliness.

Shakshuka · 23/12/2013 19:18

Oh my goodness, that's exactly my problem. I'm a total control freak and it's so hard to accept that you have no control! I hate it!!!

Feelingfatty · 23/12/2013 19:22

Try to concentrate that miscarriages are the minority not the majority so you are MUCH more likely to have a successful pregnancy than a miscarriage, that's the way I'm trying to look at it!!SmileSmileSmile

mammabear4 · 23/12/2013 20:17

Hi ladies, I've been a bit AWOL from the thread as been so busy coming up to Christmas, haven't read back so hope everyone's ok! Just had a glance at the last page and there seems to be quite a few posts on morning sickness - it hit me yesterday (I'm 7 weeks tomorrow) and it's been absolutely horrendous!!!!! On the recommendation of a friend I've bought some writ bands from boots which work like acupuncture to combat travel sickness and apparently they work wonders for ms... No help as of yet but I've only had them on half an hour! FX!! In lying on my back trying not to move too much :(
Anyone got any tips on combating it?! How's everyone else doing with sickness?
