Panic - Woo! Another SW Londoner :)

summerbaby2014 · 14/12/2013 12:50

I have my 16wk appointment in Early Jan. They listen to the heartbeat and take more blood tests apparently.

InTheBEEwitchedWinter · 14/12/2013 13:11

Gilly The midwife appointments I've had they really just have a brief chat to see how you are, check your urine sample, try to hear baby's heartbeat and take your bp.

I was told there's no further blood test until 28 weeks, though.

Bumblebeesmum · 14/12/2013 13:41

In my last pregnancy every single appt after the booking in 1 & bloods etc was you bring a urine sample they check for protein, check your blood pressure & listen to baby's heart beat. Towards the end of pregnancy they check the baby's position & whether / how far engaged baby is. All appts were probably 10/15 mins until I had protein BP problems at the end. I've no idea if that's standard everywhere but it's what I'm expecting

LadyGoneGaga · 14/12/2013 13:45

They also meausre fundal height but can't remmeber when they start doing that. They are checking the urine sample for sugar as well as protein as early warning of GD.

Bumblebeesmum · 14/12/2013 14:07

Oh yes Ladygonegaga forgot about the measuring bit! Never knew about the sugar though - but who knows if what happened with me before will be the same, they never measured back of neck for fluid on a scan last time I was pregnant so I keep getting surprises! :)

CleverOl10 · 14/12/2013 14:15

Bumble that sounds just like my experience last pregnancy.

mylittlel · 14/12/2013 14:21

Bumblebeesmum they didnt measure fluid in my scan appt as well, but they said baby was too small, but on the notes wrote that its because my bmi is above average..how nice Angry

wispaxmas · 14/12/2013 14:39

Catching up...

panic, great news about harmony! I hope the placenta thing is alright. Cvs testing is very safe, and has a far lower risk of miscarriage than most people think. Apparently it's more like 1 in 800, not 200! And are you happy to have the EDD as your birthday? Mine is 4 days before my birthday and I REALLY don't want it arriving on the same day, but not sure why...

And re all the headaches, do you know what your blood pressure is like? Aren't headaches a possible sign of high blood pressure? I can't be bothered to google it, but might be something.

And as for the 16-wk appt, I had mine yesterday. I think it varies region to region what they do, but some things must be standard. They should give you results from the blood taken at booking in (but mine weren't back yet, 5 weeks later!), take blood pressure and check your wee for something. I'm not sure, but maybe for protein, which might be a sign of pre eclampsia? Mine used a Doppler to listen to the heartbeat, but I've heard that some don't do it at 16-wks anymore, because it can be difficult to find. I heard mine, though, and it was 155bpm!

Redcliff · 14/12/2013 14:52

On my last pregnancy notes they said I was a heavy drinker! I wasn't sure what was worse, the mistake on my notes or the fact that no one ever asked me about it (in a "would you like any help" kind of way )

InTheBEEwitchedWinter · 14/12/2013 15:16

Redcliff, my notes say I'm an ex-smoker, I'm going to ask them to take that off as it's not true.

mylittlel · 14/12/2013 15:17

thats horrible, why they making these things up?!(

dramajustfollowsme · 14/12/2013 15:18

Over did it yesterday, Christmas shopping, running around after elderly family and then out for a meal late at night. Really suffering today, feel so sick. I was hoping it might clear off soon.

Redcliff · 14/12/2013 15:21

I figured they had just ticked the wrong box. I did

Redcliff · 14/12/2013 15:28

Sorry - didn't realise hopping on bus would send an unfinished message. I did point it out to my midwife and she just shrugged and said not to worry about it. I really expected a visit from SS for a while though - visions of me saying "I'm not a heavy drinker" and them saying "that's just what an alcoholic would say" and put "expectant mother in denial" on my notes . Perhaps I just have an over active imagination?

InTheBEEwitchedWinter · 14/12/2013 15:29

I joked that I begged some fags off someone at a party at uni - this particular GP sadly has no sense of humour and doesn't really listen to people so he completely missed the bit where I was nervous and making lame jokes... (also, 3-4 fags 10 years ago do not an ex-smoker make)

Redcliff · 14/12/2013 15:30

Drama - hope your putting your feet up now. I have two more shops to go to and then home maybe in a cab depending on how heavy my dads coffee maker is.

InTheBEEwitchedWinter · 14/12/2013 15:43

I feel for anyone having to run around doing Christmas shopping, we went into town last Saturday and it was horrible. It's dark and stormy and wet here and I'm just happy to be on the sofa in my new maternity track suit with a cup of Christmas tea, watching Harry Potter.

Drama, I hope you get a chance to rest today!

Redcliff, safe home, I hope you can put your feet up, too, once you are done!

Bumblebeesmum · 14/12/2013 16:25

Bee I think if you say you have smoked previously they put ex smoker by policy - there is no definition on how many (even though yours sounds ridiculous)

Redcliff - I hate that you're a heavy drinker & no one said anything that's terrible. How would they know you even understand the health risks?!

I loved that my midwife asked if there is domestic violence in the house - with both of us in the house. I doubt many would say yes without culprit present but with just seems bizarre!

Bumblebeesmum · 14/12/2013 16:26

Redcliff - obviously I mean 'that they think you're a heavy drinker' didn't mean to sound like I think you actually are!! :)

noseymcposey · 14/12/2013 16:53

my mw whispered me the DV question as DP was in the next room. She also whispered the question about previous abortions. Must be awkward for them to try and be discrete I think. The question about whether DP and I were related took me by surprise though - don't remember that from last time!
Funnily enough I told Mw I smoked till 4yrs ago and still had the occasional one and she put me down as non-smoker!

MyLittleWarrior · 14/12/2013 17:25

How are you guys managing the winter baby blues? When hubby goes to work I feel lonely. Don't have much friends and actually they're all working and kinda tricky to invite them around who absolutely do not have idea about pregnancy symptoms. I wish I can make friends who can relate with me and my 14 weeks pregnancy symptoms.

InTheBEEwitchedWinter · 14/12/2013 17:41

I was asked about DV but not about previous pregnancies/abortions or whether we were related - the midwife in the EPP asked that, though I think it came up again at the booking appt. I'm surprised they do that at home, tbh, and not at least during the midwife clinic at the GP practice.

nosey Hah, I am vindicated! And shall take a pen to my maternity nots.

Argh - christmas films + hormones = very red eyes and a lot of sobbing. My poor DD kept asking me to stop crying.
