OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
panicmechanic · 17/12/2013 17:10

Hi Lady, I agree normally re amino/cvs but have an issue with my placenta that is why I am having it ironically not because of chromosomal risk. I am going to see the consultant in the morning - I am happy to go with harmony but the midwife rattled me. So stressed about it all its poo!

InTheBEEwitchedWinter · 17/12/2013 17:15

Lady I think panic is having a CVS anyway because the cord was in a strange place so the placenta is being checked.

Is that right? Hmm

InTheBEEwitchedWinter · 17/12/2013 17:16

Oops, slow poke typing Xmas Grin.

panic When is your CVS booked for? The sooner you have it, the sooner you can relax.

MarlenaGru · 17/12/2013 17:46

panic what a lot of worry for you. I believe with your age as a factor you may find that your combined test is fairly low risk? Any chance you can find out what the average is for your age? I would also not have an amnio unless fmc would advise for you to have it on top of what you have already had?

lady I am having my second but have a large gap and nearly everyone I have told has asked me either if it was planned or if I am happy about it. Both very rude and both none of their business really.

ItsaWonderfulLifeofGru · 17/12/2013 18:05

liquid, jessie and donna we are moving back to Scotland at the start of January. In New York at the moment and it has been snowing all morning. Xmas Smile

jaykay987 · 17/12/2013 18:43

Hello!

Panic - I would take the harmony result and try not to worry easier said than done I know

First time today - I didn't wear a scarf to work. I felt so exposed with my tummy on view. Not good. Must plan clothes better tomorrow!

Tomorrow afternoon I have my nuchal. I'm getting really nervous. DH isn't coming. We've gone for Harmony - but my mental mw insisted I should be dated "properly" at the hospital. So DH isn't coming as we've written this off as 'not a proper appointment'. I didn't put up too Mich of a fight, as although I hate hospitals, I'm intrigued to see what it's like as I've not visited before. I'm nervous now though as I'm not sure how I'll cope if it's bad (or confusing) news? Our harmony results and fmc nuchal are booked in for Christmas eve. DH has time booked off work for this.

Ho hum!

Mitchell2 · 17/12/2013 18:57

Hi panic - I didnt have the combined test in the NHS as when I told the sonographer she said they would just do the nuchal fold and that the harmony test is much more accurate. But am a bit confused re the FMC result? Assuming they did the traditional nuchal fold + bloods? Either way the chap from the FMC apparently was the person who pioneered the combined test or something so I would go with their odds over the NHS any way.

I know its not easy to not worry but I would give the FMC a call if you want to discuss? Surely they will be able to give you some more info as to their result vs the NHS.

InTheBEEwitchedWinter · 17/12/2013 18:58

jaykay I've had Nuchal and combined test done privately here and the midwives I've seen at my various appointments had no interest whatsoever in the results, neither the actual scan/size nor the test results. Weird attitude but it just seemed to be dismissed as not relevant.

Sasafraz · 17/12/2013 19:33

Hi panic,
The combined test has your age as a major variable in the formula; hence it always comes back worse than other tests if you are 42.

harmony looks at the cDNAs of the baby circulating in your body and is more accurate for the three trisomies, 13, 18 and 21.

I wouldn't worry about your combined test results if the harmony test couldn't detect the trisomy 21 in your child's cDNA.

CVS and amniocentesis look at the same pool of genetic issues and if you are having CVS then it is pointless to do amniocentesis!!

cjbk1 · 17/12/2013 20:05

anyone had a massive (hormonal?) cry recently I did on sun see do you go OTT on anything overcompensating for... thread and suddenly I've started feeling really miserable tonight tho prob just tired and nearly everyone had a headache at work all that bright white so I cldnt sneak off Wink

summerbaby2014 · 17/12/2013 20:08

Panic- best of luck with the tests, sorry to hear you're having a worrying time. You've already had some good advice here so there's not much I can add
Keep us updated

summerbaby2014 · 17/12/2013 20:14

Good luck to others having tests too. Fingers crossed for good results for all

Jessiebaba · 17/12/2013 20:14

So sorry about your worries panic Good luck with the tests x

InTheBEEwitchedWinter · 17/12/2013 21:02

Oh goddess above, I'm watching Arthur Christmas and just had a huge cry about them shooting Grandpa Santa.

Also, either someone is dancing Macarena on my uterus or something is seriously weird down there. What do Braxton Hicks feel like, anyway, I've heard you can have them from 15/16 weeks?!

chestnutmare · 17/12/2013 21:02

ItsaWonderfulLifeofGru, Liquid, Jessie and donna, I'm in Scotland too! Further north though, near Aberdeen Xmas Smile

Jessiebaba · 17/12/2013 21:15

There are a fair few Scottish babies now then, Donna, Gru, Liquid, chestnut Xmas Smile Must be VERY cold up in Aberdeen, chestnut*?

Whereabout are you moving back to Gru? And why!? I'd stay in New York... Xmas Wink

chestnutmare · 17/12/2013 21:21

Not toooo bad just now, temperature has dropped over the last day or two though, was up at about 10 degrees last week! Xmas Confused

I went out for my first run tonight since finding out I was pregnant, wasn't as bad as I'd predicted but got blisters now!

donnas1984 · 17/12/2013 21:23

I cried at that stupid video of the people telling santa what they want before they board the plane and getting them off the carousel at the end of there flight! sobbed like a baby xx

Vickyvix · 17/12/2013 21:49

A lot of crying from me over last week or two, virtually anything can set me off, happy or sad!

panic sorry you're having a stressful time. I don't know much about all of this, as it's my first, but based on what I've read I agree with others who suggest harmony is most accurate and that age can skew the combined results. Good luck with the CVS, I agree it seems odd they are suggesting amino as well, seems unnecessary to go through both. Fingers crossed for you, I really hope you get a clear answer soon and all is ok, could you discuss it FMC? I think they will be able offer some of the best advice available.

Carks31 · 17/12/2013 22:05

Been absent since thread 2 or 3 I think! Just about caught up with this one now and adding myself as finally had my dating scan today and feel I can breathe a little sigh of relief after actually seeing something in there!:

Ooh....I've not seen that advert donna. Sounds like it would set me off! I'm crying a lot!

Also feel like I spent the day (or last night) doing sit ups when nothing could be further from the truth my tummy is getting really sore. Anyone else the same?

MarlenaGru · 17/12/2013 22:37

chestnut I am in awe! I seem to have the pregnancy waddle already. Everything seems out of line and I think running would be too sore. Do osteopaths treat pregnant women?

I have signed up for maternally fit on advice of a few friends and that starts in Jan so hoping that will help slow down the weight gain. Eating less sugar would help too I guess Hmm

chestnutmare · 17/12/2013 22:55

I have done a few 5k runs this year and had signed up for my first 10k in May next year but seems pretty unlikely I'll be doing that now!

I was doing a few shortish runs (3-4k) a week just before I found out I was pregnant, and haven't done anything since as my boobs have grown so much it was pretty uncomfortable! However tonight I suddenly felt guilty for not doing it for so long so decided to go for it.

Will try to keep it up, one of my friends kept running until she was 7 months pregnant, very impressive!

superlambanana · 17/12/2013 22:55

Yes jaykay mine is sore too! Presumably it's the stretching...?

superlambanana · 17/12/2013 23:05

Btw is anyone else anywhere near Scouseland? I know we did the where are we all a couple of threads ago but lots have joined since then! Just wondered if there are any fellow Merseysiders around...
