Scan at 9:30. I'm terrified and excited at the same time. Confused
Hope there is a baby in there.

chestnutmare · 18/12/2013 07:48

MarlenaGru · 18/12/2013 08:18

donnas1984 · 18/12/2013 08:25

Good luck drama and misshoohaa! Is this the first time you'll be seeing your baby? It's wonderful, amazing and brilliantGrin

I've been up since 5am with backache/bumache on my right hand side its agony anyone got any tips? Xx

dramajustfollowsme · 18/12/2013 08:32

I used to get a really bad back during last pregnancy. Lots of pillows, strategically placed used to help.

SarahAnderson · 18/12/2013 08:33

I had such great intentions of keeping up running, but at only 13 weeks I am already finding it challenging for two reasons: breathlessness and big boobs! Actually my boobs are really small normally so 'big' for me is still 'smallish' for everyone else. I was running at the weekend thinking 'How on earth do people with normal sized boobs do this?!'

Am trying to compensate by doing pregnancy pilates. There are some fantastic videos on YouTube, so I'm rolling out the mat before work and getting 20 minutes in. Again, have excellent intentions of continuing but we shall see...

Vickyvix · 18/12/2013 08:45

Good luck today drama and misshooha I hope you both have lovely scans and get to see your little one wriggling about in there :)

Bumblebeesmum · 18/12/2013 09:04

Donnas a pregnancy pillow is a good investment

Good luck to anyone having scans today

donnas1984 · 18/12/2013 09:16

thanks my friend gave me her pillow its huge like an extra person in the bed and I just get a bit tangled up! Might invest in a simpler v shaped one.

CleverOl10 · 18/12/2013 09:17

Good luck for scans today.

Super, not a scouser but I'm in Cheshire which isn't too far!

Redcliff · 18/12/2013 09:47

Donna - I had a great v shaped one last time and was great for feeding once my DS was here. Thanks for the reminder. I gave my last on away (doh) so might have to start looking around for another one.

Jessiebaba · 18/12/2013 10:07

Good luck with the scans today misshooha and drama

summerbaby2014 · 18/12/2013 10:16

Nice young men leaping out of their seats for me on the tube this morning.

I'm liking this badge malarky afterall :)

mylittlel · 18/12/2013 10:53

Ladies do you read any pregnancy books?

Yesterday decided to give a go to 3 different books and thought that i actually dont want to waste my time reading every bit.

My DH made a joke that i need a book for dummies which has just pictures and bullet points, even though its a joke a totally agree,i have lots of questions what to do with baby when s/he arrives but in every book you have to read tones of unnecessary info to find out what you want.

Anyone else struggling or can recommend any good books?

GillyBillyWilly · 18/12/2013 10:55

Good luck to all the ladies with scans!
I had my 16 week midwife appointment this morning and got to listen to the heartbeat... The midwife said it was "exceptionally clear" which made me happy even though she probably says that to everyone! Grin
She didn't say at the time but I've just looked through the notes and the heart rate was 142 bpm.
Now just have to wait til 20th jan for my 20 week scan! Smile

gilly!! Glad things are going well with you. I've been away from MN for the last couple months an just wanted to pop in and say I have 4 faint positives lying in my bathroom!! I can't wait to get home and test again. I still can't quite believe it.

Hope all is going well with your pg and it continues to do so

Lmf679 · 18/12/2013 11:18

mylittlel I'm reading the What to Expect when you're Expecting book and it is good, there is a lot of things I didn't know in there as a first timer, it goes into a lot of detail which I'm grateful for as I've always been a bit squeamish and avoided programmes like One Born Every Minute. My friend has got me the Modern Mums Guide to pregnancy so I'll let you know how that goes too.

Bumblebeesmum · 18/12/2013 11:23

I read what to expect when expecting - huge book so didn't read it all but it's nice & informative
I'm currently reading Brain Training for babies which I'm enjoying (it's not how the title sounds it's explaining factually how acts of love stimulate the brain like touch & kisses & games etc) can't say I'm learning to do anything different but it's interesting anyway
I was so worried I wouldn't have a clue what to do with no 1 & then he turned up & I realised there's barely anything to do except feed & change. Now I'm worried about how on earth I feed & change all day long with an extremely demanding toddler....is anyone else panicking about juggling?!

coldofhands · 18/12/2013 11:25

mylittlel I've got the What to expect book, which as a first-timer is proving useful. I got my fiance the Daddynatal one which he likes.

I'm shattered today, woke up feeling like I could go back to bed straight away and it's not got any better. Trying to take it easy but there's just such a lot to do.

Hope today's scans all go well. Smile

Riblet · 18/12/2013 11:26

I'm a bit late to the discussion but try not to worry too much Panic - I agree with others that the Harmony should be the most accurate. There is quite a difference between the ratios which seems surprising but the age thing must skew it a lot. If I get chance I'll try and read some of the references about the different tests (I'm a biologist and my last job was in genetics, although I admit I'm by no means a geneticist!)

Super - I'm in Liverpool! Did wonder if you were too based on your name! Whereabouts are you?

Had 16wk (actually 15 due to xmas) MW app this morning - am now seeing a MW at the hospital twin clinic rather than the one I'd originally been assigned at the children's centre. All went fine, usual BP, hand over a pot of wee etc, but we also unexpectedly got to see our babies again as the sonographer at the 12wk scan hadn't written in my notes whether there were 1 or 2 sacs and placentae. I remembered she had told us there were 2 sacs but hadn't mentioned placentae, and which category you fall into dictates the care plan as the risk changes. As it is we have DCDA twins so each have their own of everything - most likely non-identical but also lowest risk. I didn't get to see much of them due to the screen position but DH said it was a lot clearer than last time. It was the consultant who scanned me and he said everything looks great and head measurements are spot on for the age, so am really pleased, and just managed to keep from crying this time! 20wk scan booked in for 22nd Jan, then it'll be 4 weekly appointments - work are going to have to be very understanding!

little - I got Your New Pregnancy Bible which is a tome - only read a bit so far but seems very informative and covers everything. MIL bought DH Pregnancy for Men, which so far I have read more of than he has, but actually it might not be such a bad idea to get something like that as it tends to assume men know nothing about pregnancy so explains it all in simple terms. The other alternative is to go to the library and just pick up a few that take your fancy, then you can buy any if they are good.

Glad to hear MW app went well Gilly and good luck to anyone else with appointments today Smile

Emmazers · 18/12/2013 11:43

Hi everyone Smile

Can't believe it's only a week until Christmas! I STILL haven't got anything for the dreaded SIL and starting to panic Sad

Foodwise I have the constitution of an ox, probably because I was a grubby, outdoor, well-travelled child, so I do to avoid anything for risk of infection as I'd be very surprised if there was much I wasn't immune to already. I do minimise liver, which I usually love and obviously keep drinking light with the odd one now and again. With my daughter I ate carpaccio of pork at a fancy restaurant in Barcelona! They assured me it was perfectly safe and so it was.

Cycling is my main form of transport, so I'm not concerned about exercise. I cycled to hospital to give birth to my daughter, so don't expect the bump to stop me anytime soon. I look after friends' kids sometimes though and not sure how much longer I'll be able to pull two or three kids along with me in hilly Bristol.

InTheBEEwitchedWinter · 18/12/2013 11:43

I hope the scans went well this morning!!!

I was starting to feel like a fraud for still being signed off work and reading of all you exhausted ladies struggling along but I cleared the living room yesterday - all I did was shelf about 3-4 boxes and move a few more boxes to get them out of the way - and I ended up with cramping and brown discharge.

That's about 20% of what I do on a normal work day in the library! Ack.

I have the big purple NHS book I got at my booking appointment, I read the Mumsnet guide to pregnancy (well before I even got pregnant, I like to know what I can expect!) and I have three German pregnancy books, one week-to-week guide, one written by OB/Gyns and one by Midwives - they're very different in tone!

But then, all your pregnancy appointments back home are normally done with your regular OB/Gyns who also does your smear tests so medically it's very different - I still find the advise very useful, though.
