Happy belated birthday choco, I hope you start to feel better soon!

I thought I read somewhere that isofix bases had a little bit of give in them to absorb some of the impact of a crash, but that might be completely wrong as I don't know where I read it.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 01/12/2013 14:16

Sorry for those feeling rubbish - I am extremely paranoid about catching colds at the moment - I give people who cough or sneeze near me the stink-eye. The other day at the bus stop there was a tramp who was coughing without even covering his mouth. I walked to the next stop - I am so not ready to come down with a cold or worse!

I did a massive Mothercare shop on the 20% off - and was on the phone to my Mum, who promptly ordered our pram for us as a present! How lovely is that?

Now got to summon the sanity/calmness to go back to the Boots site and re-order everything I just tried to order, when the website went all fucked up. I so nearly threw the laptop on the floor. I hate malfunctioning websites. Esp when I just spent 20 mins getting all the 3 for 2 bargains etc!
However, when it's done, apart from getting measured in a couple of weeks for nursing bras, I'm done. Phew.

fryingpantoface · 01/12/2013 14:43

Hi! So glad can mn on my phone again.

drama here last night! Ended up in hospital because of persistent bh. I'm 2cm dilated, baby is fully engaged, and i have a very soft cervix. I've been losing mucus plug today too. They aren't too concerned because I'm measuring big but i have to go straight in if my waters break.

then today ds comes down with chickenpox!! Great!

Hola! Have just returned from successful bargain shopping expedition! Have got 2 pairs of compression socks(much cheaper than travel/maternity socks) and light wrap over dressing gown from sports direct, 2moses basket sheets from matalan reduced at £1.50 each, braces for £5 to hold my under bump trousers up and long white vest at £4. Go me!

I got Wednesday off on holiday this week, and have already got a slow cooker on standby and just treated myself to great big stockpot too, so guess what I'll be doing all day enormouse? Grin

Also have MW appt at the birth centre that night and it'll be the first DH goes to. Hoping he'll get to listen to ToothJr, cos he'll like that.

Right PILs will arrive shortly, enjoy your Sundays everyone.

TarkaTheOtter · 01/12/2013 15:02

Wow frying might not be long then!

Will the baby be born with some immunity or would you have to keep then apart if it was born now? What timing!

Sultanajo · 01/12/2013 15:39

mrsg and blue I too bought the car seat due to its safety rating. The feel of instability was just more than I expected. Once we have had it checked by someone who knows how it should feel I will feed back.

choco great to hear from you! You really have had a rough time! Must be a relief to be home, despite still having one annoying fecker of a stone causing you pain. Glad you managed to get out for your birthday! Happy belated birthday! Don't worry, I am no further forward with hospital bag etc. Started writing my Xmas cards today though to get them out of the way - feeling quite virtuous, but only really touched the surface of my list of stuff to get done!

Sultanajo · 01/12/2013 15:43

humpty what is it with you and tramps? First vomming on one and then another trying to give you lurgy? Lol!

I too am desperately trying to avoid colds....just don't think I could handle it, esp if I then went into labour! Really want to go swimming but can just imagine the bugs the changing rooms are currently habouring - just not worth it! Am sure that's where I picked up the vomming bug a few weeks back....

Sultanajo · 01/12/2013 15:46

Omg! frying! Ekkkk! Sounds as though you will be our next baby potentially! How far along are you? Cant believe the chicken pox timing! Unbelievable!

Felix90 · 01/12/2013 15:50

Frying how exciting! How many weeks are you now? Also can't believe the chicken pox timing Shock

I woke up today with the dreaded cold of death. Feel like absolute shite. First day of moving house today too and only managed one car load because there's major roadworks on the ring road outside our flat. I want to just cancel moving house and crawl back in to bed forever.

fryingpantoface · 01/12/2013 16:02

No idea if the baby would be immune. I'm 33+3, so not even that far along. Just hoping it stays in another couple of weeks.

chicken pox boy is watching the Gruffalo again. I'm lying on the couch trying to pretend my belly doesn't keep going rock hard and having bh. Thinking about having a bath.

oh Felix, that sounds awful! Keep going, you'll be feeling at home in no time

OP posts:
extracrunchy · 01/12/2013 16:17

Frying that all sounds very dramatic! Good the hospital aren't worried. Have you asked them shoot chicken pox? Bath sounds like a good idea! Have you got help with DS this week so you can rest? Hope little one stays in a bit longer!

extracrunchy · 01/12/2013 16:32

*about chicken pox

OnlyThePurpleOnes · 01/12/2013 17:00

Wow, Frying. That's a lot to deal with. And your poor DS too, bless him. Fingers crossed FryingJr decided to bake a bit longer.

Had to take DD to docs yesterday and she was diagnosed with ear and throat infection and put on her first ever lot of antibiotics. She is coughing and hacking and nose running all over the place bless her. We pretty much haven't left the sofa today, except to dig out her headphones so I didn't have to listen to Room on the Broom for the umpteenth time, then after bath time is noticed a rash on her legs and went into some kind of meltdown about it being meningitis. She got all aggro with me rubbing glasses all over her (Mummy what are you putting on me now!? Leave me alone please!) so I left her and DH to it, came downstairs and burst into tears. After a fairly comprehensive DRGoogle session (yes I know...) I think it's just a part of the virus but I'm still checking on her every 30 mins. And will be popping back to dr in the morning to confirm, lest I go insane. God, parenthood just doesn't let up does it?

On the plus side, we got the tree up today, and my 'just for show' chrismtas tea towels are now adorning the oven handle. Candles are on and DH has just bought me a cup of tea and a packet of hobnobs.

Off to check out mothercare and boots websites now just in case there's anything I NEED since you did so well, Humpty!

Frizz1986 · 01/12/2013 19:17

Wow frying that all sounds rather crazy! Hope the bh slow down and bubs stays put for a while. At least the hospital doesn't seem concerned. Thanks god you have just started your mat leave.

mac your dh sounds like he was a bit of an arse. Hope he has made it up to you.

mrsv sorry you are unwell. Hope the random sleep vomiting stops!

sultana sorry about your cat. I cant even bear the thought of my dog getting old.

gummi i had a look at amazon black friday but kept missing all the things i liked. Its prob a good thing as its not like we can really afford for me to be buying random things. We haven't even got all the xmas gifts done yet.

felix sorry your breastfeeding session sucked. Ours was ok but I think it helped that it was fairly early so we didn't actually know that much about it all, but most of the info has since been covered again. The woman was a bit crazy though.

Belated birthday wishes choco Hope they get something sorted for the kidney stone. It sounds rather frustrating (as well as painful)

tooth how the hell have you survived 2 years without a freezer. Ours always seems to have random crap in it, but it is nice to be able to get some good food deals and just freeze it. I have just cleared mine ready for filling with meals for after baby.

I am also avoiding sick people as much as possible. Don't want to feel even more drained than I already am.

Have had the parents up this weekend. They went to leeds xmas markets and then came to stay with us on friday and left this morning. My dad fitted a plug to the worktop in our kitchen and put in an outside light, and my mum cleaned the house. I even got on my hands and knees to do some cleaning to help make sure baby stays where it should. The house looks ace now and smells so clean! They said they will do another clean when they come to visit in 3 weeks with my sister so I don't have to overexert myself at the moment Smile
They took us shopping again too, even though I had already made my aldi shopping list so we have got lots of yummy food. Have made my shopping lists up until xmas week as want to use up freezer stuff and the FIL has offered us his nectar points to do an xmas shop so can get things to make meals for the freezer as well as some xmas treats.

We fitted the car seat today. I thought the base my sister had given us was isofix but we can only work out how to strap it in with seat belts and no instructions have come with it. It seems sturdy though but having a 3 door clio makes it really hard getting the seat in and out (and thats without baby in it)
We also tested out the steriliser by putting our bottles in it (also wanted to check they fit) and i cleared a shelf in the kitchen for the baby stuff (bottles, breast pump etc)

No tree up here yet, but hoping we will do it next weekend.

Only 13 more days of work!!! Yay! Hoping that from tomorrow I will be doing very little as my boss said the other week that from tomorrow they don't really want me helping out as they need to see what they are capable of. They are supposed to be telling all my contacts that I am going too and who their new contact is. I don't think that will happen though as on friday my boss turned to me and said 'me and you can catch up on this work next week in no time can't we' Seems to go against what they said the other week but each time they sort something to make things easier for me, within a week they are going back on their word again. Am going to stand my ground though and say that I will do my work and then once I am done I will help out but I don't want to be 'responsible' for more stuff.

Hope everyone has a nice rest of the evening.

Frizz1986 · 01/12/2013 19:18

Wow that was a much bigger post than i was expecting! Sorry.

Frizz1986 · 01/12/2013 20:18

Ok so i just tried a perineal massage......how the hell are you supposed to get both thumbs in there?! I cant get more than 1 hand between my legs so can only get one thumb in. It is all really swollen down there so not even sure if what i am doing is right. Will try it everyday (if i remember) and i hope there is some change.
It all feels rather tingly now. Is that right?

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 01/12/2013 20:22

frying blimey - keep us posted, sound v dramatic! I hope FryingBaby stays in another few weeks, at least. Poor DS as well, chicken pox is the pits.

frizz awww for your parents, how lovely of them.

Only hope your DD gets better soon.

Felix

sultana I am a tramp magnet. It's like being a boy-magnet, but SO MUCH less glamorous.

quackojuliet · 01/12/2013 20:32

Take it easy frying and look after yourself.

Humpty you may have now had luck with the boots website, I had the same happen after a mammoth shop (whole basket emptied).called up and was told website had crashed. Called later they said it had been fixed. Spent another hour loading up basket again. It emptied again, the fucker!! In the end I just went to the shop...
Taking it easy here. Signed off this week with spd so got a few nice jobbies around the house and physio appointments but hopefully a calm week.

Sultanajo · 01/12/2013 20:36

purple you poor thing! I would be just as paranoid as you if I saw a rash....bless your DD asking you to leave her be. Why do these things always appear outside of working hours too? We are here to hold your hand....

frizz I was determined to do perineal massage, but the reality is I am the same as you and cant reach properly so not going to bother....good on you for keeping on trying... I hardly ever remember to do pelvic floors, so there is no way I could remember to do anything else....

frying glad the hospital aren't too concerned. Fingers crossed bubs keeps baking for a few more weeks....

Well apart from 40 ecards I need to sort, I have today written most of our Xmas cards, nearly finished washing all the baby stuff and think I have finished ordering all the baby stuff I need for now....Once the hospital bags are packed I think I will feel more in control...

Car goes in for its expensive service this week. Could really do without the cost but haven't serviced it for several years and I want to ensure its reliable when bubs arrives - plus the boot has started to be temperamental, so need to get that sorted at least and a new set of windscreen wipers.....

Sultanajo · 01/12/2013 20:38

Felix so sorry you have the lurgy! Such bad luck and bad timing...hope it buggers off soon.

humpty tramp magnet! Lol!

Mythreeknights · 01/12/2013 20:56

chocco you poor thing, kidney stones really sound rough, I hope you are not in too much pain now. How many weeks are you now?

frying brilliant! 2 cm dilated without any pain...that's always the hardest part for me. Fingers x you can keep the little one in anther couple of weeks and then have a really positive birth experience and drink lots of champagne afterwards.

I have just started thinking about hospital bags...must admit to not having a clue what to put in so will go back and read some old threads about it. Also, has anyone ordered their tens machine yet? I definitely can't do without one.

sultana you poor thing with your cat...I am so obsessed with my cat and love her so much and i can imagine how stressful it must be.

Sultanajo · 01/12/2013 21:31

Omg DHs mum has just called to say she will be coming from 9th-25th Jan! Bubs may or may not be here by then and I feel like crying at the stress of it all! She is lovely but intense (being Mediterranean) and smokes like a chimney. I am potentially going to be home with a newborn, full of crazy emotions and trying to get to grips with everything and then have MIL to contend with for two weeks. Exactly what I was hoping wouldn't happen.... Fuckity fuck! I either need bubs to be early so I can hopefully regain some of my sanity, or for him to arrive just as MIL arrives so I can force DH to take paternity leave then so I have some moral support. In fact, perhaps that's the key - get DH to take his paternity leave while she is here....Dont know if he will do it though as he is a lecturer and that wont be the ideal time for him to take off....plus he didn't want to take the full two weeks for financial reasons.

I can hear him on the phone to her now broaching the subject of smoking around babies. I don't know exactly what he is saying, but am relieved he has at least mentioned it to her.

Sorry for the me me me post. Just needed to let out my panicky stress to you guys as I know you will understand.... It would be different if bubs had been here a few months....

flyawayblue · 01/12/2013 21:34

wow frying - I hope the BH calm down and Jr stays put a bit longer. Glad the hospital aren't worried and bad timing with poorly DS too. I hope he is okay, I remember being allowed to watch lots of bad tv and staying in my parents bed more than the itching.

Purple you poor thing, why do these things always happen out of hours? Hope your DD feels better soon and I love the idea of the Christmas decorations

chocco kidney stones are horrible and I hope your not in too much pain.

Very impressed with the cleaning frizz, did you get anything nice from the Christmas markets? I haven't been to any yet but always love the food, drink, general smells and goodies.

Hope the week off helps with the SDP quackojuliet

We're having trouble with the iso fix and maxi cosi pebble too, just can't seem to get the green lights every time and then still feels a bit wobbly. Plan to try and "use" it a few times so poor future DD doesn't get rocked or wait screaming while we try and use it for real for the first time.

Also on the count down at work [happy dance] as I've only got 13.5 days left not counting Christmas work lunches or afternoons... Going to strap my boss to his seat on Tuesday and demand to know who I can hand over too and give as a contact as he hasn't sorted out maternity cover.

Just back from a family long weekend and had a lovely time with my nephews, it's lovely to see them as it reminds me of all the good things to come as I find it easy to focus on the horribleness of pregnancy sometimes.

flyawayblue · 01/12/2013 21:40

Yikes Sultanajo, is there anyway to have DH's mum stay with family, friends or in a hotel near by? That way she can see the new baby, be around, but you still have your space for you, your new baby and your DH?

If she can't then yes to DH taking his paternity leave at the same time, no matter how helpful I don't think I would feel the same with my MIL around at that time. Can completely understand the panic and post away.

I know I'm also not looking forward to the smoking round baby conversations but luckily they will be a bit further off as my mum gave up two years ago and only 1 of aunties smokes now.

Frizz1986 · 01/12/2013 21:55

sultana you should def get dh to take leave whilst MIL is staying unless she stays elsewhere. It really isn't reasonable expecting to stay with you for the first few weeks after having a baby.
At our bumps NHS class the midwife told us to be firm with visitors and tell them that unless they are planning on bringing food or coming to help with housework whilst baby and you sleep you should tell them they aren't welcome (easier said than done I know) but we have casually brought up what the midwife said in conversation with the parents/inlaws as she is probably right. You need recovery time from the exhaustion of labour/last few weeks and time to enjoy your baby and learn a bit about them before all hell descends upon you.
Hope dh is supportive with it all.
