How does the Black Friday deal work?

TarkaTheOtter · 29/11/2013 09:08

I think they have a certain number to sell at a particular "bargain" price. When the deal goes live you can buy it until it sells out or the time runs out. I think it's a way of getting people on the website all day long. Most of the good deals I've seen have been all snapped up well before the time runs out so I keep checking te advance deals (they tell you what's coming up but not the price).
Was that clear (probably not)? Grin

BookTart · 29/11/2013 09:27

Mine's done the same toby - he's taken the first three days of my maternity leave off to decorate the bathroom. Why would you choose to do this now? WHY?!!
Midwife yesterday was fine, although when I got there it wasn't my midwife and she had a student with her. I said I was fine with it, but the student turned out to be a not unattractive young man and I had to expose my enormous fat tummy to him so he could grope it Blush
I have a week left at work and nothing left to do, so I'm going to spend a lot of time looking at Black Friday things. DH has apparently just bought a Soda Stream. Fizzy milk!

TobyLerone · 29/11/2013 09:35

To be fair, it was my idea! We moved our bedroom around a few weeks ago and ever since I've been wishing it was redecorated. And our hallway has been half de-wallpapered and unfinished for ages. We can easily do our room and the hall/stairs/landing in a week. The week of the 16th is the first week we don't have appointments or stuff to do (and, annoyingly I had to make a mw appointment that week yesterday), so we'll be covered in paint all week!

I am so bored now. Soooooo bored!

MrsVDB · 29/11/2013 10:11

After my scan yesterday I also had a student midwife yesterday who had to do my blood pressure and check wee before I saw consultant. First of all she said the blood pressure cuff didn't fit so went to get another (bigger one they must use on obese ward) then said that one was too short too! I've never had a problem before and my bingo wings aren't that big! So she had to get someone else to do it. How embarrassing! Although they managed with the normal cuff.

Just getting my pedi (shellac so I don't have to worry about feet for another few weeks) and the lady is due next week. She's wearing socks and sandals as her feet are too swollen for shoes which is making mine seem less podgy

MrsVDB · 29/11/2013 10:30

Ooh thanks tarka I wasn't sure about the whole baby surveillance thing but i love a bargain so ill keep an eye out

Kiddicare has 20% off today and I think it covers everything apart from toys

fryingpantoface · 29/11/2013 10:43

Thanks for the kiddicare heads up! I'll look at sheets for the cot.

Toby MW said any time from term (37 wks) is fine as it takes a while to build up!
Black Friday just see stressful..!

extracrunchy · 29/11/2013 11:23

*seems
I keep missing stuff!

TobyLerone · 29/11/2013 11:26

Ah. Useful info, thanks extra :)

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 29/11/2013 11:56

tarka I am a total Black Friday addict. Bought a Fisher-Price bouncy seat in it yesterday this one.

Kiddicare - go through Quidco as well for cashback.

enormouse · 29/11/2013 12:54

I can't quite get the hang of black Friday. Last year DPs mum bought everyone kindle fires for Christmas using it. So I know it can be fantastic. [Out of the loop emoticon].

Had a lovely day at the German market and in general shopping yesterday.
I saw my college tutor as well and she was absolutely lovely. Pushed back my essay deadlines and moved my January exam and persuaded me to go for my ucas application this year. Basically took a load of pressure off me to get everything done by January. Btw I really recommend costas black forest hot chocolate. Shouldn't work but is amazing.

I've been christmasifiying the house today as I'm busy this weekend, despite the best efforts of DP ('its still November') and DS (tangling my fairy lights and generally getting in the way). I feel like I'm finally getting back to feeling like me again. I even made leek and potato soup for lunch and were going on an ivy and holly foraging mission later.

I hope everyone's getting in the festive weekend spirit. [Festive smiley]

TobyLerone · 29/11/2013 13:00

DS, DH and I all sat like losers with our respective laptops last night looking at the Amazon Black Friday stuff, but it was mostly tat.

TarkaTheOtter · 29/11/2013 13:01

Sounds like you are having a lovely day enormouse. We are going to see an "enchanted wonderland" (forest with lights and expensive hot chocolate) tonight and I'm hoping it'll start the festive spirit. Was thinking about maybe getting a tree on Sunday too.

I am so happy! I've been so worried about the baby being breech but I've felt hiccups for 5mins now and they are very, very low. Makes me really pleased that my bump has dropped now!

Felix90 · 29/11/2013 13:07

Enormouse your day sounds great. I want to get in the festive spirit but I'm not feeling it at the moment. German markets are on in town and this is the first year I've missed them since I moved here, and I'm gutted. Also just realised I don't have an advent calendar for the first time ever. Getting old. Bah humbug Hmm

MrsGSR · 29/11/2013 13:09

Frying good luck for your test :)

MrsVDB Glad the growth scan went well :) I've got short legs too, DH can only just squeeze into the driving seat after I've driven!

We're spending 2 weeks with family in Devon over Christmas so wont be decorating our house, but I will be playing Christmas music and getting very excited! Me and my sister have decided to cook gingerbread houses for everyone :)

MrABC · 29/11/2013 13:12

HumptyDumptyBumpty We got a bouncer from Amazon earlier today too. Only the odd good thing on there but guess that varies by personal taste.

Big thank you to MrsVDB Thanks for the heads-up on the Kiddicare discount, although you lot seem to be encouraging a bit too much spending! Grin Cashback at Kiddicare too!

extracrunchy · 29/11/2013 14:11

Tarka hooray!!! Smile

alteredimages · 29/11/2013 15:49

V impressed with everyone doing Black Friday and getting in to the festive spirit, though I'm a bit of a scrooge and would take the turkey and cranberry sauce over online shopping any day. Does all this black friday stuff mean that we will get to do Thanksgiving in the UK soon too?

Thanks for the Disneyland approval. DH still being boring but I am going to book tonight anyway. Also going to get DD a merida costume. Let's just hope she doesn't turn me into a bear!

Coming up for 36 weeks and wondering if it's too late to change my mind about the baby? Seems like too much work and I'm perfectly happy as things are, thank you very much.

I def have something going on down below. Sorry for tmi, but it's itchy red and swollen though no discharge. I'm thinking yeast infection/ thrush and felt much better after rinsing with antiseptic, but how worried should I be about this at this point in the pregnancy? Irritatingly my medical insurance has been cancelled and they are still processing the paperwork to get it back so if I can leave it til the beginning of next week I will. Planning to keep going with the antiseptic and maybe live yoghurt til then, and I am not going to Google!

MrsGSR · 29/11/2013 16:50

altered copied from the nhs website:
"Because of the changes going on in the body, pregnant women often get thrush, especially during the third trimester of pregnancy, but there is no evidence that thrush can harm an unborn baby."

Other than that it just says that some treatments aren't suitable during pregnancy so to get your GP to prescribe something that is.

I've heard lots of good things about love yoghurt, hope it helps!

MrsGSR · 29/11/2013 16:50

*live yoghurt!

TobyLerone · 29/11/2013 16:52

:o:o love yogurt. Is that like baby gravy?

BookTart · 29/11/2013 17:36

I will never look at Activia in the same way again Grin

Percypiglet · 29/11/2013 17:45

Anyone else been getting on and off period like cramps?! Weird, had it 3 times this week but the bump doesn't go hard, it just hurts low down...

So glad it is Friday, am knackered.

extracrunchy · 29/11/2013 17:55

Percy I have! Just ignoring them now as don't seem to go anywhere but ring your MW if you're worried.

MrsG be careful putting antiseptic down there as you need "good bacteria" to keep nasty thrushy ones at bay and wrong treatment will just kill both. Can you get an over the counter cream? They're safe in pregnancy and I think canesten pessaries are too - but not the pill.
