Ohhhhh no food! I can't stand the thought of food!!

Sorry. I am being grumpy!

wispaxmas · 06/11/2013 10:35

Alright, so baby shows are out. Though I wouldn't feel too pressured, I wouldn't think. I don't want everything, but there are quite few things I know we'll need, even if not right away: moses basket, cotbed, changing table/dresser, pram, sling, etc. And I think I would like the peace of mind to have all the essential bits, at least for getting out and about and sleeping, before baby comes. H only has 2 weeks paternity leave and he's pretty useless at shopping at the best of times, so anything else by needs, I'm going to have to go out and get it, and it would be good to have a pram or a sling to use Wink

What essentials did you find useless? I'm making my list based on advice from my sister mostly... and I know every baby is different, but what did you buy that you didn't need (ever)?

Oh, and I would have to agree that the department stores on Oxford Street make for a nice day out, but I always loved going into Selfridges and pretending I could actually buy the things there Grin. John Lewis is totally more my (bank account's) style, though.

wispaxmas · 06/11/2013 10:39

gin, have you not heard anything from the midwife yet?? I got my booking appt set up when I was about 8 weeks, set for 10+3, but I was starting to worry and planned to phone them if I hadn't heard by the end of that week.

Give them a call. They might not be the ones who arrange your scan date though. My GP referred me separately for the scan, as it's done in a different hospital to the local midwives. If you had your GP refer you, call your surgery and get the direct phone number(s) to call them yourself.

GinandStripes · 06/11/2013 11:16

My Doctor thinks but isn't sure that Homerton try and do the booking-in at the same time as the scan. It's been 3 weeks yesterday since I went to the doctors, so I'm thinking I'll leave it till next Wednesday and then call to check they have received the referral. I'll be 9+2 by then, so still bags of time really.

CleverOl10 · 06/11/2013 11:17

Phew had a really busy pregnancy related morning! Glad to be sat down!

I'm 9 weeks today. Was getting my DS ready for nursery and myself ready for my booking appt (yay finally!) when morning sickness hit me - first actual sickness of this pregnancy - eugh. Knocked me for 6. Had to phone DH to come home from work and drive us to nursery/appt. Booking appt went well - no blood tests though (thank goodness!) as they will be done at the 12 week scan but lovely midwife. Apparently I'm on two carepaths - one for high BMI which means a check at 28 weeks for diabetes, and one because my son was really small last pregnancy (5.7) so I get two extra scans at 30 weeks and 36 weeks, which is nice. Scan date should come through in the next few days.

She then gave me my pg notes - last time it was paper and I could fold it and hide it in my bag. This time its a big plastic folder! I live in a small town and know a lot of people so had to walk home with it hidden under my coat - looking a right weirdo!

Then my mum called. I haven't told her yet as I want to tell her in person and I'll see her in two weeks. Last time I was pregnant she planned a holiday on my due date so I had to tell her really early so she could cancel it! Today she starts telling me about a family trip she's planning for the end of May - argh!!! As I'm panicking about how to get out of it, she tells me its all fallen through so she's not going to bother - phew!

The quicker this pregnancy is out in the open, the better. But I just want a couple more weeks to feel secure before telling DS so he can then tell everyone!

(Sorry for long post - no one else to share this with as DH at work!)

Mitchell2 · 06/11/2013 11:25

Hi gin let me know what you think of Homerton. I have been referred to the Royal London and I have not heard good things about it. I am pretty much smack bang between both and really would appreciate some first hand knowledge re Homerton as I am erring on the side of asking to be transferred there instead.

MTMD · 06/11/2013 11:43

Sorry to hear some still feeling rotten. My nausea is back as well. 20 min til lunch break, planning to get something curd based as I don't think I can swallow anything else. I personally th

MTMD · 06/11/2013 11:45

.... Sorry...

I think it's ok to call in sick. Think about it - most people with food poisoning would do without thinking twice! And that's what it feels like, doesn't it?

Anyone planning to use Whittington hospital? Their MLU sounds v appealing if you're lucky enough to get it.,

GinandStripes · 06/11/2013 11:46

Ooooh Mitchell I am bang in the middle of them too! I had the option of Royal London or Homerton and have heard some good things about Homerton, also thought it would nice to walk through Victoria Park for appointments or there is a bus that pretty much goes from my flat to the hospital.

Lmf679 · 06/11/2013 12:10

Am in Waltham Forest but they are sending me to homerton, I got my scan date through yesterday but no booking appointment so not sure if they do it at the same time? Weirdly my scan is not at homerton though it's at langthorne

GinandStripes · 06/11/2013 12:20

Lmf679 when did you see your doctor? Being even more impatient now!

ohcluttergotme · 06/11/2013 12:39

Aw clever at least you've done well to this far without any morning sickness, maybe it will be short lived.
I totally sympathise, I feel awful, been off sick since Monday and feel exhausted with the smallest tasks, don't know how I'm going to manage a full day at work!
I just went to the garage and they had a 4 pack of twirls on offer for £1 (bargain) I've sat and ate 2 and really want the other 2, bad, bad, bad!! Shock

Mitchell2 · 06/11/2013 12:39

Ah Gin sounds like we are neighbors as I'd have to got through the park also to get there! Let me know how you go - I didn't get a choice (the MW was rubbish tho to be honest) but I may transfer as although I think the Royal is brilliant for emergencies on the fence re maternity from the comments that I have heard.

Lmf679 - interested to hear your views as well

Lmf679 · 06/11/2013 12:41

Gin I only went last Tuesday so appointment came through pretty quick

GinandStripes · 06/11/2013 12:48

Oooh Lmf679 now I'm super jealous - hoping the postman has brought me something special today!

Mitchell sounds like we possibly are, even though I just looked at a map and I'm more bang in the middle and over to the east some more.

NessieMcFessie · 06/11/2013 13:03

DD is still being sick everywhere - I am so sick of sick, and today I have a really upset tummy - and I have so many report cards to write....

I also might be slightly hormonal. On the bright side - my new boots arrived from the UK today!

Waitinggame8 · 06/11/2013 13:30

Hi ladies hoping I can join the group? I'm currently 8 weeks with estimated due date of 15th June and at the feeling rotten and sore stage.
Not yet throwing up but might as well be as I am just feeling rubbish all the time.
1st appointment with midwife next Wednesday so counting down to that and my scan on the 4th December.

My OH is being amazing, he is the one actually making me slow down as I would normally just try and carry on as normal at work and then regret it on the weekend! And he is also taking charge of planning our wedding in February so all I need to worry about is how big I will be in January and finding a dress to fit.

Ohcluttergone, I see you are in Edinburgh too, let me know how it goes with the MW tomorrow as I assume we will have the same process so good to know what to expect. We could end up in the wards at the same time!

BEEwitched · 06/11/2013 13:33

I'm freezing, knackered and dead on my feet and not sure I'll get that leave I applied for. Honestly don't know how I'm supposed to survive a full day at work if I don't get it, it'd take my past those mythical 12 weeks and hopefully I'd be better by then.

Move would be sorted, too...

Stacks · 06/11/2013 13:51

I feel awful :( I've got a cold, was out late last night at a dinner, then my DS was up in the night and up at 6:45 this morning. I feel sick and tired and can't stop coughing and sneezing, and DS is being really clingy and whining constantly and I just want to go hide somewhere warm and dark. woe is me

Haven't managed to read back through the thread, been too tired to post or read much, but don't want to lose you all.

Interesting seeing how many of us are in Edinburgh. I think it's 4 now? All the other threads I've been on have had no one in Scotland in, let alone Edinburgh. Maybe we can sort a meet up sometime when we're further along, and have lots more energy.

Lmf679 · 06/11/2013 13:57

waitingame have you tried two birds bridesmaid dresses for your dress? They come in ivory and are nice dresses, they fit a range of sizes as it's all about how you wrap and style the dress so you won't have to worry too much about getting bigger, as you have a bit of time you could also add beading or brooches to dress up and make it look more wedding dress? I looked at them for my bridesmaid last year as she has just given birth so I didn't want to pressure her into losing weight.

carrie105 · 06/11/2013 14:06

Welcome waitinggame8!!

oh no Nessiemcfessie it must be dreadful to have even more sickness than you already had to deal with. Fingers crossed for you it gets better for your DD really soon.

So sorry you have got a cold stacks. I hope you get better soon too.

It made me think of something I hadn't considered before, what happens if you have a really bad cold when you go into labour? Dreadful! It must happen.. best not to think about, especially as we all have Summer babies.

Glad to say that I dragged myself to a Body Pump class this morning feeling decidedly sicky and came out feeling pretty great (for me at the moment). I did have a 5 minute cry in the shower afterwards though, over I have no idea what. It must be a combination of pregnancy hormones and exercising hormones(!)

ohcluttergotme · 06/11/2013 14:23

Welcome Waitinggame, glad you found thread, think you'll find many people going through similar symptoms to what you are! My scan is the day after you, 5th December so yep never know we could be at the royal same time next June!
Beewitched, if you really feel so awful could you be signed off, your entitled to 7 days on a self certificate which might give you time to recover, I've been off work since Monday and hoping to take it easy and be back next week but was making myself ill.
Stacks, it's great to know there are other Edinburgh mums, would love to meet up, so sympathise with your little boy being clingy, I feel it's like my little boy senses I'm not functioning at full power and it's making him feel insecure and he is so clingy, it's so hard though Hmm

ohcluttergotme · 06/11/2013 14:24

Well done on your class Carrie, I'm thinking of renewing my gym membership as not sleeping well and think a swim every night or some yoga or palates would help Smile

BEEwitched · 06/11/2013 14:31

Clutter, I'm already on sick leave, I wanted to avoid being off even longer on a sick line so will have to see. Mental health issues are cropping up a well, so it's the whole package deal at the moment.

Welcome Waitinggame!!!!

ohcluttergotme · 06/11/2013 14:35

Just need to do what is right for you beewitched and if it means being off longer then don't feel guilty, be selfish.
The hormones may be triggering mental health problems, if you feel better at home and safer then I would ask for your line to be increased. People take sick leave for much less.
Hope you feel better soon, it's a tough time, I honestly wish all pregnant women were allowed the first trimester off
