John Lewis on Oxford street is pretty good for a day out Grin

jaykay987 · 05/11/2013 22:27

I went to a couple of wedding ones. It was good to collect a load of leaflets so I could peruse lots of websites. Not sure I want to go n my own...and pretty convinced I won't be able to convince DH.

Im Surrey too (but work in central London).

Bezzabelle · 05/11/2013 22:28

Wispa, I think the trouble with these shows is that they prey on hormonal pregnant woman and make you believe you need lots of stuff for your baby.... Reality is you don't! I know when I even walked into mothercare when pg with ds, I walked around in a daze at all the stuff and felt overwhelmed! In the end I asked friends who already had children what was essential and went from there. I also used some things second hand and glad I did as barely used some of it and would have been annoyed about spending money!! For example, I used a baby bath twice!! When he was tiny, I bathed him in the sink and then my dh used to bath with him for some bonding time and he then went straight in big bath. I think as long as you go with a list in mind and don't get talked in to buying things you don't need, then go along!

jaykay987 · 05/11/2013 22:38

Anyone having stomach muscle pains?
I regularly get sharp pains when I go from sitting upright to standing. These tend to be just higher than the groin at the very top of each leg (I started getting these on the left before I got my BFP, they now are more regularly on the right).
Then when I sneeze, particularly if Im sitting upright again, I get sharp pains across my stomach. Kind of from the sides meeting at my belly button.

The pains don't last long but can really take my breath away (or bring a tear to my eye!).

Just wondered if this was normal?

Emmazers · 05/11/2013 22:51

Jaykay Totally normal. I've had them from the start of both my pregnancies. I suspect it's related to the increase in relaxin that means everything's a bit baggier than usual. Tense your muscles before you sneeze or get up!

jaykay987 · 05/11/2013 22:52

Thanks emmazers. Good to know! Grin

Vickyvix · 05/11/2013 22:54

I'm in SW London - looking forward to getting a baby inboard badge!

I've had the pains when I sneeze too, have to lean forwards to sneeze now so it doesn't hurt!

Have just blubbed through a fireworks display, the music made me really emotional Blush

Vickyvix · 05/11/2013 22:55

Inboard, on board, same difference

rainbowweaver · 06/11/2013 01:32

North Hampshire here. And no you don't need to buy anything at all for your baby until after it's born. Except for car seat, a pack of nappies and some baby grows for the first couple of weeks. It just needs you. Grin

Speaking as someone who knew nothing about babies until after I had my first, and have bought a few things that have been entirely unused.

rainbowweaver · 06/11/2013 01:34

Adding me again...!

Was crying yesterday reading the mumsnet classic of quotes that catch your throat. But then that would make anyone cry.

littlepickly · 06/11/2013 06:53

Jaykay - yes totally get the pains across the front of my tummy too - normally when standing up too quickly so have to try and remember to do it more carefully and look like an old lady!! Think I had it in early stages of last pg too.

GillyBillyWilly · 06/11/2013 07:37

Catching up from last night... I'm in SE London Smile

OP posts:
cheesysmile · 06/11/2013 07:50

Wow this thread seems to move quickly ... I don't get to check in that much, but fun reading over breakfast Smile

Bee a new house is exciting isn't it, although the actual moving was really tiring. I'm now surrounded by boxes but really don't feel like unpacking after work. Its all here now though so figure most can wait til the weekend.

Woken up with a horrid sore throat today and feel like getting start of a cold. Goodness I moan a lot recently, sure my dh must be getting fed up with me.

Wispa don't think I'd fancy a baby fair, thats only based on the one wedding one I went to though which had me running for the door! I'm hoping some of my friends might have stuff they don't want anymore that I could buy second hand off them as guess most things don't last all that long.

SarahAnderson · 06/11/2013 08:32

North London here!

MTMD · 06/11/2013 08:32

Morning all!

I'm at work! Huge relief! I got BoB badge and it was handy even though no one actually offered a seat, in one packed carriage everyone suddenly looked down or closed their eyes, seriously!! But then someone got up to leave and no one dared to snatch a seat in front of a pregnant lady! :)

I live in N London but work in SE London, wouldn't mind a meet up!

Oh and my tummy is really painful, increasingly so as time goes by. But then I suppose it's busy adapting so probably normal.

Good day everyone. DH treated me to some pancakes in bed and so I have the energy to make it through the morning, hopefully!

MarlenaGru · 06/11/2013 08:46

I do understand wanting everything new for a first baby. I certainly did, but the realisation this time round that I have so much less money thanks to DD to spend on baby stuff (I have given all of mine away as I was confident we would only have one) and also the fact that we barely used any of the essentials last time.

superlambanana · 06/11/2013 09:09

I am SO fed up. Nausea has well and truly turned into vomiting Sad Before it was just when I cleaned my teeth but this morning I've not even got that far!

I'm so worried about work - they're lovely, and the office knows, but I feel like I'm taking the mickey. I've got so much to do!! It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have over an hour's commute Sad

SarahAnderson · 06/11/2013 09:21

Got my scan date yesterday. 11 Dec. Woohoo! It was accompanied by a very scary book about sickle cell, down's syndrome, etc.

Didn't actually tell me how to access all the various blood tests, but I assume that will become obvious in due course...

SarahAnderson · 06/11/2013 09:22

My cravings at the moment seem to centre on fatty food - chips, croissants.... Not sure this is terribly healthy!

I did have to leave a meeting yesterday and have some emergency nuts as I was so starving I thought I might pass out. Problem is that I can't face food due to queasiness, but then I'm just starving all the time.

LadyGoneGaga · 06/11/2013 09:31

Super could you say you're feeling poorly but are going to try and do somse stuff from home. IME they are normally pleased you are doing something and it would avoid the commute. you could have a nap in the afternoon as well?

Sarah I'm finding I have to be constantly eating little and often otherwise I feel sick. Dry crackers to nibble on are good, a few grapes, a handful of nuts, a ginger biscuit, slice of melon - you get the idea. Otherwise I feel really ropey.

I finally got my booking appt - not until right at the end of November though! I'll be 10.5 weeks by LMP by then! They'd better get my scan booked in. My early scan is on Monday...feeling nervous and it's not for another 5 flipping days.

superlambanana · 06/11/2013 09:54

I can't even get up off the bed again Sad

GillyBillyWilly · 06/11/2013 10:06

DH and I are both off work today and suddenly I have an overpowering need for a big all day breakfast somewhere!

OP posts:
GinandStripes · 06/11/2013 10:15

So Jealous of people getting their booking-in and scan dates.

I am SO impatient.

I'm fearful that I won't be able to stop eating today! Doesn't help that this weeks food shopping has just arrived, so I'm faced with lots of exciting treats. Just been eating toasted crumpets dunked in maple syrup, as I can't face melted butter!

ohcluttergotme · 06/11/2013 10:19

Just trying to catch up with thread. People are still posting when I've long gone to bed, I am so so tired just now.
I also get those pains and reassuring to know not just me, I thought it was because I'm putting on weight.
I'm Edinburgh.
Booking in with midwife tomorrow Smile
Saw someone's name was jellybean and now have a craving Smile
