Glad I'm not the only one - DH and I will be happy with a healthy child but we both would love a girl and suspect it might be a girl, so I want to find out beforehand.

I know myself and I know there's a risk I might feel slightly disappointed if the 'surprise' is a boy, whereas I'll be ok if I find out early!

noseymcposey · 31/10/2013 17:35

it's sounds horrible doesn't it but that's what I felt like! I knew I secretly wanted a girl though I would NEVER have admitted that at the time and the truth is it did take a bit of getting used to that it was a boy so it was the right thing to do. Now I actually have a boy and realise how fabulous they are I'd quite like another one but because I already have DS plus 2 older DSS's a girl might be nice too. Either way, I'm easy! Nothing wrong with being a bit silly as long as you know you're being silly ifyswim!!

VickyVix · 31/10/2013 17:42

Evening ladies, so sad to hear of PJen and London's sad news. Hugs to both if you read this Thanks

snow that sounds so stressful but really pleased to hear your scan went well in the end :)

Congrats on your scan too liquid glad it went well :)

I got my appointment dates through the post today so counting down to booking in appointment on 15th and my nuchal scan on 27th..........so my two week wait starts tomorrow! So happy to have dates to focus on.

I'm in a massive dilemma over whether to cancel a ski holiday or not, I have to decide by Saturday - I could go and ski, or go and not ski, or just not go - really can't decide.......I would be around 16 weeks when we are due to go all being well. Any thoughts?

I wanted to hear the heartbeat to be sure everything is real which would make the decision easier but if I have scan before Saturday I will be anywhere between 6+3 and 8+0 and if it's closer to 6+3 I don't think I'd hear the heartbeat anyway?? Anyone heard it that early?

VickyVix · 31/10/2013 17:45

Should have added, I would want to find before baby arrives, totally happy with boy or girl, but think I'd like to know beforehand!

pomdereplay · 31/10/2013 17:52

Hi all, hope everyone's well. I am very sorry to hear from those who have lost their babies -- as a RCM sufferer I do empathise deeply. Be kind to yourselves, take the time you need to heal and if you're trying again I really hope to hear some happier news soon. Flowers

I have been rather quiet lately because my own baby has been a bit problematic. Early scan revealed a possibility of two babies sharing a yolk and amniotic sac. Week later, a follow up scan wasn't much more helpful. Ultimately, there is definitely one baby in there, heart beating away happily, growing steadily. But! There is still something else too -- same size as baby 1, heartbeat possibly visualised in some views, but with an 'atypical' appearance. Sad Despite the sonographer having the whole department come and take a look, nobody could be sure of what is going on. My retroverted uterus doesn't help matters apparently.

So, another 10 day wait for me. Possibilities are it is a failing twin pregnancy, a successful twin pregnancy, or something else altogether (eek!). Quite seriously nobody knows, so I am just having to get on with it in the meantime. Oh, and I have been diagnosed with hyperemesis. Help!

If ANYONE has experienced anything similar I would be most interested to hear your stories! Feel a bit of a freakshow at the local hospital right now!

cheesysmile · 31/10/2013 18:07

Congrats on your scan liquid Smile

Pomder I can't help Im afraid, must be difficult for you not knowing what's going on, whatevers happening I hope it ends up as good news for you.

Vicky I prob wouldn't ski but thats coz im not very good or confident at skiing. Do they have other activities where you are going, some places have more than others don't they. Might be a bit boring if you don't ski and everyone else is though?

superlambanana · 31/10/2013 18:08

Glad to hear good scan stories though I don't envy your confusing one pom! Hope it's all okay - sounds like you might end up with two bundles of joy Smile

Apparently my body doesn't like sweetcorn any more Angry

Liquidambar · 31/10/2013 18:25

I have just realised how insensitive my post was, right after London's news. Sad

Pom that is very confusing! I hope you are okay, must be stressful.

Clever I hope you will have a nice relaxing evening

Vicky I am the worst skier in the world! It really depends on what you want to do. You can always relax during the day, go for walk, perhaps swim...

MTMD · 31/10/2013 18:56

I always wanted a girl but as soon as I got pregnant I stopped caring either way! DH would love a girl but to be honest they don't make them in his family. Generations and generations of boys! As for finding out, I don't mind but DH wants to know so we'll ask when the time comes :)

Chica, I really don't think you can find out at 9 weeks :)

Vicky I would go to soak up the atmosphere and hot chocolate. Wouldn't ski though.

Pom are blood tests any help?? Surely they could indicate single/multiple pregnancy..?

jaykay987 · 31/10/2013 18:56

pom wow - that sound confusing! FX you get an answer soon.

Vicky If it was a good group of friendd I'd probably - spend my days snuggling under a duvet or shopping and then be ready to socialising the evening. If I was only going for the skiing and the company was....average, I'd probably pullout!

liquid congratulations! such great news!

It's funny how differently we see things. I'm hoping for a healthy girl - and don't want to find out in advance as I think being presented with a wiggly screaming happy and healthy boy will be happier for me, than finding out it's a boy earlier.
I understand people wanting to get their head around it - just don't think that would work for me! Smile

not really looked at peaks yet.....I'm quite superstitious!Grin

LadyGoneGaga · 31/10/2013 19:23

Vicky I skied in my first pregnancy but was booked and paid for before I knew was pregnant. I was about 22 weeks I think? I was just very careful, only skied greens and blues, had lots of hot chocolate stops, only skied quiet pistes. But, the one thing you can't legislate for is some idiot coming and hitting you from behind. And you do have to adjust as your centre of balance is in a different place. I'm pretty sporty though and do know quite a few women who skied with no issues, and plenty who decided not to. It's a very personal decision. We aren't skiing this year because I think I'd feel too frustrated having to take it easy! Skiiing holidays can be a bit boozy as well which is also setting yourself up for feeling deprived!

Glad to hear of some good scans. Pom must be a bit of a worry but good one definitely healthy baby ion there. Hopefully will all become clear soon.

Magpie78 · 31/10/2013 19:40

Hi all, hope you have all had relatively good non-nauseous days. Had a lot of stretchy, crampy type pains today and am definitely developing a belly....although that could be from the millions of bags of crisps consumed. Am trying not to worry about the pains and remain calm, they have said as I have a tilted uterus that back pain will be on the menu for the next few weeks and wow is it!
Have my second midwife appt on Tuesday, last time she gave me the pack and my notes and I have to fill some bits in with OH. She said once Tuesday is done she will book me for my 12 week scan. The last few weeks have gone by so slowly...

VickyVix · 31/10/2013 19:43

Thanks for the advice ladies, it's just me and DH that would be going so I'm of the school of thought that the trip will be what we make it, but I'm not sure i would ski much, if at all, and I'm worried DH may be bored with a non drinking, non skiing wife! I have another day to mull it over......

Mitchell2 · 31/10/2013 19:44

vicky I had a scan at 6+4 on the weekend. Couldn't hear a heartbeat but could see it :)

VickyVix · 31/10/2013 19:46

Thanks mitchell good to know

Emmazers · 31/10/2013 19:52

Wonderful news liquid and I don't think you were being insensitive at all.

Vix my mum skied when she was pregnant with my brother. I probably would go and ski gently in your situation but as someone else said I might find it a bit frustrating taking it easy on both the slopes and the wine Wink

Feeling SO sick and tired today. I'd conveniently forgot how back this makes me feel. I'm totally useless! I'm going for some acupuncture tomorrow though, which should hopefully help.

Penguin13 · 31/10/2013 20:01

Liquid so happy for you that everything is all ok with your little bean.

Pom sorry things are so confused for you right now really hope you get some answers soon.

I have a question for you ladies. One of the million things my mw mentioned to me was to make sure I regularly do my pelvic floor exercises. I know you're meant to do them anyway but I've never really been that consistent at it. Any tips for making sure I fit them in? Those who aren't first-timers how good were you about doing your exercises your previous time (s) round and do you think they actually made a positive difference? How many do you think is good to aim for?

RaRa1988 · 31/10/2013 20:07

Hey all, just catching up after a couple of days away. Really sorry to PJen and London - terrible news. I hope you're both as ok as you can be Flowers

Congratulations to everyone who's had an early scan Smile. I had my second one today at 7+5 and everything's still good. Baby has nearly trebled in size since the last scan at 6+1!! And the sac is three weeks ahead of the baby in size, mysteriously. Apparently that explains why I've been feeling so sick and it's not a problem as baby is measuring exactly right, but I'm intrigued as to why it's happened.... Hmm

littlepickly · 31/10/2013 21:01

Penguin I was hopeless at doing my pelvic floor exercises first time round and so wish I had been better - I hate the feeling of doing them so just didn't bother that much!! I have had more than a few coughs, laughs, sneezes that have been accompanied by a bit of wee since having my DD! I would definitely recommend doing them whenever you think about it - in fact I'm doing some now that you have mentioned it Smile

Bezzabelle · 31/10/2013 21:02

Vicky- my sil is gp and her and her friend went skiing with husbands when they were both pg in the first trimester and they both mc few days after they got back, no evidence but they are both convinced it was the altitude.... Not sure if this helps or is just scary.

So sorry for london and Pom, fingers crossed for you.

littlepickly · 31/10/2013 21:04

Vix I would definitely go and ski as much as you feel comfortable with - we haven't been skiing since before DD and I would jump at the chance.

It'll be a nice opportunity for you and DH to have some time together before baby comes along too. You may miss the boozy après ski but it's such a nice environment to be in - the break and a little bit of exercise will probably be just what you need!

Magpie78 · 31/10/2013 21:54

Vicky I saw heartbeat at 6 + 5 but think it is going to be right around the time where you may or may not so could end up more worrying.

Magpie78 · 31/10/2013 22:21

Is anyone else getting cramps or just me? Sad

superlambanana · 31/10/2013 22:26

Yes Magpie, big time! Doctor said today she's not worried but to rest and keep an eye on it. Go and get checked out if you're stressing - made me feel better. Mentally, anyway - MS has hit big time Hmm Not actually been sick but feeling horrendous!

Magpie78 · 31/10/2013 22:31

Thank you super thought I was the only one! Know where you're coming from with the nausea, sometimes I think it would be easier if I was just sick as then I might feel better. Really appreciate your post, has made me feel a lot better Thanks
