I had quite a day yesterday.
Wednesday evening, started spotting. Ignored it (aside from googling frantically the entire evening). Was very pale brown and not scary-looking.
Thursday morning, got heavier and pinker. Then actually red. At the same time, the slight pain on my right side which had been there for about 12 hours got much worse. To the extent that I was doing special breathing when I was walking.
What was really on my mind was ectopic.
Decided I had to tell one of the GPs I work with and ask her opinion. Was really torn because this is, sort of, 'telling someone at work' although of course as a GP she is a huge respecter of confidentiality in these matters, and I knew she wouldn't tell anyone. But still. I'd rather have gone to my normal GP but that was halfway across London, no guarantee of getting an appointment, I had an afternoon of meetings, etc...
Told her, she interrupted me after about five seconds and said, "You have to get a scan TODAY." She is usually very wise and calm and doesn't overreact, so you can imagine this was a little scary. She agreed that ectopic was a possibility (although did emphasise to me that it was rare) and needed to be ruled out.
I work really near Harley St, so I managed to get a private appointment for a scan only 3 hours later. My husband came too. By the time of the appointment I had COMPLETELY CONVINCED MYSELF that it was ectopic. I'd already grieved and said goodbye... to the baby and also to my right tube, based on more frantic googling!
Best £100 we ever spent. The baby is fine. Everything is healthy. It's not ectopic. It's a random unexplainable minor bleed, and a random unexplainable pain in my side. We saw the world's smallest heartbeat! (I'm only about 6 weeks)
Told the GP again, and she said basically from now on, ectopic having been excluded, ignore any minor bleeding and minor pains.
Woohoo!
