New thread for our little junebugs!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oh and the other thing is, I work in a fairly high risk environment so I need to tell my employer soon-ish, but would like to know that I have something to tell them, if you know what I mean.

bludgerwitch · 20/10/2013 19:58

Everybody at work knows, I was more comfortable letting my boss know and I'm not good at keeping things to myself - even if things went wrong I'd be happier if people knew about it.

My mom was 38 and overweight when she had my brother and it was an absolutely uncomplicated pregnancy. I'm 31 and overweight don't worry too much about it - I do want have the nuchal scan (it's not standard in NI), but the Harmony test is about £1000 here and if the results of the nuchal look doubtful I'd rather have an amnio.

First I have to get through the scan on Tuesday, though..

jaykay987 · 20/10/2013 20:02

Gilly - that sounds like a great couple of weeks! Id love to go to Disney!

Jessie - my sickness has really kicked in today too. Hope you're feeling ok. That sounds like a good plan re your mum and sister. I need to speak to DH, but think we will try and keep it from everyone until 12 weeks (12months eh? You'll have trouble keeping your baby quiet! Wink)
I am fit to bursting...really need him to come home so I can tell him! Smile

jaykay987 · 20/10/2013 20:05

Bludger - thats good to hear about your choices.

I don't have to go back into my office until end of feb - so Im hoping to keep it quiet until then. If my local team or my client notice - I don't think they'll mention it. FX I don't get called into the office for something else!

Unoriginalusername123 · 20/10/2013 20:06

I'm dreading telling work... but on the upside I've just been reading about maternity allowance (as opposed to maternity pay). I've been contracting for about 7 years (and only claimed jobseekers for 1 month in that whole time) so am really, really excited that I'm actually entitled to something. My boyfriend (AKA future single household earner) seems relieved too! Phew!

On the subject of nausea, the best / only thing I've found is having some biscuits by the side of the bed. The first thing I do every morning is take my folic acid, vitamin D and eat a biscuit. Otherwise I'd be collapsing by the time I go in the shower.

I sent my boyfriend off to buy Ben & Jerry's last night - that also seemed to settle my stomach and queasiness!

jessieagain, I haven't told the family yet. It's only me, my boyfriend and the midwife that know. It'll be the first the grandchild on both sides of the family so there will be lots of excitement, but I'd just like to reign it in until the 12 weeks are up.....

CooCooCachoo · 20/10/2013 20:26

About the age thing, in my experience it seems most mums at baby and toddler groups are in their 30s and 40s. I was quite surprised about the number who were in their 40s to be honest. There are quite a few, even first time mums.

One thing I've found is that older mums do seem to have their dc close together with small age gaps, so there are plenty out there who have no problems conceiving and giving birth at an older age!

It is much rarer in my experience to meet mums in their early 20s.

jessieagain · 20/10/2013 20:32

jaykay Grin 12 months! That is another symptom, serious baby brain. Today I very carefully sorted the recycling and the rubbish..... into completely the wrong bins!!

KittyBubbles · 20/10/2013 20:41

Reading all your posts has made me feel very nostalgic! Its so weird going through this a second time as I feel like I know roughly what to expect and am not as worried as I was first time.

No symptoms other than back ache and an aching belly like last time. MS kicked in for me slap bang on 6weeks last time and lasted till 16 weeks. Boy was it nasty. Apparently second time around you feel baby kicking earlier so I'm looking forward to that. My DD was a big baby (10lb 4oz) but I am not too overweight (12 st, 5foot 7") so I'm curious to see what the midwives will do this time around!

Dont worry too much about what you're eating in the first trimester - eating anything and keeping it down became my main goal till MS passed! It's your bodies way of telling you it needs a certain food. A friend had an almost 10lb baby but ate healthily throughout her pregnancy so in the end I don't think it makes too much of a difference (at least that's what I told myself whilst eating cake and chocolate!)

GillyBillyWilly · 20/10/2013 20:58

Bloody hell I'm so tired! Going to sleep!
Night all Smile

MrsB2013 · 20/10/2013 21:01

Sorry didn't mean to make everyone over 30 feel old lol

I know the risk of downs is higher when you're over 35, but I had a friend who was 24 and had to terminate as he was downs but also had a serious heart defect, she was told quite late on, think it must of been the 20 week scan :(

The reason I'd want the Harmony test, is if there was something wrong I'd like to know as early as possible

MrsB2013 · 20/10/2013 21:02

I don't feel pregnant yet, should I be worried Confused

wispaxmas · 20/10/2013 21:04

Gin, I'm currently booked in for a hospital in the borough of bromley, but it's looking like I'll have to transfer to surrey east! It's a bit hard to start out there, though.

OP posts:
ohcluttergotme · 20/10/2013 21:04

I've been off on annual leave for the past week and since getting my BFP, dreading going back tomorrow Hmm
Also sleep is rubbish just now, I'm so so tired, go to bed then need a million trips to the loo for a wee thru the night then wake so early wide awake then shattered all day!
Anyways off to bed as so tried, night all and all the little JuneBugs Smile xx

wispaxmas · 20/10/2013 21:06

Penguin, I've also not been eating all that well. MS kicked in this week, and sometimes I reach for an apple, but more often than it it ends up being a madeleine!

MTMD · 20/10/2013 21:07

I imagine that everyone has a horror story to tell but please give a little thought to all anxious pregnant ladies over here. I would appreciate if such messages came with trigger warning or something similar. Thank you.

wispaxmas · 20/10/2013 21:09

Mrsb, I didn't feel pregnant until last week and I'm almost 8 weeks now!

OP posts:
jaykay987 · 20/10/2013 21:22

Rookie question.......what's the difference between conception and pregnancy vitamins. Do I need to switch quickly? Or can I just finish the packet before I buy new ones?

Thanks!

giraffelegs · 20/10/2013 21:25

Thanks for updating the list jaykay. My due date is 12 June. If somebody could update it that would be great as I am on my phone.

With DD I ate a hideous amount of cake but so far I am preferring to reach for some fruit. Most unlike me! Hmm I have also just polished off a bowl of pickled onions, mmmmm. Not looking forward to work, I just want to sleep.

Squiglettsmummy2bx · 20/10/2013 21:36

All seems to have gone funny on FB and it seems that many want the group just for bc members not mumsnet so I have created a June 2014 baby bus for any of us that what to join. Please pm me your email & I will try & add you if you want to :-)

jessieagain · 20/10/2013 21:39

I just noticed I'm not on the list either. Due date 1 July. If someone could add me I'd appreciate it :)

My plan is to try and snack on savoury things when I'm hungry not sugar, or else I just go overboard with biscuits, cake and chocolate. Also with ds I always had a big main meal for lunch as by evening I seemed to not want to eat much and this way it meant I had my main meal everyday.

LadyGoneGaga · 20/10/2013 21:44

Have updated the list.

Jaykay use your vitamins. As long as you're taking folic acid the rest is just a bonus so finish what you have left.

Squiglett I think a Mumsnet group would be much better anyway so thanks for setting up. I haven't visited the Babycentre Facebook but from what I know of the two sites, Babycentre is different in "tone" to Mumsnet. Mumsnet Mum's are much more pragmatic, sensible and funny. Over at Babycentre they'll be forever fretting about carrying cakes and calling each other "Hunni". Also if a group is too big it's hard to get to know everyone and offer support properly. Will PM you (please make sure it's a private group though as not ready to be outed as a preggo to all and sundry just yet!)

Stacks · 20/10/2013 21:55

I forgot how quickly these threads move with so many people on them.

I think I'm due June 28th, if someone could add me to the list. It's awkward to do from my phone. Thanks!

I think I'm going to go to the dr tomorrow, see if they're interested in the fact I'm pregnant.. I also need the flu jab, anyone else done theirs yet?

jessieagain · 20/10/2013 21:57

Sorry, it's me again. Thanks for adding my lady but I'm 1 July (didn't want to start July group as feels too early and I'd be lonely) :)
