I'm sure it would be better for one parent to speak one language only to the baby, but exactly as you say, not really doable when you want the other one to understand. And what about later, how can you have discussions around the dinner table if you and the kid speak to each other only in a language DH won't understand?

So I hope 3 languages in our case won't be too confusing. Although was just visiting PILs today and they constantly switch between French and Alsatian (which is not a French dialect, but German). We will ask that they speak French only, but I don't expect them to remember. Yes, we'll have one very confused child.

Sooo, Elodie slept solidly without feeds from 7pm-2.30am, which is the longest she has ever managed. Grin Grin Grin

.... but now she is bloody wide awake. Gah!!

janey1234 · 14/10/2013 03:48

And Miles appears to have still regressed - used to need one night feed at 4-5am. Currently on the second so far. Also gah!!

BelissimaLol · 14/10/2013 08:13

I've also done two feeds. What's going on?? Having said that she slept from 9-3:30, fed, slept again till 6:30, fed again and is fast asleep at present so overall not too bad. Going swimming today GrinGrin

Quodlibet · 14/10/2013 10:33

Just had 31weeks appt and been referred for growth scan tomorrow as fundal height is only 28cm. I'm not really surprised - I've been thinking when not if as bump is v small still. I know there's lots of reasons not to worry but still a bit nervous to be honest.
Also got the midwife to agree to see me for 34 wk appt instead of crap GP which I am reassured by - if we are having to keep an eye on growth then I'd rather be seen by someone who knows what they are doing and actually has a Doppler.

MotherOfCleo · 14/10/2013 10:41

quod I wouldnt worry too much I measured 3cm under at one appointment but then had caught up by the next one so put on 5cm in 3 weeks. Blush Glad they are monitoring you well though!

Cavort · 14/10/2013 11:11

Quod I measured 2-3cm under for the whole pregnancy and was never sent for a scan and nobody ever seemed concerned. TBH it depends on who is measuring - at one appointment I had a student who measured me at 4cm under and then the MW had a go and measured me at 2cm under so that's a fair growth spurt in the space of 30 seconds. Smile

Elodie was awake from 02.30-05.30 after her fantastic initial 7.5 hour stretch Angry Angry Angry and she wasn't even awake but sleepy, she was absolutely wired, frantically waving her arms and legs and grinning at me so that was good fun. Sad She does this for a couple of hours with increasing regularity and I just don't know what to do about it. I follow all the common sense advice about not putting the light or TV on, don't pick her up except to feed, don't engage with her or make eye contact, etc. but it still happens. Her body clock is somehow set to be awake from 2-4am. Angry

Must be something in the air, pickle had a bad night too. Off for her 12 week jabs this afternoon so I'm guessing there's a good chance I'll be dealing with screaming all afternoon and OH isn't going to be home until about 9pm the swine, I'm sure he does it on purpose! Grin

Cavort · 14/10/2013 13:38

Purple Elodie turned into a one-day-only sleeping machine after hers so FX for you.

Purplemonster · 14/10/2013 13:50

Ooh! I really hope so, that would be nice!

janey1234 · 14/10/2013 18:40

Miles too - slept through the night is it wrong I'm half absolutely dreading, half looking forward to his 16 week jabs Wink

janey1234 · 14/10/2013 18:41

Strike through fail Angry

HazleNutt · 14/10/2013 19:56

We're in Turkey, Viki handled the travelling fine, but as he didn't sleep much, got a little grumpy in the evening. Sleeping happily now though. Will see what the night is like.

What do you all think about weaning? I know the official guidelines at the moment is 6 months, but there is some more recent research that again claims that 4-6 is better. So not sure now, maybe start at 5ish?

Cavort · 14/10/2013 20:50

Hazle I was just reading up on weaning a few days ago in a vain attempt to selfishly see if I could start early and get her to sleep better. I decided after reading this article on KellyMom that we will wait it out until 6-8 months as if she ends up with health/digestive problems I will probably always blame myself for early weaning. What research have you seen which says 4-6 is better? I would love to get her started earlier if I thought it would be ok.

Jealous of your holiday. Envy

janey1234 · 14/10/2013 21:22

I haven't read much yet cavort, but have heard that a few years ago the advice was to absolutely not give any solids at all before six months, but that now increased research has shown it's ok to start a bit sooner.

Haven't made my mind up about which advice I believe, because I haven't yet read up on it, but will probably just copy take the advice of the two paediatric consultants in the family who had a baby at around the same time as me. Will ask then their thoughts next time I see them and feed it back!

Hazle - have a fab hol. Freezing here so very jealous!

MotherOfCleo · 14/10/2013 21:29

I don't know about the current advice but I know when my mum had me and my brother the advice was solids from 3 months onwards. I don't know why they insist on changing the goal posts all the time. Confused

Purplemonster · 14/10/2013 21:49

Our local HV team are holding a weaning advice day soon so I'll go along and see what they say. With Lucy being so little for her age I'm not likely to wean early as milk has more calories but I'm interested in all of your opinions on it/what you've read as like you say, everyone seems to give such different advice.

Quodlibet · 14/10/2013 22:43

Ooh Hazle, enjoy Turkey - whereabouts are you? I want to go back there.

MotherOfCleo · 14/10/2013 23:32

Ewwww so I think the spider I just killed next to our bed was a false widow.....oh the joys Sad

Cavort · 15/10/2013 06:59

OM fucking G, Elodie has slept 2 x 30 minutes since 01.30. I am like a zombie. WTF is going on? Angry

OP posts:
janey1234 · 15/10/2013 07:10

Oh cavort. I was just coming on to moan but he's not been quite as bad as that.

Do you think they've reached the dreaded four month sleep regression already? And if not, surely it can't get worse?!

Cavort · 15/10/2013 07:14

I certainly hope so Janey as at least that means it will end at some point. Confused She's not particularly miserable/crying, just WONT SLEEP!! Angry Someone has switched my baby from the one I had a few weeks ago.

OP posts:
MotherOfCleo · 15/10/2013 07:27

oh no, naughty babies! Sad sounds like she's turned nocturnal cav Confused

Purplemonster · 15/10/2013 08:07

So after a bad start actually getting her to sleep, you were right, she slept all night I've just woken her up to feed as my boobs were about to go bang.

Don't envy me too much though as 1. You already told me this is a one off and 2. I had to get up at 3 something am anyway because the cat's arse had exploded and it smelled so bad that it woke OH and me both up...then he stayed in bed whilst I cleaned up cat diarrhoea up by the light of my phone so I didn't wake the baby up putting the light on. Charming.

BelissimaLol · 15/10/2013 08:24

Cav it definitely sounds like this sleep regression thing. How many weeks is she now?
I think we're having a growth spurt over here. Although she is still sleeping fairly well, I had to feed her at 2,6 and 8. She's now asleep on me and I'm scared to move her in case she wakes.
Purple you should have made dh clean up the cat shit tbh. You clean up the baby one so that's enough in my view. Also, in terms of him being home late, have you tried asking him do do a morning nappy before he goes to work? My dh hates it but I make him do it every Monday cause he goes to the pub and is not home till gone midnight.Grin
