boom we sold my gorgeous and much loved toyota aygo I am still sad about this and bought a very boring but very practical ford focus cmax. I am not a fan as it is a big boring silver box but it is nice and easy to drive, was good value to buy and has room for 2 in the front 2 (or 3) in the back and heaps of room in the boot for a pram and a basset hound.
We ideally wanted a nissan qashquai especially one of the ones with £35 road tax but couldn't afford one. The honda crv is meant to be good, our friends love theirs, but I was put off by the road tax!

janey1234 · 17/10/2013 13:19

Oh, and we too have decided not to really get him anything, as he won't notice and will get loads from other family members. Bad parents Blush

MotherOfCleo · 17/10/2013 13:59

janey we will probably do the same re christmas! We will be pretty skint so apart from buying him a christmas outfit I'll probably just let him play with the rustley paper and bows, plus we will be at my parents for the day so I'm sure they will spoil him!
The thought of getting us 2, a baby, a dog and presents to my parents is very scary, it'll be a military affair.

HazleNutt · 17/10/2013 14:37

Sorry have been a little quiet, wifi in the hotel not exactly great.

Cavort regarding weaning, an article here that says waiting as long as possible might not be a great idea:
www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2011/jan/14/six-months-breastfeeding-babies-scientists

boom I'd go for Honda or Toyota, especially if looking for second-hand ones, very reliable. I just bought a Mercedes B200 myself, which is surprisingly spacious and otherwise a great car, but not exactly budget-ish. But again, you shouldn't have much repair costs if you go for a reasonably now one.

About routine, we have not tried to do anything, but Viki has his own. The only thing I do is to put him to bed when he's looking sleepy. Works fine so far, he sleeps fine and is generally a happy baby.

Boomgoestheweasel · 17/10/2013 16:16

Thanks for all the advice! I do love my old-person Honda and we've never had a day of trouble from it, so I think I'll look into the CRVs (which I've never heard of before - I'm car illiterate). Mother those boot dividers look brilliant, will definitely be investing in those!

BelissimaLol · 17/10/2013 16:16

The whole reason why I resorted to the evil book is that I felt she was overtired yesterday and therefore not settling to sleep.
So today is day 1 of encouraging naps and it has gone pretty well I think. Napped at 10 for an hour (had to give her boob and let her fall asleep on it) and went for a long walk at 12, she slept for another hour. Now had a bit more of a struggle but she has gone down again with her head in my armpit so thats 3 napsGrinGrin
Let's see how bedtime and night go!!!
Re Xmas I'm not planning to buy anything either. Just a cute outfit.

Purplemonster · 17/10/2013 17:47

Arrgghhh! How are we supposed to understand weaning and make informed choices if they keep contradicting themselves? It's a minefield!

Boom - our CRV came with a picnic table that fits in the floor of the boot, how cool is that! (Easily amused) ours is a 2002 I think, brilliant car (if only it wasn't knee deep in rubbish because its mr messy's car)

Cavort · 17/10/2013 18:05

Agree Purple, I don't know what to do other than waiting until she seems interested in food. There's currently zero interest so that allows me to sweep it under the carpet for a while. Smile

I was planning to get mine a little cute Xmas outfit as it's gift. I liked this one but am a bit useless when it comes to babies confused about what babies wear - would I buy leggings or tights or something to go with this? What about for a boy? Mine will be around 2 weeks to a month old probably, so is that newborn or 0-3 months?!

www.mothercare.com/Mothercare-Santa-Hanging-Bodysuit/LZ8569,default,pd.html#q=Christmas

Purplemonster · 17/10/2013 19:27

I'd go newborn Alex, 0-3 month clothes are quite big - Lucy still doesn't fit in them at 15 weeks (though she is particularly small for her age she's still over 10lb which iI hope your baby won't be at 2 weeks!)

Alexandra6 · 17/10/2013 19:53

Hmmm well I was at birth purple but hoping these things aren't hereditary!

BraveLilBear · 17/10/2013 20:00

Newborn and first size clothes tend to be up to 10lbs, 0-3 are up to 12lbs or 14.5lbs depending on brand. Next and Mothercare tend to go up to 14/14.5, supermarket clothes tend to be on the smaller side.

have spent way too much time looking at labels

Cavort · 17/10/2013 20:50

I intend to go the whole hog in terms of making Elodie look ridiculous festive. I need to start building up my bank of embarrassing photographs to torture her with when she's older. Grin JL have some good ones. I particularly like Elf, Snowman, Reindeer, Hat, Booties and Bib

OP posts:
BelissimaLol · 17/10/2013 20:55

Yeah def newborn if not even tiny baby size!!!! I'm only now using 0-3 at 12 weeks!!!
On other news, the witch Gina nap routine seems to be a bloody miracle!!! Granted I had to feed her to sleep twice and take her for a walk however she has been fast asleep since 7:15!!!!!!!!!!
Let's see what the night brings me huhGrin

Cavort · 17/10/2013 21:05

Lol I think most of the so-called experts advocate a loose routine once baby is a few months old so I'm not sure GF deserves all the credit for a soundly sleeping Lara, but whoever is responsible it's good news. Smile Elodie goes to bed about 7 and wakes twice to feed about 01.00 and between 04.00-05.00 and then gets up about 07.00.

OP posts:
HazleNutt · 17/10/2013 21:06

What size of clothes you need really depends on the size of your baby, I didnt need newborn and 0-3 were too small in a month. The 6-month clothes he is wearing now are definitely not too big, I think I better start buying 9 month soon.Shock

BelissimaLol · 17/10/2013 21:14

Cav my only dilemma now is whether to follow the last bit of her routine which is to dream feed her at around 11. She was fed at 6:30 and took 3 oz of expressed and asked for more so I gave her boob.
What do you ladies think? To feed or not to feed?

Cavort · 17/10/2013 21:43

Lol I have found through experimentation that a dream feed only makes a maximum of 1 hour difference to Elodie's first wake up time so I generally don't bother unless I know she hasn't fed well at bedtime and if I don't it means I can have a glass of wine. I think it works well for Janey though so I think you just have to try it both ways and see what happens.

OP posts:
janey1234 · 17/10/2013 21:54

Indeed cavort, it does generally work for us Miles. Def sleeps longer with it, and he generally wakes, feeds, smiles, goes straight back to sleep.

But as cavort says I think try it and see if it works for you or not. Fingers crossed either way.

Bunnygirlie · 17/10/2013 22:31

hello strangers, took a while to find you, thread 8 already that's madness!

Thought about you lot earlier so thought I'd pop in, hope all is well with the (not so new anymore) mums and babies too x

janey1234 · 17/10/2013 22:42

Oh and cavort, Miles is totally going to be an elf on Christmas Day. That is awesome. Just don't know whether to buy 3-6 or 6-9, he's only just moving up into 3-6. I suspect 6-9 but then am wondering if I might like him to wear it throughout the whole month of December once or twice before the big day...

Hi Bunny. SmileSmile Hops you're feeling ok after last week. We miss you x

MotherOfCleo · 17/10/2013 23:34

Hi bunny hope you're ok! Always nice to hear from you!

I am now officially off for 9 months....eeek. Tomorrow and Friday are holiday then ML starts on the 28th. I just turned off my alarm, it seems very very odd! Confused

I am hoping this one will be a nice little 7lber so I have a fair amount of newborn and up to 1 month.....I do also have a heap of 0-3 too so he best get some wear out of all of them!

MotherOfCleo · 18/10/2013 04:42

doh....must be overtired! Meant to say tomorrow and next week are holiday.....I worry about myself at times Confused

Boomgoestheweasel · 18/10/2013 07:20

OOOH Mother holidaaaay! I'm so jealous and I haven't even started my job yet, let alone left it...

Purple totally sold on the picnic table...Grin

Am no help to anyone about dream feeds or routines, but I fully recommend all babies get stuffed into stupid outfits for Christmas! Humiliation should begin as early as possible, I'm sure Gina agrees Grin
