Here you go ladies

Thought I would treat you to a new thread as you lot are far too busy growing new people to do it Grin

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
cartoontrickster · 13/11/2013 14:46

maybe I think the one in the nursery has it got replaced when we decorated but I don't think our bedroom one has a thermostat.
the health visitor is coming again in a couple of weeks I'm tempted to take her up there and see what she thinks.
too we went visiting the hospital a couple of days ago and it was roasting on the ward! i find it a bit confusing that on the one hand you need a warm house but when it comes to sleeping too warm is bad.
not everyone has masses of space for cots and Moses baskets so avoiding radiators can't always be possible.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 13/11/2013 18:09

Am I right in thinking the optimum room temperature is 18-22 degrees for newborns? CIA I swear hospitals are so much hotter than that!!!!

Sounds like a good idea Trix see if she has any wise words. Though I'm sure you'll get it right Smile

NoMaybeAboutIt · 13/11/2013 18:10

CIA?! That should read cos Grin

SweetieTime · 14/11/2013 10:56

Welcome Too congratulations on the pensive BFP. Sorry to hear about your loss. We are here for hand holding through this pregnancy for you.

Trix we intend to keep twins in our room for a few weeks both in a travel cot as we don't have room for a full size cot. But when DH is going back to work to move the travel cot down stairs for day time naps and both twins in their own room but still in the same room. We need to get a room thermometer to monitor their room, I think about 18 is recommended.

Mat leave is going well, I have been very busy doing nothing I haven't done much on my list of things to do. I had a bit of meltdown in the beauty salon earlier this morning. I had gone for an eyelash tint (am thinking of life with no time to apply mascara) but had a bit of a freak out. I am not sure what came over me so I am now at home with a cuppa and stolen bites and all in the world is ok again.

Nothing much else to report, apart from I am going to visit a friend who has a new puppy. I am super excited about having snuggles with it.

cartoontrickster · 14/11/2013 11:22

I thought the temp should be 16-20 Confused am seriously considering a room thermometer because at least it will stop me worrying.
sweetie glad your feeling better now. what pup did your friend get? how many weeks are you now?
I seem to be getting knackered by the second half of my week. some days are such a struggle.
I've been upset because as far as I know I'm under consultant care which means I can't have treats at the birth center or it seems use the pool. everyone at antenatal last night said they wanted birth centre water births. I felt a bit left out and stupid. I've no idea why as I'm not even sure I would want a water birth anyway plus if I ask my consultant I may be able to use the birth centre. little things feel so much worse at the moment and being tired doesn't help.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 14/11/2013 11:35

Glad you're enjoying leave Sweetie!! Ooh, a new pup!! Give it a squidge from me. I love stollen. Sorry you had a mini meltdown. But you are perfectly entitled to! I cry every time I are a Christmas advert. In such a loser!!

Trix I'm under consultant care and am allowed a birth centre water birth. There's no reason you can't have the same if you ask! And don't feel stupid at all. No two births are the same, different things work for different people. I'm sure you'll have an amazing experience come January.

I'm going to get a gro egg to monitor temperature. But as long as baby feels the right temperature, all should be fine.

SweetieTime · 14/11/2013 11:44

My friend got a Lhaso Apso, we used to have one and my friend looked after ours for us so fell in love with the breed then. I can not wait to see it and have snuggles.
I know what you mean about the second half of the week taking a toll on you. How many weeks left at work do you have? Can you start doing reduced hours such as starting a bit later on a morning?
When do you see consultant or midwife again? Could you ask that they reconsider and let you give birth in birth centre? There is nothing to prevent this happening, Treats is doing really well and so are you so I would say you should have a strong case. But try to get your head around all the different options, that is what I am doing about c-section over natural birth, and don't worry about others in your NCT group. It is your experience and everyone has different preferences. The main thing is that Treat arrives safely and you are well looked after.
I think being tired is putting things in your head, talk it through with DH and your Mum. I am sure they will help put things in perspective for you. We are always here to listen to you and offer advice too. Get yourself a cuppa and some chocolate and try to have a rest later today xx

cartoontrickster · 14/11/2013 11:46

maybe I got teary when I heard the Xmas coke a cola ad on the radio Blush
I think I need to actually ask my consultant, I think it was my midwife and then the lady who showed us round the hosp who said it might not be an option for me. like I say I'm not even sure I would want a water birth anyway, but I'd like it to be because I've choosen not to have that rather than not being allowed if that makes sense.
I'd been looking at the gro egg one too!

musicalmrs · 14/11/2013 11:49

You might still be allowed to use the pool Trix! Don't lose hope :)

My only one tip would be - even if everyone says it would be wonderful for you to have a water birth, and you put it on your notes, do be prepared if it can't happen! Despite there being three pools at the centre I used, they were all unavailable when I went in. Cue me getting in a bit of a mental strop, and labour - which was up until then progressing very fast -stalling for a while. I don't know why but I'd never considered the possibility of not being able to use it.. and got very annoyed when I couldn't!

Glad you're enjoying maternity leave Sweetie. Enjoy the puppy snuggles! Grin

cartoontrickster · 14/11/2013 11:54

xpost sweetie
thank you. I feel a bit daft really and your right as far as I can see there's no reason for them to stop me having a water birth if that's what I want. I paniced because the whole class seems to know they want a water birth where I have no idea and want to know all the options but I have a feeling the class will be very focused on water birth now. I will see if I can speak to the class leader too.
this week I have Been starting later, so far it hasn't made much difference but we've had a couple of busy evenings. hopefully next week will be better otherwise I could be tempted to discuss a shorter week. I was planning on my last day being the 20th Dec.

cartoontrickster · 14/11/2013 11:57

yes musical we did get told that a couple of times, I think the centre here only has two. the ntc lady suggested considering home birth if you definitely wanted a pool!
tbh I have no clue what I would like and so far am not very well informed about my options but I'm sure that will change.

Solars · 14/11/2013 12:06

Congrats and welcome Too

I got the Phillips Avent room and bath thermometer, which has already been delivered by the way! On there it says room temp should be about 19 degrees. I did look at the gro egg but preferred this one instead.

Sweetie I wouldn't worry about your to do list I think all you should be doing is relaxing and resting at the moment.

Trix I second what Sweetie says this is your pregnancy and your birth don't worry too much about what everyone else is doing.

Maybe I'm crying over such little things these days! especially things that are making me sentimental! I heard an old song on the radio whilst driving the other day, cue floods of tears!

We've been a little preoccupied here as FIL had a fall a few days ago and is in hospital so we had a quick dash to kent. He is ok but may be there quite a while. Part from that all is well here.

RubberBullets · 14/11/2013 12:14

I didn't want a water birth, didn't fancy sitting in manky water. I did sit in the bath for my mc though, the warmth did help with the pain but we wasted so much water constantly emptying it and refilling.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 14/11/2013 12:17

Oh no Solars, your poor FIL. Hope he is on the mend now. The tears literally come out of nowhere, and then disappear just as fast!! MrM thinks it's hilarious!!

That makes sense Trix, and it's only right, you should be making your decisions based on what you feel is right.

Oh Sweetie, I love those!! Too cute.

Musical, there is only one pool here. If only shot gunning worked in this situation Wink. I am so massively tempted by a home birth. Just don't think I'm brave enough!

SweetieTime · 14/11/2013 12:57

Solars sorry to hear about fil. Hope he is the mend.

Maybe I am super emotional too. Tears can be shed at most things. Recently at those little girls singing the song on One Show. I have got worse as pregnancy has progressed so brace yourself.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 14/11/2013 13:25

Oh don't say that Sweetie!!! That does not bode well!!

RubberBullets · 14/11/2013 13:34

I was 9 months pregnant when Stephen Hendry announced his retirement. I remember just sitting on the sofa crying my eyes out for ages. Blush

cartoontrickster · 14/11/2013 13:41

I don't know what's up with me today I'm so teary just want my bed really.
rubber my mum actually said to me that surely I wouldnt want to sit in water with all kinds of yuk around me and actually she's probably right!
sweetie hope you enjoy pup cuddles when you see your friend, such cute little balls of fluff! have you packed your hospital bag? I am just making a list of what I will need to pack and listing what items we still have left to buy.
I plan to try breast feeding but I will not force myself so I have bottles and will buy some formular just on case. does anyone know if I would need to take milk and bottles to the hospital?

cartoontrickster · 14/11/2013 13:42

oh solars hope your fil is ok. what a worry for you all.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 14/11/2013 13:54

I think it depends on your hospitals policy Trix. Some hospitals won't provide anything, but I know some do. Hope you manage to get an early night.

Rubber, Stephen Henry!! Brilliant Wink

SweetieTime · 14/11/2013 16:38

Trix OMG the puppy was so super cute I hope I get this excited about my new borns it was so soft and adorable. It didn't even have all its teeth yet, it kept doing these gummy yawns. It also kept licking my feet. I could have smuggled it home under my jumper. You would have loved it.
I packed my bag last weekend. Our hospital provides formula but not much else, cotton wool I think. We have to take nappies, maternity sanitary pads & nipple pads. We have been told to bring 3 vests & 3 babygros per baby, 2 x jersey hats per baby and mitts. For me just toiletries make up birthing nighty & fresh nighty/pyjamas, big pants, thick socks. I have also included wipes, hand sanitiser, small bottle of dilute juice & snacks, paracetamol, vaseline, hair brush & bobbles. Think that is about it. I was told to keep it to a minimum, so that is minimum in my eyes.
Anyone think I have missed anything?

cartoontrickster · 14/11/2013 16:48

sweetie sounds adorable! I'm jealous!
I googled hosp bag. people seem to say take a book or similar, a towel, pillows (i defo will take at least one pillow because I always sleep with 2) camera. I think your covered! what are you wearing home? I will probably just wear joggers. and of course better not forget our notes or to fetch the car seat. they seem to like you to be a quick in and out its possible I won't stay a night depending time of birth etc of course.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 14/11/2013 16:53

Hang on Trux, joggers?! Are you meaning to say you won't have your own personal stylist/make up artist on hand Wink

cartoontrickster · 14/11/2013 17:00

well I did consider it maybe because of the paps obvs Wink

NoMaybeAboutIt · 14/11/2013 17:18

Grin Trix!!
